Unknown Computer collection with multiple Primary sites

Hi All,
We have a SCCM 2012 SP1 envionment with a CAS and 2 Primary sites in seperate countries. Last week the primary site server in site B was down, this affected PXE boot deployments to the Unknown Computers group across the whole environment eg: site A. PXE
booting to existing collections worked fine but PXE booting to unknown computers would time out, like the deployment server was waiting for a response from both Site A and Site B site servers.
Now my question is this expected behaviour? Do the primary site servers across the whole environment need to be up for the Unknown Computers collection to work properly?
Another thing I noticed is that the admins for Site B have created their own site specific Unknown Computers collection so i'm wondering if this is getting referenced when Unknown Computers PXE boot in Site A.

I doubt that there's something happening cross-sites, but - as Jason said - logs would be helpful.

  • Collection Evaluation - multiple primary sites

    Hello:
If I have a CAS and multiple primary sites and have a set of collections all created on the CAS, where is the collection evaluation done (I believe coll eval is done only on primary sites)?  Is it done on each primary site independent of others?
And then they replicate to CAS and CAS sorts out possible conflicts/discrepancies?
So if I set the collection evaluation schedule, is that based on the local time of that particular primary site?
    Thank you,

    Thank you Jason,
I think I understand your comment about the managed systems - the systems that are assigned to that primary site.  To take a simple case to help me understand - So if I have a device collection that has a query based on OU name=Dallas and that collection
evaluates on PS1 and also on PS2.   Both will send their results to the CAS.  Generally they should both evaluate to same result (maybe sometimes a bit different based on the DC they connect to).  It seems in this case they are repeating the
same work since its all global data?
    Thank you

  • Do I need multiple primary sites? Some design questions..

I have about a thousand users & devices, across two sites.   Setting up SCCM 2012 R2 and wondering if I need to have multiple primary sites?
From everything I've read so far, it seems that a single standalone site will handle tens of thousands of users/devices or some very large number, so I'm not sure if I'd ever need a secondary site or what it's function would be - failover, backup, or is
it just best practice to have different roles spread across multiple servers?
I was originally thinking of just doing a single primary site on a single server.  But then I'm not sure if my DP should be separate.
Can someone point me the the right direction to a high level planning document or blog?
    Thanks
    Nathan

How many clients are there in total? How many at each location? What's the WAN speed in between?
Multiple primaries are only needed for scale out purposes (>100k clients)!
    Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de
About 500 at each, T1 speeds connect the sites, so I want to enable software metering I think.
Also - if I have a single server with DP role installed, what kind of RAM/HD requirements are needed?  I know this probably varies with the install/features, but are there any ballpark estimates/starting points posted?  Sorry I know this is probably
on the MS site somewhere, the the volume of information is hard to weed through.   Update, I found some good guidelines here:
    http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/06/27/sccm-2012-site-hardware-requirements/
For 1000 or less users, is a single Gb NIC sufficient?  Sounds like it might be?   Also, when using a virtual machine, do you need to still somehow separate SQL logs & data from OS?
Update #2, looks like that above post answered that question too:
If you’re in a VM, it’s not sufficient to have a single VHD file, and having the roles split among 4 virtual drives inside that file.  It’s not sufficient to have that single file on a shared set of remote disks.  It’s not sufficient to have that
single file on a dedicated set of disks, regardless of the number and size of those disks.  Any VM should be configured to only run the OS, and the 3 other spindles should be dedicated sets of disks, attached to the VM.  Otherwise, it’s like painting
with watercolors in a hurricane…you’re spending a lot of time, looking creative, with zero value.
But I'll take any follow up comments or recommendations if you have them on proper VM setup.
    Thanks

  • Powershell script to get all the AD accounts with multiple primary SMTP addresses

I require a script to be run in powershell for Win Server 2008 R2, to look to AD accounts with multiple primary SMTP addresses ?
Description: In my Organization, there can be a configuration error which might have resulted in multiple primary SMTP addresses to be assigned to a user. I want to get the list of these AD accounts which have multiple primary SMTP addresses

    Hi,
You can use the PowerShell command given below to get the AD User name and primary smtp address in a OU,
    Get-ADuser -filter {proxyAddresses -like "*"} -searchbase "ou=testOU,dc=MyDomain,dc=local" -properties * | select name,proxyaddresses | fl
NOTE: proxyAddresses attribute in AD User matches the primary SMTP address.

