Unix to delete "Do Fonts"

I need to delete the file "Do Fonts" from many machines, It's located in Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office
Can anyone tell me the unix command I can push out via ARD to do this?
and for anyone curious, the reason is to stop Office from loading fonts to users network home folders.
Thanks!

We have been having trouble with users getting messages saying that this font or that font was missing or corrupted. Could it have to do with the fact that Office is installing fonts into their home folders? I know the fonts are there and work fine. Does this command merely stop Office from loading fonts into the home folders of users opening an Office application for the first time? Should we give it a try? Now would be a good time as I will be going through and erasing all documents from my students' home folders.
Thanks!

Select them in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and clear the Locked box.

  • Font book deleted most fonts when resolving duplicates

After having problems with Word not quitting I decided to use Font Book to "validate" my fonts. It came up with several serious problems and I deleted those fonts. The remaining minor problems were dupllicate fonts. I selected them and chose to Resolve Duplicates. Suddenly nearly all of my fonts disappeared.
I had to use Time Machine to restore the fonts. I tried again and this time Font Book worked as intended. Strange.
My tip is before doing font maintenance make a backup of your font files:
    /Library/Fonts     or  <home>/Library/Fonts
This is on an iMac running SL 10.6.8

Hannah, you better ask in a forum for your system. Which system do you have on the computer?

  • Unable to delete a Font Book Smart Group

I in the middle of making a Final Cut movie that needs some Hindi fonts. I downloaded a few and installed them, and made a smart group in Font Book to keep them all together.
For some reason, the smart group is causing Font Book to freeze. I have manually deleted the fonts I installed from my font user folder but I cannot get rid of the smart group as the moment I click on it Font Book freezes. To make things worse, when I start Final Cut it too crashes!! This is not good. Any help would be appreciated.

I solved the problem by manually deleting the Smart Group from: user/Libary/FontCollections
All seems to be working as it should...

  • Deleted System Font - Arial

Is there a way to re load the original system fonts back into Mac?  And how I might go about doing that?
I have deleted duplicate fonts on my system using Font Book.  I've now realized that other software, in this case, Photoshop and Word, do not automatically default link to the remaining font type file (the duplicate not deleted), but instead hunt around like an active torpedo and find the next closest font to assign.
You would think, no big deal, just highlight and re assign the font.  But for some reason this is not working in Word.
Thank you for your support.  I'm now writing a report due today with the Flinstone Font instead of Arial !!!

    Hi hyla9 canuck,
WIthout the Multiple Master fonts, Preview will have issues. In particular, with the display of PDF files. Not sure what else the absence of those may affect. Without Apple Gothic, some CDs or DVDs may not open. That's one issue I found regarding that font anyway.
Apple may still have system disks on hand you can order. Go to the upper left, click on the Apple logo and then choose About This Mac. Where it says what version of OS X you're running, click on that. It will rotate between the OS version, the build number, and that Mac's serial number.
Call 1-800-MY-APPLE and let them know you need replacement disks. I think it's about $20 for a set. They'll ask for the serial number to make sure you get the correct disks. Then you'll have what you need to reinstall all of the original software that Mac came with.
Not sure if you knew this, or the seller informed you, but you will be stuck at Leopard, 10.5.x. A G5 has a PowerPC CPU, so cannot use any version of OS X newer than Leopard. It also of course cannot run any software which is only for Intel based Macs.

  • Big Problem...I deleted all fonts!!!!

I deleted all fonts in system/library/fonts
now i cant do any things!!!!
only the background plus time, date, battery, languageand Wlan on upper right shown
all other include the upper bar and dock disappeared!!!!
i have a copy of all fonts but how can i restore back the fonts without restore the system??????

There is no easy way to restore just the fonts that will result in a stable system. If you have a full backup (like a clone or Time Machine backup) made just before you messed up, restore it.
Otherwise, rerun the Snow Leopard installer from your Snow Leopard installer DVD & update the OS as required to return to the version you were using before your error.
In the future, remember that things in System/Library should never be tampered with unless you know exactly what the consequences will be. Even so, it is foolish to tamper with them without a good backup.

  • HT2435 I accidentally deleted my fonts folder. What should I do?

It was my fiancé's, but she gave it to me when she purchased a new MacBook. I was attempting to clean it off with my limited pc knowledge and I accident oh deleted my fonts file and now there are not any words... Anywhere!! I have no idea how to fix this. Please help. Lol.

There are three fonts folders, one in your user account's Library, one in the Macintosh HD Library and one in the System Library.
    Which did you delete?
If it's either of the second two and you've emptied the trash, you'll need to re-install the OS to restore them.
The one in the user folder Library only contains fonts that have been installed by that user, so usually wouldn't be a problem.
Poking around in Libraries is not recommended - if you've just acquired the MBP it's always wisest to erase the HD and re-install the OS from the original system discs.

  • If I restore standard fonts in font book, will it delete the fonts that came with my Adobe Creative Suite program?

I want to reorganize my fonts; some I've received from my school to work on projects; others I got from work and some I've downloaded myself. If I restore standard fonts in font book, will it delete the fonts that were installed with my Adobe Creative Suite 5 program?

  • Font Book locks up/crashes after deleting 3 fonts?! Weird! But consistant!

I have a lot of fonts so I understand that sometimes Font Book and programs that use fonts might run a tad bit slow at times. However, lately, going through my fonts and deleting what I don't need has given birth to the weirdest thing ever. While deleting fonts, after deleting three fonts, Font Book hangs and does not respond. I simply have been closing it and starting over. Consistantly, after deleting a third font, no matter what it is, I get the spinning wheel and it doesn't stop. I have even tried restarting and repairing disk permissions. Always hangs on the third deletion. Weirdest thing ever!! Is my Macbook Pro on drugs?!

