"Universal Laptop DC car charger power adapter" for Lenovo g530

Hey there,  I'm a complete tech numskull, so pardon me if this is incredibly naive.  I recently made an impulse buy of an off-brand "Universal Laptop DC car charger power adapter" with the hopes of using it in a car with my Lenovo G530.  I haven't gotten it yet but after purchasing it, I noticed the power adapter that came with my Lenovo  is "AC."  Is it possible to us the DC adapter with my laptop, where my cord says "AC"?  I obviously don't want to fry my laptop and was wondering what I should look out for.  The adapter was pretty cheap, which is another red flag but it also means I won't be out much if I made a mistake in buying it (ebay purchase).
Thanks in advance for your input.

It seems the spare is the new specs. Check these 2 spares. They are the same 4.74amp. http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-3000-G530-444638U-Adapter/dp/B002Z209G6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronic... http://www.amazon.com/COMPUTER-Power-Adapter-Cord-LENOVO/dp/B002MY2MLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electron...

    Hi, Atcandela.
I've a Macally external fire/usb enclosure that powers up and mounts directly on to my PB Aluminum 1.67 laptop but the USB portion doesn't draw power.
Do you mean it mounts and works OK when connected via FireWire, but not when connected via USB? If so, that's unsurprising. I would be surprised to hear that it doesn't mount when you use the FireWire connnection, because most drives are able to get enough power from that port.
Does MacAlly not offer a cable for your drive that allows it to draw power from both your USB ports? Some manufacturers of external drives or enclosures do offer such a cable, and it's well worth buying because it's much smaller and more portable than an AC adapter. Have a look at this one from Western Digital — it might fill the bill for you.

  • Spilled Drink - Laptop won't recognise power adapter + screen backlight

    Hi.
The other day, I had my 17" MacBookPro in a satchel bag, but made the foolish choice of leaving my Lucozade (Orange flavour if that helps!) in the bag.
Obviously, the Lucozade burst, submerging around two inches of the laptop, there part where the screen connects to the laptop, and submerging the power adapter port.
Now for around twenty four hours, the power adapter charged the laptop, but unfortunatly, the backlight on the screen suddenly didn't work, as in you could very faintly see it, but when you try to turn the display up, nothing happened.
Twenty four hours after the spill, the power adapter failed. I'm pretty certain it isn't the power adapter, which means the problems seems to lie with the power adapter port.
Now I opened up the laptop two days ago, (three days after the accident), and cleaned what ever Lucozade there was, and just in general cleaned up the insides of the MacBookPro (which is now around two-and-a-half years old.) Unfortunatly it didn't work.
So currently I have a MacBookPro with no battery power, and no screen backlight. So what i'm asking is for any advice at all!
Is it worth taking it to an independant laptop repair business? Would they be able to do much more than me?
Should I take it to a Mac shop? Would they know what to do?
Is there anything I can do myself?
Anyone else had a similar experience?!
    Thanks a lot.
    Christian.

I think the problem may be with the inverter board or cable. Do you have access to an external display? Maybe one you could borrow? If so, hook it up and see if you have good video on it. If you do, that would indicate that the video chip on the logic board is OK. And if you can get good video on the external, it would be a good opportunity to run the Apple Hardware Test.
One thing is that you really need to remove all traces of the Lucozade or you could have further issues on down the line. You could practice on the I/O board you removed. Flush it thoroughly with distilled or deionized water and dry it thoroughly (this could take weeks, maybe less if you have a warm dry place for drying). You could try cleaning any affected part this way, and it's possible--though not certain--that it could work again.
You probably have found ifixit and PowerBook Medic by now. Let me give you another link:
    http://node123.cit.geneseo.edu/~stratton/ServiceManuals/
This is an index--you will have to find your specific manual and download it. But I think you'll find it useful.
    Good luck!

  • Which power adapter for Europe

I will be visiting Russia soon and I would need a power adapter for both my macbook pro and my iphone, any idea of what is needed? Thanks!

"but what about my digital camera batteries? This is no use to charge my batteries... I am also confuse with the adapter/converter required, what is the difference? "
Most digital cameras come with a universal power adapter (100-240V, 50-60Hz) and can be used anywhere. To be sure, check the power adapter that came with your camera. The AV power input will be marked on the adapter. Depending upon where you purchased the camera, the AC prong configuration will change. If it was purchased in the US, you can use the same AC prong adapter that works with the MBP and iPhone.
If you have a charger specifically for your camera batteries, it probably does not have a universal power adapter - you can check the markings to be sure. Accordingly, the easiest thing to do is to bring a supply of batteries with you. If you live in the US, "good" batteries are cheaper there than anywhere else. If you wait until you get to Russia, you'll find that good batteries are very expensive, and the cheap batteries are very bad.

