Unknown Epson software causing permission errors

In Yosemite 10.10.2 have tried reparing permissions at least 10 times but am still getting the same error messages for some Epson printer and fax software plugins such as Library/Printers/EPSON/Fax/Utility/Plugins/FaxPrinterSpeedDial.plugin/Contents/R esources/EditSpeedDialView.nib . I have never had an Epson printer nor software and would like to know if I should just dump the Epson folder in the trash. Any idea how it got there in the first place?

I don't repair permissions very often. Only did so many times to get rid of that error hoping it will make the system more stable.
I noticed there are also Brother, HP, Lexmark, PPDs and Samsung's folders in the Printers library. Looks like they come along with Yosemite.
In any case I deleted the Epson one and don't get the error any more so thank you very much.

  • Java update 6 causing constant permission errors

    Hi Folks
    I was looking for a little more experienced thoughts about the numerous persistent permission errors caused by the last java update for apple's software update. I've read forum articles that says it's OK to ignore them. And the Apple Support KB page that list the dozens of errors that can be safely ignored. But it just doesn't feel right. I'm tempted to revert to a pre java update backup version of the OS, that repair permissions gave a clean bill of health to it's screen. My question is; By not updating java Do I have more risk than by running with all the constant errors caused this update in file permissions? In trying to learn more about java I found among other things these snippets from Boutell.Com
    However, most people do not have Java applications on their computers these days, and most websites useFlash instead of Java for the interactive features that used to be commonly written in Java.
    Removing Java on MacOS X
    Removing Java on MacOS X is not recommended as Apple has made Java a standard part of the operating system and may rely on it to a greater degree than a typical Windows system.
    What you should NOT do
    Either update Java, or remove it. Do not refuse the updates. That gives you the worst of all possible worlds: a buggy old version of Java that might be exploited by
    maliciously coded web pages.
    Just  wondering what others thought about this. And just how useful is java these days?  Is it true Java has been dropped from OS 10.7? Hopefully, Flash is on the way out too.
    Well thanks for considering this.

    I don't see those errors, but Disk Utility cannot fix anything related to symbolic links, so all I can recommend is to ignore them. Your other option is to reinstall the OS and then run Software Update, after making a bootable backup/clone.

  • Javaw has caused an error in unknown .

    I need help to correct the following problem. (I am running ME on a Dell Inspiron 8000 find the following when I access the control panel):
    start > settings > control panel > java plug-in 1.4.0_02
    after a few seconds I get the error msg:
    "Javaw has caused an error in <unknown>. Javaw will now
    close."
    I suspect this problem to be the cause of IE6 freezing up when accessing certain websites, and the cause of Opera closing down when I hit certain sites.

    Reinstall your JRE or try using a different version and see if that makes a difference

  • Servletengine Unable to send back last chunk: Software caused connection abort: socket write error

    I have created a bundle for the class com.xxx.cq.wcm.foundation.profile.impl.TnailImages from the foundation file com.day.cq.wcm.foundation.profile.impl.ProfileImages.
    Here are the changes I made ot this class
    1. width and height for the default foundation class ProfileImages to have our own default width and height in TnailImages.
    2. selectors changed to our own like
    * @scr.property name="sling.servlet.selectors" values.0="adjust"
    *                                              values.1="adjust.small"
    3.   Variable changed to  private static final String THUMBNAIL = "small";
    4. Metatype annotation won't compile for CQ5.5  I changed this  * @scr.component metatype="false"
           to
         * @Component(immediate = true)
    This bundle compiled successfully and I see it in OSGi felix console, it is in start mode. Even then I did a restart of this bundle as well as whole CQ5.
    When I call an image using the following tag
    <img  alt="" src="/content/dam/geometrixx/portraits/scott_reynolds.jpg.adjust.small.jpg">
    there are no spases anywhere
    the servlet ThumbNailImages is not being call, I see the following error in error.log
    servletengine Unable to send back last chunk: Software caused connection abort: socket write error
    this image is not being displayed in the page, firebug displays failed to load URL

    It seems that my Servlet TnailImages is not being called, it is always going to default servlet.

