Unknown computer appears in iCloud drive setup

While upgrading to both Yosemite and iOS8, an unknown iMac has appeared in the list of devices that currently have access to my documents in iCloud. How do I get rid of this device?

I have just been on to Apple Support with the same problem.  In my case the problem appears to have been that virus software was enabled.  I booted in safe mode (shift and switch on and hold down the shift for a while), then signed out of iCloud (without losing documents on the Cloud), restarted and then the iCloud setup completed.  I have now disabled the anti-virus (it was Avast).  Apple Support was emphatic that anti-virus was not necessary on a Mac!!  Really?  I hope so.

  • How can I change the hard drive location of the iCloud Drive?

I am using a SSD for my boot drive, but it's space is limited.
So I would like to relocate the iCloud Drive to one of my internal HDs, but I see no option to do this.
Let's hope Apple would make such an obvious option available.
I don't want to change the location of my entire Home directory, as that would slow down my access to cache files, etc...
I had one suggestion of using the terminal with an "ln -s" command to create a soft link.  However, it appears the iCloud Drive is store in ~/Library/Mobile Documents.  If I remove this directory or any subdirectory, they are automatically recreated, I assume by some sort of background process.
Does anybody know if this is possible, and how to accomplish it?
    Thanks.

How to use an SSD with your HDD
If you are going to use an SSD as a boot drive together with your existing HDD as the "data" drive, here's what you can do.
After installing the SSD you will need to partition and format the SSD using Disk Utility. Then, install OS X on the SSD. After OS X has been installed boot from the SSD. Use Startup Disk preferences to set the SSD as the startup volume.
Open Users & Groups preferences. Click on the lock icon and authenticate. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your user account listing in the sidebar and select Advanced Options from the context menu. You will see a field labeled "Home dir:" At the right end you will see a Change button. Click on it. In the file dialog locate the Home folder now located on the HDD (HDD/Users/account_name/.) Select the folder, click on Open button. Restart the computer as directed. When the computer boots up it will now be using the Home folder located on the HDD.
Another more technical method involving the Terminal and aliases is discussed in depth here: Using OS X with an SSD plus HDD setup - Matt Gemmell. This is my preferred approach because I can select which of the Home's folders I want on the HDD and which I don't want. For example, I like to keep the Documents and Library folders on the SSD because I access their content frequently.
Be sure you retain the fully bootable system on your HDD in case you ever need it.

  • New Macbook Pro set up is stuck on iCloud Drive upgrade screen

I am setting up a new macbook pro and have chosen the option to upgrade to iCloud Drive. After choosing to continue with that option, the spinning ball has been active for quite sometime. Is this normal? I am afraid to force restart as it is a brand new computer.

I had the same issue.  I logged in & registered the device SN (several other devices (SN's) are already associated with the account).  I don't know if this is simply coincidental or not, but as soon as I did that the new mac book pro continued into setup & eventually finished booting up & is now apparently pulling in user/account settings.  I still have to confirm the iCloud Drive setup, but so far at least it moved on past the 'spinning wheel.'

  • Strange computer appearing in shared in Finder

In Finder, you can see computers in your "shared" column, and lately I see an unknown computer appear named mac002500d1524a.  Does this mean another computer is hooked to my wireless network?  I have seen many people with similar problems but I don't see a definite solution.
I am using Lion OS and Airport Express.

The "computer" that you see in the Finder under SHARED may be another user on one of your computers if they have more than one user. Depending on how your service provider's network operates, you may also see other devices there from time to time.
This does not necessarily mean that another computer is on your network. The way that you will know if another device is on your wireless network is as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click directly on Wireless Clients (3rd line from the bottom) and a window will open to show the ID of each device that is connected to your wireless network.
If you want to know which device is which, turn off all of your wireless devices, then turn the wireless back on at one device. Jot down the name of the device along with the ID. Then do the same for other wireless devices on your network, one at a time. The idea is to get a list of all your devices. Don't forget iPhones, wireless printers, etc.
Then check for devices again on your network. If you have 3 wireless devices, and you see 4 devices on the wireless network, and one has an ID that you do not recognize, you may have an unwanted guest.

  • How to remove a device that has been sold from iCloud Drive

I sold my iPhone 5, yet it still appears in iCloud Drive. Have been unable to find a way to delete using iTune, MBPR or iPhone 6 Plus.

If you mean that it still appears on the list of devices on iCloud.com when you click on your name and choose iCloud Preferences, you can't remove it yourself.  Another poster said that Apple support told him that it is supposed to be automatically removed when the new owner uses it to sign into a different iCloud account.

  • Unable to compile LaTex on iCloud Drive

Hi - I've just moved over to using iCloud drive to store my work. However I have hit a snag. Most of my documents that I write are written in LaTex. When I try to compile a document stored on iCloud drive it seems to fail (see screenshot), it appears that iCloud drive prevents the software from writing temporary files to iCloud drive. Any tips on what I should do?
If I run the same document but have the files on my desktop then it compiles fine. It just seems to be a problem when they are stored in the iCloud drive. Is there anything I can do to fix this writing issue?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Install the app that has the folder you want removed if it is not still installed on your iOS device.
From that iOS device go to Settings>iCloud Drive>
Turn off the folders which you would like to remove then delete the app.

  • How to get a newHP driver to appear in the Printer Setup Dropdown box?

