Universe Objects in DESKI Reports - Usage

Hi All,
I have 100+ DESKI reports and all of the reporting comes from one Universe. What I am trying to
understand is which objects get used the most from those 100+ DESKI reports.
I am using BOXI Rel 3 SP 3
The reason I am asking this question is firstly I am new to this company and the usual people hate
change and information is limited.
Many Thanks in Advance

Thanks Amit for the reply, please can you advise where I can find meta data exchange?
I am aware of meta data exchange in Designer but have not come across the 'impact tab' or an option that allows you to download the field names used.
I am using BOXI Rel 3.1 SP 3
Many Thanks

  • Function to show Universe Objects used by reports

Is there a function in XI3.1 to see all of the reports in which a particular Object is being used?
I don't see any of the canned audit reports that would show this.
Example: I have a Universe Object called "Ins. Proper Name'' and I want to see how many of our reports are using this object.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike,
    Here is what I use:
    Result Objects:
    -Universe Name from Actions/Action Details
    -Action Type from Actions
    -Document Name from Actions/Document Operation
    -Action Time from Actions
-Action Type Detail from Action/Action Type
    Query Filters:
    -Action Time Between <Begin Date> and <End Date>
    Report Filters:
-Action Type In List: SQL Value
Note: Action Type Detail contains the SQL for every query that is run within the date range provided. While the SQL contains the name of every query in every report, it does not use reference a universe object by name. i,e, to check whether a specific universe object exists in the report, you will have to search for the object's sql.
Also, I use an additional another query filter to return only objects that match a specific pattern.
Let me know if you need anything else.
    Best,
    Srinivas

  • List of universe for a deski report using deski report engine.

We have some Deski reports. While running query builder , we are not able to get list of universe for those reports. (SI_UNIVERSE.SI_TOTAL is 0).
We need to go for deski report engine approach to get the list for the same. Can someone please help me with the sample code for the same.
    Thanks,

    Hi Ted,
Do you know if the ability to pull DeskI SQL will be supported through Java reportEngine in the future?  Is there a workaround aside from using COM SDK to pull this data provider information for DeskI?

  • Business Objects XI R2 - Oracle Stored Proc - Deski report failing

    Business Objects XI R2
    Hi All,
I have a stored proc created in Oracle 10 - see bottom for code
I run a deski report on iit - using it as a datasource. This works fine in Desktop Intelligence until I schedule the report from infoview - then I get the following error...
"Object failed to run due to an error while processing on the Job Server"
My other deski reports based on Universes are ok.
    create or replace procedure test_PROC1
    (Test_Rpt_Cur OUT SYS_REFCURSOR)
    is
    begin
    open Test_Rpt_Cur FOR
    SELECT ID, FIRSTNAME, LASTNAME
    FROM test_table;
    end test_proc1;

    Hi,
    Cause of this issue :
Once the Job Server recieves the scheduled job and spawns a new child process, the child process is unable to complete the job. The child process constantly is waiting to load the job. Looking further into the log and specifically the startup script, the -port option was incorrectly used (-restart-port) and didn't allow the child process to bind to the correct port using the correct DNS name.
In Order to resolve this issue follow the steps given below..
    1.Open CCM
    2. Stop Server
    3. Right Click Server and go to Properties
    4. insert -port option in to command line, example below
    ex. "
win2k3\C$\ProgramFiles\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\win32_x86\JobServerFullClient.exe" -service -name win2k3.Desktop_IntelligenceJobServer  -ns win2k3 -objectType CrystalEnterprise.FullClient -lib pp_procFC  -jsTypeDescription "Desktop Intelligence Job Server" -maxDesktops 0 -restart -port win2k3.it.bo.example
    5. Save setting and restart server.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to identify reports that are using a specific universe object?

Any idea how to use BO Auditor or Metadata Manager to identify webi reports that are using a specific universe object or universe prompt in the report SQL?

    Hi Samuel,
In case you are using BOXIR2 you can do this by editing the crystalenterprise.webi.xml file.
Replace the CrystalEnterprise.Webi.xml file (Take a backup) with the edited one.
Path where you can find this file- Tomcat/webapps/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/WEB-INF/classes/META-INF/CrystalEnterprise.Webapps/ePortfolio/plugins
Paste the Custom Documentation folder in Tomcat\webapps\businessobjects\enterprise115\desktoplaunch\
May I know your email Id so that I can send you the edited crystalenterprise.webi.xml file.

