University Alliances suggestions

Dear ladies and gentlemen,
this thread should work the same way as the "Suggestions for forum improvements" thread, but for UA(C) only. We have some enthusiastic students/ SAP rising stars/ active SDN members willing to improve the UA(C) and this is the right place to do it. Follow/ watch the thread if you think you can contribute here or are interested.
Have a nice day, Otto

Hello Julius, it´s always nice to have your support:))
If you would like to help, it would be cool to have some easy-to-get content where one can understand the security risks and the costs. I have attended few security classes at the university, but must admit I have never put any special accent to the security aspects in the daily routine. Even for me (after those classes) it would be cool to learn what, how, when and stuff. Especially because you are a cruel-world-professional which differs a lot from the university classes and could provide a brief overview of quick-wins as well as the quick-loses (what is the biggest problem, I believe).
Or if there is a text, which could help here, written already, could you please share the link(s) here? Why: please check this blog by Juan Reyes: /people/juan.reyes/blog/2010/05/11/back-to-basis about what is the basis
or XY: From Java developer to SAP Java developer by me: /people/otto.gold/blog/2010/05/24/xy-from-java-developer-to-sap-java-developer which are targeted on the young or new people in our field. I have noticed people appreciate this kind of "opening content".
If we could have one for the security (or like a short series), would be cool to add it here:
/people/otto.gold/blog/2010/03/31/want-to-switch-to-sap-consultancy where some of the newbies come to start from (I have spotted this article has been featured on some SAP official start pages/ twitter etc.).
For both of us it may not be a problem but a benefit, that SDN is stuffed by high quality and deep content, since we have years of experience (I need one hand, how many hands do you need to count:)) but I still feel a debt to the newbies, students and other who need some more help to become the new rising stars and SAP professionals.
Regards Otto

  • Unable to access contents of University Alliances

    Hi All,
While trying to access University Alliances contents am getting this error
    Unauthorized
Access to this place or content is restricted. If you think this is a mistake, please contact your administrator or the person who directed you here.
Can somebody help me to overcome this...

I don't know how helpful this will be, for previously there was a poster here, David Gimeo Gost who is a guru with Mail, but he has not posted for a long time. As your post is getting old, here is an attempt to offer some advice.
The outbox is, as you have probably guessed, the repository for emails that failed to send, usually because the intended recipient's server is down, and they will sit there temporarily until Mail tries to send them later. Another possibility is that the address is invalid.
If either of these things happen, you will be informed that it could not send the email and place it in your outbox until it tries again later. You should be able to see the contents.
If the outbox shows (7) items but on clicking on it there are none, and you have not received any message notifying you of failed delivery, then it may well be that there is nothing in there, and that the supposed (7) emails is some display error occurring in Outbox.
If you agree with this line of thought, you could simply delete the outbox by
    1. Have Mail closed.
    2. locate the ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Outbox.mbox
and drag it to the Desktop. Opening Mail will create a fresh one, and hopefully one that shows no 'phantom emails'. You can always save the old one in another location until you are satisfied that there was nothing that failed to send.
One thing to be mindful about is that when Mail's mailboxes get too large, erratic behaviour can result. In 10.3 this can happen if your mailbox starts to build into several hundred MBytes or more.

  • SAP University Alliance - University Offerening and Teaching Strategy

My Idea on the Teaching Strategy is as below
I divide it in two phases,
    Phase - 1
Before starting anything on SAP,  start with What is an ERP?
Which are the various departments within an Enterprise and respective Business Functions?
How the Information and the documents flow within these Departments?
Why the need of Integrated Solution and its importance as Management Information Systems or Business Intelligence Systems for Decision Making?
(This can be explained taking the standard routine business transactions. This will develop the fundamental knowledge base within the university students.)
Now start with SAP as an Enterprise Application.
Different Application Areas/Modules, Solution and Business Maps available within SAP.
Different SAP Products that are used for the end to end solution within these Solution or Business Maps.
    Phase -2
Start with the user activities taking the business cases from above business scenarios.
Once Students are comfortable in the understanding of basic modules end to end business processes for certain industry, start with the specialized area based on their faculty like for logistics SCM-Procurement, SCM-Mfg or SCM u2013 Order Fulfilment.
This can be then taken to the expertise level based on the time availability or the course duration.
I have taken some of the sessions in the university and I am confident that this helps students to understand the ERP pretty fast.
Now challenge and a Question are
    1. With growing requirements to support SAP Applications across the globe, Are current University Alliance offerings meet the Industry Demands?
    2. If not? Is SAP providing the flexible model to universities to model the contents as per the Industry Requirements?
    Regards,
    Sambhaji

