UNKNOWN caller in Visual Voicemail

Going on 6 days now with any call I receive that goes to Voicemail. It shows up as "UNKNOWN" when viewed in Visual Voicemail.
I'm certain these are not "Blocked" calls/callers - most part are in my address book as long established contacts.
You see caller ID as it rings, listed in "Recent Calls" but something gets lost when it is in Voicemail. Anyone seeing this as well?

Wow, I'm not nuts. I've had this same problem in the Chicago area since about Thursday of last week. I've been through a couple of voice mail resets with AT&T, but not the complete one where I have to even do a new greeting and loss of all messages. I've already recorded all of the messages. Has this voice mail scorched earth reset done the trick now that you've had a day to test it?
I've replaced the Sim card and was on the verge of getting a new IPhone from the apple store, but I wouldn't mind saving the trip to Woodfield and the time to re-setup the phone.

  • WiFi Calling and Visual Voicemail (VVM) Windows Phone (or Windows 10 Mobile)

We are planning to change our business network for company mobiles from Vodafone, we all have SIM-Free/Unlocked Windows Phone devices (Lumia 930, Lumia 735 and etc...) all with latest updates which is currently Windows Phone Update 1 except for 735 which is on Update 2 now I believe. Only EE offers true seamless WiFi calling and is advertised for Lumia 640 which is because of the Windows Phone Update 2 we believe. Based on this information I have 3 questions:What are the requirements for WiFi Calling on Windows Phone (Windows 10 Mobile) devices? We are also interested in Visual Voicemail (VVM) which latest Windows Phone supports however EE only appears to mention iPhones and no other device, number of questions have been answered with no current support however surly if they can do iPhone they can also do Windows Phone therefore wanting to know if anyone has any further information on this? Will any of the above require EE's own firmware or will the SIM-Free/Unlocked version work with it? (Reason for asking is that O2's Visual Voicemail only works with their own version of the firmware)As much input on this matter would be much appreciated because as we're going to stay with Windows devices long term now and switch all other iPhones to them also, feel free to include more technical info if necessary

    Hi
    Welcome to the Community!
At the moment Wi-Fi Calling is only available on the Lumia 640 out of the Windows devices. WiFi Calling will not be available on any other existing devices, but as we launch new devices we will confirm if they support this service.
Wi-Fi Calling is also only available on devices purchased direct from EE with the exception of the iPhone. An iPhone would just need to have Carrier 19.1 or above.
As for Visual Voicemail it is only available on iPhones. I'm doing some digging to find out if it is something that will be launched on other devices in the near future. I will let you know as soon as I get any information.
Also you mentioned you would be a business customer. Wi-Fi Calling is only currently available to Personal and Small Business customers.
    Hope this covers everything.
    Thanks.

  • Basic Visual Voicemail -- does it exist, and how do i use it?

I've learned from this verizon page ( Voice Mail Comparisons | Verizon Wireless ) that there is an included service called 'basic visual voicemail', and according to posts here and elsewhere it is supported on at least some Galaxy S3/4/5 series devices. This is not iphone service, because that service is listed seperately. The 'basic visual voicemail' service is not mentioned anywhere in verizon's ad literature or anywhere in the account information website, and any attempt to add visual voicemail service (online) or access visual voicemail (phone) only triggers the advertisement for the 'premium visual voicemail', which includes additional features beyond visual voicemail. This makes the feature seem 'secret', or maybe it used to be offered and is not availible to new customers.
So the first question, does basic (no additional cost) visual voicemail actually exist? Second, what do I need to do to get it working on my Galaxy S4? Based on other posts, it seems the answer that it may need to be specifically added by a verizon rep, and even then it may be necessary to do an 'unofficial' install of a different software version of the voicemail app than what is availible via the software updates... but I would like to confirm this is legit before I do something that dodgy.

I've used all three - and I prefer You Mail.  You Mail and Verizon's (Premium) VVM are very similar, and You Mail is free.  Both have an app that opens when you hit the notification icon so you can "see" your messages, and click to listen.  Google Voice sends me an email with the transcription, and I can click in the email to listen to the message.  All of them require data to download and listen to the voicemail, but it's, what I consider, minimal.  The translation leaves a bit to be desired, but that's as much a function of the speaker as the translation engine - I can usually get the gist of the message from the transcript, most times I don't need to even listen to the message.
The downside to using You Mail and Google Voicemail is that you need to set up call forwarding to your YM or GVM # - so if you need to set up actual call forwarding for another purpose, you lose the voicemail forwarding.  The Premium VVM worked well for the month I used it (trial has ended), and I have yet to set up either You Mail or Google Voicemail again; I'm using the Basic VVM.  I've yet to receive a voicemail so I haven't tested it!

