Univibe effect in Logic 8?

Anyone know how to create the "univibe" effect in logic 8, made famous by Jimi Hendrix?

Hi,
You might like to try a little phase too... Check this out:

  • Vocal effects in Logic pro 8

    Hi everyone.
My question is if everyone here noticed that the vocal effects in Logic pro 8 are not the same as in garageband 3... I mean I've been working for a while with garageband and the vocal effects of garageband are amazing.. especially the live performance one...but now I just Updated to Logic 8 and the live performance effect is sooo dry compared to garageband live performance effect... the same for all the other vocal effects... they're really dry..I don't know if its my software.. I'm simply sad with this...I Upgraded to logic to get better results and suddenly I see myself having this problem... Could anyone tell me if they have the same problem as me?? Do you feel that your vocal effects in logic are the same or even better than Garageband 3??
    Thanks...

The plug-ins in Logic provide a greater control than those of Garageband, and they come with a price: you need to have some working knowledge of how things work in Logic. Several factors can affect your sound, ranging from where you plugged things in (routing) to what you have plugged in. The problem here is that you're simply plugging in something with a blind assumption that because Logic is a better piece of software than Garageband, your sound will automagically be better. There is no magic plug-in.

  • Do you have to add effects to Logic Pro X loops when mixing a song?

    Hi everyone,
I have a question that has been puzzling me and I cannot seem to find an answer for! I have searched high and low on the internet and still cannot find the answer and so I would be grateful to everyones help with this issue.
My question is that you hear so much about the fact that when you are recording and mixing a track that different instruments for example the Bass Drum and the Bass guitar occupy similar frequencies and we are told that this is why you have to add effects to these instruments when mixing but what I want to know is are they talking about just organic instruments like real drums and a real bass guitar that you manually play and record to Logic Pro X`s audio tracks? Or should you treat the Loops exactly the same? And should you also add effects to the Logic Pro X loops when you are mixing those specific tracks?
For example if I add a Drum Loop or Bass Loop to a project and then start mixing the song should I add any effects for example EQ, Compression to these Loops? And what would be the best effects to add to the Bass and the Drums when mixing to help them stand out in the mix?
    Many thanks.

Whoever told you that overly generalized rule, please stop listening to that person .
The way you post your question (and they are good questions) points out a big problem nowadays. There is so much cookie cutter solutions out there like if you have this, then use that, if you want to get this sound, press that button. The problem with that is that you you often have no idea why you are doing that in the first place.
Let me give you a simple example about gardening (sorry about that). If I grow tomatoes and look up on the internet how often to water them, I can find an answer "water the tomatoes once a week". I might do that and result is that the tomatoes will die. What I didn't take into account is that the advice was given from someone growing tomatoes in Russia, and I live in California where I might need to water them once a day. So, the answer you are looking for is not "how often to water the tomato", instead you have to learn how much water, depending on your climate, the tomato needs"
Your music is the tomato. So the question is not what button to press (how often to water), but what button needs to be pressed, depending on your specific recordings (your climate).
If your bass drum and and bass guitar are more further apart frequency wise, then there might be no need to EQ them, it depends
Nobody should or could tell you what to do, unless he or she sits next to you at the mix and "hears' what is going on and what needs to be done.
Don't get me wrong, I don't say that there is a lot of great advice and general guidelines out there. The problem is when you apply that blindly without knowing a little bit why that advice is give and how to apply that, or if it applies to your situation at all.
In addition: The skills and knowledge about the theory is as important as the skills and experience of listening and judging your recording/mix and decide what action to take. You have to learn what to listen to and what you hear. If you don't know how distortion sounds then you miss out on fixing that issue. If you don't know how a pumping compressor sounds, then you miss out on fixing that issue.
I think you get the idea
    Hope that helps

  • Using External Effects with Logic

I'm about to purchase Logic 9, and also need an Audio Interface.
I've got a Korg MicroKorg, which I intend to line-in for its own synth functionality.  I also intend to use it as a midi control surface to use percussion, etc., in Logic.  How would this work with external effects?
If I create a drum track in Logic, I'd like to do things like run that track through pedals like an EHX Flanger Hoax (I realize sound quality may vary, given that this is a guitar effect).
How what I do that, and what would I need to look for in an Audio Interface to allow me to get the audio out of Logic, through the pedal, and back into Logic?
    Thx.

