Dear all,Our company is planning to set up Essbase for developing OLAP applications. We expect our data volume would be more than 100G. Can you give me some guildlines and comparision in choosing the platform for essbase, either in Unix or Win2000 Server? Unix to WIN2000 connectivity

Oracle 8.0.6 clients and server on HPUX 10.20 maintained a simple replication db to NT 4SP6 8.0.5 server. No problems worked well with local naming using tcpip(tnsnames). IT moved NT 8.0.5 to WIN2000 8.1.7 server. NonWIN2000 domain clients and server will not connect. Tnsping,trcroute,lrnrctl all show WIN2000 listener running and available. WIN2000 domain clients and server can connect to Unix server but no connection from nondomain to WIN2000 server. What gives, WIN2000 authentication, tcpip services port limitations (default 1521)?

This is not a replication issue, it's connectivity issue. Replication is not an issue when you have no connection. I'm talking public connection, SQL*Net, all clients use Oracle products to communicate to Oracle servers via Oracle native connection. I do not care if it a Windows, Unix, or VMS operating system. That is why we pay the big bucks to Oracle, to resolve these issues. Otherwise we can all buy MS products at a lower price and service. Oracle position is there is no connection problem between V8.0.6 (Unix) with V8.1.7 (WIN2000) via SQL*Net, fine. Then it must be a WIN2000 window authenication issue preventing the connection. (Remember this connection worked well before with NT4SP6a domain V8.0.5 server connected to Unix V8.0.5 nondomain server). Surely Oracle has nondomain clients outside the domain connecting to a WIN2000 server inside a domain, HOW? My tools (TNSping, trcroute, lsnrctl) outside the WIN2000 domain tell me that the WIN2000 server listener is ready and able. I can even look inside the WIN2000 listener log file and see my connection with no errors, but all non domain clients are terminated with (OEM,SQL*NET,SQLPLUS,ORACLE ODBC) ORA-12545 but of course WIN2000 domain clients can connect to the nondomain server on Unix machine. So we are talking about a one way street, shoulds like a domain trust issue (monitoring Orcale native connection over tcpip)? Please tell me Oracle has a guideline for connecting clients outside a WIN2000 domain that resolves the connection issues.

Oracle8i (8.1.6.0.0) Installation Problem on Win2000 server

Dear All
I am trying to install Oracle8i Enterprise Edition on Windows 2000 server it gives me following Error Message after choosing Enterprice Edition (Typical) clicking next:
"Not all the dependencies for the component Assistant Common Files 8.1.6.0.0 are found. Missing Component oracle.swd.jre 1.1.8.10.0 "
I have installed Service Pack4 already on my server.
However this product Oracle8i I installed on Windows XP successfully.
What the wrong.. or what i have to do to install this on Win2000 server?

Differences between Oracle 8i for a UNIX Platform and Oracle 8i for a Linux Platform

Hello,
J would like to know if there are some differences between Oracle 8i for a UNIX Platform and Oracle 8i for a Linux Platform.
I know that there are some differences on Oracle 8i Parallel Server and i know that some products are not include like precompiler (Mod*Ada, Pro*FORTRAN) on a Linux Platform.

We have installed Oracle 8i on Solaris 8 and it had a great performance, of course that the hardware and licence invested here was costed my the office where i work. Personaly i'd installed linux reh hat 8 and oracle 8i, imagine that, it could be implemented by any individual that has the time to do so.
By buyinng from a company that has a good background you could be sure that you will have support.
Bottom line, if you have the $ to buy great hardware go for a unix platform. But if you don't a Red Hat Linux Server Licence with a 1 year sopport and Oracle data base is about 3500Dls.

Smart View for Essbase Not Available in Planning Rapid Deployment

I have successfully deployed EPM 11.1.2.3 by following the steps in the Planning Rapid Deployment guide (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E40248_01/epm.1112/epm_planning_rapid_deploy/epm_planning_rapid_deploy.html). However, when I bring up Smart View using a Shared Connections URL of http://<servername>:9000/workspace/SmartViewProviders, I only get connections for Planning and for the Reporting and Analysis Framework. How can a I get a connection for Essbase?