  • Why doesn't visual voicemail work after upgrading to ios 7?

After upgrading to iOS 7, visual voicemail on my iPhone 5 (Verizon) is no longer available. When I select voicemail, instead of showing the list of saved and new voicemail messages, it dials the voicemail number and I have to enter my password to retreive messages. I tried resetting my phone, re-entering my voicemail password, changing my voicemail password (both on the phone and on Verizon's website), leaving myself a voicemail message...nothing seems to work.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 4 and german T-Mobile. After updating to iOS 7 my mailbox does not work for callers, just tells them I did not answer the call, and visual voicemail on my phone is not working and just calls the standard voicemail.
I tried to set a new password for visual voicemail in the phone settings (as supposed to do in some forums), but this just hangs after entering the new pin twice.
I changed the settings in the mailbox menu, so callers can record a message on my mailbox again, but visual voicemail still is not reactivated.

  • How to make VM button call Voicemail (not Visual Voicemail) - T-Mobile

I have an iPhone 5 on T-Mobile, and the VM button takes me to non-functional visual voicemail. My wife has iPhone 5 too, also on T-Mobile, but her voicemail button calls her voicemail. How can I make my phone do that? (Because Visual Voicemail doesn't work)

What that button does is determined by the carrier file on your phone, there is no setting for you to change such. T-Mobile has enough iPhones on their network that I'm sure they have a way to deal with this. Have you gone to a T-Mobile store? If not, try doing so.

  • Iphone 5 and 5s visual voicemail and call forwarding problems in UK

    Hi
I am in the UK on a monthly pay 4G package with O2 with my iphone 5S.
Every two or three days, visual voicemail switches off saying there is an error with visual voicemail. When this happens, voicemails are left for me, but the caller does not hear my personalised OGM and I have to call in to listen to voicemails - and I get no notification of new voicemails. If I power down my iphone and switch it back on, visual voicemail is restored. But then a day or two later, it all happens again
Another thing I have noticed, is that when I switch my iphone back on after having powered it down, the call forward icon appears on the phone, even though I have not set call forwarding. To celar this I go into settings - phone - call forwarding. this shows that call forwardins is indeed off, and as soon as i reach that screen in settings, the call forwarding icon goes away - and so does my 4G connection. I then have 3G connection for a while and then magically 4G returns after several minutes.
Thsi is all comepletely repeatable - happens every time
Yesterday I noticed that exactly the same things are happening on my wife's iphone 5 - and she is on an EE package
We are both on IOS 7.1
    What is going on?

Immediately after going through the carry-on x-ray scanner at Newark airport, my 5S touch screen screen became unresponsive. I could not tap icons. I could not swipe pages. I could not turn off the phone because I could not swipe the confirmation message. I could use the fingerprint sensor to ask Siri to Google for help, and Safari did open with a list of Google search results. Surprisingly, I could use the touchscreen to scroll up and down the list of search results, but it would not respond to any taps, so I could not open any of the links. I finally did a hard reset and when the phone did come back on, all was well. This is the second time that this has happened immediately after x-ray, and these two times were the only times that this has happened, despite many trips.
Then there was something else unique about those two times that affected the device, either environmental or circumstantial.

  • IPhone 4 - 4.2 upgrade killed visual voicemail

*iPhone 4 - 4.2 upgrade killed visual voicemail*
Ok, I upgraded to 4.2 and deleted all previous backups, so I know I'm screwed untill the next update.
I've synced, backed up, restored from backup and still no "Visual Voicemail".
My voicemail only works if I restore the phone to original settings. But if I do that, I loose important data in my apps. As soon as I "Restore From Backup" I loose my "Visual Voicemail".
If I reset my voicemail password with AT&T, I get the screen to set up a new password and greeting in Visual Voicemail. When I go through these steps I get the spinning wheel "Saving".
It never saves, and I get an alert that says it can't connect to voicemail.
I can set up voicemail by dialing "1", but then all I see is a blank screen in my "Visual Voicemail".
I've also tried a full reset of my voicemail with AT&T.
I even got a new SIM card. That didn't work.
Can anybody figure this one out???
    -Thanks

Well, thats the first time I've been told that after a week of phone calls. Maybe it's possible.
I forgot to backup my phone before I upgraded to 4.2. Oops!
When I noticed my Visual Voicemail was gone I tried to backup but ran out of memory.
So I deleted previous backups to make more room. It backed up fine after that.
I don't think it ran out of memory during the update, but maybe it did.
    Crap!

  • My iPhone 5s has no visual voicemail or regular voicemail and data usage is off the charts....

