Unknown artist displays non default album art

So here's the situation.
Normally if you add an untagged item to iTunes, you would get the default album art (the music grey music note with the black background). This isn't the case for me.
If I add an MP3 that doesn't have the Artist field filled in, I don't get the default album art. Instead I get this weird image. When I try to click "Get Info," there is no artwork for me to delete. I've tried clearing the artwork, clearing the iTunes artwork cache, and rebooting. None of these seemed to fix the problem. This only happens when the artist field isn't filed up.
Any ideas?

I also had missing album art for artists even though I had artwork for all the albums by those artists. I was able to get album art in place of the blank icons. I simply deleted all the music by those artist and re-loaded the music and I successfully acquired album art in place of the blank icons. Unfortunately, you do not have a choice of the album art as you did with iTunes 10, as iTunes 11 chooses the album art  from the respected artist as a default.  I hope this helps as this is the only solution I could find.

  • Default Album Art

Hi. I have quite a few songs which have no cover art, and I really can't be bothered trying to find it all. But I don't really care for the icon that comes up where there is no cover art.
I was just wondering if there was any way to change that default album art for songs with none of their own?
    Thanks!

Not that I'm aware of...but that doesn't mean it can't be done.
If they are all in an album, then you can use any picture you want. If they are all singles, you can do the same thing, but it takes much longer to do.
Personally, if I'm going to take the time to change the "default" cover art, I'm going to use the album cover.

  • How to set the Default Album Art in the Artist Grid?

This option was lost when upgrading to iTunes 11, how do I do it? A lot of my artists have blank Grid art (even though every album I own has artwork).

  • Why does iTunes display the same album art for different songs, but from the same artist?

    Hi,
a couple of days ago I decided I wanted all of my songs to have an album art. Before I didn't actually care, but since I discovered the view mode with the album arts at the top (the fourth one) I began searching for the right arts, since I like it this way.
I've stumbled upon a problem though. When I add two or more songs from the same artist, iTunes chooses to assign the same album art to the songs. It chooses the album art of the song I added first to my music library. How do I get it to show the proper album art?
I use a program called 'Mp3Tag' to change all the information of my songs. When it's just a single, I end up having an 'artist', 'title', 'genre' and 'cover'. The rest of the information doesn't bother me. With albums I add more information though.
    Here's an example:
I added two songs, one being 'Usher - Climax (Kaskade Remix)' and the other one being 'Usher - Scream'. The one added first was 'Scream'. As you can see below, iTunes somehow assigns the same album art to both songs, while clicking on 'get info' clearly shows the songs have different album arts.
    I discovered something else though:
When adding an 'album name' to the songs, they will show properly, as seen below. The thing is though, I don't want to add an album name. When I sync the songs to my iPod, my 'albums' list will show all of the songs as well, which I don't want.
Is there any way to solve this another way where iTunes won't sort by album, but by song title?
    Thanks in advance.

Can anyone please answer my question?

  • ITunes fetching default album art from installed iOS app

    Hello,
Whenever I import an MP3 file (by dragging it from Finder) with -no- embeded artwork into iTunes I'd expect this to be added with the default double quaver album artwork.
However the default artwork is instead taken from an iPad/iPhone app from my iTunes library! iTunes was assigning the icon from the World Atlas app, I removed this app, tried importing the MP3 file again and iTunes instead assigned the icon from a differrent app.
This happens with -all- MP3 files with no embedded artwork. MP3 files with embedded artwork are fine, with iTunes using the correct artwork from the file.
It seems iTunes has somehow lost the double quaver (I suppose it's still in iTunes/Contents/Packages somewhere) from a cache? But clearing this cache may not be a solution as, as I mentioned before when I delete the app from where iTunes assigns its image, it then proceeds to get the image from -another- app.
MP3 files with no embedded artwork show the double quaver fine in Finder.
Does anybody have any ideas on this?
    Thanks very much in advance.

