Universal Wireless Keyboard Tungsten T5

Some years back I bought the PalmOne Universal Wireless Keyboard 3169WW for my Tungsten T5. When I had installed the driver I found that, even though the keyboard worked, I had lost half my screen. I could not rectify this, and had to do a hard reset (the works) to get my whole screen back. I then threw the keyboard into a drawer and forgot about it. Getting it out again recently I was tempted (silly me!) to try again. But caution prevailed and I thought I'd research other users first. This was frustrating (almost as frustrating as trying to register for this forum). Finally I thought to myself that they must have remedied this problem by now, only to see that the date on the download was still many years ago, suggesting that it was still the old, troublesome driver. Could someone tell me if I am heading for a half-screen experience still, if I download the driver? Begging.

Dear All,
Many thanks for the helpful replies. I held my breath and downloaded the recommended software from the Palm site. It worked! So far. The dreaded half-screen has not reappeared, so I guess I'm in the clear. My trusty T5 is working quite OK otherwise.
To the expert with the green print. Couldn't remember over those years which application I was in. All of them were affected I think. What's a DIA?
Thanks anyway.

  • Unable to Install Universal Wireless Keyboard with the CD that came with the Palm Tungsten E2 on my Windows Vista OS. Can some help? Would Appreciate it very much.

I recently bought a Palm Tungsten E2. I have been unable to install the Universal Wireless Keyboard software that came with the E2. Went online and downloaded the version 1.13 UWK and that would not install either. What did I do wrong?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

For Vista that version will not let you install programs. Good news though is we have a version you can. Go here, http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk62.html and install this on top of the version you already have. There is going to be a few changes on the desktop, there is no quick install, but the install tool.
Once you have that done just double click on keyboard and it will ask you your hotsync name and sync and your done.
Oh as a side note the check if this is your solution is only if the answer solves your original question.

  • Universal Wireless Keyboard 3169WWZ has letters not working

Hi all, can anyone help me. I have had the same problem with two of these keyboards. On the right hand side of the keyboard, there is a whole section that is 'dead'. The o,p, brackets, k,l,commas, periods, etc. do not register at all. I am extremely frustrated because this is the second keyboard with this problem. The first one lasted a few months and it is the same with this one. Any suggestions?

<sigh>  I understand your frustration with the outsourced support group.  I've had terrible experiences with them too.
I'm holding in my hands the "Limited Warranty" pamphlet for the Universal Wireless Keyboard (Palm pamphlet#: 406-10460-00).  It states:
"HARDWARE: Palm, Inc. (Palm) warrants to the original end user (Customer) that new Palm branded products will be free from defects in workmanship and materials, under normal use, for one (1) year from the original purchase date.  Palm warrants refurbished Palm products, marked and sold as such, for ninety (90) days from the original purchase date."
I'd call back, state the obvious mistake by the CSA (and who gets PAID to know this information!) and that you'd like to speak to a supervisor, or at least someone who can read English from the pamphlet mentioned.
The pamphlet goes on to say (you should have one or two of these!) that Palm has the choice to either refund your purchase cost, or send you a reconditioned unit as a replacement if the device cannot be repaired. Dated proof of purchase will also be required.

Quick Install does not work with Vista and the version of Palm Desktop you've installed.
Palm Desktop 6.2.2 is designed for Vista, and uses a different method of installing programs.  http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk62.html
A .zip file is a standard file format.  I don't use Vista, so I can't explain how to unzip a file with it...

  • Universal Wireless Keyboard driver - can't download?

A friend of mine recently bought an iPhone and gave his old Tx and Universal Wireless Keyboard to my family. I already have a Tx of my own, so I gave the extra Tx to my brother and I decided to keep the keyboard. My friend sent the cd-rom with the keyboard, but when i click to download, a box appears (either "please install PalmDesktop driver" or  "please install Microsoft Active Sync Program").
After reading some other posts on here, I tried to download a driver from this link: http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,kb=PalmSupportKB,t=ooccase,case=obj(9372)
I've tried to download it three seperate times, but once I unzip the files and double click the icon it tells me my access is denied.
I wasn't able to use the software that came with my Tx, I had to download the software from the Palm website. I don't know if this may have something to do with my problems...?
I'm at a loss! Any help would be so appreciated.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

If it's asking for Active Sync, you're trying to install the wrong driver!  There are two on the disk: one for Palm OS devices, and one for Windows Mobile devices.  BTW, if the driver on the disk is 1.08, don't install it!  The newest one for the TX is version 1.13.   If that's on the disk, go for it!
The drivers are supposed to be reinstated soon on the website, and we've been hounding Palm to get them back quickly.

