Unknown caller id

hi i know this has been posted before but none of the responses seem to help me. i have recently got the iphone and every time someone calls me that is on my contacts list it comes up as unknown caller. i have tried resetting the phone, i have checked that their phone is not on call id block, i have added +61 before the number and still it comes up as unknown. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.
i am thru the optus network in australia

I'm not sure about carriers in Australia but when I first got my iPhone in Canada with an "iphone plan", it didn't come with caller ID at all. I had to pay extra in order the activate that feature. I have since switched to another plan but it seems some carriers do not provide caller ID automatically, may be the case with Optus in australia as well.

  • Is there a way to find out the number of an "unknown caller" somehow?

Recieved call from unknown caller and want to know their number...is there a way? i.e. an app or anything?

If the number is not available from your phone, no. Forget it and carry on.

  • Using *77 to set 'anonymous' or 'unknown' call blocking is not working

Per instructions from Verizon, I used *77 to turn on anonymous call blocking last night. I dialed *77, and got a voice telling me that I have enabled anonymous call blocking.
However, it's NOT working. When I call home from my office, it shows up in caller ID as "unavailable"; shouldn't a call that is identified as 'unavailable' be blocked with this service?  Does anyone understand why this would be the case? Are all 'unavailable calls' the same?

Unavavailable/unknown calls and anonymous/private calls are two different things. Anonymous calls are calls from someone who has chosen to block their telephone number from being displayed on your caller ID screen. This means the caller has dialed *67 before dialing your phone number (or they have what is called line blocking where all their outgoing caller id info is automatically blocked without them having to dial *67 before every call).  *77 is used to block anonymous/private calls and force the caller to allow their caller id info to come through to your phone in order for the call to complete.
Unavailable/unknown calls are calls in which no caller id information has been sent. These are generally from collection agencies or telemarketers.  *77 will not block these calls in any way. The only services which will block or screen these calls are Call Intercept or Do Not Disturb.

  • "Unknown Caller " issue

I have synced my iPhone with the Outlook. Sometimes, when I receive a call the name of the caller is not displayed, rather "Unknown Caller" gets displayed on the iPhone, while the number is already there in the iPhone's contacts list.

Probably means the caller is withholding their details - whether or not they know they are. They may be ringing from work and the employer's phone system is set up this way. This will apparently override the fact that you have them in your contacts.

  • Want External Phone Number Mask to say "Unknown Caller" Is this Possible?

When a user dials an external # is it possible to have it show on Caller ID as "Unknown Caller"?
I have deleted the # that is currently in the External Phone Number Mask, and left it blank, but the Coporate# now shows when he dials out.
This is something that only needs to be setup for 1 user, not the entire company.

There will always be some number/name displayed. If you do not put in a number in the outside mask, the number/name associated with the smart trunk will be displayed.
You might talk to your local phone company and see if they can restrict the numbers or a single phone number. If they can do that on even one number, you can put it into the mask for all of your phones.
Two other problems you might have with this. One, a lot of people (I do) block calls from phones that do not display a phone numbers.
Another problem you are going to run into is when someone calls "911" by accident. The Police/fire will try to call back to the number for the smart trunk. And since most often is not on a phone. They will send cars or trucks to the address listed for those smart trunks. Usually the billing address for your company.

  • Need to delete local references in unknown calling context

    Hi,
I was looking for the need to delete local references and came across this documentation,
What does unknown caller context mean? and how does it cause local references to remain allocated in reference table although the native function returns?
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jni/html/refs.html
    5.2.1 Freeing Local References
You want to write a utility function that is called from unknown contexts. The MyNewString example shown in Section 4.3 illustrates the use of Delete-LocalRef to delete promptly local references in a utility function. Otherwise there will be two local references that remains allocated after each call to the MyNewString function.

how does it cause local references to remain allocated in reference table although the native function returns?Because it doesn't return to the JVM where it gets deallocated, it returns to the unknown caller context, i.e. some other piece of native code in your JNI layer. So the references remain until the unknown caller context returns to the JVM.

  • Block unknown caller

I'm getting obnoxious calls from an "unknown caller" - I want to:
    1. Block ALL "unknown" callers or
    2. Assign a silent ring tone to all unknown caller
How can I do this? Surely, there must be a way.