    Hi Akhter,
    Seeme like in your servlet the value for resourceType set to nt:file. Change it to "sling/servlet/default" and verify.

  • Permission error while addProcessTaskInstance of tcProvisioningOperationsIn

    Hi All,
    I am getting No Permission error while performing addProcessTaskInstance of tcProvisioningOperationsIntf. I am running this against process definition of Xellerate User. I have created a task in Xellerate User process definition and then trying to add this to user's process definition.
    There are two scenario -
    1) The call to addProcessTaskInstance is done by a user that belong to SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR group. It works fine. There is no error.
    2) The call to addProcessTaskInstance is done by a user that does not belong to SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR group. Here I am getting the following error:
    Caused by: Thor.API.Exceptions.tcAPIException: The logged in user does not have permissions to perform this operation
    at com.thortech.xl.ejb.beansimpl.tcProvisioningOperationsBean.addProcessTaskInstance(Unknown Source)
    at com.thortech.xl.ejb.beans.tcProvisioningOperationsSession.addProcessTaskInstance(Unknown Source)
    The handle to tcProvisioningOperationsIntf is created by using the respective user credentials.
    Can somebody suggest ways of how to fix this?
    TIA

  • 10.5.8 Update Provokes An Onslaught of Permission Errors :(

    Is Apple going to offer a fix for this apparently defective update?
    On a brand New Macbook Pro 17"( just after booting up for the very first time) I ran disk utility and did a routine verify of permissions which resulted with no errors displayed. (Passed with flying colors). I soon after was greeted by "Live Update 10.5.8" - "Recommended for All Users". I naively did the install and consequently, upon running Disk Utility proceeded to "Verify", when much to my surprise, a laundry list of "Errors" began to por down my screen. I next did "Repair Permissions" but these errors persisted. I since tried independently downloading and installing "Combo Update" twice in a row followed by a "Verify" (without doing a "Repair"). The Permission Errors continue to cascade,however, this Did resolve initial Warnings encountered as follows:
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Versions/A/Resources /DiskManagementTool" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Extensions/webdavfs.kext/Contents/Resources/loadwebdav" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning: SUID file "usr/sbin/pppd" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning: SUID file "usr/sbin/vpnd" has been modified and will not be repaired..
    Presently, I am still plagued with "Permission Errors" and I did run "Repair" out of frustration and desperation to no avail. I have since read and been advised I should "Ignore" the errors, although they are "Valid"?
    Why do I have "Errors" on my brand new computer I ask.
    I don't understand how this can possibly be acceptable to Apples standards and dismissed as Valid yet fine to ignore.
    How does one determine in the future which "Errors" are "False Positives"and are they really? How do I know the health of my system? I have honestly been conditioned to rely upon Disk Utility- Verify, Repair. How can I feel confidence in future "Recommended Updates"? I am neither a software engineer, nor a technical expert but I do in all honesty have a business to run. I honestly don't know if this unit is reliable in it's present state. Am I going to be plagued and riddled with these errors for the life of this laptop?
    I am genuinely trying to get a handle on this and confess to having lost hours of sleep over it. Hopefully, someone from Apple is working on resolving this for us. Right now I hesitate to even turn it on at this point. I've gone back to using my G4! So for now My Macbook Pro is sitting on my desk looking like an expensive paperweight.
    Thanks for any solution, expertise or reassurance anyone may be able to offer.
    Lastly resorted to "Repair" and this is the result.

    Sorry you are as well in the same boat! I confess I would prefer not to have to live with it.
    AFAIK, everybody has to live with these messages, but they are not actually errors in the permissions of the indicated files & as Apple says should not generally be a cause for concern. For example, all those that start with the letter el in the first position of the permissions string (like "they are lrw-rw-r-- ") are just indicating that the +file type+ of the file is a symbolic link -- the file type is not actually a permission & should not be changed by the repair, which would cause the file not to be recognized as a link & cause a legitimate operational error!