    Hi Otto
The blog did not go the way I had initially intended. I was expecting universities to post comments about how SAP Mentors could possibly assist in their programs. I would then try and source the appropriate SAP Mentor or experts who could assist.
We have been very successful at Victoria University in building these relationships and I was trying to assist other universities.
We have organised Tony de Thomasis to teach a subject next semester based on the Netweaver stack. We will be working with the SAP community to develop the case study for the 2011 Australian Dashboard competition. In late October we will be conducting a Supply Chain Simulation game involving teams from universities and industry mentors.
The blog has resulted in SAP experts offering their assistance to work with universities and no universities requesting assistance.
I will continue to look for opprotunities of how to bring industry and universities closer together and hopefully some of the things we achieve will be models for similiar activities to be conducted by other universities.

  • How can I convince SAP that I'm in the University Alliance?

My university has paid to be a member of the University Alliance. I was told that I had to sign up as a public user and post a message. Then somebody would reply and at that point SAP would realize that I am a member of the Alliance and I could sign up for courses. That seems like a needlessly complex and unfriendly process, but here we go.
    Joel Rudin

    Hi Joel,
I would like to add that once you get familiar with our University Alliances community and also the overall SAP Community Network of 1.8 million members, you will hopefully understand why there is the step of complexity.  The SCN communities are voluntary, public networking 'portals'.  We cannot and should not register you for a volunteer community.
The Collaboration Workspace for UA members-only provides materials that only those universities who are licensed to use our software for academic purposes would be able to use.  We wanted to allow you to enter the CW through the UAC and to move between both environments. This is why we need the extra step to identify you also as a professor and not a student at your university.  Practically all professors in the community would agree that we need a work and discussion space where colleagues can interact without students' involvement.
I also want to let you know that there is no payment for membership in University Alliances.  SAP does not earn any fees.  Your registration in our University Alliances community gives you access to many resources for teaching and academic projects, as well as contacts to our customers and partners.  The fee that your university pays is to a non-profit hosting center at a university, a University Competence Center, for physical and technical data center environment support.
Thanks for joining and I hope to meet you at Curriculum Congress 2010 or sooner.
    Best Wishes
    Bob

  • Three course University Alliances certificate:  North America Program

I had been told previously that if a student completed three courses with a specified threshold of SAP content, those students could be awarded an SAP University Alliances certificate (not certification).  This also recognizes that these students are 'qualified' to take the TERP10 training.
Is this program still ongoing?  Is there a template for the physical certificate? (Perhaps incorporating the University Alliances logo.)  Is there a specific process that must be followed related to these certificates?
Thanks for any info that can be provided.
Edited by: Heather Czech on Sep 24, 2009 9:01 AM:  Tony - I clarified that this Q applies very specifically to the UA program in North America, as each region may have a different response.

    Tony,
Thanks for the question.  I'll give you the basics here - then the details can be worked through directly with Gail.
In North America, UA member schools that utilize SAP software in several courses may offer an "recognition award" to students that meet key criteria.  Generally speaking, the student must:  1)  have taken at least 3 courses that have a minimum of 30% hands-on SAP content in it each course, and 2) must have achieved a grade of "C" or better in each course.  Some member schools find that students gain some competitive advantage by being able to demonstrate that they've received a fair amount of SAP content by showing the award to a recruiter in an interview.  This award is not tracked by SAP, and is not linked to a TERP10 certification a student may achieve with additional learning and the passing of a certification exam as you noted in your post.  Touch bases with Gail offline to go over the process details if you're interested in learning more.
Since you brought up TERP10 (and others may be curious), let me expand a little further on the idea of requiring students to take multiple courses with a good amount of hands-on SAP material to "qualify" to take TERP10.  Over the many years we've been offering student certification in North America, students who have been exposed to SAP in multiple courses  do better in the TERP10 class & certification exam than those who have not.  Some schools choose to extend the TERP10 opportunity only to those that have taken at least 3 courses w/30% SAP content.  TERP10 instructors have told us the class becomes difficult to support after the size gets past 25-28, so setting a minimum criteria like this sometimes helps to prioritize participation when a school is only able to offer 1 TERP10 course.  In addition to the SAP content criteria, we also recommend in North America that TERP10 attendees be starting their junior or senior year, or are a graduate student.  This gives the added benefit of being exposed to many business processes supported by SAP software during their university coursework ... which also helps.   The challenge that a student faces if they have no SAP exposure and limited business process exposure is that they have to learn both topics over a busy 2 week period.  All that said, Gail and I work with schools on this question to help make sure students have the best chance for success.
    Best Regards,
    Heather

