Universe Design - one big one or several subject specific universes?

Hello,
We are scoping out our BO universe design for an SFA/CRM solution.
Source data is Siebel CRM, combined with Sales data from third parties. Limited other data beyond that.
Should we build one big universe with all the subject areas in, or should be build several smaller universes, and ensure we can report across universes (Synchronisation?)
Also, does any one have experience of the siebel rapid marts?
Ian

Ian,
Please keep in mind that the limitation is one connection per universe. So, as long as the data from two sources is merged in one database, you can create one universe.
If it were a dimensional model then it would have been easier to create the universe. The relational schema universes can become complex, but it can definitely be done.
Based on the information you provided, I would say one universe should work. Please let me know if you have any specific questions about building the universe.

  • Many small purchases, or one big one?

Hello, I'm actually really new to the credit world and just got two cards, a Chase Freedom and a Discover IT for Students. I want to get started building my credit and increasing my credit limit. I realize it's a slow process, (and maybe getting two cards at once wasn't the best idea) but I want to make sure I don't needlessly slow down this process.
My main question is, are many small purchases in a month better than just one big one, or does it even matter? For Example…
    Chase Freedom CL: $1200
Discover IT CL: $1000I was hoping to use these cards to make payments on my tuition. If every month I only spend a $200 payment from my Discover card, is that better or worse than just buying 20 items at $10 apiece?Again though, the ultimate goal is to increase my CL and CS.

Great cards to start on. I wish I had gotten two in college. I just graduated and got my second. Like others have said, the amount of charges doesn't matter as long as you keep your overall and individual util at or under 30% which you would be doing at the charges you're describing. if need be, don't shy away from making multiple payments in a month to keep your util low while using the cards as much as you like (responsibly, and within your need/ability of course) while earning the rewards. Enjoy building. You're definitely off to a good start!

  • Mosaic - A bunch of different small pictures make one big one

Is there a good software title or plug in for photoshop that will allow me to make a mosaic picture, (the ones where a bunch of smaller pictures fit together to make one large one)?
I googled it but all I could find was online services that do it online for you over the internet. I would like the actual softwre.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Paul W.

I tried it with standard .jpgs from two different sources. My camera and photos from a professional photographers photo shoot so I do not think it is that. The photos I used worked fine with the Mac OSX screensaver mosaic...
Also, When I selected a small amount of photos it did not complete the image. It looked like nothing but random small pics with a ton of white space around them. When I selected a lot it crashed. Also, it always stops at about 78% complete. I was weary as to how well it would work being free and all.
That being said, if there is one that works really well (as in as good as the Mac OSX mosaic screensaver) I would buy it. I just cant find it.
    Thanks for the suggestion though

  • Can Time Machine combine two HDs into one big one?

I know Mountain Lion added the ability to use multiple HDs simultaneously (I have done this). As it stands, it just rotates among the different HDs each time it does a backup. Is there a way to have OSX combine two HDs to make a 'virtual' bigger HD?
The reason I ask this is because my existing iMac has a 1TB internal hard drive. I have two external LaCie drives of 2 TB each that I use for Time Machine. I'm planning on getting one of the new iMacs and custom-ordering it with a 3TB internal drive. Obviously a 2TB drive won't fit, but if OSX can combine the two HDs virtually, it'll end up with a 4TB volume, right? Can it do that?

A hardware RAID is as reliable as the hardware. I believe the LaCie product you mention is a hardware RAID. I have no opinion of its reliability, and I don't know whether you can configure it as a mirrored RAID.
Maybe I should clarify. I see no reason to use a RAID for backup unless you need the space. If you need a 6 TB Time Machine volume, you have to use a RAID -- striped, not mirrored. For the safety of your data, regardless of the amount, you need redundant backups, not RAID. That is, you should have at least two independent backups, at least one of which is off site at all times.

  • Capturing One Big Video File

I can't seem to find the setting to let me capture one video file in PE7. It seems to create several and all I want is one. Which setting is it?
    Thanks,
    Brian

I'm with Hunt. I thought if you turned Scene Detection off, it would produce one big file. But I guess I'm assuming you're capturing DV-AVI from tape. If PRE is giving you fits, WinDV is a very nice (and free) capture utility that would produce one, big file for you.
I haven't yet worked (much) with HDD / flash card source assets, but I believe in that case the source would be in different files, no?
Just out of curiosity, why do you want one, big file versus several  smaller?

