Unknown caller even when in address book

8707g v 4.2.1.105. I tried downloading the latest firmware but page kept crashing.
I read on a post I should have country and area code before phone number and then caller ID will appear when they ring me. Tried that and still unkown caller appears with no phone number.
I have changed all the settings to show but obviously I am missing one.
I would really appreciate help as I do need to know wgho is ringing me.

Hi,
There are several areas to look for.
Firstly, the other person needs to be sending their mobile number. Ensure other people can see their number when they call first.
Next, you cant have Content protection enabled on your BB. Ensure it is turned off, or that Include Contacts is NO..
Also, whilst we are here, ensure your mobile number is showing against My Number on the phone screen. (THis will help the other way!)
Also ensure you dont have Caller ID barred on the carriers end.
Hope that helps!

  • Contact name not showing in call/sms log even when I call/sms from my address book.

Two things have changed on my phone recently.
    1. I ran the latest update 4.3.2
    2. My phone was not showing all the contacts in my address book that is in my Mobile Me account. Mobile me had 166 contacts. The iPhone 4 had 136. I I unchecked the syncing of my contacts on my phone. This removed all the contacts from my phone. Then I check the syncing options again. All 166 appeared on the phone.
I'm not sure which of the two caused the issue but now anytime someone who calls their name does not appear on the display or log, just their number. I can even call people from my address book and the display shows that I am calling them with their name and photo on display. However, in the call log the name does not show just their number.  This applies for text messages. I send a message directly from within the contact card in the address book and in my text log it shows only the number and not the name.
I've turned the phone off and on a couple of times.
    I would appreciate any advice.
    Cheers

    Thanks iraghib,
In the end I reset my phone to factory settings. I created a back up of my address book and ical. Reset the phone and did a sync again. This fixed it all. I didn't need to use the backups but is was nice to know they were there. I felt entering the various passwords for all my installed apps was a much better deal than adding the international area code to the 166 contacts I have in my address book.
Good luck. And thanks for the post.

  • What to do when your address book disapears. For Blackberry Pearl.

I went nuts when this happened to me. Not that I didn't have a back-up, you should ALWAYS have a
back-up of all your info. I knew that all my contact info was still there, because when someone called or
when I called someone on my address book, all their information still came up on my phone. So I knew it
was all there, but when I went to the address book itself, there was nothing there, and it simply said there
were no contacts. I even added a new one, and that was not showing up in the address book either. VERY
frustrating. So I called My service provider and begged for help. Being a new black berry user, I didn't
know squat about what to do, and I couldn't find anything online that helped me to fix this problem. So, if
this happens to you, (which I am told it happens to people a lot), Here's what you do to fix it....
First you make sure you have a back-up copy of all your backberry info using your blackberry desk top
program. after that, make sure that you blackberry is disconnected from your computer. Then go to the
options on your main menu, click the trackball. Then go to the Security Options menu, click the trackball.
Select General Settings, click the trackball. Now press the balackberry menu key on the left of the
trackball. Select Wipe handheld, click the trackball. Ok, I know thes sounds a little scarry, but trust me it
will all be ok. Once it resets everything your pnone wont work and it is going to look like all your info is
gone, but that's ok. Now go through the setup wizard like you did when you first got your blackberry to set
it all up. you don't have to add in all your info or setup all your emails, you can re-enter all your info later,
and the emails will automatically be re-setup when we are all done. Now To get all your stuff back on the
phone, connect the blackberry up to your computer, and go to your blackberry desk top program. In the
desk top program, go to back-up and restore and restore your most recent back-up. Now click the
blackberry menu on the left of the trackball, select register now, click the trackball. Go to the options
menu, click the trackball. Go to advanced options, click the trackball. look on the next menu for Host
Routing Table, click the trackball.  Now with your blackberry dial *228 and select option (1), to get your
phone in service again.   Now go online and go to: (http://www.blackberry.com/go/vzw), make sure you
have your blackberry.com password and user name and your blackberry pin number. If the user name and
password you have do not work, than unfortunately you'll have to call your service provider to help you
with that. For Verizon, the number to call is: 1-800-922-0204. It's best if you do not call them from your
blackberry. Now what you want to make sure is that you have all your email passwords etc. Now from
here, you can either have your service provider send to your phone the Service Books, or you can just get
the info for the website I gave so that you can log onto it and send the Service Books to your blackberry
on your own. If you have your service provider help you, this is where you'll need your email passwords,
because before you send the Service Books to your blackberry you'll need to revalidate all your emails
accounts by clicking on the red symbol on the left, and it will ask for your passwords and take care of all
the rest. Once you have all your email accounts re-validated, then you can send the Service books to your
blackberry. You'll see the link on the left upper menu of the page that says Service Books, click on it and
wahlah.  Now give it about 15 seconds or so. go to your black berry. Turn it off, and back on again.
Now turn your blackberry off and on again. When it comes back on follow all the menu promptings etc.,
and bingo you got your address book back.