  • Deleted System Fonts - OS X Won't Boot.

    Hi everyone,
Firstly, I sincerely apologise if this topic has been brought up in the past. I've browsed around and couldn't find anything relevant.
Today I did somethnig very stupid. In an attempt to organise my fonts, I copied the fonts from the [Library/Fonts] Folder (not the user one, but the one in the system folder) and promptly trashed the originals. Then, I restarted the iBook...
Everything starts up normally, until it gets to the progress bar loader where none of the loading text is visible (The: Initialising Network, blah blah, stuff...), then it goes to the black Darwin screen asking for the username and password, which I enter but it only allows me access to the command line.
I have attempted to boot from the Original DVD by holding C on start-up, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Anything else I could try?
Luckily, I had backed up everything a few days ago, so I'd be happy even with a clean install, but, at the moment, I can't even do that.
Thanks for any help in advance.
    iBook G4 1Ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   256MB, 40Gb

    Hi Egor,
In addition to Kappy's advice, read my FAQ on fonts and OS X. If you did indeed empty the System>Library>Fonts folder, then the reason your Mac won't boot is because you deleted the LucidaGrande.dfont. That's the one font OS X can't do without. Towards the end of my FAQ, there's a section called "Font 911". That gives you a few methods to get that font back on your Mac, eliminating the need to format the hard drive and reinstall everything.
As far as not booting to the DVD, that may just be a matter of timing. If you're a little too slow, the Mac will try to boot to the hard drive. Turn the Mac on, and immediately press the C key and hold it down. If you've been pressing and releasing, that doesn't work. You need to hold the key until it's plain that you've started up to the DVD.

  • I accidently deleted system fonts. Now I can't see desktop folders.

I accidentally deleted my system fonts (don't ask), so my Mac starts up, I'm able  to log in, but only get a desktop picture with no folders or dock. I also was unable to boot up with the install disc. I CAN network into my computer remotely with my wife's mac via ethernet, and I can navigate to my empty system fonts folder, but I'm unable to drag the fonts back into the system fonts folder becuause I don't have permissions. Is there a way to override the permissions via the networked mac, maybe through the terminal? Thanks very much for any help.

Backups? your DVD to reinstall. Setup a new drive or partition and install system and then Setup Assistant will pull the old good parts over.
If you have backups, add a bootable backup "clone" and if not, once you do have a system, start using. Only need to clone the system 'as needed' before updates or making changes.   Even accidental changes.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because
the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X

  • Deleted a font and can't open my docs!

    Hi Everyone
No sooner than it looks as though all is well, when...I had trouble with the "missing font' dialog box appearing and discussed it on this forum. Finally made a new template and continued my document in "XXXPart 2" - ie a new document. There had been a problem with running the MS Office test drive as it affected the fonts I was using in Pages for some reason.
Today I found that the main offending font was languishing in the trash and I deleted it with the TrashLockedFiles app. Of course, a message had said the file was in use, but I assumed that Pages (which should have been using the original version of Arial as I had spent some time trying to set that up) would, if all else failed, substitute another font. But Pages just quits when I select 'open recent file' - and it has done it a few times now. It will open a Pages template but not one of mine (which uses Arial font.)
What should I do now? I cannot open two files one of which will take days to re-write, while the original would take months!
    Hope you can help
    Ruth

Just to say that after trying many different things, my file and system are operating properly again. I trashed the iWork plist file, removed and restored iWork (and the update), repaired permissions, all the while testing to see if anything had changed. Finally, I used Pacifist to extract and install the Arial font from the MS Office test run, and with FontBook, rather than Linotype FontExplorer, (because it is less complicated to use and with the Info page one can really see which fonts are being turned on and off), and after a number of restarts, everything ran as normal again.
In the meantime, my files worked perfectly well (though Pages runs slowly) under Panther on the iBook, where the troublesome font had never been installed or removed. It is unclear to me why this should have happened. It is as though this font had taken over my system and despite being turned off and removed to the trash, continued to dominate! Perhaps I should have remembered to restart a bit earlier — but I am not at all used to quits and crashes under Panther and find this behaviour really unexpected.
Anyway, I don't suppose I would have known how to go about restoration activities without all the previous help I have received on this Forum, so many thanks to all the unsung heroes who put so much effort into it.

  • How do I delete duplicate fonts in font folder?

Multiple copies of TimesSem  Oct 21, 2013  7:24 PM  Zero bytes  Document  are in my font folder. Exactly 147,134 copies. I've been deleting them in batches and emptying the Trash but it's taking a long time. How do I get rid of them quicker?
What may have caused this? I reorganized fonts on my iMac following directions in Extensis Font Management in Mac OSX, 7th Edition. I don't want the same problem when I reorganize fonts on the MacBook Pro.

The so-called duplicates are in a folder I made to hold all my fonts. These are blank documents that were created somehow when I moved my user fonts into the folder. I clicked on one or two and they are just blanks with no size to them. The actual Times Semibold Italic font works fine in my applications.
"TimesSem  Oct 21, 2013  7:24 PM  Zero bytes  Document "  numbered from 1 to 147,134.
I rebooted my imac and the process of moving these docs to the Trash and Emptying the Trash is going faster, but I've got over 96,000 yet to delete. Any other way to get rid of them quicker?