  • Trying to use Variables with the Unknown Computer collection to prompt Task Sequence for Domain, Join Account, Join Password, and Join Location.

I want to use SCCM 2012 R2 and OSD, to boot a bare metal machine, install and OS, and bind it to Active Directory. The catch is that I want the deployment process in SCCM to prompt for the following pieces of information, and then use that information to
bind the computer to Active Directory (W/O using MDT) instead of supply the data in the task sequence.
    Computer Name
    Domain
    Domain OU
    Domain Join Account
I am approaching this in a similar fashion as stated in this blog.
    http://osdblog.com/2013/06/26/add-a-prompt-for-a-computer-name-in-your-sccm-deployment/
I have added the following collection variables to the unknown computers collection:
When I launch the task sequence, I am prompted as I would expect. I input the desired information, the deployment competes, but it does not bind to the domain.  Here is what my TS looks like. I intentally disabbled  the apply Network Settings step
because it forces you to enter specific information if it enabled. I don't want to that, thus why I am trying to use the variables.
My SMSTS log does not have a whole lot of meaningfull data, but I can post it if someone wants to see it. The only possible thing I could think of would be drivers, their are some driver errors in the log. However, if I turn on the Apply Networking setting
process in the task sequence and turn off the variables, the machines bind fine. With that in mind, I would not think my problem would be driver related. Anyone out there have expertise in using a process like this, that could assist?
    --Tony

Awesome! Thanks. One more thing, how should I supply the OSDJoinPassword variable? Should I just enter %OSDJoinPassword%
for Password and Confirm Password? I can not tell if it will actually read it as a variable or try to use "%OSDJoinPassword%" for
    the actual password.

  • Multiple Primary Sites connected to a CAS

On a global deployment of SCCM 2012 we are planning on deploying a CAS in the global domain and Primary Sites in the sub domains and Secondary Site in the smaller subsidiaries where needed.
I understand that all collections, clients and packages come through to the CAS but could an administrator connected to Primary Site A see the collections and packages in Primary Site B? Are they independent of each other with the exception of the CAS or
do all sites in the hierarchy show everything from all sites?
If that is the case then ideally we would want administrators of Site A to not even be able to connect to Site B but am struggling to understand how this could be achieved?

"The use of a CAS was made due to the scale of the deployment."
So you mean you have more than 100k devices.  Regardless of having a CAS and multiple primaries or having only 1 primary, if you have (let's say) a total of 3,000 devices; split up into 1k silos of responsibility.
you Essentially create 3 Collections, and those 3 silos get rights to their collection of devices.  Connecting to the primary sites' for the console really isn't "normal" in CM12--it's called the Central Administration Site for a
reason--it really makes it less confusing for those people that need to use the console.  You may not think so initially (coming from a CM07 point of view); but it really is the best in a CM12 world.  If you have people in different locations which
need console rights, the easiest, IMO, is to have a Citrix-hosted console; and people just connect to that console remotely; where the citrix host is in the same data center as the Central Administration Site.
Now, if you do NOT have 100k devices, or you are nowhere near that number, please please please, I beg you, PLEASE rethink your perceived need for a cas and primary sites.  T-shooting replication issues is no fun, no joy to be had there at ALL.
you need to setup RBA correctly regardless of a CAS and primaries, or just 1 primary--so having a CAS and primaries when there is ZERO NEED for it due to scale--well, all I can say is I sincerely hope you are a contractor, and are just setting this up and
then bailing never ever to return, and leaving the mess behind for the poor day to day admins to deal with.
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

  • Multiple primary site - Discovery issue

    Hi,
I am working on a scenario where there is 1 CAS and 3 Primary sites(PS1,PS2,PS3). At PS1 site, Active directory system Discovery is only configured and all the OU for all the sites are added. On the other two Primary sites this discovery was not configured.
Now I wanted to ask is there any issue due to this , or should I have to configure this discovery on both sites??
    Thanks
    Pallavi

no, you can still control that. Site Assignment is either based on an AD Query or you hard coding the site code during the install process. Client deployment depends on the method, in this process content boundary Groups and DP's are being used.