  • Identify reports using a specific universe object

    Hi,
How do I find out all webi reports using a particular universe object or universe prompt in the report SQL?
    Thanks.

    Samuel,
You might have some success working with an Excel spreadsheet which has been programmed with macros and was developed to access the CMS database and produce a universe to reporting pairing product.  The source for this spreadsheet/macro is on the BOB board, available here:

  • WebI report lost Universe Objects

    Hi Guys,
    I need some help urgently.
We have a report that was connected to 3 Universe.
I changed the universe on one of the queries to a new universe.
When I added a new universe and built new reports, it seems to have removed the objects in the other queries that belong to the other queries. Now when I am trying to attach the old universes to the old queries, it cannot find a match for objects in the new query.
I am very confused as to why changing universe in one query has changed the other universe and removed the objects.
I am also not able to find why when I try to add the old universe, it tries to attach that to the new query.
How do I get my old objects and universes back to my other queries?
    Please help.
    Much appreciated.

Hello, do you have a backup of the report, or another similar version that works?
Not sure exactly what you did, but you never want to remove or change a universe in a report, unless you know what parts of the report depend upon it. When you changed the universe, did you re-map all of the objects to the ones in the new universe? It should have forced you to, unless the old one had been deleted.
Also, the other queries may have been connected to the original universe, meaning they had merged dimensions or other possible connections.
Do you have any sort of backup of the original universe/report that you can revert to that would tell you what depended on this other universe?
    Thanks

  • Find reports using a certain universe object- Dimension

    hi,
Is there a possibility to query the repository directly to find reports using a certain universe object?
I need a list of reports using a specified dimension-object, to be able to rework the reports, since data data-structure in database has changed.

I am using SAP BO 4.1
    Please provide your valuable ideas.

  • Deski reports audit

Does XI-R2 SP4 auditor captues the deski reports (pulished in CMS repository, but not scheduled) usage (who used, when, etc.)? When I query on Activty universe I am not getting any information? I have valid auditor connection. Am I missing any configation on any particular sever?
Some where I read in the documentation that
"The list of auditable actions for Desktop Intelligence only apply when the documents are created and modified from within BusinessObjects Enterprise"
    -Nivas

    Thank you, Bhargavk
I think now I can able to pull the report on Activity universe and can see the actions on Deski reports as well. I was selected wrong object earlier (Document Name instead Object Name where as Document Name only give me the webi documents).
I have few questions though...hope you or members in the forum can answer
I have created a Deski document and exported into repository, refreshed on infoview, save as XLS and PDF on infoview, scheduled on infoveiw and then deleted from infoview to make sure my auditor is capturing all these actions.
Document created, Scheduled and Deleted actions captured, but not Refresh and Save As. But I can see an action name called "Object is Modified", that means refresh and save as captured as Modified actions? Is this the way product designed?
Also, I can some time difference I have performed the above actions at 9:30 AM EST, but the reports shows 1PM, is it following some European timings?
Appreciate any hints on the above.

  • TimeoutmexpiredState: HYT00 error while refreshing Deski Report

    Hi All,
I am tryting to refresh a deski report and get the following error:
Error during SQL execution: (DA0003): Exception DBD, [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Timeoutexpired state: HYT00] The following data providers have not been successfully refreshed: QUERY with CONNECTION. (DMA0007): (Error: INF)
The report has prompts e.g Regions. When I select Region 1 the report runs fine, but when I select Region 2 this error occurs. I presume this region also has a lot of data and could take a couple of minutes to run.
I have tried analysing the universe and add index's to the database tables to try and speed up the query process - but no luck.
Has anyone seen this or been able to resolve this...
    Many thanks
    Jacques

This is scary... Google just returns 2 results and they are not much use either..
But anyway, I went all the way... and so I shall post the results.
Firstly, I tool the SQL from the report and ran it in query analyser to see the query execution plan. Where I could detect high query cost, I created index's on the tables where appropriate.
Futher, I incorporated the physical tables instead of using views from the database (from my legacy developer)...
And finally, I recreated the report to iron out the objects/tables that make the report run slow when added.
A lengthy process - most probably not the best, but at least the report runs and no timeouts occur.