As it turns out, the 11.1.2.3 Planning Rapid Deployment wizard doesn't install Essbase Provider Services, just Planning Provider Services and Reporting and Analysis Provider Services. Until I installed Essbase Provider Services, I wasn't even able to create a private connection to Essbase. I had to run InstallTool.cmd and select "Provider Services Web Application" from the Essbase section of the selection screen. I also had to run the configuration utility and select "Deploy to Application Server" under "Provider Services" in the Essbase section of the selection screen.
After that, I was able to create a private connection to Essbase with this URL: http://<server name>:9000/aps/APS
Although the private connection was now working, the Essbase connection was still not showing up as a shared connection in Excel, when I set the Excel Smart View option for Shared Connections URL to http://<server name>:9000/workspace/SmartViewProviders. I was able to get this working by running the configuration utility again and selecting "Configure Web Server" in the "Hyperion Foundation" section of the selection screen.
I was also able to create an XML file as Celvin suggested, using http://<server name>:9000/aps/APS for the Essbase connection. Thanks for the suggestion!

Need Drivers for Essbase 9.3

I need to install essbase on Windows server 2003 however we don't have excel installed on our windows server.
when i try to install essbase client only essbase runtime client and essbase API got installed and it was not able to connect to remote essbase server.
Can anyone please provide me information regarding how to get the drivers for essbase.Or how to install Essbase client on Windows server 2003.
This is very urgent issue pls help....i am bugging the issue a lot.
I cannot contact essbase because i don't have user id etc .

What i am trying to do is to install essbase client in Business Object which is in Windows server 2003.Business Object access data from remote essbase cube.
So i need to install drivers or client in my windows server so that we will be able to connect to essbase cube.
In our BO guide it's mention that you need either Excel Add in or Runtime client to be installed in your Server.
I tried in my client machine it works but when i install the runtime client on server i try to connect to essbase cube it doesn't shows Essbase in Provider just like in case of Analysis Server it shows Microsoft OLEDB Provider for OLAP services 8.0,9.0 it does,nt show essbase.So there is somethingt wrong regarding installation.
Is there any issuus like we can't install essbase client on windows server 2003 and we have to install essbase server?How to resolve the issue?

Sybase iq data source for essbase

Hi,
We're trying to build cube from sybase IQ. Since I cannot find a specific SYBASE IQ driver, i used the sybase driver (ARase22.so) to create a SYBASE IQ data source in the odbc.ini file.
Below is the error message I got when tried to do a query using the above data source from a rules file: ODBC Layer Error: [57] ==> [[DataDirect][ODBC 20101 driver][20101]SQL Anywhere Error -143: Column '@@maxpagesize' not found].
Our system info: Essbase 931 on linux, Sybase IQ 15.1
Can anyone please advise.

I remember having used Sybase(as a SQL source) for Essbase in UNIX, few years ago.
Not sure if it's any different from Sybase IQ you are referring to? Are you stuck up some where?

Solution to Errno:7 in MaxL for Essbase Studio redeployment scripts

This is an answer to an archived forum post that I found via a Google search. The forum post no longer accepts replies. The forum post contained an unanswered question about how to resolve "Errno:7" in MaxL in release 11.1.2.3 when trying to redeploy an outline through Essbase Studio.
I encountered the same error in a client environment and could not find any resolution or references to this in the Knowledge Base, patches, release notes, etc.
I wanted to post the resolution that worked for me, in case someone else encounters Errno:7 in MaxL.
In this particular instance, the MaxL "deploy outline" script worked fine until we upgraded 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.3. After upgrading, we could still connect to the Essbase Agent via MaxL, but the "deploy outline" script fails with "Not able to connect to BPM Server. Errno:7" and "BPM Connect Status: Error". No evidence of the error could be found in the logs for the Essbase Agent, the Essbase application in question, and Essbase Studio. Using the Essbase Studio Console to redeploy the outline worked fine.
The root cause was learned when we ran the EPM Registry Editor to view a registry report. The report showed that while Essbase Studio was correctly listening on port 5300, the web port was still on the old 11.1.2.1 port (9080) instead of the port 11.1.2.3 was expecting (12080). This port number is not exposed to us if we go back into the EPM Configuration tool and drill down to Essbase Studio. The config tool only allows us to change the relational database connection and the "datafiles" folder location. Running "netstat -na" from the command prompt confirmed that the server was listening to 9080 instead of 12080.
Using the EPM Registry Editor command-line tool to update the port's property value and then restarting the Essbase Studio service fixed the issue for us. If you read the Essbase Studio documentation as I did, you may have had the impression that editing a file on the server would do the trick. But the Readme for Essbase Studio 11.1.2.3 provides the real answer:
"Starting in Release 11.1.2.3, the following Essbase Studio server properties are stored in the
Oracle Hyperion Shared Services Registry database.
The 11.1.2.3 Oracle Essbase Studio User's Guide describes all server properties as being in the
server.properties file. To view or modify the settings in Shared Services Registry, use the
epmsys_registry utility, described in the Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System
Deployment Options Guide."