  • 1.burned a hole in my screen can I get this repaired?  2. Even though I have it set to open up to a blank screen, no web pages, my computer (safari) continuously opens with multiple safari sites open. It doesn't seem to matter what I do, it just reverts

    1. I burned a small hole in my screen, is that fixable/replaceable? 2. Even though I have my 15" MacBook Pro set to open to empty screen when I open Safari, it constantly opens multiple previous pages. It doesn't seem to matter what I do it just reverts back to opening multiple pages. Major security risk, my bank pages have popped back up after my computer has been shut down, account numbers and all. I took my computer to an Apple store and the genious there tols me...      "honey, you can't hold your laptop on your lap, that's the problem, it's getting too hot" he honestly said that. Could someone please help me? Thanks

Apple doesn't call its portable machines 'notebooks' instead of 'laptops' for nothing - using a MacBook Pro in your lap can cause some burns on your skin, poor ventilation, etc. So use it on a hard flat surface - not your lap, pillows, bedclothes, etc.
As for burning a hole in your screen, you'll have to revisit the Apple Store and see how much they would charge for a new screen. It's likely to be a bit expensive.
And if you've Safari set to re-open tabs when you restart, you can disable this feature -> Safari-Preferences-General.
    Good luck,

  • APEX Interactive Report Compute Case with multiple conditions to highlight

My ultimate is to highligt a row in an interactive report based on two conditions. I didn't see a way to use the highligt feature with two conditions. So I thought I would try to create a computation based on the two conditions. Then use that result for the highligting. Though I don't seem to be a be able to use multiple conditions in my computation Case statement. Is there a different syntax?
    Here is what I have:
    Case
      When  C = 'Open' and  I > 15 Then 'True'
      Else 'False'
End The error I get is: Invalid computation expression. and
    Application Express 4.0.2.00.07
    Thanks!
Edited by: cjmartin on Jan 10, 2012 10:57 AM

I'm surprised no one responded to this. What I did to resolve this issue was create a nested case statement. I don't think this was a good solution, but I can't find anyone else giving input. I know I can create another computational column in the select statement for the report, but the 'Interactive Report' part is where this should be. I want my clients to calculate what they want. Kind of hard when you can not use an 'and' for a range criteria.

  • Computer Speed with Multiple Users

    Hi,
I can't find anything on this topic and if do, its about PC. When I got my computer 2 years ago I
Processor  2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
I did my set up and opened it up as the primary user. Later, I was fooling about at the top right corner with my log in name and say 'user & groups' and unknowing to me, I opened another user. I was like 'hey thats so cool. I started working on this log in user and totally forgot the first one I set up. Month down
the line, I was just fooling around and noticed the top right menu and saw two names, and i learned I can switch over to two user accounts. Now I want to get rid of the first one.
    1. Is there anyway I can transfer all from the first one to my second account so I delete the first one so I'll only have one account?
    2. By having two users(my computer has been so slow sometimes even after clean installing and upgrading to Lion) does that slow down my computer? My friends(PC users) say yes, cause I'm using memory from the unused user and computer space.  Is this true(I'm about to delete the first one) or it doesn't have anything to do with it?
    3. Are the two iTunes from each user the same(I see the second one i made has more music) but I"m thinking its the same computer and music on the iTunes HD so how can that be?
    Thanks

Don't delete the second user account! Keep it around. Everyone should have a spare admin account. Three big reasons:
Sometims user accounts get borked and you can't log in to them. A spare account can save your bacon if this happens.
A spare account is also useful for troubleshooting misbehaving apps. If an app misbehaves in one account, try it in the other, to see if it is a user account problem or a system wide problem.
A spare admin account also allows you to run your everyday account as a non-admin user. Running unnecessarily as admin is bad security practice, since everything you do, every app you run, runs with elevated admin privileges. Apple's security guidelines say to use a non-admin account for everyday use and use and admin account only for tasks that require it.

  • IISProxy driving crazy with multiple IIS sites ?