I asked this question in a slightly different way in another thread, but I think it was too specific. The problem is that I installed the new driver for an HP OfficeJet 6110 and it works fine via USB, but it is ultimately a remote printer. The wireless Print server works fine with another windows PC and I can ping it via the Mac and get it to spool with the generic driver (gibberish). HP mounts the driver like an application and it doesn't appear in the Printer Setup as one of the options, and I don't know how to get it to appear there. I've searched the forums and Gimp appears to work on Epson/Canon, etc., but not HP, so I'm at a bit of a loss.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

I have the same problem. Attempting to add a printer, Stylus Photo R200 (USB OS 10.4.11) to the Printer List I get the same error message, "client=error-request-value-too-long". I've reinstalled drivers multiple times to no avail.
Somebody out there know what to do?

I install at the new update cc2014 but for some reason in my computer appear double app the old one and the new  but the new dose not gave the setup that I have in my old version! What happen ?

Seriously, I doubt that your answer helped Erik.  He has two issues.
He installed the new program and has a double icon folders with software. One for the new &  one for the old.  (I have this same problem.)
He must have attempted to open one of the products and no longer see his personal settings transferred over.  (The install will ask to have those settings migrating, but you have to accept it. eh, I could be wrong; but, that what i remembered doing.
    I concur with his first.
However, i can not get any of my products to work.  Ie. have to constantly click on icon to open; once open i get a unexpected error and have to close. I'm on a mac pro w/ latest os system.
In addition, I have tried to uninstall the older by clicking on the application's manager icon.; Unfortunately, it shuts down at each attempt.  Therefore, I am unable to un-install the old product or the new.
Possibly, we were hoping that the new product would be simply updated if an old recent was already installed.
Instead, the installation simply created a new icon and the new folder with product.

  • My husband's iPad is still trying to upgrade to iCloud Drive after nearly 48 hours. I have restarted the iPad and restarted main computer and router. Any other suggestions?

I purchased a new iPad Air 2 and reset my iPad 2 to factory settings for my husband to use. It updated to the newest operating system but the iCloud Drive has been trying to upgrade for the last 48 hours. I have tried restarting the iPad as well as restarting my desktop and internet modem (we have issues occasionally that require us to do this). I have no way of stopping the upgrade process to try again. Any ideas? Thanks!

You can't stop the upgrade process for what? iCloud Drive? Does that mean that you cannot go to Settings>iCloud>iCloud Drive>Off? If that doesn't work, did you try resetting the iPad - not restarting, Resetting is different,
Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that kick starts iCloud Drive.

  • My iPad 3 is not backing up to either iCloud Drive or to my Computer after upgrading to iOS8.

I have an iPad3 LTE that is unable to backup to iCloud Drive or to my home computer since I installed iOS8. Around the same time I also swapped out my SIM card since my work picked up my data plan (Verizon data carrier). The backup starts and then gets kicked back saying that there is an error
I have tried doing a soft reset by pressing the power and main button down simultaneously - This did not make a difference. I have also tried the Reset All Settings option which also did not fix the problem.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks!

  • After IOS 8 upgrade on phone, documents no longer synch in Pages.  I find out subsequently that when I upgraded it gave me iCloud Drive, which won't synch unless my computer has OSX Yosemite, which isn't available.  Apple says they can't get me back.

Apple upgraded me to a new IOS that has now eliminated my ability to synch Pages docs which I've been using quite successfully.  So now every time work in pages it tells me that my documents won't synch and to "upgrade to OSX Yosemite."  The problem:  Yosemite IS NOT AVAILABLE yet.  Will they let me go back to the old way until Yosemite is available?  No they will not.  I'm stuck with devices that won't work together.  I recall no warning that by upgrading to IOS8 would mess up my ability to use my devices as intended -- that my devices would be less compatible.  I feel duped and manipulated.  And to clarify, I only updated on my phone.  Once I saw (subsequent to update) that my synching of docs would no longer work, I decided not to upgrade my iPad mini.  But guess what -- just updating my iPhone has now changed me to iCloud Drive and that means that all of my devices are incompatible.

That happened to me. I rebooted and now my docs are back again.

  • HT201385 how can I see a folder in iCloud drive with documents from my computer on my other devices?  Seems like it only works with iApps like Pages etc.

I have iCloud drive set up on all my apple devices and all is current, but I have a older I put in iCloud drive on my laptop.  How can I get to those documents in that folder on my iPhone and iPad? Is there also a way to grant access like in the good old days for someone to drop a file to me in a quasi-public folder in iCloud drive.  We did this years ago in OS7...why not now?

You're going to find that pretty much every cloud storage system works in a similar way. Some, like OneDrive, will allow you to select what folders sync to and from every machine it's installed on.
Maybe something like that would fit your needs better.

  • Can I store iWork suite docs both on my computer and in the iCloud Drive?

Essentially like Google Drive works--can I have a folder on my (to-be-purchased) Macbook that syncs to the cloud so I can work offline in a, say, Pages document and then access it elsewhere via iCloud? Or does it save only online?

iCloud Drive keeps hidden shadow copies of all documents you upload from your Mac. These shadow copies will be used, if you are not connected to the Internet.  So you can always access your iCloud Drive documents.

  • ICloud 4 windows 8.1 installs but iCloud Drive doesn't appear

Successfully installed iCloud 4 for windows 8.1, but application doesn't stay running in systray, and no iCloud Drive folder gets created, even though option is ticked in control panel.

I have now installed the 4.0.1 update to the iCloud control panel for windows, and the problem is still present. I check the iCloud drive option, but it does not create an icloud drive folder. The next time I open iCloud control panel for windows the iCloud drive option is unchecked.