    Welcme to the Frums!
Sometimes when the address books disappear, a filter has gotten turned on.
Go to address book>> menu >>> filters >>> and make sure nothing is checked in either box.

  • Calling Outlook 98's address book

How can I call Outlook 98's address book from developer 6.0?
Through API (any of this)? Or I need to make connection to the

Contacts syncing is bidirectional, you can sync your phone with your work PC and put the contacts on the phone then you can sync it with your iMac and transfer your contacts to your Address book, just make sure you create at least a contact in your iMac so that the info merges

  • Problems with autofill when editing address book entries

When i try to change eg miller to Miller, anna to Anna etc
    1) the initial letter remains lower case and
    2) even worse, another iller/nna is added on to the end - milleriller, annanna etc.
I've tried deleting the whole name and starting again - no joy. Is something going wrong with Autofill? Are there any preference files i should try trashing?
NB this problem only occurs with names which appear more than once in the address book.

    Hi,
i was having this problem, specifically it kept offering me the word I wanted except all in capitals, which I didn't want. Turned out the cause was that the word was actually used in all capitals elsewhere in my Address Book. Once I hunted down all occurrences of this word in capitals and changed them to my preferred format the autocomplete stopped offering the all-capitalised version. Perhaps this approach will help for you.

  • CUCIMOC Caller-ID from Outlook Address Book

Does anyone know if it is possible to get CUCIMOC to look up the Outlook Address book of a user so that when an incoming call comes through you can see the callers name on the screen pop ?
I have looked for some information on this but I am as yet unsuccessful at getting it working.
If someone has an idea please let me know.

  • "send/call" key shortcut to address book missing in 4.5?

i know this may sound nitpicky but in 4.3 i loved this feature where you just press and hold the green call/send button and go to address book. after updating to 4.5 it is not there.    now, i know i can assign the convenience keys, show shortcut on home screen, and such to go to it but ive got all that just how i like it. i know you can hit a letter and takes you to the corresponding letter in address book also. when they removed it did they make any other "1 press" access to FULL address book? forgive the nitpickiness....haha

Thanks to both j.v. and Barney for your suggestions. I used a combination of your two ideas to almost solve this problem. The two computers are both connected to the same wireless network. From the MBP, I logged onto the PB using its ID/password. This gave me access to all files on that machine from the MBP. Importing the backup file Barney suggested earlier did not work - the Group names came over, but not the address cards! In fact, I couldn't delete the Groups within the application. I had to go eliminate the files in Library/Applications/Address Books folder to eliminate them.
In the PB, I then made Vcards as suggested for each Group as suggested by j.v. Since I was logged onto the PB via the MBP, I could see all these files. I thought I was home free when I imported the first Group's address cards, created a new Group with the same name, and dragged all these cards into the Group. For the subsequent groups, I had hoped to use the Last Import list, creating new group names for each group that I imported. HOWEVER, for some reason, Last Import contains all the cards imported, not just the last group! Any ideas as to how to overcome this problem? Is there a single file that I can delete to clear out Last Import?
    Thanks again for any ideas.

    How do I do this?
-1. Uninstalling any third-party plug-ins or enhancements for the application that's quitting unexpectedly. When you update an application or Mac OS X, a plug-in or enhancement you previously installed may not be compatible any longer.
Checked to updates for Address Book software – none, however there was an update for OSX to 10.4.8 - should I do this?.
Disconnected all other devices (should I have to do this?? Printer? Speakers?)