I think I understand you - you have a choice of Firewire or USB connected devices - Firewire devices are faster and generally more reliable and can handle a larger bandwidth, so if you're planning on recording numerous inputs, for example, this will matter. However, USB devices are pretty good on the whole - I'm using a simple Apogee One at the moment, which is perfectly adequate for my purposes, but my earlier point was that it obviously wouldn't be any good for using external effects since you're going to need to send a signal out from Logic (maybe via a Bus/Auxiliary) to your effects device and then return it back into Logic, so you need an interface with enough inputs and outputs to be able to do that. You might want to have other outboard gear permanently connected for convenience, so only you can work out how many inputs and outputs you'll need and obviously, the bigger the requirement, the more expensive it will be. You'll have to do some Googling to give you an idea - Apogee, Focusrite and MOTU are good starting points, in my opinion but there's a vast range (I'd avoid MAudio)
    http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&gs_nf=1&cp=22&gs_id=2g&xhr=t&q=audio+interfaces+f or+mac&pf=p&sclient=psy-ab&oq=audio+intefaces+for+ma&gs_l=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_g c.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=426f61de939593dc&biw=1231&bih=579
Another point I was trying to make earlier is that Logic includes such a large range of effects to choose from (the Pedalboard is an emulation of various fx pedals which you can swop around) that you may find you can get the kind of sounds you want 'in the box' - so that's well worth a try first.

  • How does the crop-lock and "Effect" settings logic work?

The crop lock and Effect setting have in common the fact that they are unpredictable with a strange logic I have yet to figure out. Questions:
What decision process causes the crop lock to remain locked, and then suddenly decide to stay open from one use to the next  (Or the reverse).?
What makes the "Effects" decide to retain its last used settings, and sometimes not?  (Usually the last customized setting is NOT what I want for the next photo in line to be edited).
    Thanks!

    Thank you for the reply!
    richardplondon wrote:
There is no distinction betwen edited and un-edited. And the tools and controls do not have any defaults of their own aside from what the images possess. You can't put the crop tool on 3:2 and then move from image to image clicking "apply"; this is simply not how the LR interface works.
Understood, except that these settings are an exception.  The effects settings will be stuck in the last positions they where on before you created the edit button.  See attached photo for what I mean by edit buttons and associated settings.  This also applies to graduated filters.
This is difficult to describe.   I think I've figured out the logic but cant understand why anyone would want it to work this way:   If I choose a setting *before* making the first mark (i.e. new button) with the tool, those settings will persist forever until I change them (even if I change catalogs).  If I change the settings AFTER applying the tool, they are forgotten even if I want to keep them.  I never want a custom setting to persist into the next photo because the last tool/setting I used will not likely be the first tool used in the next photo.
And just to be clear, the effects I'm referring to are on the right. The timing of WHEN you adjust those settings determines whether or not they persist in what I consider an undesirable way.  In other words, in order to avoid messing up the presets, I must always start the tool before adjusting the effects. That is the only way to keep them from persisting into the next tool/button operation.

  • Good hardware to run After Effects and Logic Pro?

    Hello Anyone Who Will Listen!
I am currently using a 15" MacBook Pro running on OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)
--Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    --750 GB HardDrive
    --4 GB RAM (1333 MHz DDR3)
--AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB Graphics
--I also use a WD "My Passprt Studio" 1TB External Hardive. (I store all my Logic Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator projects on there instead of on the Main MacBook HD which only has 750GB of Memory)
I am a musician and an audio engineer of sorts.  I have been producing music on my MacBook Pro using Logic Pro, amongst some other third party Plug-ins that are each just as big as Logic Pro. And for the past year I've been hittin it pretty aggressively as I produced my entire album with my MacBook Pro being the only computer involved in the process.  As you probably know that is a hefty workload to put on a computer between recording tracks, mixing and mastering...I'm honestly surprised my MacBook Pro made it through the whole process with only 4GB of RAM. Although it did give me some "System Overload" messages along the way which got to be very annoying interrupting my workflow.  And while I was using Logic Pro I could never have another application open at the same time. Even something like Safari could not be opened while I was using Logic Pro.
Now to top it all off I am using other Applications to market my music such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects. I'm using version CS6 for Photoshop and Illustrator and using the new Creative Cloud version for After Effects.
Now that I've explained what I use my computer for I can explain the actual problem haha...Inside Logic Pro there were two indicators, one labeled HD and the other labeled CPU, if one or the other reached its limit the system would overload cause lagging or just a shut down/freeze.  And while working in Adobe After Effects the "RAM Preview" almost never plays back in realtime if I get more than a minute into a song that a am making a Kinetic Typography Video for.
So I need a new Computer or external HD or Increased RAM that will make these things no longer happen...I am open to any suggestions or ideas.