  • Deski reports appear blank.

Hi I can find data in BO XI 3.1 universe(connected to Sql Server 2008) but my Deski reports appear blank, any reason?

    Hi,
If you are not getting any error message in reports it mean no issue in the connectivity. ODBC DSN i think so you have already setup.
Have you tried with some sample report along with one or two objects only. see if you are getting the data or not.
Copy the report SQL and see if you are getting the data in SQL client.

    Amit

  • Set up profile and object to distribute report

I am getting error Object not found when I created a profile and object to distribute one report to different groups based on the city. However, when in the test mode, it event didn't send to myself who is the administrator. The process to create the profile and object are correct. Anyone have seen this error before? It seems the security problem, but change the security seems fine. However, the user in the group won't be able to refresh that particular report, but is able to create a new report from the same universe. We use XI R2, have been told can only use the deski report to distribute. However, we want to be able to publish the webi report in the long run.

Since the replication configuration is in the primary database, it is also in the database you log ship to. So once you do RESTORE WITH RECOVERY on the secondary database, replication should start rolling. The one caveat is that there must be a distribution
database to talk to. But if the distribution database is not on the primary or secondary server, but on a third server (maybe the same as where the reporting database is), this should not be an issue.
I need to add the disclaimer, that this is nothing I have implemented myself, so I encourage that you test carefully that what I have said actually works.

  • Reporting on the SQL generated by webI and Deski reports

I'm running BOXI 3.1 SP3 on a Windows.  I have about 2800 Webi and Deski reports live.  The majority of these reports return data from a Oracle data source that is not managed in-house.
I'm needing an admin type software that can query the repository for all my reports, generate the SQL for each report, spit out the name of the report and the SQL of the report and any filters/variables on the report into a searchable file that I can parse through to look for specific query filters (and report filters if it has any.)
I have method for pulling a list of reports that are using an universe's object X, but I really need a method of searching all the WHERE clauses all my reports and inside the report in the variables and
Does anybody know of anything  that does this that is available for purchase?  I've tried leveraging the Activity Universe and it's just too slow to use.

    Hi,
I am sorry but I could not infer much from your issue. However, vaguely I understand that you might have missed the grain settings for table A. Generally, when there are no proper grain settings (set through content tab in LTS), the BI Server might show NULL values.
You may want to revisit your LTS for these tables once again and running through level 5 log also might help here.
    Hope this helps.
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • Row Level Restrictions on DeskI Report not working under InfoView

When running/refreshing DesktopIntelligence XI r3 (Full Client) reports under InfoView, the row-level restrictions applied in the universe are not being included in the SQL (additional filtering is NOT happening). However, if a user creates a report using the same universe in WebIntelligence or if the user runs the same report in DesktopIntelligence, the row-level restrictions are working.
It strikes me that the problem has to do with security rights granted (or not granted), but I can't figure out which settings would allow the proper running of a DeskI report under InfoView.
    Thanks for any assistance rendered!

    Mike,
Do people connect to Infoview and Deski using the same authentication method and the same username?
How does this compare to how your data restrictions are configured?
Are you using @Variable('BOUSER') restrictions? Have you taken domain into account e.g. "Domain\UserName" vs "UserName"?

  • Red Blue issue with published DeskI Report in InfoView

    Hi everyone,
i'm expieriencing a strange behaviour with my published DeskI Reports.
I'm using logos in my report and they work just fine... in my full client. As soon as I publish them to InfoView and open them up in the browser, then somehow the color red and blue interchange. Red becomes blue and vice versa...
    My System consists of:
    BOE R 3.1 SP2
    Win Server 2008
    DeskI and WebI
Has anyone expirienced the same issues?
    Thanks and kr,
    Nils

    Hi Stratos,
so far everything is just fine. Hope you are doing great too.
    my IE version is: 7.0.5730.13
    Tomcat version: 5.5.20
If I click on the logos in InfoView, nothing happens.
I tested 3 different ways to implement them:
    1) via link; pictures shows up, but again with the red blue issue
    2) as an object; pictures shows up; also w/ the red blue issue
    3) inserted a cell, and pasted the picture in it, pictures shows up; also w/ the red blue issue
The strange thing is, that this issue only appears in the browser.
    Thanks,
    Nils
