Unknown Device Event Type from a router
Hi,
I just included my first router within the reporting devices and decided to take a look at the raw events coming in to the MARS. To my surprise I see just two types of events :
- Generic IOS syslog
- Unknown Device Event Type
This second one looks like SNMP because every message begins with "SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises." and seems to contain OIDs and data. Is this normal or am I having some kind of problem? The syslog messages seem to be interpreted correctly; in fact they generated a few incidents when there were some problems on one of the interfaces. I'm worried that the SNMP messages (traps?) are not being understood.
Thanks for your help,
Joe
Yes, I realize that. Unfortunately I don't have access to the router and I'll have to ask what has been configured. I was wondering why MARS sees this data as raw events, if indeed they are SNMP traps. Does MARS listen on port 162 UDP?
Thanks,
Joe

Unknown Device Event Type Adobe?
Starting yesterday I have about 60 notifications that state "Unknown Device Event Type" and the packet was dropped inline. The majority of the Raw message starts out with....P...L...E.... and has ...Adobe..d...in the message body. Maybe Adobe sent out an update that is causing this? Different Source, Destinations and Ports in the notifications. No virus or spyware on the network that I can find.
They're apparently IPS alarms? Take a look at the raw message and it should tell you the signature ID. Then look that up on mySDN.

Please help: Get IP address of a remote device (wifi kit) from DHCP router
Hi ppl,
I am about to get the IP address for the wifi kit which is connected to the same router with my PC.
I need to control my wifi kit through TCP client communication, but DHCP tends to assign new IP address to my wifi kit when connected to router.
Hence, i wish to write a java function to trace the IP address before starts the communication.
I am thinking to get the wifi kit's IP address based on the Hostname (name of the wifi shield):
As below:
InetAddress thatIp = InetAddress.getByName("Wiznet");
System.out.println("IP E:"+thatIp.getHostAddress());
But i don't think this is secure..
I attempt to research for getting IP address with MAC..
But have ambiguity on the result i found.
It stating i have to get the ARP table from router but it is not a good approach.
I have no luck for next finding on how retrieving the table with Java.
Hereby hope to have your advise how can i get the ip address of my wifi kit in a more dynamic and secure method..
is it using Hostname or MAC address or else...
many thanks.hi... wish to have your advise again.
I tried to retrieve the arp table in java and attempt to extract the IP address based on MAC address for particular devise.
But i stuck with the substring... my code is as below:
Process result = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("arp -a");
BufferedReader output = new BufferedReader
(new InputStreamReader(result.getInputStream()));
String line = output.readLine();
while(line != null){
if ( line.startsWith("default") == true ){
System.out.println("is default");
break;
line = output.readLine();
String ipAdd = line.substring(0, 18);
String MACAdd = line.substring(24, 42);
System.out.println(line.length() + " " + line + " " + ipAdd + " " + MACAdd );
i m trying to sub the IP and MAC accordingly.. but i got error saying
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: 42
at java.lang.String.substring(Unknown Source)
at ExecTest.main(ExecTest.java:22)
i dun understand this! as since the length of LINE is 56 , why STRING INDEX OUT OF RANGE happen?!
please advise!!! -
Hi all,
When i have run the query ,I am geting the unknown device event instead of actual device....what would be problem.If the device is showing up AND you are receiving events for it properly, but are still seeing unknown events for it then it's a message that MARS does not support.
If you are running 6.x code then you can use the DSF features to extend a native parser with some custom parser entries to have those messages parsed.
This feature is only available on 6.x code. -
All,
I recently had a Verizon tech visit my house due to constant DVR and remote control freezing. TV content was freezing whether it was locally recorded, pulled from another DVR in the house, or On Demand. On a hunch after the tech tested everything and was about to leave, he unplugged my gigabit switch from the Fios router. Lo and behold everything started running perfectly. Since to the tech, the problem was solved, he closed the case and was on his way. The probem is of course I have more devices than the built in router switch provides ports for. My network is compised of an 8 port Netgear gigabit switch downstream from the Fios router with two wireless access points (with their own built in gigbait switches) connecting to the Netgear gigabit switch. There are no loops in the switch topology. I've tried changing out the router, the gigabit switch, removing the wireless acces points individually as well as plugging the access points directly into the Fios router switch (one at a time with no Netgear switch in the middle) and all scenarious cause the DVR/remote control freeezing to come back. The only devices I can plug into the Fios router without causing freezes are PC's....anything with it's own switch essentially brings the network to it's knees. If anyone has an idea how to get my network back in one piece AND make the DVR's/remotes behave, I'd greatly appreciate the help!
My Fios equipment:
MI-424WR GEN-3I rev I (eye) running firmware 40.19.36
5 Motorola HD-DVRs all QIP 7232-2 running software release 1.9.1 platform build 25.39 (Oct. 22, 2012)
Specific config:
75/35 Fios connecting via ethernet from ONT. Set-top boxes connect to Fios router coax port via powered splitter.
*All SNR/dB mesasurements taken by the tech from the set-top boxes and router are well within spec.
Fios router provides DHCP addressing. Wireless N access points are configured for roaming with the same SSID and non-overlapping channels. Access points are not providing routing or IP adressing...all layer 3 and up services still provided by Fios router

