Universal Features for iPhones, please.

I'm rather disappointed at how many features are iPhone 4 specific on the latest update. Do we older generation iPhone users not matter to you because we haven't given you even more money for your annual hardware update? Do we not deserve FREE device tracking if our phones are lost, or worse, stolen? Having the feature on every iPhone that you can supply it to would be extremely helpful in helping law enforcement officials track down criminals. Do we NEED to give you even more money (an astounding $99 a year) for that peace of mind? Or even the smallest features such as new text tones that we already give you money for in the iTunes store that are limited to one use. If we don't get equal features, we shouldn't have to pay an equal price for the tones that we get limited use for. Apple, this is completely disappointing.
If there are other features we were short-changed on with the 4.2 update, feel free to add them below. I hope Apple hears us on this.

Apple will not hear you here. We are all iphone users.
Why would you think that the older models of anything ( car/tv/dvd player/etc) would get all of the software upgrades that the new ones would. This is nothing unusual at all.\
You are not entitled to eternal upgrades so that your older device is the same as all new devices.
Certainly you know that.

  • Please share your experience with the universal dock for iphone 3g

    Hi There,
    1. Can people share their experience of the universal dock with the iphone 3g adapter. My concern is that does the tight fit scratch the black lower back of the iphone plastic everytime we remove it or put it in? OR is there enough gap for the iphone to slip in and out without scratching.
    2. Anyone having issues with the universal dock or does it work fine for most?
    thanks in advance,
    cheers,
    Sunil

    Thanks for your advice.
I recently purchased a universal dock for my iphone 3g. It works great. I just had one question. When my iphone is sitting on it for lets say 20 - 30 minutes. Then if i press the buttons on the remote. nothing happens! If I then press the home button while it is on the cradle then, the remote, it plays music. There after lets say if I stop stop the music through the remote and again press the remote button after a few minutes it starts playing. So what happens after a long time. Why do i have to press the home button on the iphone for the remote to work. Is that how it is supposed to work???
    Thanks

  • Learn iOS 5 features for iPhone 4?

I'm looking for a guide that covers all new features applicable to iPhone 4. Does something like that exist?
If not, is there a list of all new iOS 5 features that work on an iPhone 4?
If not, is there a list of all new iOS 5 features?
I'm finding that going through the iOS 5 User Guide is not a very effective way to learn iOS 5 for a for someone who has been using iOS 4.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

And here I thought my question and the related product software support was just why "we" invented computers. Allowing the Apple iOS support team to push a button and have an iOS 5 user guide for iPhone 4 owners who previously used iOS 4.
But..... Tim and Co. didn't ask me.
So while I wait near my Inbox for that email from Tim that directs me to such a user guide, I'll continue to "catch" the iOS 5 info as I was doing.
    Thanks.

  • Could Apple please introduce a blocking feature for iPhones?

I'm sure there are many frustrated people out there with top of the market iPhones who cannot block numbers from people who are harassing them without the need to jailbreak their iPhone. I am one of them. How many people will it take for Apple to act on this and create a solution. Carriers such as O2 can only change the number but not block the person themselves. Do you think there should be a block feature inbuilt into the iPhone like there is with many of the other phones on the market? AND WHEN WILL APPLE LISTEN TO ITS CONSUMERS?

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
I can assure you that Apple listens, but sometimes the answer is "no". If your carrier will not block a number, the only way to really set up a block, then there's nothing you can do at this time.

  • New features for IPhone 3.0?

When the iphone 3.0 or 4.0 comes out "next" year, i hope it is solar powered and water proof. Why cant the iphone screen itself act as a solar cell that recharges the battery? If the iphone could do that, then it will truly change the world.