Okay so problem number 1 with my new iPhone 5s is data usage has spiked tremendously. I don't know why this is as for the last 2 years I have had an iPhone 4 and barely ever used 1GB a month. Now with my 2GB allowance I reached 90% used midway through the month. I have turned off the LTE and now have turned off cellular data completely and am only using wifi. I don't understand why my data usage has been so high this month since I am using my phone the same way. Is it the LTE?
My second problem is my phone has no voicemail. It tells me visual voicemail is unavailable and to call my voicemail. Except when I call my voicemail it asks me for a password. I have had my phone number for over 5 years and never had a password and now I can't get into my voicemail. I tried resetting the Network settings, that did not work. I have left my self voicemails and no notification even shows up. I called *86 to create a voicemail and it asks for a password which I never made.
I am EXTREMELY angry with Verizon's service at this point. I can not use my data until next month, and now I can't even receive voicemail messages. If someone could please tell me what is going on I would be appreciative.

To answer your first question, the answer is yes, it is the LTE. Your iPhone 4 could only connect to 3G and so therefore unable to transfer data as quickly as 4G on the 5s. So then you end up using more data than you have before.
And your second question. I am not sure as to why it's asking for a password if it never was before. You can reset your voicemail password if you log into your MyVerizon account. Hope that helps

  • IPhone 4: No 3G, edge or visual voicemail

    Hi,
My iPhone 4 has no 3G, edge or visual voicemail. I can only get on the internet using my wifi.
    I've tried:
    resetting network settings
    latest ios updates
creating a backup, then deleting file '8218978e4ab0a48035bb92653145a6be872ea858' from the backup folder and restoring (as suggested in a macrumors forum)
The internet tethering is constantly searching and never stops which I believe may be decreasing battery life.
This is my second iPhone 4, my previous one had the same problem and was subsequently replaced by O2.
I can only presume it could be my sim, but is that likely?
I've read other people have had these issues, but not all simultaneously.
Am I alone here, is there a fix????
Thanks for any help in advance

Went to Apple Store for help with this problem. They tested with one of their SIM cards and there was no problem with the network. Therefore, I was told this is a problem for AT&T to resolve having to do with activation. Called AT&T. Turns out that when my phone was activated, they cut off my data plan entirely instead of continuing it. After some discussion with AT&T support, they gave me back my data plan. I re-booted the phone, and everything is fine. I am happy. Everything is working on my new phone. Hope I love it now.

  • IPhone 4: Visual Voicemail asks to be 'set up now' after each reboot

    Hello everyone,
    Here is my recurring problem:
Every time I turn my iPhone 4 off and back on, the visual voicemail asks to be set up again (when I've done it over 10 times now!). I tried resetting the network settings, taking out the SIM, and even called my phone company. They said that the issue is from Apple and has nothing to do with cell phone reception or what not... They said they have gotten a lot of calls with this issue?
I am not sure if anyone else is having this problem...?
How do I fix this so I don't need to reset my voicemail everytime I reboot?!?!
    Thank you in advance.

    The fix:
Okay, I spoke with Apple Customer Support, and this is the detailed fix for the constant visual voicemail re-set after rebooting the iPhone (4). A warning though, it's going to use up a lot of your time!
    1. Make sure that you've synched your iPhone, and have a computer back up (which includes all of your contacts, apps, email, photos, etc. - EVERYTHING.
    2. Reset your iPhone 4 back to the factory default (this erases EVERYTHING from your iPhone). This is the "Restore" option found on the "Summary" tab in iTunes when your iPhone 4 is selected.
    3. After step 2 is complete, when you are given the option to restore the iPhone either from a back-up, or start as a new iPhone, choose the new iPhone option (it's possible that your back-up has a "corruption" which lead to this problem).
    4. Re-synch, and re-add all of your apps, movies, books, and photos, etc. You will have to redo any folders that you may have made (pain!).
    5. You may have to update the phone's carrier settings (remember when you first got the phone?), by pressing a prompt on the phone if it tells you that a carrier update is available (download the update). The phone will also prompt you with the fact that it's now registered (with your carrier). This only takes a second (the shortest part of the whole process). Your visual voice mail should work. Your greeting may be set to "default", but if you choose "custom", your greeting should be there (push "play" to make sure). If not, then record a new one. My greeting was still there, and I didn't have to re-enter my password. All of my old messages were still there, too. Success!
    6. You'll have to re-enter your wi-fi password in order to re-enable wi-fi.
    7. You're done. It works. I've tested it, by restarting (re-booting) the iPhone 4 several times.
    8. Go to bed, because it's late!
    You're welcome!
    -Mark.