You may also setup usage control for $4.99 month.  This will allow you to block restricted calls. For more info on Usage controls, click here https://wbillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/nos/uc/uc_home.jsp

  • Unknown caller, no ID

On my new Verizon iPhone, if I miss a call from a caller who is not in my contacts, there is no caller ID number displayed in the log; "Unknown Caller" is all that is displayed. My previous Verizon phones showed the originating number, so I expect the iPhone should also. Is there a setting that I can make?
    Thanks for any advice.

to be honest these are the solutions that may or may not work..
first thing I would try is rebooting the phone by holding the sleep/wake button and home button for 15 seconds until you see the white apple logo
if that doesn't work I would restore from backup and if that doesn't work I would restore as new if all else fails take it to your closest apple store they may replace the phone for a working one..
Did you even read the OP's question? Its probably just a random carrier issue, these things happen once in awhile. If it continues to happen and it bothers you that much call Verizon.

  • Garmin Nuvi 765T Bluetooth Phantom Unknown Caller Issue...

I recently got a new Nuvi and synced it with my Storm. It worked great until I did some voice dialing via the Nuvi interface. Now, every time the 2 pieces sync up with one another over bluetooth, I see a phantom incoming call from "unknown caller"...it doesn't matter whether I push accept or ignore, the Garmin accepts the call and treats it like a real call, preventing me from placing any out-bound calls through the Garmin unit. I'm asking here because the Garmin folks knew nothing about the issue. I'm thinking it may have something to do with blackberry/Garmin interaction? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

i have exactly the same problem with the nokia 5800 & the garmin 765t.  One of the reasons i chose this unit was for the handsfree capability.   Surely the latest nokia xpressmusic should be compatible - according to Garmin the xpressmusic 5610 is.  Like BuNka i can accept calls via the unit, but not make them - i get a message on the phone when i dial out on the 765t but it quickly disappears and the call isn't made, though just once it did actually make a call, but i can't get it to repeat that. I have tried pairing both ways, i.e. phone to satnav, and satnav to phone - makes no difference, and also, when the satnav is paired it changes the default handsfree on the phone to  bt handsfree device (?). To get it back to normal i have to unpair the devices.  I have the latest firmware/software on both devices.
Another problem is that when the units are paired, the first incoming call i get rings on the satnav & the phone. But for subsequent incoming calls the phone doesn't ring or vibrate even though these are set on, and the satnav makes no sound either. The incoming call is shown on both units, but there is no alert tone.  I missed several calls before i realised this was happening. To get the phone to work properly i have to unpair the 765t on thre phone then switch the phone off and on again.  This is really **bleep**!!!!!!!!!!!!  I have emailed garmin but they aren't much help - they just say the phone isn't in their compatible list.. which it isn't.. but it SHOULD be!!  I guess the message is if you have a nokia 5800 dont expect handsfree from the Garmin 765t....

  • How can I make my number show up as an "unknown caller"?

I have an HTC Rezound and  I would like to have my number show up to other callers as an "unknown" caller.  How can I do this from my phone?

I can think of SEVERAL reasons, with not wanting to give out your cell # as the top one on the list.
For example if you are using your personal phone for business, you would not necessarily want people calling you for business reasons at all hours of the night. Once your number gets out, it is hard to put the genie back in the bottle.
I have several coworkers that would prefer not letting their personal numbers get out to half of the people they contact through their jobs.

  • How do I block anonymous or unknown calls on the I phone 5 and 6?

How do I block anonymous or unknown calls on the I phone 5 and 6?

Thank you for messaging us, mandmc. Being able to customize and block unwanted callers is important. In order to be able to block unknown numbers, there is a service feature that we offer through Family Base that allows you to block all unknown callers: http://vz.to/1sSnjqp
You can also search for apps that can help with this, but be sure to check reviews to make sure they do work correctly.

  • Unknown Caller ID from a Contact in my Address Book

Hello. My girlfriend has an iPhone 4 on AT&T and I have a Verizon iPhone 5. When she calls her Caller ID information appears but when she leaves a voicemail is it listed as Unknown Caller. I have been having this problem since I had the iphone 4. i tried Network Reset and deleting her information and adding it in.  Has anyone else experience this issue and if so, how can it be resolved. Many Thanks.

Comtact your carrier and/or have her contact hers. This is not a phone problem, it's a carrier problem.