This Trashcan is an option, but carries the usual disadvantages of all Apple products:
    Huge price
    Mediocre specs
    Only single CPU
    Slow video cards
    Only Thunderbolt 1 connection
    Limited expansion capabilities.
A PC would offer much better price / performance, but Logic Pro is the limiting factor.

  • External effects in Logic 8LE

Howdy folks. I am trying to get my external effects units (reverb, delay and such) working in Logic. My signal is hitting the effects units but I am unsuccessful when bussing it to the mains. I have tried every conceivable option. Also have used the I/O ulility which shuts down the signal to the effects even after choosing the correct ins and outs. What gives with this. Maybe someone can walk me through it and my Motu ultralite has all the necessary ins and outs etc and these effects are all hooked up correctly. Is there something missing in the manual? I am half way there, but it seems it is logic itself. Has there been only one update for Logic LE8 so far? Stumped!

Guys, you have to use Aux channels and insert I/O plug-in there. After inserting the plug-in, configure the send/return audio routing there. Output is the 'send' (corresponds to the output of the interface which is connected to the effect unit's input) and input is 'return' (return from the effect unit output connected to an input socket of the audio interface).
Configuration done, just use this Aux channel as a send effect on the mixer tracks.
Do this for every external effects unit. If there are 3 units, then 3 Aux channels should be created and configured this way.
Details: Chapter 25 "Mixing" -> Auxiliary channel -> Using Aux Channels for External Audio Processing (p. 593) of the LE8 Operation Manual

  • Can I use rack effects with logic?

I am kind of interested in getting a rack effect such as the Digitech DSP 256XL Rack Mount Effects Processor. I am wondering if I could implement this with Logic. I currently use a Tascam USB audio interface with 2 inputs. I just want effects hardware instead of logic's effects. How would this work, if it would at all. Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
I use outboard all the time with my Logic.
I do have a 16 input and 16 output converters setup, so I can route to and from the external devices easily.
You can do the same, although if using the FX unit with your current interface you would do a "solo"ed send to the FX, and record the FX returns into Logic, then you could use the FX printed inside logic to play back the effect. This can be easy, or can be hard.
Usually when I do external FX, I do them when final mixing, and when I am "there" with the mix, I print the FX individually into new tracks, so I can recall the mix later on in a different studio, if I need to, or to archive it with the correct FX sounds in the DAW, for the label or artist.
    Cheers

  • Can I Use MainStage Effects in Logic (and vice-versa)?

    New to Logic.
MainStage is amazing but it's only good if I can use the sounds I've recorded with in Logic and re-produce them live, and then vice-versa. So is there a way to:
    1. Export (or use effects directly) from Logic and use in MainStage
    2. Export (or use effects directly) from MainStage and use in Logic
    3. Are my sounds saved in a folder that I can navigate to from within either application?
I've looked as much as I can in the reference manuals but can't believe the two software programs cannot be integrated without having to set up MainStage on one computer to play live and then record on a second computer. So obviously that said, is there a way to attack this on one laptop/quad for home recording?
    Cheers!

    Anyone?
I see no point finding brilliant sounds in MainStage and then having to try to emulate them all in Logic (or vice versa). So can either be integrated with one another?
    Thanks

  • "Stuttering" effect in Logic

I'm trying to create an effect where my audio has rhythmic gaps. I can draw this automation in, but I'm looking for a quicker way. Like some kind of automatic slicing up of a region, then deleting every other slice. That would create the result I'm looking for. Or is there a better way that I'm not aware of...
    thanks.