I've read it, and I'm not a legal person, so if you want to be sure you need to contact MS support or a legal expert, but my take is this:
    - The mass download doesn't conflict with the TOU, just as long as it's an end user initiating the mass downloads. Once agents, robots, scripts and spiders initiate a mass download you are violating the TOU.
    - Copy, store, cache is allowed assuming the end user has a valid subscription.
but the sample they gave with fetching data does not check for the user subscription, it checks for my developer subscription...
I contacted microsoft directly...let's hope they answer soon...I will post their answer here...
I can use the API as long as I put the "available on xbox music" badges on the album art as well

  • Windows Media Player in Windows 7 displays the same album art picture for nearly all songs!

    Hello,
I have just installed Windows 7 Home Premium as a clean install on my PC.  I then imported all my music files back onto the PC and opened up Windows Media Player and found that probably 95% of the songs have the same album cover (Timbaland - Shock Value) against them, instead of how thety were before (either the correct album art, or no album art at all).  Does anybody have any ideas what is going on here as it is pretty annoying that nearly every song has the same album art cover.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Ian

    Hi Parkesian,
I would like to suggest you reset the database for Windows Media Player 12 to check the issue.
Clear the Windows Media Player database
    ========================================
    1. Close Windows Media Player.
    2. Press Win + R to open Run, copy "%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Media Player" (without the quotation marks) to the Open box and press Enter.
    3. In the Media Player folder, delete all of the files.
Note that it is not necessary to remove the folders that are also in this folder.
    4. Restart Windows Media Player.
At this point Windows Media Player will automatically rebuild the database.
    What’s the result?

  • Default album art display setting?

Is there a way to set the default song display setting to be the full screen album artwork? I use the ipod while driving and would rather not have text on teh screen, unless I am in a position to read it, if desired. I have the latest Itunes, for Windows XP
    Thank you very much
    STEVE

With the iPod with color display? The answer is no. When you select the larger image, after a few seconds it reverts to the "now playing" screen.
Only the newer model iPods have the ability to keep the larger artwork picture displayed until such time as the centre button is pressed again.

  • Album art the same if album artist field is the same-any way to avoid this?

The situation - It appears that even if an album with various artists (compilation) has different album art for each song sometimes coverflow displays the same album art in coverflow for all songs (it randomly picks one) and not the album art for a given song (in the coverflow view). Filling in a unique album artist appears to resolve the problem (i.e. the specific artwork shows in coverflow for that one song) but if the album artist is the same (i.e. if you autofill the album artists field with something generic) the album art reverts to the behavior of showing the same art for all songs. The goal is to have a way to show the individual album art for these song without having to type in unique album artists entry in the album artist field for each song (optimally being able to either clear the album artist fill for the entire library or do an autofill with some generic label). Basically I want the album art to show for an individual song? Any ideas? (Breaking up the compilation does solve the problem but I am attempting to avoid that. Any other ideas?)

Technically the Album is different if the Album Artist field is different (you are right of course) but that is not the point here. I am trying to achieve a desired result. A combination of different artists songs put together as a compilation and named as an "album" (using iTunes terminology, even though it is not a real album.)
Here is a made up scenario to make sure the situation is clear - Consider 3 songs one by Prince, on by Beyonce and One by Jay-Z. - Now I take the one song from each of them that I want to group together and make it compilation and call an album, called "Wild Combination" or whatever ). There is different artwork for each song obviously (art from its original album or single). Well - I want to see that individual artwork when a given song is playing, not the same artwork for all songs in the "album". Right now, iTunes picks one of the songs and shows the same artwork for all three (i.e. it may be Prince playing but a picture of Jay-Z showing up in coverflow - by the way, the Now Playing box always shows it correctly or the way I want it, coverflow does not and Apple T.V. does not). In the above example the Album artist field is blank.
Partial fix - If you enter an Album artist into that field (i.e. a unique name in the Album artist field for each artist then the individual art shows up in coverflow). If the Album Artist field remains blank it reverts to showing a single art for all songs. If there is some generic text in all three fields (i.e. non-unique, easily filled in generic text) then the art shows the same for all three songs.
The question again, is how to make the individual artwork show up without entering unique text in the album artist field (imagine not 3 songs but 500 hundred or 5000 songs with this problem, unique entries is a no-go). Hopefully that clears up the situation.
Regarding your question about the sort of the art - I have both scenarios but for the sake of this question, lets assume the art is in the song file itself.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated?