I am inclined to echo several of the "tns" comments, particularly with respect to your splitter. My layout is based on a standard 8-port splitter of the type usually supplied in a VZ install. In addition I do have a ChannelPlus device that functions as a powered splitter, but its use is limited to distribution of secondary TV signals to older analog TVs. My first point then is that this may be an offender as "tns" has suggested.
In addition, I'd describe your wiring as "non-standard" (red-colored items in the above diagram) As you're no doubt aware, with 75/35 you don't really need Cat5e from the ONT (your original diagram). It seems the highest tiers do require it, but in "standard" installations this run is coax directly to an 8-port non-powered splitter (below diagram), then from that splitter via coax to all STBs and CableCards, other TVs, et.), and also to the Actiontec. Subsequent feeds from the Actiontec to wired devices (including WAPs) are via Ethernet (typically Cat 5e).
In fact I don't immediately see how your STBs get additional services such as On Demand and IMG with the wiring shown in your diagram (perhaps someone can help me out here). In "standard" installs the Actiontec must be connected via coax to the ONT to provide such services to other network clients. I don't see that requirement being met here.
For starters I'd recommend that you change your service from WAN Ethernet to WAN coax. This can easily be accomplished over the telephone. Then I'd run coax directly from the ONT to the Actiontec as in my revised diagram below (blue-colored items). If your setup can manage with this arrangement, I think it will help greatly with the "freezing" issue.

Subsequent Note: You provided additional info while I was composing a response, and I'd like to offer another comment. Structured wiring "panels" of the type usually available are pre-configured to provide data, phone and video. This usually means that one is in certain respects limited by the ideas of the panel designer. I have what can be called a structured wiring layout, but it really is composed of individual small custom networks for each service (automation, security, video, data, telco, etc.), configured so that all wiring terminates in "home run" fashion at a central panel (a few details here: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Home-Networking/Cmon-Show-Us-Your-Network/m-p/481733#M765 ). This layout makes it easier to make adjustments (and there have been quite a few over the intervening years). I'm thinking that in your case you may have to abandon the powered splitter (presumably) built into the panel in order to avoid your present fix.
Subsequent Subsequent Note: From your description it seems that you are using more than a single "whole house" DVR to supply programming to other devices. This is a bit puzzling to me because somewhere along the line I recall reading that only a single whole house DVR was allowed on the network. Can you elaborate a bit? -
Remove devices from my router connection????
So I have 2 question..
1st. How do i check what wireless devices are connected to my routert??
2nd. How do i boot off or remove those wireless devices from my router so that the devices wont connect to my router without a password??
Thanbk youOpen an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the Status tab, then click on the subtab 'Local Network' and click on the Radion Button 'DHCP Client Table', this table will give you list of all the wired/wireless devices connected to your Router...
You can Change/Enable Wireless Security here , Wireless devices once connected using the new Wireless Security Key/Passwword will remain connected unless you remove the Network Profile from Preferred Networks under Wireless Network properties. -
Unknown Device Type in LMS v3.1
I have quite a number unknown devices registered under CS. How do I add new packages into LMS v3.1 so that these devices can be discovered correctly?
Download and install the latest mdf package from http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cw2000-cd-one available for your version of Common Services. Also double check (by snmpwalk with oid=.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2) that devices are really supported in LMS 3.1

Then re-run data collection and launch topology services.
If the above steps does not work, get the following information.
1. Enable debug from data collection under Campus Manager ---> Administration ---> Debugging Options --> Data Collection and select the "topo module". Also enable Debug under Campus Manager ---> Administration --> Debugging Options --> Topology and change Debug level to "trace".
2. Start a new data collection.
3. Launch Topology Map again.
4. Upload the ani.log file from CSCOpx/log/ani.log
5. From the Java Console, copy and paste the outputs to a text file.