Look for a tutorial on sidechaining a gate or a compressor.  Gate will get you closer to a stutter, but if you are learning one, learn 'em both so you'll know which to use for the sound you want.
Alternatively, you can hold ('option' I think) while clicking with the scissors and it will evenly divide up the region.  So if you scissor 1/4 note from the start of the region the whole region will be divided into 1/4 note slices.  Grab them all and shorten by an 1/8 note and you've got an (1/8 on - 1/8 off) pattern.  You can put tiny fades on all regions at once in the inspector.
Finally, you could "make a new track with the same channel strip" (track menu) and draw a blank region of, say, half a bar.  Open Automation and draw your volume activity for the length of the region.  Go to track>automation>convert track auto to region.  Now you can copy/paste or loop that region.

  • Wondering if i upgraded to the latest osx would it effect my logic? i would be doing both via app store purchases and wanted to be 100% sure everything runs smooth before i do upgrade

does it lag or did they fix it with last update?

I would wait until the next incremental update (10.8.3) to be released and see the results before upgrading.
There are some problems still, besides the lag that affects some, the latest OS is less efficient than previous versions. If Logic is important and you have a system that working well, why upgrade unless there's something that's a must have.

  • How Would You Do This Effect in Logic?

I'm trying to figure out how I would best achieve the vocal effect in Kesha's song "BLOW."
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_USZ2D0GTxo
In the chorus, there is the catchy "blow....oh...oh..oh..oh..oh..oh" section. Someone suggested she sings the entire line, which gets interrupted by a gate, which could be triggered by a keyboard, so everytime you hit a note, it stops the steady note she's singing. If you guys think that's what they are doing, how would I set this up? This kind of thing goes on in modern pop all the time and I have to find a way to do this effect before it drives me crazy;)
I get hired to do karaoke tracks all the time and whenever there is one these to day it is always a pain due to my being more a traditional guitar, keyboard "organic" producer than synth/FX guy.
    Thanks for any help.
    Tom

    Thanks David.
The plug ins you mention don't really help though, because they can only be set to preset patterns. This is a specific pattern of course. I know The Bee Gees did this in Robin Gibb song from the 80s called "Boys Do Fall In Love" ....there was a section that went "B......B...B...Boys fall in love." They did it by sampling the phrase into the Emulator back then and playing the phrase. I guess I could do that with EXS.
The best solution would be if there was a way to make a gate respond to a midi track, so I could play the rhythm on the midi track, quantize it, then use that as a trigger to the gate...gonna try that...Guess I could also record the midi track as a sidestick or something and use that audio track to trigger the gate....hmmmm.

  • What's that effect with MIDI? How to make it works on Logic Pro?

    Hey guys,
Look at this video at 6:00.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUsq16D7-KE&feature=uploademail
How to make something like that on Logic? Guy uses Logic for sure, I watched other videos.

Look at the time at 6:00. He does something (I don't know how to call it) with sliders on his Akai MPD. It's not a sample it is some effect in Logic, or some option in Logic which you can do with MIDI Controller.

  • External Keyboard-Pedal to control Logics' Wah-effect?

I have a Roland FP-7 Keyboard connected to my Mac (via Midi and a M-Audio ProFire 610 box). The keyboard has three pedal inputs (damper, FC1 and FC2). In FC 2 I have a Roland EV-5 expression pedal. With this pedal I would like to control a wah-wah-effect in logic (I play a clavinet sound on my keyboard). How can I tell Logic to use this pedal as the wah-wah-controller?
Any help is greatly appreciated because I am quite new to Logic!
    Thanks a lot...

Ahh, if it's sending volume ( CC7 ) then you going to have to transform that from the environment window before it'll work for starters.
OK, go to environment/clicks and ports
add a new transformer, you should see physical on the left of the screen it should show your pedal as one of the outputs, click on that output and it should give you a cable, plug that cable into the in of the transformer, now look at this diagram and set the cabling and transformer parameters up exactly like it. You open the transformer parameters by double clicking the icon:
If you have trouble reading this diagram, double click it and it'll take you to flickr then click on all sizes to make it bigger.
This should now convert CC7 ( volume ) to CC10 so you can assign it to automation and use it as in my first comment.