Running Apple Hardware Test, on a disc that came with your computer. If you just installed hardware, such as additional memory, Apple Hardware Test can tell you if it's defective. If you can't find Apple Hardware Test, take your computer to an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • ICal to alert me to call a contact from Address Book?

I currently use Entourage's address book as a contact manager and want to switch to Mac Address Book and iCal to track my clients. I can't figure out how to have a specific Address Book client alert me to call back on a specific date I specify.
For instance, in Entourage, I use it's address book function and set a "To Do Date" for it to remind me to call this client. I was told on the Address Book forum it's not possible unless iCal can do it. How is this done in iCal (other than having to set a new event in meeting-like iCal which would be a real pain)? I have to be reminded of 10 to 30 call-backs each day.
If this doesn't work, what's my options? If I stay with Entourage I have to deal with syncing to my iPhone via the archaic and entirely reliable Entourage to iCal via Sync Services, and then to my iPhone. I do end up with duplicates calendar entries on occasions.
    B. Other software or ideas?

    Hi Mike,
I agree with Austin. Applescript will help with this. I've taken a different tack with it though and I'd suggest using Address Book's plug-in structure.
Copy the script below into Script Editor and make changes to the lines starting "property". You'll need to save this script in your User's Library > Address Book Plug-Ins folder (you may need to make this folder) or it won't work.
Now when you click on the label of a phone number in Address Book there will be a contextual menu item to "Call <name> later". This will ask you for a date and to add more notes, then it will make a Todo in the calendar you set in the script.
    -- Call Later -- John Maisey -- www.nhoj.co.uk -- 1 May 2009
    -- -- Address Book plug-in
    -- -- Save as CallLater.scpt and add to folder "~/Library/Address Book plug-ins"
property myCalendar : "Home" -- Calendar to add todo to.

  • Error ABACQUIRE_FILE_LOC when opening Address Book

When I launch Address Book, it immediately closes and the control console reflects the above error. Any suggestions on how to fix? I am running latest version of OS X.

Did you do any upgrade before the problem arised?
Is it used in Sync scripts or Backup?
Have you run Disk Utility to repair permissions?

  • Error message when syncing Address book

Help, I just recently had my BB8100 replaced due to a trackball failure ever since then when I try and sync with Outlook it works fine until I get to the address book then it stops syncing and gives me an error message 0x800040fb3.  I have searched everywhere and cannot find what this means.  Anyone have any ideas?

Please confirm that the below steps are being follwoed to configure synchronization -
Connect your device using Desktop Manager and click on Synchronization
From the menu on the left click Synchronization under Configuration
Again click Synchronization button on the right which will give you option to Select Device Application that you want to synchronize
Put the check mark and you'll get a prompt to Select Desktop Application
Highlight the application name and click next button
Under Synchronization Option you get Direction of Synchronization
Check the radio button with Two way sync
Note: above mentioned steps are explained as per Desltop Manager 4.5
    Example: Synchronize addressbook -
Connect you HH with your desktop Manager in your PC. If you device is set to wireless sync then you need to turn off wireless synchronization. To do so go to Address Book -> click Menu -> Options -> Wireless Synchronization: No -> click Menu and Save the changes.
Click on the Synchronize button on Desktop Manager -> Click on Configuration Tab then click on Configure Synchronization -> Click on Choose under Address Book (on the right side of the pop up window) -> Click on you organizer apps (like, MS outlook, Lotus notes etc) -> Select desired apps -> select Synchronization radio button and click OK twice go back to Synchronize tab ->click on Synchronize Now.

  • Wrong answers given when searching address book

Some times when I search my address book for a key word (e.g. king), the cards that are returned in the answer column a) do not have the word or four letters of king highlighted anywhere in them AND b) most do not have the word or phrase of king anywhere in them. That is, too many cards are returned as answers to the search for king and therefore the search function in Address book is not working correctly and it is VERY frustrating. To fix the problem I tried to clean the caches and I repaired permissions and did a disrepair, and I also did a spotlight index rebuild but nothing has fixed this problem. Please help! I'm using Address book 4.1.1 (699) and OS X 10.5.6.