  • Tons of permission errors after iLife updates....

    I always repair permissions before and after any updates..
    Before the iLife update I had just one permission error with cups or whatever, I always get that one...
    After the iLife update, I am having hundreds of errors every time I repair.. I also had a kernel panic this morning..
    I ran FSCK, hundreds of errors.
    I've used disk utility to repair disk.. No problems found.
    I've used Disk Warrior, No problems found..
    Anyone else experience this? Should I try and reapply the standalone installer? I hate to reinstall any software with all these permission errors.
    Advice?

    Yes, everything seems to be working fine.. I reapplied the standalone, no longer have hundreds of permission errors, but still have about 50 each time I repair.. The report shows all errors related to front row and iPhoto..
    If it's no cause for concern, I won't worry about it..
    Thanks.

  • Constant permission error

    Hello,
    I have already been told that it is nothing serious, but if someone could guide me on explaining the reason for the error or message reported, I will appreciate.
    When doing a Repair Disk Permissions, I get:
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Is there a way to fix this? I have some issues with my computer, and I want to discard that it is not related with the permission errors, therefore I wish to clear them out (by fixing what is causing them).
    thanks,

    Under SL, with the loss of /Library/Receipts/db/a.receiptdb, for some reason Repair Permissions won't look beyond the original install package to check for possible updates. The problem probably lies with Disk Utility and not the underlying /usr/libexec/repair_packages. The former has access to potential multiple packages via '/usr/sbin/pkgutil --file-info' and the latter has provisions for adding additional packages to the standard list of packages to verify or repair.
    That software glitch is probably the cause of those two traditional 10.6.1 Snow Leopard SUID file warnings. If you really want to eliminate those warnings, there is a way but it isn't pretty. The fix involves borrowing the 'PathSHA1Checksums' value from one plist and replacing the 'PathSHA1Checksums' in another plist.
    The plist files that need to be changed are found in the /private/var/db/receipts directory. They are in binary format and could be converted to/from text while the changes are made. Or, after navigating there (Finder->Go->Go to folder), the Property List Editor could be employed if Xcode is installed.
    Here are the particulars:
    1. copy the PathSHA1Checksums value for "Locum" from
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.pkg.update.os.10.6.1.plist
    and replace the "Locum" checksum in
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.pkg.BaseSystem.plist
    2. copy the PathSHA1Checksums value for "ARDAgent" from
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.pkg.RemoteDesktopClient.plist
    and replace the "ARDAgent" entry in
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.pkg.Essentials.plist
    If you then run Disk Utility Repair Permissions, those two errors should disappear. In my opinion, eliminating these messages isn't worth the trouble or the risk. If you do decide to proceed, good luck…