  • Row level security at universe design level

    Hi,
I am creating a Universe layer on top of non SAP OLAP cube ( from MS Analysis Services 2005 ) .
My concern is that can we maintain the row level or data level security at universe design level or if i am using that universe in creation of WEBI report so is there any possiblity to maintain this security at WEBI level.
    Regards,
    Mishra Vibhav.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Much Appriciated.
My only concern is that i read in the Universe Designer developer guide that it does the row level security so can eloborate a bit about how we maintain at Universe level.

  • Can BO universe design tool read from more than one data source

    Hi Experts
can I add personal data (from excel or Text) on a designer that is connected to relational Database
can we combine more than one universe from different data sources to do so
    Please advise
    thanks all

    Thanks for reply
I tried the linked universe concept but it is not working when I read in this topic in the universe design tool guide it indicated that
both universes should have the same database I cote from this book
("The core universe and derived universe use the same data account, or database, and the same
    RDBMS.")
I also checked in the designer help it says the same condition
If you have idea how to do so please send me the steps
    thanks

  • Large form set: Deliver in portfolio, or build one big PDF?

    Greetings, all--
I am using LiveCycle to recreate a set of 24 or so forms that were originally built in Word. My users download the forms, complete them on their desktops, then print and submit the forms in hard copy. Most users are not tech savvy. The forms must be very easy for them to access, open, navigate, and print. Most also function within severe hardware limitations (slow Internet connections, old machines, etc.). On my end, I have a rusty at best command of scripting and am new to LiveCycle. I know what I want my forms to do but am very slow at figuring out how to make those things happen.
I am working first to decide on how to deliver these forms. It looks like I will have to build one big PDF to get the form behavior I want (autopopulation of like fields, field calculation, etc.). Does that sound right? Or is it possible to set up each file as a separate PDF and package them in a portfolio and still get cross-file behavior like auto field population, sequential page numbering, etc.?
Any feedback on setting up big set of files would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Virginia

    Hi,
    For what it is worth...
    First of all consider what version of Acrobat/Reader the user population will have. Improved functionality comes with each new version. So you might end up including features in your form that won't work on the users' PC. In LC Designer 8.2 you are able to define the target version (in File/Form Properties/Defaults) and then check in the Warnings tab to make sure that the form will run OK in that version (eg no warnings);
If people don't have to save the form (or the data that they have typed in) then you don't have to worry about Reader Enabling the form. This gives the ability to users with Reader to save that (Reader Enabled) form. Useful if they are filling in the same form regurarly.
The implementation of Portfolios in version 9 is very good. However if users have older versions of Acrobat/Reader then it will revert to the previous implementation of Packages (less graphical) and users will get warning messages.
Keeping the forms separate will help performance; but may make it more difficult for users to locate the correct form. Creating one large form in LC is possible (and will make it very easy to share values across the 24 forms becuase they will be in the one XFA PDF); however if each form has multiple pages and there is dynamic hide/visible script then performance may be a problem. If the form is static (eg does not grow) then performance will not be as badly affected with the single form approach.
There is a work around to get forms to talk to each other (whether in a portfolio or not), but it requires a good bit of scripting and a cool head.
In summary, if you are working with static forms that will not grow (fields not extending to accomodate overflowing text) then I would go with one form.
You can always develop the single form for the time being and then at a later stage break it out into 24 separate forms.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • One Big Ol' Report