  • Universal Wireless Keyboard by Palm: Keys do not work properly

4 keys on the right side of the keyboard (0, P, L, ".") do not work, and I find it very annoying, because it's been a common problem among all the Palm keyboard I have used.
I have owned 3 Palm keyboards so far. The first one was Palm Wireless Keyboard. It worked great at first, but after about 8 months of use, the keys on the right stopped working. It was not a software problem, I was sure, because I'd performed all the resets (soft, hard, you name it) but it did not resolve the problem. Since the keyboard was still under warranty, Palm replaced it with a new Palm Universal Wireless Keyboard. It worked great at first, but after several months of use, the keys on the right stopped working as well. Palm did not replace this keyboard but I got a new Palm TX around the time, and the Palm sent me Universal Wireless Keyboard free with it, so I just started using the new one, which, worked great at first, but then gave away after several months of use. And I'm TIRED of it.
The keys will work sometimes, but mostly don't, at least not promptly. If I hold down the troubled keys and wait long enough, sometimes they will start working. The keyboard makes a soft ticking noise when I press down on the normal keys, but the troubled ones don't, when they are not working, and I'm guessing this has to do with the wiring.
I was wondering how I can fix this problem. It is VERY annoying when the keys suddenly stops working when I'm taking notes in the class or just won't start working at all.

If the following iFixit repair guide doesn't help, then it is time for a replacement.

  • Universal Wireless Keyboard

I have been using a PALM TX and synchronizing it with my outlook and computer fine. Now I have a Universal Wireless Keyboard. When I went to load the drivers it gave me the message: Please install Palm DeskTop Program. What is this referring to. Should I reinstall the Desktop Software that came with the Palm TX or is it referring to something else. There is very little documentation other than "follow the instructions" so I'm not sure what it's referring to. Thanks.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Hello fbcampbell, Welcome to the Palm Support Community.
    A few points:
    1. If you're using XP, why are you running Palm Desktop 6.2.2?  This version was designed for Vista.  It lacks many features of 4.2 (the version that comes on the disk included with the TX).
    2. The driver disk I received with the same keyboard did not have the latest version of the driver (1.13), but came with 1.08.  I'm surprised they have newer disks out now!  Be absolutely sure you're trying to install 1.13.  This original disk was produced many years ago, and was designed to run with Palm Desktop's installation routine.   Version 6.2.2 did not exist when these disks were distributed.  The driver disk just supplies the driver to Quick Install, and the next HotSync will install it!  That's why you need Palm Desktop on your computer.  After the driver is installed, you don't need the disk for normal operation of the keyboard.
    3. I'd remove 6.2.2 and go back to 4.2.  (You should have it on your installation disk, or you can find it in my "Manual" link below in my sig).
Palm Inc. assumes all of its users of their PDA's are regularly doing HotSync backups with Palm Desktop, and installing software via Quick Install (or on 6.2.2 using the "Install Tool").  I don't see this as "poorly engineered", but a simple way to install the driver.
If you don't use Palm Desktop to backup your valuable data, then I can see this may be a point of frustration to you - having to install two pieces of software to get a driver onto the device.  You're also at risk of losing all this data!

The Pre2 does not have an IR port, thus you cannot use the 3169ww.

  • The Status function won't stay on for my Universal Wireless Keyboard 3169WWZ

I have worked on this for many hours with no success.  I think the problem is the Keyboard Status.  I have downloaded the update for this keyboard and it seems to be functioning except...They keyboard status will not stay in the On position.  I have to re-install the updated driver to the turn it on.  It will stay on for awhile but then turns on.  At other times when it is in the On position the keyboard still does not work but keyboard will at other times .  If I turn the Status to Off, I can not turn it back on again until I reset my Zire 31.  In general it behaves very irratically.  Any suggestions?  All of this is true whether the IR is selected, or not, in the Connections application.  I have soft reset the Zire on more than one occassion.  The Zire and keyboard are several years old and I haven't used them in two years.  The batteries in the keyboard are new.  The Zire is full charged and is fully functioning to include HotSync.  Thank you for our help.
    Post relates to: Zire 31