  • "Software caused connection abort: recv failed" from Applet in IE to JBoss

    Hi
    We have an application hosted as applets on our web-site, but offer the
    same application to customers as a "standalone" off-line version. This
    off-line version is the same code-base, deploy and HTML but run from the
    local file system (in the absence of a web-server).
    I have a J2EE Jasper Reporting framework running in JBoss. On the off-line
    product JBoss runs on the same machine.
    The on-line version works perfectly in both IE and FireFox.
    The off-line version works perfectly in FireFox, but alas, NOT in IE!
    First, here's some code:
    private JasperPrint generateReport() {
              Hashtable enva = new Hashtable();
              System.out.println("enva.put(\"java.naming.factory.initial\", \"org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory\");");
              enva.put("java.naming.factory.initial", "org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory");
              System.out.println("enva.put(\"java.naming.factory.url.pkgs\", \"org.jboss.naming:org.jnp.interfaces\");");
              enva.put("java.naming.factory.url.pkgs", "org.jboss.naming:org.jnp.interfaces");
              int port = 1099;
              String host = "127.0.0.1";
              System.out.println("enva.put(\"java.naming.provider.url\", \"jnp:// " + host + ":" + port);
              enva.put("java.naming.provider.url", "jnp:// " + host + ":" + port);
              try {
                   System.out.println("Context ictx = new InitialContext(enva);");
                   Context ictx = new InitialContext(enva);
                   System.out.println("Object o = ictx.lookup(\"java:/SessionReport\");");
                   Object o = ictx.lookup("java:/SessionReport");
                   System.out.println("SessionReportControllerHome home = (SessionReportControllerHome) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(o, SessionReportControllerHome.class);");
                   SessionReportControllerHome home = (SessionReportControllerHome) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(o, SessionReportControllerHome.class);
                   System.out.println("SessionReportController remote = home.create();");
                   SessionReportController remote = home.create();
                   PSIberRDSParameterSEIFSAPensionProvidendFund rVO = new PSIberRDSParameterSEIFSAPensionProvidendFund();
                   //call the function on remote
                   try {
                        JasperPrint jasperPrint = new JasperPrint();
                        JasperVO jasperVO = remote.generateMyJasperReport(rVO);
                        jasperPrint = jasperVO.getJasperPrint();
                        return jasperPrint;
                   } catch (Exception re) {
                        System.err.println("remote exception is " + re.getMessage());
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              return null;
         }This function returns a net.sf.jasperreports.engine.JasperPrint object wich I
    feed to the JasperViewer.
    Here's the output in my Java console:
    enva.put("java.naming.factory.initial", "org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory");
    enva.put("java.naming.factory.url.pkgs", "org.jboss.naming:org.jnp.interfaces");
    enva.put("java.naming.provider.url", "jnp:// 127.0.0.1:1099
    Context ictx = new InitialContext(enva);
    Object o = ictx.lookup("java:/SessionReport");

    You'll see just as the InitialContext.lookup is executed a
    javax.naming.CommunicationException is thrown.
    I have re-tried changing hostnames, ip addresses etc.
    Port 1099 is allowed on Personal Firewall and I even diabled it to be sure.
    Like I said, it works fine in FireFox.
    I'm running Windows XP Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050501-1519 : Service Pack 2)
    and IE Version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050501-1519
    and SUN JAVA Version 1.4.2_06 (build 1.4.2_06-b03)
    I have tested this on 1.5.0 (build 15.0_02-b09) with the same result.
    Please help! F1! F1! F1!
    Thanks in advance :D

    So why would I get a java.net.MalformedURLException?!?! And why is the
    classloader having problems loading on of the referenced jars?!
    It's that space in "Program Files"......
    So I copied the folder to D:\Temp and.... volla!! the off-line deploy of the
    application now works fine in Internet Explorer. It's that space!
    So this is my theory, when the initialcontext.lookup is called the classnames specified are reflected, instanciated etc. So when the applet gets the
    document base from the browser IE gives it "C:\Program Files\" and not an
    encoded "file://C:\Program%20Files\" and the spaces causes the classloader
    (or something) to not parse the path correctly and causes a bad URL.
    If I type the encoded URL in IE's address bar it finds the HTML, displayes it and changes the address bar contents back to "C:\Program Files".
    FireFox doen't do this, and therefore works.
    Does anyone know if their is a patch for IE, or if there is another way to
    connect to JBoss?
    How frustrating!! IE Stuffs up the encoded URLS!!!

  • Error 8 occurred when building an executable due to file permission error?

    I received this error on executable builds from two different .vis.  Other .vis in the project build without incident and the message below doesn't seem to indicate the file that is causing the problem, unless it is the SPT-errors.txt file listed at the end of the error message.

    Hi DanielAllis,
    Like mentioned earlier, there is most likely an application on the internet that you can find and use where you can see what processes are calling specific files or folders to see if that specific file is being used by anything else.  It doesn't sound like this is the root of your problem, but it couldn't hurt to check.  Also, I have seen a similar problem to this with someone who was using the software Subversion and Tortoise with their application.  I am not familiar with this software in particular, but I have attached a link below that goes through the steps that this other person took to try and fix the same error when having this software on their computer.  Let me know if any of this helps!