  • List  of  SAP  University Alliance  Universities

Hello  to my Fellow  SDN  Members,
I really need a big favour from you  guys.  Can i please have the list of all the universities  in North America  offering this  fantastic  University  Alliance  Program.  Your  Quick  response  will be greatly  appreciated.
    cheers
    Amar

    Hi Sachinkumar,
SAP's University Alliances Programm aims at supporting universities in delivering high quality education by using SAP software as real life examples in lectures. Universities can build upon many different assets when participating in the program. A large diversity of solutions is available and is typically hosted and maintained by University Compentence Centers (UCCs) or supported by Academic Competence Centers (ACCs). Also lecturers have access to a variety of ready-to-go curricula and have the option to take part in SAP provided trainings.
    <br/>
If you want to get a more in depth overview of the program, you can check out the UAC part in the SDN and start with the overview here.
    <br/>
Hope that sheds some light on what UAC is and what is part of this program.

  • Universe Design Suggestion for a Report

    Hi Guys,
I am building a trend report from a fact table that was newly built in SQL server 2012.
Prior to this table there was a manual process of data importing into SQL Server and then bringing into BO universe for reports.
With the new change the fact table has data from both the old and new process.
Basically the column looks like -
    Defect Type 2
    1 - new process
    2 - new process
    3 - new process
    4 - new process
    Missing - old process
    lost - old process
    Found - old process
the developer has added id's instead of the description in  the new process.
When I bring this in universe I join the id's to the look up table so that I can get the description.
My question to you is regarding the data that already has description from old process - How can I bring all together in one report or if you can can suggest me a way to do this trend report.
Also, there is a cut off date when the old process has moved to new code.  OR Should I bring this in 2 different tables.
Any suggestions will be really helpful.
    Thanks,
    Jitan

I was thinking of putting a filter on the fact table and do the join with all dimensions. This will give me data going forward with the automated process.
For the manual process data that is sitting in the same table I will create a derived query to give me data for the old process and will bring it as another class.
I am just thinking by doing this if I can combine both the dataset into one at report level.
Let me know if i am going the right direction.
    Thanks,
    Jitan.

  • Can't log in to FaceTime any more, though pw works elswhere the in Apple universe.  Suggestions?

I just changed my AppleID pw.  I can log into iTunes and this discussion group OK, so I know the PW is good, but FaceTime consistently gives me the msg "The server encountered an error processing registration.  Please try again later."  I never had any problem before Apple pushed the latest upgrade.  I used to be able to log into FaceTime without presenting my pw (except for the very first time, of course), but after the upgrade a pw was demanded. The old pw for my AppleID did not work so I set up a new pw, which works elsewhere.  But I still can't get FaceTime going, and it's been a couple of days.

    KK,
For some reason, a Mac using Facetime needs to be set to the time zone it is in.  It could possibly have something to do with the FT routers that your call is guided to.  In any case there were two Facetime users I know of, that got their Facetime working by resetting to the proper time zone.  I surely hope this works for you so you can start talking to your folks "across thepond."

  • SAP and University jointly offered scholarships / bursaries

    Greetings all,
May I ask - do any universities provide any financial funding to their students within the remit of the UA Program. Two universities in the UK have for the past two years offered an SAP Scholarship / Bursary. University of Surrey offers ten bursaries worth £5,000 each - in effect they reduce the cost of the degree for the student by £5,000 rather than giving them a cash prize. They refer to these as the SAP Scholarships principally because they introduced an MSc an it went from 12 to 60 students by marketing their membership of the UA program.
Lancaster University does the same with a single scholarship on their IT and the Management of Change degree - reducing the cost by £3,000 and referring it to it as an SAP Scholarship.
These are of course both marketing approaches as SAP hands over no money itself but they represent a real investment of about £55,000 on the part of the universities as it is real revenue lost. The benefit is that the universities get a huge marketing boost and are able to attract both more students (12 to 60) and better students (in both cases the students have to have been awarded a 'First', or in other words the top rated degree obtainable in the UK.
I was wondering if any other universities around the world have adopted anything similar and what other marketing / promotional techniques faculty use in collaboration with SAP to attract more and better students.