    Ok Here Goes
Here's my scenario - I have built several separate reports, and all have conditions on them so they only show based on a variable. They are matrix reports:
    EX:
--Report 1 where PRODUCT CATEGORY = 'SHIRTS'
    (SHIRTS)
    PRODUCT          ATT1   ATT2   ATT3    ATT4
Cotton T-Shirt   Blue   Large  Cotton  Pre-Shrunk
--Report 2 where PRODUCT CATEGORY = 'SHOES'
    (SHOES)
    PRODUCT     PRODUCT SUBCAT     ATT1      ATT2     ATT3
Boots       INDUSTRIAL         12 Hole    Y        NI have a list (shown as tabs) across the top of the page and the user can view any of the reports for that category. The list just sets the category variable. I did this because each report has a different set of descriptive criteria to show. Shoes show the number of eyelets and whether they are designated as safety shoes, but that wouldn't make sense in the context of shirts.
My question is not about how to do the matrix reports, but rather how to get all of these report sections into one page and allow the entire set of pages to be downloaded to a PDF. Currently each small report can be downloaded to a PDF, but not the entire thing. Problem is I really can't do a union in the query because the number of columns I need are different, and the titles are dynamic.
So does anyone have an idea (short of using Oracle Reports) to get multiple separate report regions to print to one big PDF?
    - 405 -

Why do you hide yourself behind a number? That's actually not nice and fair. And then,
you expect the others to help you with such a big thing.
I don't know much about .pdf, allthough I think it would work there as well - with some
HTML => XHTML => XSLT Stylesheet => XLS-FO to => PDF... conversions using FOP.
However, to get this into an excel file would be a piece of cake.

  • Making two small hard drives into one big partition, so i can install jsdk

I want to install jsdk but my hard drive isnt big enough. I connected a second hard drive to the same cable as my 1st hard drive, i want to make one partition. Is that possible? How can i do it so to harddrives look like one hard drive when i open "My Computer" I have fdisk, but what do i choose to partition it correctly?
    thanks,
    N

i explain what i know but if i am wrong maybe some others will correct me:
From what i know, there is no way to auto fill the second when the first is filled. BTW the first will not be filled because if it does, there wont be enough space to run your other program.
Master and slave is like a primary harddisk and a secondary hardisk
Master is where your OS resites and is commoly known as C drive whileas secondary can be your D, E , F( i am refering to harddisk not your CD-Rom or floppy drive)
Logic partitioning is where u separate your one hard disk into several parts... Like u can separate your C into several shelves to store things. No conflict will arise if same filename is found in the C drive.
Extended is where u separate the separated portions of the hard disk... like separating one shelf into two: one to keep your books and the other to keep your pencil etc.

  • Is there a way of making one portal instance serve several domain names ?

We have one Portal instance (3.0.8) that contains one Intranet, one Extranet and 5 Internet sites (Page hierarchies). After redirecting calls to the diffrent domains (sites) to their corresponding Portal page in the webserver, the URL reveals that we are actually running all these sites on the same Portal domain. I know that we can change the Portal domain by running the ssodatan script, but is it possible to have one portal instance work for several Portal domains ? I realise that this is probably far fetched, but I just had to ask... This will not create a big problem for us, it's mostly an esthetical issue.
    Morten

    Yes you can do this.
Your machine must have multiple IPs with a different name associated with each IP.
Look at the ssodatax scripts. This script allows you to make additional entries into the login server repository to register new names with the login server.
Add each name using the ssodatax script and you will be fine.

  • How to split one big master clip into many?

    Hi,
This is probably a simple question for you pros. Thank you for reading.
I have film that I've telecined onto a DV. However, FCP imported a one hour tape as one big master clip. Is there a way I can split this master clip into several small clips so I can organize my project?
    Does that make sense?
    Thank you in advance,
    Nik

Since you telecined onto DV I guess there are no Date&Time gaps between scenes, so you cannot use DV Start/Stop Detect. Then the only way I can think of is to do it manually: open the clip in the viewer, select the first scene by setting its IN and OUT points, edit to the timeline, back to the viewer select the next scene setting a new pair of IN and OUT points, edit to the timeline, etc.
If you prefer you can move each new clip to the browser, and collect them together into a bin, before editing them to the timeline.

  • One Big Clip

Is there a way to merge many clips into one big clip and keep it in the same bin. You can do thie with Edius. It's convenient when you have many clips of one subject. You have them in sequential order with timecode. It's helpful and fast in news editing.

This worked for me. I selected all the clips that I wanted to use. Right clicked and chose New Sequence From Clip. It created a new sequence with all the clips in order. I just renamed it and I'm using it as the source.