In that thread, someone had questioned if an 11.1.2.2 MaxL client could still connect and bypass the error. I happened to have a laptop handy with the 11.1.2.2 MaxL client installed on it and was able to test that. The 11.1.2.2 MaxL client got the error as well.
In my 11.1.2.3 environment I tried both the 32-bit and 64-bit MaxL runtimes and verified both were on the latest available Essbase patch set for 11.1.2.3. Again, they still got the Errorno:7 message. The problem was only fixed after updating the "server.httpPort" property value via the epmsys_registry tool.

what custom components, should be selected to have only Essbase server 11.1.2..install on server1
Please note only a working install for Essbase database on server1..
or the bear min, custom components/files to run Essbase.. can this be done without sheard services..

so EAS can connect to server1, and access Essbase Cubes..

Hyperion 11 Installation -Shared Service registration is failed for essbase

Hi All,
Today, i was installing Hyperion 11 EPMA system. Here is my scenario:
Installed and configured "Foundation" on one system. Installed "Essbase" products on another system in the same network (Not installed HbNet components). While configuring Essbase products it never asked for Shared Services Server location and hence the essbase products registration with Shared services is failed at the end.
I checked in the services of second system and wonder to see "OpenLDAP" service is running. (I was not able to uncheck "Hyperion Foundation" product options during Essbase product configuration).
I have given the same database schema details used to configure database for the shared services. Am i missing anything. Please help.

It seems you have server1 for foundation services and server2 for essbase only.
Try this scenario with the following steps:
1.For server1, Install and configure your database , Install and configure your foundation services.
after your done with server1
2.for server2, Install and configure foundation services. Point your database to server1.
after your done successfully, with no errors.
Proceed to installation and configuration of essbase products.

and can login in Essbase and "Excel add-in" as well..
but there is one user who is still not working for "Excel Add in"..

Also User is available under Users in EAS ,But no applications are displaying in Analytic Server , While I have given Administration Privileges for Essbase app.
But still error while login in Excel add in ..

Running both Tomcat and JSWDK server on same win2000 server m/c

Hi all,
I was running Tomcat4.0.4 on my m/c which operates on WIN2000 server. Afterwards I installed the JSWDK 1.0.1 on the same m/c. I worked with it for sometime. But when I went back to starting up the tomcat again, it would not startup. The dos window comes up and vanishes within a few milliseconds. I deleted the entire JSWDK folder. Removed JSDK and Tomcat directories and re-installed everyhing other than the JSWDK, but problem persists.
Can anybody please help out ??

Thanks for taking the time out to answer the query. Paul's reply helped me most though Balava had also indicated the same thing ... I could see from the log file that the Catalina environment was not set properly. Earlier I had it set equal to the TOMCAT_HOME variable path which was 'I:\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.4\bin'. I now removed the '\bin' from the path and lo! tomcat was running again on the port assigned to it!!

Can OAS 4.0.8.2 run on Win2000 Server?

I have tried to install the OAS 4.0.8.2 on Win2000 Server. So far, the installation is OK. The node manager can start, but the host name and domain name have some problems. So that, the OAS manager cannot manage the OAS successfully. And, if I try to use hostname.domainame, then the manager cannot be found. I don't know why. Is there any special treatment for run OAS on Win2000?

O.K this scould be one of the ways to solve thisproblem.
I installed the OAS 4.0.8.2 for solaris and spent almost three whole days in figuring out what the hell was going on, where I was able of start the node manager but couldn't get the url on the web. Then after a long long hours of digging, I found out the following. When you specify the domain name in the installer, the installer actually doesn't seem to make an entry in the configuration file.
So if you are using the OFA structure, check out the following areas and make the changes accordingly and restart your node manager again. The areas to check are
$ORACLE_BASE/admin/ows/website40/httpd_<hostname>/admin/svadmin.cfg
--Change
ANY 8889 NORM <hostname>.mydomain.com on the very first line of that file to
ANY 8889 NORM <hostname>.<domainname>
Similarly make the changers to the files under the directories "www/svwww.cfg" and "node/svnode.cfg" and now try stopping the node manager and restarting it and hopefully it should all work fine.