If you are able to fix the searching problem by editing a card and then searching for it, then it sounds like your database is missing some details. I have a possible solution for you but it is risky and you need to back up your AddressBook folder (or export an Address Book Archive from the File menu).
1 - Quit all apps except Finder
    2 - Using Finder, go to (home folder)/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
3 - Drag your AddressBook-v22.abcddb file to the trash
    4 - Launch Address Book
What this does is rebuild your Address Book database from the files in the Metadata folder. That should write out the database in a way that includes all of the information required for searching.

  • Cannot dial call using Skype from Address Book in Lion

I used to be able to place a call using Skype by clicking and holding a telephone number in Address Book and releasing it on the option " Call with Skype".
Now, although the options still appears, it does not work.
    Can anyone help?
There used to be an issue with 32 bit in Snow Leopard, and you could work around by compelling Addrees Book to open in 32 bit, but this seems to work no longer.

  • Hi - I can't seem to get a full list of my groups when clicking "address book" to manage and alphabetize

I have lists I can send to but can't find to manage when someone wants to get off the list. As a substitue I can find some of the lists when I'm writing a message and hiiting "properties", but they're not in alphabetical order and not all are there. Thank you

    Open 'Address Book'
'''To remove a name from mailing list but keep in associated address book:'''
The Mailing List will be a sub list to an address book.
In the left Directory Pane select the mailing list name
A list of mailing contacts is shown in the right 'Contact Pane'
To sort by Name, click on the 'Name' column header, click again to reverse the order.
OR if rather lengthy list, use the search - type in Name.
'''To remove contact completely from address book and any sub mailing lists:'''
Please note that any name/contact must be in the address book in order to be placed in a mailing list of that address book.
If you remove them from the address book, then they are removed from any mailing list associated with the address book.

  • IPhone dropping calls even when it had bars

My I phone4 is constantly hanging up or dropping calls in the middle of a conversation. Is there a way to fix this issue?

Well, for some reason I have trouble on rare occasions with one particular person I talk to. What makes it even weirder, it happens with both their landline and his cell phone which he says are on different networks (T-Mobile and Verizon, I think). When it acts up, I can lose the call several times in just a few minutes.
I took my phone into the apple store to have them check. They said it didn't show any dropped calls which, they said, meant it had to be a problem with the other network.
That may be true, but it could also be an excuse. I've yet to have this happen when talking to anyone else though.
Another possibility is that you have the proximity sensor problem. Since I saw you only posted once, you may not be familiar with it but, in short, the screen can come on, even when against your ear and if the screen is on, your cheek can activate buttons, including the one to end the call! You could also get muting, speaker phone, even calling someone else!
There are tons of discussions about it here and arguments over what the cause is (one thread is 90 pages long and it was a continuation of two previous very long threads!).
Check what version of the operating system you have. The original was 4.0. The next update (4.0.1) basically just changed the signal bar calculations with the result that they are more accurate, but will give fewer bars for the same signal on 4.0.
Next came 4.1 which did something to change the sensor issue. It worked for some, not for others, and some said it made it worse! But, in general, it seemed to increase the power to the sensor and I'd say helped more people than it hurt.
The latest version (4.2.1) didn't say anything about changes in sensor operation, but I know from my tests they definitely changed something.
As before, some say it got worse or didn't change - but I've only seen a handful who said that so it may be nothing more than the amount of problems that seem to happen with any update going out to millions of people. A larger number have said it finally fixed theirs.
Those are the two main things I'd look for - a problem that only happens with certain calls, especially if on a particular network. And the possible proximity sensor problem.
One thing you can do to check the sensor is to go to your settings and turn the screen brightness to max (probably turning off the automatic option). I found that when the screen came on, I could miss it at the usual setting, but on bright, it got my attention. This also depends on how you hold it. If against your cheek, it may not make any difference since you'd be covering the screen up.
There is a app for 99 cents called "Call Guard". After starting a call, you run the app and it gives a blank screen so you can't activate any buttons. You can still hang up by pressing the top button or by pressing the home button to quit the app and then going back to the phone app to hang up.
But one really nice thing about the app is that when active, it marks and numbers every time your face touches the screen (if the screen ever comes on). So you could use this for awhile and check after each call to see if there were any touches. If not, the problem probably isn't the sensor.
