Unknown BIOS pasword. Elitebook 8470p.

This seems to come up quite regularly... A lost BIOS Password.
In this case I have a couple of 8470p units that are being recycled after donation to a charity.
There is no longer a service agreement with HP on these machines.
Is there somewhere I can discreetly submit their serial and part numbers in order to gain access to the BIOS to clear existing passwords?
Regards...

Spik.

Mazzif’s program will detect your UUID, Serial Number and model number then use that information to produce an .exe file to clear the password.
If you find it to be too technical then.
    3. Replace the BIOS chip.

If you have good soldering skills order the BIOS chip. You will receive a picture of the chips location after purchase.

  • HP Elitebook 8470p - from battery the fan is not working

    Hello Everybody elitebook Expert!
My laptop config in short: i5-3320m 2.60GHz with integrated graphics Intel HD4000, 4GB Ram.
I don't like the elitebook 8470p cooling system and i can't see the normal reason of the machanism.
So, there is no problem when the laptop is on AC power, the fan is on and works well and this is ok.
But, i have problem when the laptop is on Battery because when the laptop is in idle mode the fan is not working but stay.
Only  starts then just when it attains the 55 degrees.  This is not good, moreover it is bad for me, i dont like it because it is warm.
I want the ventilator to work so when the machine is on AC power everytime on Battery too.
In the BIOS there is no option for that and i can't see why...
Plase help me! I need a program what can turn on the fan when the laptop is on battery or a tweaker or something else i don't know what but i need something.
Aida64 says: motherboard name is: HP 179B
                              BIOS type is: Compaq EFI
                              BIOS version: 68ICF Ver.F.32            Date: 2012/05/12
(I know that there is a newer BIOS but i don't think so that there is an option in the new that can handle the fan on battery mode).
    (Sorry for my English please).
    Ákos

    Thanks for the question Akos,
I understand that CPU FAN does not work on battery mode in windows mode however it works in BIOS mode.
firstly, as you know BIOS has control over CPU fan and CPU thermal table - however OS has better thermal managements. once PC is up, BIOS information and thermal control is handles by OS. to trigger a change it has to be still routed through firmware only however instructions are based on the BIOS thermal table and windows power management.
we know the thermal management of windows is better than BIOS and best to provide you best battery performance. so in BIOS CPU fan may be not mostly spinning all the time but in windows its more effective.
one example for the same is, when you update BIOS on your PC or we-write a BIOS - CPU FAn will be running at full RPM during the process because windows does not control the CPU fan at that time due to update/change process.
its completely normal that you see most of the time CPU FAN is off or spins for a very minimal time. if its always off that means there is something wrong, however if its seen off on battery in windows - its ok. i do not think there is anything wrong here.
if you want to have the FAN run always, that means you need to run your PC at a poor/bad thermal table. which i do not think possible with windows 8 platform because its largely looks like a mobile focused(better battery run time) platform.
you may try installing any of the older (prefer non-windows OS) to check. however its not recommended. because it may result in a damage to hardware too (if a non-supported OS used).
Hope this helps... Good Luck !!!!!

    WW

  • EliteBook 8470p i7-3632QM CPU upgrade?

I have tried to upgrade an HP EliteBook 8470p from its default i5-3340M CPU to a i7-3632QM. Specifications (including thermal load, max. 35W in either cases) appear compatible, see i.e. http://ark.intel.com/products/71670/Intel-Core-i7-3632QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_20-GHz-BGA and http://ark.intel.com/products/71257/Intel-Core-i5-3340M-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz ). Upon booting with the new CPU however the screen remains blank, and only caps lock / num lock will blink together 3 times, then pause, then again blink 3 times and repeat. From the documation it seems that this error code refers to 'memory modules problems', even if the same RAM works flawlessly with the i5 CPU. If I place this latter back, everything works normally again. Is there some special requirement that the i7-3632QM upgrade must satisfy? The new CPU should be supported by the QM77 chipset, and be offered in some EliteBook models; I've also tried to update the BIOS to the latest 68ICF ver. F.62 release (April '15), without improvements. Could there be a whitelist for supported CPU's, may it be somehow bypassed? Thanks,--Al

  • Configuring Multiple External Displays EliteBook 8470P

I have an EliteBook 8470P with the AMD Radeon 7570M display adapter.  I am looking to use to external displays as well as the laptop display.  Can I use both the VGA and Display port outputs to accomplish this without purchasing a docking station?  And are there any settings that I need to change to do this?

    Max,
Simply plug in two monitors out of the dock's DP and DVI port.
The third display connects to the laptop's DP port.
    Best of luck, and enjoy!

  • Howto 3 displays on Elitebook 8470p?

    Hi,
I have an Elitebook 8470p (H4F82EP) running Win7 64bit, connected to docking station.
I have one DVI monitor, a VGA monitor, plus the notebook display.
How should I do to have all the three displays working at the same time?
By following traditional procedures I cannot turn on more than 2 displays at the same time (any combination, but max 2 displays on at the same time)?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Matteo

    Matteo,
This really got to me, as I saw a colleague with the same equipment and three monitors functioning no problem.
I finally got my 3rd monitor in, so it was time to figure this out.
After struggling, the solution to get 3 displays on your 8470p with dock is:
DP and DVI out of the dock, and DP out of the laptop itself.
    Enjoy!

  • I forgot my bios hp elitebook 8440p passwordi was wondering if someone here could help me

ok so i forgot  my  bios hp elitebook 8440p
if someone can help that will be really appreciate
    thanks

    Hi:
Your notebook uses the HP Sparekey method of password recovery. You were supposed to answer 3 questions so that you could remember your password in the event you forgot it. Also, you could have enrolled your password with HP and if you lost it you could get it from HP customer support if you provided proof of ownership.
If you just set a password and did not enroll in HP Sparekey or answer the 3 security questions you will not be able to enter the BIOS. If that was a power on password, your notebook is only good for parts (except the motherboard).
There is no way to reset it by removing batteries or whatever.

  • L755-S5216 Due to unknown BIOS password unable to boot to optical drive for recovery

Unable to access BIOS or change Boot Order due to unknown BIOS password.  Called Toshiba Tech Support and they say they don't have a MoBo diagram or sevrice manual so I can find jumpers to reset BIOS.  They told me to call local repair, but they are also unwilling to help.  Tried removing CMOS battery, no go.  There must be somone out there who can help me with location of reset jumpers.  I'm beginning to think I wil no longer be recommedning Toshiba.  Thanks to anyone who can help!

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that number.  It’s an independent contractor for Toshiba and they also are unwilling to provide the simple information on how to reset the BIOS.  I don't understand how no one at Toshiba is willing to provide this information.  Anyone who purchases an electronic product is entitled to a schematic or diagram of the jumpers on the motherboard.  Independent contractors shouldn't be put in the position of supplying tech support for Toshiba, and so it's understandable that they won't and would rather charge $175 for something that anyone should be able to do themselves.   I hope this can be escalated to someone in Toshiba management.  There are many laptop choices.  Holding back simple information to allow one to fix their own Toshiba laptop is not good corporate strategy.