  • Epson Artisan 810 gives error when prints from 10.6.2

    I know that Epson update 2.2 was released for 10.6.1. But it doesn't seem to help when printing from any application with 10.6.2. Should I downgrade back to 10.6.1? I have an Artisan 810 that won't print from 10.6.1 on a MacBook Pro that came out in September of 2009. It will print a sample page from the utility, and run the print head cleaning utilities, but won't print a document. It makes some indication that it can't deal with a postscript file in the error in the print queue the moment I send a print job from Neo Office or Safari. I'm connected via USB. Eventually I'd like to figure out how to add it to my Time Capsule's 802.11n network if possible. But first let's get it working under USB.

    I just went through this and seriously considered publishing the directions so I reckon this is my chance.
    When all was said and done, I only used the Epson utility to remove all of the installed Epson software, did not use any drivers as provided by them, including the already installed Photo R280 drivers for my other printer, and started over.
    Once done, I used the OSX Print & Fax System Preference to install the 810 as a new printer and let Software Update do its thing. It seems to load and install everything needed to make the thing work. Most of the Epson stuff seems useless and I find that the OSX Image Capture utility does a great job of running the scanner part.
    The most important thing I learned is that the directions and utilities as provided by Epson are not very helpful. The network setup utility they provide doesn't work at all on a Mac and looks exactly like the Windows XP version. I got very frustrated and simply accessed the menus myself on the 810's control panel and joined it with the wireless network manually. It was way easier and less frustrating then trying to get the Epson junkware working.
    As an aside, there are a kajillion little plastic thingies that can break and cause problems in this thing. Make sure to register it and get the free extended warranty
    Other than the installation pains this has turned out to be a pretty incredible little device. I already have a great scanner and an adequate photo printer, but I needed a fax modem, and for about the same price as the modem I ended up with a lot of other functionality as well.
    You can always page me in the lounge if you need any further input.

  • I am trying to install current Firefox 3.6, as I am currently running an older Firefox on my Windows ME, but I keep getting this error message: "Setup has caused an error in SETUP.EXE Setup will now close."--Please help?

    I have downloaded all IP changer Privacy software I have purchased and am trying to install it, and although it is made to work with WindowsME that I am currently using on my computer, it now says it requires Firefox 3 or above to be able to install the software. Therefore, I am trying to update my Firefox to current 3.6 but once Firefox 3.6 downloads it doesn't install. Instead I just keep getting the same error message: Setup has caused an error in SETUP.EXE. Set up will now close. Several times, I have also tried restarting the computer as the error message also recommended But I just still keep getting the same error message when I try to update/install Firefox 3.5. Please help/advise on how I can fix this problem. Many thanks in advance!

    Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever version of Firefox for Win98 / SE / ME.
    You can get it from here, but you are better off using K-Meleon (derived from Firefox) or Opera instead an old version of Firefox:
    [ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/win32/en-US/]
    You can try KernelEx to get Firefox 3+ to work, but it would be very slow with an old PC of less than 750Mhz. 3.5 and later supposedly doesn't work.

  • There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection..

    hello,
    there has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost.
    this is the error my client gets sometimes when he wants to save a word document.
    when i go in the finder i have no problem accessing that network share, and when i look up the file and check the permissions there is no reason why this error should occure.
    situation :
    1 os 10.3.9 server
    7 os 10.5.5 clients
    1 os 10.3.9 client
    office 2004 for mac (version 11.50)
    there are 2 10.5.5 clients (emacs) with this problem on a regular base (3-5 times a week). One imac 17" 10.5.5 has this once a month.
    it is a wired cat5 network.
    any idea what could cause this problem?
    thanks
    Marco

    I found a logical explanation on the following site : http://www.makemacwork.com/office-2004-wont-save-to-server.htm , I am gonna try the steps they describe and post back the result.

