Unknown Error -124.

Hello,
I've been experiencing problems after restoring my Ipod after getting sad Ipod and the folder with the exclamation mark.
I've got a 40Gb 4th Generation Ipod and was using Itunes 4.9 (just upgraded to the latest version to see if that helps).
After updating some songs I get error messages saying 'Error copying to Steven's Ipod. Unknown Error -124'.
Sorry I don't have the full error message but after updating Itunes I can't recreate it, but everytime it's occurred it's the same error number.
I've tried with both Firewire and USB ports and got the same error message.
Any ideas?
Any feedback is really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Steven

I had a similar error with my 30GB Video Ipod when attempting to download pictures. I discovered that having Outlook open as well as having the Ipod settings to update my Outlook calendar caused the error. Once I shut down Outlook, and removed the check mark on update Outlook Calendar (on the Ipod preference settings), the pictures downloaded without a problem.

  • Unknown error (-124) HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd had some troubles with my ipod software so I downloaded itunes again and the ipod worked perfectly, then midways it stopped and said "unknown error (-124)" and now, the computer won't recognize it. It's a 4G black ipod... I don't know if it makes a difference or not... but just in case...

Where were you on iTunes when it did this? Was it while the iPod was syncing?

  • Gets unknown error -124 when syncing the iPod

I get unknown error -124 when syncing my 80 gb iPod. I have had files which I could not copy to the iPod, so I removed them. So it's not that. And I have restored it back to its original settings before syncing now.
Any tips on how to resolve this?
    Thanks!

i am getting the same problem and the people at best buy could not even help me they it was my problem. and i bought two new hard drives and it still does it.

  • Recieved unknown error 124 message

This error message shows up basically telling me i cannot sync my ipod, and it turned everything on the ipod to junk data that i have to restore.
after substantial searching on google i discovered it may be a problem related to my update to the latest version of iTunes, and it is causing conflicts with windows.
It was also mentioned that downgrading to itunes 6 will solve the issue but i do not want to lose my library, playlists and podcast subscriptions.
    anyone have any suggestions?

I have a mini iPod and received the same error. Try following the 5R's. Beware, this means you will need to Restore your nano which will erase all stuff on it. If this doesn't work, try doing a 'chkdsk' and formatting the hard drive in disc mode. Unfortunately this didn't work for me and I contacted Apple phone support who indicated that is was a hardware problem (not software) and that I would need to send it in for repairs. The Apple technician hadn't heard of this error....but it seems to be a huge problem with the iPod and mini iPod series (as per the discussion board), I hope it isn't also occurring in the nano series. Sounds like no solution by Apple is in the works. Eventually my mini iPod died a few days later!!!

  • Dreaded "An unknown error occurred (-124)" problem

I've seen various posts on this and related topic, and have tried a few of the suggested solutions without success, so thought I'd post my version to see if anyone can suggest a way to fix this.
I have a 30GB video iPod that is about 2 years old. Up until recently, it was working fine. About a week ago I tried to sync it up with iTunes as I had some new music and it all went pear shaped.
Basically, it takes a few minutes to recognise that my iPod is connected, during which time I hear a few random "clicks" from the iPod (sounds very much like the noise the click wheel makes). On attempting to sync, it will get a few songs (usually somewhere between 5-20) before bombing out with the following error message:
"The iPod "[ipod name]" cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found"
I hit OK to this, and then shortly after I get the following message:
"Attempting to copy to the disc "[ipod name]" failed. An unknown error occurred (-124)"
At this point, the iPod resets itself (as if I had done a manual reset) and then will eventually come back to the main menu. iTunes then attempts to sync again, with a similar result. I've only ever let this happen about 3 times before disconnecting and trying various things (resetting iPod, turning PC off and on, using different USB port, charging iPod from my wall charger for an hour, etc, etc)
I can run the iPod in diagnostic mode without any problems. I have also reformatted my iPod, as well as downloaded V1.3 of iPod software and am running V7.5.0.20 of iTunes.
Some of the other posts on here seem to indicate this problem only occurs when syncing videos or photos, but I have neither - I'm just trying to sync my music.
To make it even more frustrating is that after doing all the things I can think of, at some seemingly random point my iPod will decide its had enough of ******* me off and will happily sync without incident. But this normally takes an hour of fruitless effort and increasing levels of frustration!! Oh, and yes - I have tried to be a bit systematic with my "try this, then try that" to see if I can stumble across the right sequence of events, but there doesn't appear to be anything that works consistently!!
Is it just me, or is Apple becoming more and more like Microsoft when it comes to product reliability???