  • Album art not displaying correctly

Help! I hate that my album art is displaying incorrectly. I have podcast covers on album and music albums on podcasts. What is really strange is if I have a rental movie on some of my songs display stills from that film!?
What can I do to rectify this?

Tried this and it does not work. I don't think there should be a problem, but there are two albums that have the same name from different artists. The artwork for the other artist with the same album title is displaying.
I am also running synergy 3.0 and it displays the correct album art. When I try to import that correct art into itunes, it does not replace the wrong artwork.

  • IPad doesn't display correct album art

I could really use some help here, I am at the end of my rope.  I have HomeSharing on so that my iPads and iPhones will play music and movies from our iTunes library.  I have an iPhone 5, an iPhone 4S, an iPad 4 and (2) iPad 2 models.  Both iPhones and the iPad 4 will display the correct album art in the movies but the iPad 2's scramble up the album art.  For instance on the iPad 4 shows the Aladdin album art where it says Aladdin is but on the iPad 2 (both of them) it will display random album art.  So you'll be looking at a picture of Bug's Life but the line states that the movie is Aladdin.  Now when you select that movie and it enters the info page where the play button is, the album art comes up correctly.  It's just in the title screen or selection screen this happens.  Then to add to that, the music and music videos all displays fine, the correct album art every time.  For some reason, this is only happening in the movies.  And again, only happening on the iPad 2's.  There is no issue with the newer iPad or the iPhones.  So is this a setting that is goofed?  A software issue that I can't resolve?  I would appreciate any input you can provide, especially if you can help me fix this!!
FYI, the iPad 2's are my daughter's so I have the PG restriction on making sure that they can't watch anything PG-13 or over.  Although it won't display a PG-13 or over movie, it will display the album art (for instance it will show Hills Have Eyes instead of Aladdin although the text shows Aladdin and again, if you click on it the correct album art shows Aladdin in the info screen).  I thought maybe the restrictions were the problem so I shut them off but that didn't resolve the issue.

Me Too. Glad to hear I'm not alone in this...
I can't explain it. All my songs show the correct art in iTunes but it's often mismatched on the Nano. I've noticed that selecting a problem track in iTunes, get info and clicking "ok" on the already correct art, sometimes corrects the issue (for that one track) on the Nano after the next sync.. but not always.
p.s. Other posts say "restore" is the answer. I'll try that tonight.

  • Won't display album art

i've pasted several album art covers to my albums in itunes. the album covers show when i play them in itunes, but not on my ipod. i've tried using small images and large images, but they still won't display. the show album art option is also checked in ipod options. what should i do to get them to show on my ipod?

Connect your iPod, and uncheck the "Show album art..." option. Disconnect your iPod. Connect it again, and check the option. Disconnect it. Does it show the album art now?

  • Album art is visible in "info" but won't display in "album"

I have itunes tracks that display the album art when I "get info". All tracks in the album have the same album art. The .jpg file is located in the folder with the music files, but wont' display along with the album name when in "album" display mode.
Another disc (disc 1 of 2) displays the same album art OK.
What determines when this album art is displayed or not?

The .jpg file is located in the folder with the music files
Any artwork files with the music files will do nothing for iTunes. Unless you have a specific reason for putting it there, I'd get rid of it as iTunes will not use it and you will simply have extra, unused files.
When iTunes gets the artwork, it stores it in it's own database. When you add artwork to the file yourself (in the Get info - Artwork pane) , it is stored in the ID3 tags and is part of the actual song file.
Go to iTunes menu View > Alway show artwork and see if this fixes it.