  • Buying the right replacement power adapter for HP Envy

The original power adapter for my brother's HP Envy Touchsmart laptop has appears to have partially melted. I'm trying to find the correct adapter to use as a replacement, but I have questions because it looks like he will have to order one of the Smart adapters, which is not what he used originally. • Use Ti Power Adapter for 17" in an Emergency?

Can I use an old Ti Power Adapter for a 17" G4 Powerbook to run from A.C. outlet? I don't care if it charges the battery. Would it damage the 17"? Should I take the battery out and just run it via A.C. using the Ti?

If the plug fits it should be fine but just check the wattage, my wife and I use each others adapters, she has a G4 iBook and we run a Powerbook and a G3 iBook from the same adapter.
Hopefully this is helpful or solved your problem. Consider rewarding some points!

  • 45W or 65W power adapter for T440s

Which is the correct power adapter for the T440s....45W or 65W adapter that Lenovo is selling under the accessories section? The websites pulls up both adapters for the T440s. The 45W adapter output is 20 volts, 2.25 amps and the 65W adapter is 20 volts and 3.25 amps. Is one adapter more recommended over the other? Are their pros or cons to either? Does one charge faster but reduces the battery life?

    @sjahanmi,
    Parts list for T440s -> http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t440s_fru_list_20130724.pdf
I will recommend calling the call center to get the recommended AC for the laptop.
Which AC did your laptop came with btw?
For mine I had the 65W for my T420 however one of my colleagues had the 90W one, its also usable however it seems like their laptops charge faster than compared to mine. I am not sure if its a placebo effect or it does charge faster.
I think the best way for you is to contact the call center and provide them with the machine type and they will recommend you accordingly.

  • HT1665 Can iPhone car charger be used for latest iPad?

Can iPhone car charger be used for new iPad?

Probably not. The iPhone charger is 5W whereas the iPad requires a 10W charger. The iPhone car charger will probable charge the iPad, but very slowly.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Could I have got a new power adapter for free?

My power adapter for my mac stopped working recently and as far as I know I didn't cause any damage to it myself.
I read the following on the apple website:
    Additional Information
Whether your product is in or out of warranty, you can take your adapter to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store for evaluation and replacement if necessary. Pending the results of evaluation, you may or may not be eligible for a replacement adapter free of charge. Signs of accidental damage would negate any coverage. Be sure to bring in the computer used with the adapter; it is required to process potential adapter replacements.
Which seems to suggest that even out of warrenty, if the charger has broken of it's own accord you can still get a free replacement?
I took my adapter and mac to the shop, they said there were no signs of accidental damage but said I still have to pay for it. I referred to this statement from the website but they were very dismissive and kept saying it was out of warrenty. Perhaps i'm reading the statement wrongly.
Just wondered if anyone could clarify :-)

As you indicated, it depends on the results of the evaluation.
Apple takes responsibility when design faults cause certain failures, especially when it represents a safety concern. There have been a small number of cases where failure met certain characteristics that Apple deemed that it should not have happened, regardless of age or use.
I am reluctant to indicated the specificity of some of these issues, because for many reasons Apple would not want us speculating on the subject. Suffice it to say your product failure may not have met any particular characteristics associated with failures deemed to have extended coverage.
If your product failed for an unknown reason, or apparently a failure stemming from age or normal life expectancy use, and it was after the normal expiry of warranty, then no further consideration was given. You need to buy and pay for a new one, unless you yourself, can provide extenuating circumstances to consider.

  • Is light faulty on new 60w power adapter for my Macbook?

Had to order a new 60w power adapter for my Macbook a couple of weeks ago -- bought it from the Apple Store (the new design adapter). When it's plugged in it turns green, then immediately turns red to recharge -- all normal. Once fully recharged the adapter light turns/stays green. But after awhile the adapter light goes out altogether. The icon shows it's charging, but the red (and green) light is off. If I remove the adapter and plug it back in the lights will come on again.
    Is this normal?
    Thanks.

I think I'm experiencing the same problem. My computer charges but the light goes back and forth from being on or off, orange or green. I'm a little disappointed that the light could be burned out, but I guess a little light like that can't last forever. Oh well.
Is it worth pursuing a replacement from Apple since I still have AppleCare? Just wondered.
Anyway, this is really helpful information. Thanks for sharing.
