Unknown error 11556

my iPad shows "cannot connect to iTunes Store". My PC shows "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. An unknown error occured (11556). Make sure your network connection is active and try again.".
I think that it will be helpfull if there was an app that is able to find issues. This app makes log and forwards it securely to Apple Tech Team or generates a solution.

  • ITunes unknown error - 11556 - Please help

I just updated my iPhone to 2.0.2, and it said that now I can create ringtones from the music I purchased from iTunes. So after I right click on the song and select Create Ringtone, I get this unknown message saying I am not connected to the internet when in fact when I click on the iTunes Store, it connects.
    Has anybody noticed this issue?

i'm guessing you are getting the error message because, as far as i know, ringtones can only be purchased in the US.

    "Error 11556"
This alert occurs when iTunes is trying to do something not allowed by the iTunes Store in that country.
The most common example of this is trying to sign in while limited to iTunes U by Parental Controls.
For more information, see the steps from iTunes 9: "One Moment Please" or "Error (-50)" message when accessing iTunes Store.

I get this error also. It is getting quite annoying. I tried contacting support and this is what they sent me:
"First, make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. It can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes website:
    http://www.itunes.com/download
Certain types of software can cause conflicts and prevent iTunes from connecting to the iTunes Store properly, even if the software appears to be configured to allow iTunes access. This can include firewall, virus-protection, and web-acceleration software.
If the error message persists after you upgrade iTunes, you can pinpoint which software program is the source of the block in the connection by using the MSCONFIG utility on your computer. For detailed instructions, please refer to the following article:
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows Vista
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n305415
In addition, if you are connecting to the Internet via a local area network (LAN), your router might have firewall settings that may interfere with your downloads and produce this error message. I suggest removing the router from your computer's connection and then connecting your computer directly to your modem. For assistance with settings for your router or modem, you may need to contact the manufacturer.
When configuring the software on your computer to give iTunes access to the Internet, you'll need to allow the following domains :
    phobos.apple.com
    phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net
If you require more in-depth assistance, you may wish to consider calling Apple technical support. A representative will be able to tell you about Apple's complimentary and fee-based support options and can help you determine which option might be most helpful in this case. You can reach AppleCare technical support at 800-APL-CARE (800-275-2273). Help is available seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. central time. "
Didn't help me... maybe it will work for someone else.

IIIaass is right on the money! Specifically, please go to this page for error 11556 (in most cases, this should solve the error 11556): http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3288
It's that (I found this myself yesterday, after weeks of helplessness in solving the error 11556) whenever iTunes is updated, the Parental Controls in iTunes are, by default, set to 'enabled' mode! One needs to disable/unckeck this on the iTunes menu (under 'Edit' -->  'Preferences' -->  'Parental'). See the relevant discussion/thread here:https://discussions.apple.com/message/22473554#22473554

  • Unknown error in iTunes 11556.

I want to make a new ringtone but when I click on "create a Ringtone" I get a message "cannot connect to iTunes Store. Check your network connection and try again" a unknown error was found (11556)
    please help me

If you have any Norton software on your computer it is most likely blocking access to the store.
Go to your firewall settings, delete itunes, then allow it again.
Once you have saved the changes to your firewall you should be able to access the store. You may have to close itunes then reopen it.

itunes could not connect to the itunes store. an unknown error occurred (11556)

    Excellent it worked for me.
First I tunes was unable to update software so I removed then deleted installed program folder location after that properly performed clean installation for itunes64.
When tried to sign in received this message. Even restart the pc did not help.
    Your help was fruitful.

  • How do you fix the following error "itunes could not connect to the itunes store. an unknown error occurred 11556"?

I've tried the Advanced troubleshooting and eliminated the following "probable causes":  Internet connection and Firewall.  Any ideas?

    Error 11556:
This alert occurs when iTunes is trying to do something not allowed by the iTunes Store in that country.
The most common example of this is iPhone ringtone creation in a country other than the U.S. or trying to sign in while limited to iTunes U by Parental Controls.
If trying to create ringtones outside iTunes Store (U.S.), either switch to the iTunes Store (U.S.) and use an iTunes Store account for the U.S. or access the iTunes Store on an iPhone using iOS 3.1 or later to buy ringtones.

  • Error 11556

    hi
is itunes ringtones available in australia? its noted in itunes help that creating rintones can work in selected countries. i purchaseded itunes track & when i create ringtone from file i get error msg "itunes could not connect to the itunes store.an unknown error occurred (11556). make sure your network connection is active and try again." i ran diagnostics test in itunes help & no error was recorded. thanks

You may not succeed creating a ringtone directly from iTunes but in that same article is stated that it can be done by GarageBand witch was quite simple.
+"For information on how to use GarageBand 4.1.1 to export your original song, your original audio recordings, or use Apple Loops and iLife jingles to create a custom ringtone for your iPhone..."+
    Works just fine. ;-D

  • Trying to create ringtones, but error (11556) appears.

Trying to create ringtones on I-Tunes for I-phone, but when I select a track & go to create ringtones, creation option flashes up for around a second before being replaced by an error:-
"Itunes could not connect to the Itunes store. An unknown error occurred (11556). Please make sure your network connection is active & try again."
My internet connection works fine & I experiene no connection issues in any other part of the apple store, but non of my 2000+ Itunes has the bell icon next to it indicating a ringtone is creatable, even though the majority of tunes are purchased from Itunes.
    Any ideas?

So, this forum suggests it's an issue with iTunes in specific countries not yet supporting ringtone conversion due to copyright restrictions:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1372528
This forum backs that up in Australia:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7745727
And includes a link to this support document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1398
I'm having trouble determining for sure based off of your info on the forums, but, are you located in the US or elsewhere?

  • HT201263 my iphone 4 went into recovery mode & will not restore. Unknown error 21 comes up on iTunes. Please can someone offer any ideas for a solution?

I have an iphone 4 nearly 2 yrs old. It has worked perfectly for that time. On Friday last (whilst away on holiday) I took the phone out of my pocket & it was lifeless. I tried switching it on, no joy, I tried the power/home button reset no joy. I plugged it into a mains charger & it came on but had a banner across the screen saying "verification required". I removed the charger & decided I would try again when I got home so I could connect to my PC & iTunes.
At home I went through the whole above process again but when I plugged it into the mains again it just had the Apple logo going on/off repeatedly. I plugged the phone into my PC & the apple logo appeared followed by the "connect to iTunes". In iTunes I get the banner "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes". So I click on "OK" the "Restore" then a banner asking if I'm sure I want to restopre the iPhone appears, press "Restore & Update". iTunes starts to remove the software, veryfies it with Apple & then another flag "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21) which appears to be a security issue.
I thought the above problem was something to do with O2 because I picked up my new iPhone 4S last Tuesday but was unable to set it up until I got back from my holiday, O2 say it isn't anything they've done.
My question is has it happened to anyone & can anybody offer a solution, is it a hardware or software issue?