  • IPod displays incorrect album art for some songs

Hi, I hope someone can help. I've tried a bunch of things and I'm still having problems with some of my album art. They display fine in iTunes and other music players, but sometimes not on my iPod. Sometimes it'll display a different album cover than it should, and it kinda annoys me. The only thing I can do is to open the iPod in iTunes, delete the song off the iPod and drag it back on. I think I've had this problem with songs I've brought back in though. Also, once the wrong art is displayed, it remeains that way unless I delete the song and replace (like I just said). I thought maybe the iPod was stressed by starting up, so I tried running through all songs figuring it would endure less stress, therefore displaying the right album art, and thus it would remember the artwork than me, but artwork still messed up
I tried the diplay album art setting in iTunes
    running through songs on iPod
I started in automatic update and now I'm in manual update, but this problem occurred in both
    Please Help me, someone!!!

  • Album Art Visualizer-like Jewelcase but able to handle 2 pieces of art/song

Can anyone point me toward an Album Art Visualizer that can show FRONT AND BACK album art? (ie: for songs to which you've attached 2 pieces of album art, rather than just one.)
Most "album art" shareware is designed to import album art, but I am not interested in importing. I am interested specifically in ALBUM ART VISUALIZERS -- such as JEWELCASE 1.8 by Optical Alchemy. Most "visualizers" show trippy stuff, which is fine, but I'm interested in visualizers that show the relevant album art that you've taken the pains to attach to your song files in iTunes(!)
Note that Jewelcase is *unbelieveably great*, but it could be improved upon. (Yes, I've donated to the tip jar, and I've mentioned these ideas to the designers, and I'm sure they have more lucrative things to try to do with their time-- since Apple has inexplicably NOT purchased Jewelcase's technology from Audio Alchemy -- something that would, for the legions of iTunes users worldwide, mark such a huge visual improvement over the current iTunes, that the point cannot be overstated).
Has anyone seen anything else that either uses the iTunes Visualizer section to visualize your album artwork -OR- that shows the album art & song info in a different window -- either way -- but, in a manner that is in the same league of quality as Jewelcase? (Or even close, or even pretty neat?)
Again, I am looking for ALTERNATIVES TO JEWELCASE, but also I am looking for a program that improves upon Jewelcase, in terms of:
    1) showing not just the one "first" piece of album art associated with each song (as the "front" album art), but that also has the ability to show the "second" piece of album art associated with the song -- as the "back" album art; and:
    2) visually presenting, along with "Artist" and "Album", more song tag data -- SPECIFICALLY "YEAR".
Note that there are a couple of shareware programs that give you a small window with merely a small 1" by 1" (?) display of the album art next to the Artist/Time info. That is fine, but I am looking for something that displays the art at much larger sizes, like up to 10" by 10" on your screen (like Jewelcase 1.8 does), while you are playing your playlists/shuffling through your songs. This can make for a magnificent Album Art Slideshow, by the way.
Basically, I'm very fond of Jewelcase, but would like to know if anyone has seen any other such GREAT visualizers of album art. NOTE: My iTunes album art is complete/done, and I want to steer very clear of any "album art" shareware that just so happens to come with automatic album art scripts that will try to import some dang JPEGs from someplace.

  • Complicated album art question

here is what i have: an album made up of songs by different artists - such as an 80's album. I have put the individual album art for each song, rather than one generic album cover.
so, while viewing the albums in Cover Flow, the first track is generally the album art that is displayed for the 80's album. However, is some rare occasions, a random track within the album is displayed for the album art.
any idea why, and an idea how to set the album art to come from the first track?

Part of that 157.5mb is probably for files that iPod needs to operate. I removed the album art and other was still about 76mb on my iPod.
Also, I noticed that if I added a video, the size of other went up about 1-2mb. So there are probably some support files that get created. Also, Games would be in the Other category, as well as Contacts. Audiobooks are probably in the Audio category.
Even if you never used the iPod as a hard drive, you may want to +Enable disk use+ and open it up in a Windows Explorer window.
Ultimately, you can use the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod and then re-sync it.