  • After installing 10.7.2 from scratch, permission errors remain

    Hey, this is a summery of what have happened:
    1. upgraded to Lion from SL (via AppStore)
    2. have played with 'get info' > 'apply to all enclosed items'  :/
    3. things have gone messy, slow, permission errors. example:
    (Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.)
    4. booted from DVD of Lion dmg.
    then, formatted and performed a clean install.
    (backed up to a new disk image with CCC, just in case)
    5. Notice that I did not copy anything or downloaded/installed a single file/application yet.
    after the so called 'clean' install, I've ran the disk utility to verify permissions again (both from DVD and from cmd+R - recovery partition).
    still I get the warning about ARDAgent, still verifying and repairing permission takes 2-3 minutes. with only the OS X installed on HDD.
    6. Got this advice from several boards:
    Open Terminal as an admin user.
    type in the following:
    sudo chmod -RN ~
    you will have to authenticate with a non-blank password.
    then follow the steps of resetting the ACLs.
    I have done this, and got: Failed to clear ACL on file ubiquity.socket: Invalid argument
    Then, booted from DVD, in terminal typed: 'resetpassword' and chose the HDD and "user" and clicked on 'reset password and ACLs'.
    restarted, Spotlight did index againg.
    7. still permission errors, so I didn't copy anything back yet, waiting for help to get the right way or restoring to default/formatting again.
    My questions are:
    1. Did I do everything right? Is it possible to perform a clean install from the DVD that I made?
    2. If so, shouldn't it cancel all the ACLs problems and reset them to the default?
    3. Is there a way to make a real 100% clean install of 10.7.2, with erasing even the recovery partition (if it has to do with ACLs)?
    4. if and when this will be solved, I will need to copy back my files and folders from external FW800 WesternDigital,
    will I need to reset their permissions too somehow? It could cause more problems with the ACLs.
    thank you very much.

    baltwo,
    I have a lion clone. so I guess there is no reason to install lion upon it's own clone.
    anyways, how is it possible that after the complete format, the ACL problem remains.
    what about removing the recovery partition.
    the reason I want it to be done is to get rid of the problems I had with the new installation, tham I'm afraid will not be fixed otherwise: crashing apple applications (safari quitted unexpectedly), slow performance, computer freezes, GUI lags (copying 138 items to another folder stucks and I have to relounch finder) and other animation bugs at almost everywhere on the system.
    restoring lion clone and turning on the time machine sounds like the last option right now...
    and I'll be happy to hear opinions about what to do with the backed up data on the external hdd permissions.

  • Desktop software causes Windows 7 to crash

    I have been using Desktop Software for ages now, very successfully on the Windows XP Pro platform.  I have now changed to Windows 7 Pro.  Although I have downloaded and installed the latest Desktop software build, which is supposed to be Windows 7-compatible, it is certainly not on my machine.
    What happens is this:  When I first install the Desktop software, and start it, and use it to sync with Outlook, it works fine.  Eventually of course I shut down the computer at the end of the session.
    The problem occurs when I next trry to boot up.  Every time I do this I get a blue screen crash long before any welcome screen appears.  The blue screen doesn't last long enough for me to read what it says but the effect is clear - no boot until a repair of some sort is done.  I have found that the only way to achieve a successful boot after this is to take the repair option and then the restore option to a time before installing the Blackberry Desktop software.
    This has happened so many times now, with other software and hardware being installed at different times perfectly successfully.  Only Blackberry Desktiop software causes these crashes.  I have gone through this process at least a dozen times now, all with exactly the same effect.
    Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

    ive recently run into this problem as well with windows 7 on my gf's pc. both got 9700 bold's mine worked out fine with vista, but her comppy wont boot. bout as far as i can get from school is to walk her through booting into safe mode to uninstall the bb app til i can get home lol.. kinda screwwy that i cant really find much useful information about it in the past hour or so
    about the only thing that has shown up was a 'problem signature 07' screen saying badpatch.. apparently no decent error code to lookup.. help!