Do you remember this issue before you let the device sit for two years? It could be that the keyboard is not working correctly due to the not being used for a long time. Before we get to replacement options, make sure that both IR ports are clean. I would use a damp not wet cloth on both ports to see if that helps clear up the issue.
If it does not you can try a hard reset on the Zire but you may need to replace the keyboard and/or the device

  • Wireless Keyboard not working with Tungsten T5

I recently purchased a Universal Wireless Keyboard that I'd hoped to use with my Tunsten T5 while on a trip.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get it working before I left.  Now I'm back and want to try again, but need some help.
I'm running Vista on my PC, so the software that came on the install CD with the keyboard wouldn't work.  I checked online and downloaded what I thought was the proper file and it seemed to install fine when I synced, but when I turn the keyboard on and place the T5 in it's cradle, nothing happens.  And, yes, I've careful to position the wand over the top of the device where the infrared port is.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Post relates to: Tungsten T5

I don't see a way to turn on the application on the T5.  When I run the Keyboard application, I just get a screen where I can set the Key Repeat Rate, the Delay Until Repeat interval, a place to test Repeat Settings, and check boxes to enable key clicks and the keyboard.  If I enable the keyboard (is that "turning it on") and go into Documents to Go, then the keyboard doesn't work and when I go back into the Keyboard application, the enabling checkbox is no longer checked.
I also don't see a way to enable Infrared.  If I look under Connections, there are choices to enable IR to a PC/Handheld and several other devices, like a Universal Drive.  But there's no choice for a Wireless Keyboard.  If I look under Power, Beam Receive is ON.

  • Help with the Palm WIreless Keyboard

Hello all,  I have a Palm Tungsten E2 device with the universal wireless keyboard.  I am familiar with most of the functions of the keyboard however there is one thing I have found elusive to this point.  I'll do my best to describe the issue in detail so here goes.
My problem occurs when I open the calendar using the wireless keyboard shortcut (Fn + 4). I press the sequence and my palm pilot opens the calendar to the default "agenda" view, which is fine, but from there I want to navigate to the "daily", "weekly" or "monthly" view quickley (without using the stylus). I know to reach "daily" I press (start + enter) in the "agenda" view which highlights the first scheduled task for that particular day then pressing (start + enter) again opens the "daily" view.  From there I can enter appointments as I see fit. But, what I want to do is navigate directly from "agenda" to "monthly" or "weekly".  Is there a way to do this with a shortcut key combination? Also,  I don't want to change the pilots default calendar setting from agenda to monthly.
Hopefully this makes sense,  please let me know if there is a way to do this, also, if more information is required please post and I will respond.
    Thanks,
    CKF

  • Wireless keyboard for Palm TX and Adobe reader update?

I am considering purchasing a wireless keyboard for a Palm TX. Will the 3169WW work? If purchased new, what driver will it come with ( what driver do I need?). How universal is this keyboard? I have Adobe Reader 3.05 on the TX. Should I be looking for a newer version. Thank You!
    Post relates to: Palm TX

I just deployed a "new (!) TX and the Palm Bluetooth Keyboard, after years of using the Tungsten T3.  For the most part I'm happy with both.  There's just a little downside to the keyboard, that is, the lack of a key combination to duplicate the Graffiti stroke that involkes shortcuts (these are the mostly custom texts that you set up in Prefs to insert by making the stroke followed by just one or two or three characters).  On the Ultrathin Keyboard, which I used with the T3, the fn-ctrl combination made the shortcut stroke on the screen, after which I could type (for example) "dts," which would insert a date and time stamp.  I think the Palm infrared wireless keyboard does the same thing.  If there is such a functionality on the BT keyboard, it's not documented and I cannot find it.  (I suspect that it may have been left out because it may be mostly used with smartphones, Treo series etc., which have the hardware keyboards and so dispense with Graffiti, but I use the Graffiti shortcuts a lot, so this omission makes me a somewhat unhappy camper.  If anyone has discovered a way to invoke this function on the BT keyboard, I would be very interested.)