Is it possible to SNMP to other devices from a router?
Hi
I would like to be able to issue snmpset and snmpget commands to a particular device from my router.This must be done using SNMP V3
For example,
snmpset -v 3 -u <user> -l authPriv -A <auth> -X <priv> -a SHA -x AES <host IP> <OID>
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks
GeoffHi Geoff,
on a 7600/SRE4 I do see such a possibility:
7600#snmp get ?
v1 use the SNMPv1 protocol
v2c use the SNMPv2c protocol
v3 use the SNMPv3 protocol
7600#snmp get v3 ?
WORD IP/IPv6 address or hostname of SNMP destination
7600#snmp get v3

Help - How to stop Bluetooth on BB10 from repeatedly trying to connect to unknown device
Hi,
So about a week ago I was trying to connect my Q10 to a Bluetooth speaker. In the process of this (and rather stupidly) I tried to connect to some unknow device that is not mine (nor was it the bluetooth speaker). I quickly deleted this connection. However my Q10 now constantly asks me to enter a "numeric passkey" to connect to this unknown device. I've tried changing the Q10 Bluetooth name, my "discoverable" option is set to off and I've deleted ALL saved Bluetooth connections, but my Q10 keeps beeping at me asking for a passkey. Short of a factory reset how do I stop this happening? It appears (to me at least) that something in the Q10 still thinks this is a valid device and wants to complete the connection.
I have unchecked "Connect to the last device when turned on" and also turned off rSAP Mode (whatever that is).
I work in a congested area with mutiple companies very close so have no option to go find the device (it only bugs me as I drive into the carpark and I am at my desk).
Software version is 10.2.1.2122.
thanks in advance for any help to stop this as Bluetooth is basically useless right now for me at work.
Paulfreakinvibe wrote:
If you put in 0000 as passcode, does it pair?
So a follow up to this (and using the question you asked). Taking the question about can I connect I did connect to the device again and then turned "Handsfree Calling" off in the Device Details. This seems to leave the device present, but unconnected. It is no longer bugging me, which is something. I'd rather not have it present at all of course, but that seems to be hard!
I'd appreciate your thoughts on this as a long term solution?
Many Thanks, -
Aironet 1600 - A response was not received from the router or access point
Hi,
I'm trying to set up a wireless network with multiple SSID's. The new network only has CISCO products (router, switches). For the moment I'm trying to connect to 1 SSID (Windekind.Gast). the SSID is visible but when connecting devices have te folowing error message in the log:
Connection status summary
Connection started at: 2015-02-17 09:55:49-951
Profile match: Success
Pre-Association: Success
Association: Fail
Security and Authentication: Not started
Root cause:
Wireless association to "Windekind.Gast" failed
A response was not received from the router or access point.
Detailed root cause:
Wireless association to this network failed. Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or accesspoint.
The signal is perfect (I'm only a few feet away from the AP).
To make sure there is no dhcp problem I tested the swich port in access mode for vlan 30 which supplied an IP correctly. I'm really not seeing the problem and searched the web for days now! Any help would be very much appreciated!
Below the config of the access point (done via de web interface).

endHi Rasika
thanks for the reply! 10.0.0.81 belongs to vlan 1. I changed the config as suggested but no luck.. (same problems are logged in the event viewer). the ap is connected to a switchport in trunk mode and vlan 1 is the native lan (untagged). the port also is joined to vlan 30 (and others).
Below the new config. Hope you can see an error..

what type of wireless router is the 1st generation time capsule? Is it B, G or N? I'm trying to establish whether its causing signal degradation as a result of conflicts with my BT Home Hub router.
The 1st generation Time Capsule is an 802.11"n" wireless router, but in default settings it produces a signal that is also compatible with "g" and "b" wireless devices.
If your HomeHub is in close proximity to the Time Capsule and it is also producing a wireless network, either the wireless on the HomeHub or the TIme Capsule should be be disabled to minimize the chances of wireless interference.
Interference may also be coming from any cordless phones you may have, or another nearby wireless network as well. -
Unknown device on other Devices
FN+ Hibernate not working
Fn+ Easy Eject Not working
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi sajimathew,
Could you please provide some more info about your computer and OS like what Windows version do you use and is it 32 or 64 bit? What is the model/type of your z60m? You should find a sticker under the computer in the format "xxxx-yyy" where the X is 4 numbers and the Y is numbers and letters (for example 4328-3EG). Do NOT post your serial number in public, i'm only asking for the model number.
Did you clean install Windows using a standard windows installation CD/DVD or did you use a Lenovo recovery CD/DVD set?
For the Fn + function key to work you need to install the hotkey features software. The other unknown devices is probably some missing drivers because you did a clean install.
I would recommend that you download Lenovo system update that will give you a list of drivers and lenovo software for your computer and it will give you the option to download and install all the drivers as well as other Lenovo software. That will save you a lot of time and work compared to downloading and installing each driver manually. You also have the option to deselect a driver or lenovo software if you don't want everything.

Version 4.0 is for Windows 7 only while 3.14 is for XP and Vista. After using system update and if there still are some missing drivers or features that won't work you could reply to this thead asking for further help. In case of missing drivers it's helpful if you include the hardware ID which you can find by doubleclicking the device in device manager, select the details tab and select hardware IDs from the dropdown box.