  • How can I get involved with teaching SAP BI at a University

I have been working on SAP BI for about 8 years and have good ideas on where it can add value to companies. How can I go about teaching it at a university?

    Hi Arvind,
Well you will certainly be in demand if you have practical experience so I suspect that the problem won't be searching for teaching opportunities but selecting from the many that are offered. Real world experience is invaluable as it puts meat on the bones of materials which students will have had access to prior to your arrival. In some of the UK and Irish schools consultants are asked if they can assist in amending or putting together teaching materials and then co-presenting the materials to students. This formnat often works very well - so well in fact that in those cases where I have attended the lectures tend to be wildly over-subscribed and students will fill every available floor and wall space!
I would certainly echo Bob's thoyghts with regard to including some additional information though. It's very easy to get requests from multiple institutions that don't reflect your skills or interests and this can be headed off by making it very clear what you want to talk about and what your range of interests might be / companies that you have worked at / any research or prior teaching you've done and certainly not least - what you actually enjoy doing.
I would also suggest that case studies are in huge demand - a lot of my schools have formed local collaborations with smaller SAP implementers because they can provide a case study, sometimes in collaboration with a speaker from the case company, and this really enables the university to show local relevance.
I would also suggest you indicate the sort of time that you would be prepared to give - perhaps you have a format in mnd that fits in with your professional life? this is important as the est collaborations take into account the needs of both parties.
    All the best

  • Reg: Masters in ERP-SAP from victoria university melbourne

    Hi All,
I'm kishore from India, this is regarding the Masters in ERP-SAP coursework being offered by victoria university, melbourne. I would like to know wether victoria university is an alliance member of the SAP university alliance programme. I tried to download the excel sheet under the "UA around world" as suggested in most of the threads, but unfortunately not able to do so.Also, I cannot find the university's name in all the random searches I did on the site.  Can anyone please let me know if this course is accredited by the SAP-university alliance programme.
    Expecting your reply eagerly,
    Many Thanks,
    kishore M I

    All ~
I have been following this thread and it seems like there are confusions, apprehensions, doubts and above all a lot of anxiety in doing an SAP course.
I have been working in SAP for almost 12 years, in different roles and capacity and in different areas. My understanding is ERP goes beyond just customization and developing a few custom objects. It is more about understanding the orgnizational processes and leveraging the integrations principles to achieve the strategic objectives. But infortunately the so called institues think that imparting training in a module with a few customzation settings would help the market need. Absolutely NO. It needs more than this. And one way to achieve this is probably making a ERP curricum in the management institutions or in the universitities. Probably VU is a good example to fit in this area. I am not much aware of how VU works but yes the universities around the world need this kind of education to bridge the gax exising between the education institutues and the market need.
The  new bread of MBA students knows the subjects very well in their domain but when it comes to understanding how an organization runs they falter to a great length. Till now I have rejected more than 60 MBA Graduates in the interviews for SAP area not becuase they are not good in their subject or SAP but becuase they don't know the underlying processes and how to meet the EXACT requirements from the customer. The customers now a days are looking for cost effective solutions with a lot of process management stuff involved. The responsibilities of the consultants are not just limited to the implementations alone but adding value to the existing processes and improving the process management. This can only be achieved if one understands the various principles involved in the area of ERP and for that one needs an in-depth knowledge about this. No doubt there are institutes churning out so called SAP consultants but unfortunately they are unable to meet the customer demands and in the end adding up to the fristration of the stake holders and eventually adding to the cost of the projects. This is the real fact.
Addionally to tell you the trugh nobody in this world gives a gurantee for the job. Getting a job is the responsibility of the student, of course the institutes definitely can help in co-ordination. I have recriuited many consultants who knows SAP only about 30% but knows more about the intergrations aspects well, inclduing the organizations core processes. Believe me they are very successful in delivering the solutions.
So just wanted to provide some thoughts on this and probably this might help you folks.
    Prakash