    LOL
I'd already be happy if the next gen iPhone would finally get:
    - much better battery with at least a full day of normal use, better make that two. I don't want to have to charge the thing twice a day, in fact, I am often unable to charge before I get home in the evening.
    - full featured, uncrippled bluetooth 2.0 or better 2.1 (including data connections and stereo headset support) it's really annoying not being able to quickly send a contact to a coworker via BT and not be able to use iPhone with my in-car GPS which pulls traffic information from TomTom via BT Internet access
    - a less basic and limited, more complete Text messaging app with templates character count and all the other bells and whistles current phones from established manufacturers have.
    - individual forwarding options for "busy", "no coverage", "not answered" like any other contemporary mobile handset. right now forwarding to voice mail is all or nothing.
    - Generally a more complete core movile handset feature set that is on par with current handsets from the likes of Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Samsung, LG and the like. Better yet Apple should show those guys that they can do one better instead of lagging years behind in core handset functions.
    - Multimedia messaging (MMS) support
    - Task / To-do sync support
    - Video capture support
    - Better camera with flash
    - Memory card support (Micro SD or similar)
    - more internal storage (32 / 64 / 128 GB?)

*I was allways a Nokia fan. I had lot of type of Nokia.*
*Even very simple like the 6300. And I was use the*
*Nokia PC Suite software, to organizing My things..*
*Is that in available a universal iPhone software,*
*what is handel so many things?*
    *- Group SMS sending.*
    *- SMS sending, reciving, organizing.*
*- Contact manager, add personalized ringtones, and photos for contacts.*
    *- Calendar*
    *etc etc etc*

As a PC user you can use a number of programs to do these things. The only thing you can't do is send sms from the computer, you can do all that from the iphone.
-For calender and contacts the iPhone syncs with Microsoft Outlook (2003 or 2007)
-Photos are synced through itunes, you import them from the iphone using the windows photo importer (which opens automatically when it detects new photos on the iphone).
-There are a number of ways to get custom ringtones, one is itunes. You can google search for a number of ways to make more without itunes using freeware.

  • HT201365 New update  & new features for Iphone  in iOS7

I dont like the new update and new features at all.  How can i go back to the old feature?

There is no supported way of downgrading to previous iOS versions. However you may Gogole alternative ways of doing it but know that you are on your own and if something goes wrong in the downgrade process your warranty may be voided and Apple will not offer any support for it.
We cannot discuss how to downgrade here due to the Terms of service of these forums, but google should offer lots of hits for it currently.

  • Explain plans for Iphone Please!

hello, my verizon contract is up in 2 months and i will probably switch to att for the iphone. i have 4 people in my family and am looking at getting 2 or 3 iphones. what plan should i get? and is the data plan 30$ per iphone or can you get a plan that is a flat fee for all iphones? Thanks in advance!

The calling and text plans available with AT&T Family Plans are the same regardless the phone.
AT&T's least expensive Family calling plan is $59.99/mo - this is for the first two lines.
This provides 550 anytime minutes shared with all lines - up to 5 lines. Mobile to mobile minutes anytime are unlimited, unlimited nights and weekends minutes, and rollover minutes are included.
    Each additional line costs $9.99/mo
The unlimited data plan for the iPhone is per iPhone.
If you plan on getting two iPhones with a total of 4 lines - using the least expensive Family Plan will be as follows.
$59.99/mo - two lines (using the 2 iPhones for these two lines).
$30/mo - unlimited data plan for one iPhone
$30/mo - unlimited data plan for one iPhone
    $9.99/mo - additional line
    $9.99/mo - additional line
As a new AT&T subscriber, you can get a fully subsidized phone for the additional two lines.
$20/mo - unlimited SMS/MMS shared between all lines.
Choosing the least expensive Family Plan will cost you $160/mo which includes the $30/mo unlimited data plan for each iPhone (2), and unlimited SMS/MMS plus applicable taxes and fees.

  • The best free mac video converter for iphone please?

So far i used to add my avi files to my itunes library on my mac using movie2itunes. then i would right click on the movies and choose 'create iphone version'. i was expecting the video size to go down as the resolution and screen size of the iphone is much smaller compared to the resolution of the original avi file and the screen size of my macbook. so for all reasons it had to encode lesser data into the new file. instead, it keeps the same resolution! and while the original size is a mere 300mbs for 60 minutes of videos the new encoded file is a 550 mbs!
so i think using itunes for video conversion is not a very smart way of utilizing space on the iphone. can u recommend me some good, preferably free, video conversion software for mac which is smart enough to convert movies (especially avi) to iphone format and also NOT increase the size, if not decrease it!
google gives a lot of results. so thought making a post would help me narrow it down. thankyou.
i have perian installed and also quick time pro.
    Neerav

Mpeg Streamclip is nice because of options and its free, but I would use iSquint. Its FREE and it converts in very nice quality, with basic options. Trust me it will cover your converting needs. But if you wanna download vids from Youtube and stuff, I would use mpeg streamclip too. Both together are a nice converint combo. I hope I helped:)?

