Unknown app needs update, but under which account?
I've got all the family's iTunes media on one iMac (mine). That's five accounts. Every so often, I cycle through the accounts and update everyone's apps. But for some time now, after completing the cycle, one app remains un-updated, as indicated by the number "1" in the iTunes sidebar. I have no idea wihch account this app belongs to -- I've gone through every account that I know of -- and no idea which app it is.
So here's the question...Is there any way to determine in iTunes the name of this app and which account it belongs to?
Sure would be nice if I could right-click that numeral and have it show me -- across all accounts -- the names of the apps that had updates...
Content bought using one Apple ID cannot be merged or transferred to another Apple ID.
Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them.
Another way is to delete them and download using your own Apple ID.

Many people are having this problem for the last couple of days. This is a problem that Apple has to fix. If you look around the forum, you will see many, many discusssions about this and they have been going on for a few days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this is a workaround - for the time being.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
1. Go to App Store
2. Select Purchased
3. Select All
4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. -
Has anyone had a problem with their iPad touchscreen not working? Mine is fully charged, keeping time, and showing me there are apps that need updates, but I can' get the touchscreen to work. I've turned it off and on several times and connected it o my laptop hoping it would "unfreeze", but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

3 apps need update but dont show up
For several days now my iPad and my wife's iPad (ipad 3 w/retina) have had app updates but when we go to view the apps that need the update nothing shows up. The list grew from 1, to 2, to 3 as of today but still we cant see which apps need the update. The app store opens and loads fine, just not the updates.

If you have regularly sync'd your purchased content with iTunes on your computer, and you have NOT downloaded updates in iTunes, then you may have the older version available in iTunes to install.
Delete the app from your iPad, connect to iTunes and choose the older version from your list of apps to install and then let it sync.
However, unless you have kept a copy of the older version like that, then you are stuck now. The App developer has likely pulled the older version from the store, so only the newer version is available in the App Store. -

iTunes says my iPad has two apps that need updating, but when I click the link in iTunes the next page says there are no apps to be updated. This is daft.
I also have 2 iTunes accounts, one for the Swiss Store, the other for the UK store (for free apps only that speak English, I can't get many English language apps in Switzerland).
Any ideas what's wrong?Which account are you logged in with on the iPad ? If the apps that need updating are linked to your other account, then you need to log out of your current account and log in with the other one (you can change account either via Settings > Store and touching your account id on the right-hand side and logging out, or via the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app).

Took delivery of imac yesterday with pre-installed Pages, Numbers and Keynote. App store says they need updating but won't let me because I've never owned the major version of the software. I have paid like anyone else, so why can't I update?
You must be signed into the Apple Store with your Apple ID or it won't work.

My account needs updating but will not accept my card security code why?
As of today, I'm having the same problem. My iTunes account has been up and active for a long time using the same card, then suddenly the security code isn't valid. I've double checked all the info and it is correct, but iTunes refuses to accept it… I also tried the article linked above, but it is no help at all. There is no option to select "None" as a payment choice.
Just to be very clear: I've been using my iTunes account to make purchases with this exact card since 2009, my bank info hasn't changed since 2008, my card is not expired, and the security code is correct.
If anyone comes up with a solution, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I can't even get the free updates to my apps since my payment info is busted. Grrrr. -
I am signed into the App Store on my iphone 4 and one of my apps need updating and my brother is signed into it because I didn't have any credit to make an ID so he signed in so I could download apps but its like its locked to his Apple ID I have tried signing out and turning my phone off its just not working please help.
Apps are locked to the Apple ID that was used to download them. You will have to sign in as your brother in order to update it.

My ipod touch is telling me that the Skype and Twitter apps need updating. When I try to update them they both fail. I have tried numerous times. I have tried connecting the ipod to itunes and removing the apps, to reload them but that does not work either. If I try and update the apps through itunes the system tells me they are updated. Can anyone assist please?

I have reset my wifi so its not that i have also tried it on a different wifi can anyone help pleaseiOS 4.2.1 is the final version of iOS that an iPhone 3G will run, so you will not be able to use any apps that require iOS 4.3 or later. There is no way to get any later version of iOS onto your iPhone without serious hacking, something we cannot discuss here.
You do not get the option to update iOS directly from an iPhone until you have iOS 5 or later.

Are you trying to update only that one app or more that one app (via Update all)? You have to log into the account that purchased an app to update an app. If you have apps purchased by more than one account you have to update tem one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