  • Visual Voicemail not working on iPhone 4, iOS 7.0.2

Before I get into the specifics, I want to say YES, I already called AT&T about this. Their Tier 2 support guy couldn't resolve it so it's been elevated to a support ticket and I'm waiting for a reply. I'd just like to know if there's anything I can try on my end, or if there's any telltale sign of a defective unit.
    The phone: iPhone 4, 8GB, AT&T. 2 years old, off-contract. Unlocked. iOS 7.0.2
We just got back from a European trip and the visual voicemail on my wife's iPhone 4 is not working. Before we left, I unlocked it via iTunes and updated to iOS 7. I didn't want to upate the OS but iTunes was not giving me a choice, despite trying the various options to keep it on iOS 6 (believe me, I tried). Anyway, in Sweden I bought prepay SIM cards for our phones and used those on the whole trip, swapping the ATT sims back in once we got home. We both had issues with our voicemail after that, with repeated prompts for our password and having to go to AT&T to reset it and all that bizness. My 4S is working fine now, her 4 is not.
She knew she had at least 3 voicemails while we were gone but they were not showing up. Last night I checked for a carrier update, then set the iPhone to update to 7.0.2 while we slept; woke up to find the update had FAILED and the iPhone seemed bricked. After updating iTunes and repairing permissions, finally got the phone back up and updated, with a long restore from backup with apps and music. Still no new voicemails. I 'Reset Network Settings' to no avail, after working through all the steps in the Apple Knowledgebase article. So I called AT&T. The first tech did several things (on/off. more Network Settings resets) and the old voicemails did show up -- but no NEW ones would pop up when she made test calls. The tier 2 guy did some resets on their end, still no joy on showing new voicemails. As a last-ditch effort, he reset the entire voicemail account for that phone. Now visual voicemail is completely GONE. Pressing the button just calls voicemail and prompts you for the password. New voicemails are in the system, but there's no prompt on the phone that you even have one, you have to call.
SO... anyone else have this issue? The AT&T guy seemed to be at the end of his rope and had nothing left to try on his end. He thought it was a hardware issue, though everything was working fine before I a) upgraded to 7 and b) swapped SIM cards. Is there ANYTHING ELSE I can try on my end to see if its an issue with the iPhone versus an AT&T problem?
    TIA,
    JVK

Generally, when going out of the country and using a foreign SIM, carrier files can be changed. Go to Settings>General>About>and look at Carrier? What does it say? You may have to perform a restore. You can try a restore from a backup, that would reinstall the iOS, and would provide the latest AT&T carrier file as well. See if this will fix the problem.

  • Iphone 3gs Upgrade to 4.2.1 deletes visual voicemail

I unfortunately have just upgraded my iphone 3GS to 4.2.1 and found that my visual voice mail is no longer a feature. When I go to the phone menu screen, the favorites, recents, contacts and keypad still work. When I touch the voicemail icon, it immediately calls my voicemail each time. It does not go to the visual voicemail screen, but instead shows the keypad and is calling my voicemail number. It won't even let me see my saved visual voicemails. This is a pretty big weekend to be out of touch. Is anyone else having this problem? Thank you for any feedback.

I upgraded my 3G to 4.2.1 last night and tried to set individual alert tones for SMS. Well, as everyone here probably knows, that was false advertising by Apple.
I saw the thread here, though, about visual voicemail and checked mine. Sure enough, no go. When I clicked the bottom-right icon for voicemail, it just dialed. I didn't need a PIN, though, it hooked me straight up. I hung up and called voicemail a couple of more times, switched to the contact list and back to voicemail and eventually I got the on-screen prompt for the PIN. I filled that in (and it was maybe a bit lucky I remembered it) and all was well again ... with the voicemail. Saved messages were present.

  • BUG: Verizon iPhone Visual Voicemail Not Working with Ported Number

I ported my number from ATT to Verizon with the new iPhone 5.
Visual Voicemail keeps asking me to set it up with a password. Then it says unauthorized. I spent an hour on the phone with Verizon support. They said I had to wipe my phone and set it up as a new phone.
I backed up, set up as new, went to Voicemail. It called my voicemail. I set up the account, and left a test voicemail. Visual Voicemail worked.
Then I restored back to my iPhone backup, getting all my data, apps, and contacts back, and the Visual Voicemail doesn't think it is setup anymore.
What gives??? Is this an Apple or Verizon issue? It works on a "new" setup phone, not a restored one???

I found that this was an issue (when I setup my iPhone 5) was solved when I went in and reset the network settings.
It seems that somehow the provider network settings weren't quite right:
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings
After resetting the network settings, everything just worked again.
Perhaps the same thing can correct the issue for you as well. (worth a shot)