  • Why can't I use the landscape feature for iPhone 5? It only works in limited apps. I feel as though I wasted my money since I prefer to use my phone in landscape mode.

Why can't I use the landscape feature in all of the apps? It seems like a waste of money since I prefer to use the landscape feature.

It is up to the app developer to decide if the app should work in landscape mode or not. This is also true on Android phones, by the way.

  • Hotmail Help for iphone Please!

I read the discussions regarding Hotmail and decided to pay the $20 a year in order to be able to access Hotmail on my new iphone G3. I had been working fine until just last week. The only thing I can think of that could have changed was that I updated my phone with the new 2.1 software. Could that have changed something? I would really like my hotmail to work again and don't quite know how to resolve it. The settings have not changed, and I can see my past mail, write new outgoing mail but it won't update with new incoming e-mails. Any advice?

You could try "restoring" your phone and then reinstalling the update. Make sure that everything is backed up (ie contacts, pictures, etc.) by synching your phone with your computer, then under the same synch option in iTunes click restore. Once it has restored your phone to the original settings synch your phone again and everything will be reinstalled on the phone.
That might help, but no garuntees.

  • Is there a 4.0 firmware for iphone 2g?

    hi,
I see some posts on a few websites claiming that a custom 4.0 os has been made for iphone 2g which contains most of the features for it.. IS this true? Anyone tried this? Please suggest
    Thanks
    Prabhat

The original iphone does not support ios 4:
"iOS 4 is a free software update offering new features for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4 (which ships with iOS 4)."

  • Using box2d flash as3 engine for iphone apps

    Hi
have any body tried box2d flash as3 libraries working with flsh cs5 iphone apps.? when i compile app it give many errors, using flash player 9 give one error b2fixture undefined type error. any body developing physics base games as3 for iphone please share any good as3 physics base game engine.
    Thanks

If you are targeting all iDevices I strongly suggest to forget about the Box2D. There is absolutely no way you can get (almost) any kind of physics simulation running smoothly with 1st and 2nd generation iDevices with current version of Packager for iPhone.
And it really is graphics that is the problem more than anything else. Forget about caching Sprites or MovieClips. Actually don't use MovieClips and Sprites at all, it's just too slow. Instead start extending Bitmap class with your own animation system (swapping BitmapData) and mouse handling (hitTestPoint), there's plenty of examples.
And then if you write really really optimized code you can get one fluently moving and animated sprite object running on your iPhone or iPhone 3G (with out doing anything else than just moving and animating that one object). More than one (animated and/or moving) object causes serious performance problems. You don't notice this as linear slowing in FPS (which would still be kind of ok), but it's more like skipping frames every now and then. This looks and feels really disturbing and makes designing of games pretty hard...Using GPU mode doesn't make any difference.
But to answer the question, I'm pretty convinced that you can get (simple) Box2D simulation running smoothly on iPhone if you:
    1. Target only 3rd generation iDevices and above
    2. Use only Bitmaps as graphics
    3. Do rotations with pre-rendered frames (or don't use rotation at all)
    4. Optimize Box2D and your code thoroughly
Just for **** and giggles I think I try to get some kind of physics simulation running on 3G too...
By the way, comparing performance of 1st generation iPhone to HTC Desire (I happen to own both too) is like comparing C-64 to my shiny new Phenom II X6 rig. If you just look at the specs:
    HTC Desire:
    1 GH ARM v7
    AMD Z430 GPU
    576 Mb DRAM
    iPhone 3G:
ARM 1176JZ(F)-S (underclocked to 412 MHz)
    PowerVR MBX Lite 3D
    128 Mb DRAM