    Hi,
    under IIS 5 , I've set 3 web sites :
port 81 - > uses f:\weblogic\svr1\ for iisproxy and iisforward
port 82 - > uses f:\weblogic\svr2\ for iisproxy and iisforward
port 83 - > uses f:\weblogic\svr3\ for iisproxy and iisforward
My problem is that the server on port 83 seems to use the PathPrepend
    defined in f:\weblogic\svr1\ !!!
I've checked, double checked, triple checked, restarted IISAdmin service ,
    but no way.
    Has anybody a solution ?
WLS is version 7 sp2, running under windows 2000.

Did you make sure that you have each instance running with High Isolation?
I have also seen a case where the directory structure has caused issue. If
you do have High Isolation everywhere, then try changing the directory
    structure such that you have
    F:\svr1
    F:\svr2
    F:\svr3
and see if that makes a difference.

  • Users with multiple primary email addresses

I have some users that have multiple email addresses. I need to keep these email mailboxes completely separate. I do not want proxy email accounts all going into one inbox. So, how can I create multiple mailboxes for the same user ([email protected] and
[email protected])? I need userA to log into each email account separately. I basically need a way for the system to see these as two different users all together, the problem being the username login only uses the userA
portion and not the whole address. Any help would be appreciated.

User A can have one mailbox associated with his ID.  You can create other "User A" mailboxes with different names and e-mail addresses as shared mailboxes and grant User A full mailbox rights and send as right.  User A can
then connect to each one of them separately.

  • Severe Site Slow-Down with multiple DNS/Sites

Alright.. this is a bit of a strange situation, any help is appreciated because I'm pretty much out of troubleshooting options.
Mac OS X Server hosting a few important sites and then several "redirect" sites.
    - A PHP/MySQL system
    - 2 normal PHP/MySQL websites
    - 8 Redirects (domain.bz, domain.biz, domain.name, etc..)
The redirects are set up like so:
    - A DNS entry with a "www" alias pointing to the local machine.
    - A site with a .html file containing a meta-refresh to domain.com
The Redirects work just fine when they are enabled, www.domain.biz goes to www.domain.com, etc.. however, the 3 sites that run on the server experience severe slow-down to the point of not even loading.
Normally the sites are blazingly fast..
Anyway, if the redirect site entries are disabled, the slow-down disappears.
As an added oddity.. if Safari is experiencing the slowdown, but I cancel the site load.. the site pulls up missing images/css in varying degrees, depending on when I cancel, so it's like something is "hanging".
There's nothing apparent in the error logs other than a report that 'there is a mismatch between the domain name and reverse DNS' etc.. 'may cause some services to not work properly'.

    Nevermind, I found the problem.
The performance cache was enabled for the redirect sites.

  • FindByPrimaryKeys with multiple primary keys

Hi, I have a table which has a primary key over 2 fields.
I have learned that in this case, I must leave out the <primkey-field> tag from my ejb-jar.xml. In my Entity Bean's Home interface, do I still need to declare a findByPrimaryKey finder method or do I leave it out?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
When you have primary key in 2 fields, then you have to combine them into a class called primary key class.
And yes in your ejb-jar.xml the value for <primkey-field> will be left empty and the value for tag <primkey-key-class> would be the name of your primary key class that you generated. Otherwise, the normal valu would be java.lang.String.

  • USING LOCKBOX with MULTIPLE PRIMARY ACCOUNTS ATTACHED TO THE PAYMENT METHOD

We have set up a payment method with 4 different bank accounts in 4 different currencies - A Batch Source has also been set up using this payment method -
When the batch source is however selected for the lock box the system auto defaults the bank account for the functional currency and does not allow the other accounts to be selected -
Can some one pls help clarify -
    1) If we have receipt trxs for these 4 accounts, will they be processed via this single lockbox as the batch source has all these accounts or do i need to create a lockbox per bank account?
    2) Why am I not able to review the accounts associated with my payment method in the lockbox set up form.
    3) Are there any specific requirements that we should code for the lockbox data file to succesfully load into the four different accounts?
Any response will be hugely appreciated

When you enter bank details in master, update field "Partner bank type" LFBK-BVTYP with free form value, may be currency is good choice.
During invoice entry, this field is available for update, update which bank to be used for payment of this invoice. You may build logic to populate this field, like substitution to populate currency in this field during invoice posting.
During payment, system checks value in field Partner bank type in invoice and selects corresponding bank.
    Hope this helps.