As an update to this, I have just installed the latest version of iTunes (7.7), so I'm running all the latest iPod and iTunes versions...
...but I'm still having the same problem
Can anyone provide any insight into how to fix this???

  • An unknown error occurred (-124)

I cannot update my ipod whatsoever. I keep receiving "The iPod XXXX cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-124)." I have searched and searched but cannot find anything related to error (-124). I have a 4th gen iPod running software v3.1.1 and iTunes is v7.0.2.16. I seemed to start receiving the error after I updated my ipod a few weeks ago. I managed to manually bring songs across one at a time but it hangs when playing or skips through groups of songs, or plays 5-10 seconds of a song and then skips.
Any way to downgrade back to a lower version of iTunes?

  • I can't upload photos to facebook from iPhoto 11 (9.4.3) Message says :"An unknown error occurred, please try again later"

I have a new MacBook Pro 15" Retina with OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.3 (just did the combo update)
iPhoto 11 (9.4.3) is installed and freshly updated.
I used to share photos from iPhoto directly from my previous computer (a 2009 MacBook Pro running OSX Leopard).
It doesn't seem to work anymore on my new computer. When I try to connect to facebook, I keep having the same message :"An unknown error occurred, please try again later".
I am in China, where Facebook is blocked, but I have a VPN on (Astrill), simulating a connection from LA. I have no problem at all to access Facebook from Chrome, Safari and Skype.
I am sure that I am typing the right username and password.
I made sure iPhoto wasn't blocked in my facebook app settings.
I tried to delete the account, closing iPhoto and relaunching. It still does not work.
I tried to delete the com.apple.iphoto.plist from Library/Preferences (as suggested on another thread in this forum). It didn't do anything.
It is getting very frustrating and I really don't want to throw my new computer through the room. Anyone managed to solve this issue ?
    Thanks.

It is peculiar, that Chrome, Safari, and Skype can access FB, but not the iPhoto uploader.
Do you see any error messages/ diagnostics in the Console Window, when you try to connect to Facebook?
Launch a Console window from Applications > Utilities and clear the Console Window. Then try to upload. Are there any new messages?
And also launch a Terminal and have a look, if "facebook.com" is properly resolved:
    Type
    ping facebook.com
into the window. Do you see any transmissions? What is the IP address used?
    I see:

  • Unknown Error in XPath?!

    Hi.
I've been trying to use javax.xml.xpath.XPath to get a Node from a DOMSource. But with event the absolute simplest XPath expression //StaticComponent I get the following exception.
    Here's the code I'm using:
    XPath path = XPathFactory.newInstance().newXPath();
Node newnode = (NodeList) path.evaluate("//StaticComponent", source, XPathConstants.NODESET);(source is defined elsewhere in the program, and I am SURE that it is properly defined, because I use it for something else in the program too.)
The exception I get tells me NOTHING, and I can't why a simple expression won't evaluate. Has anybody run into this before?

  • My shuffle gen 3 has an error (-124)

When I sync it on Windows XP, a error message appearances:"apdate.exe-Driver not ready" then an other message is "the ipod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-124).Any solutions?

    Looking at TS 3694
Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.
Restore? Are you restoring from backup or as new?

  • Unknown error 13 while updating to 2.0.1

I was trying to update to firmware 2.0.1 on my iPhone 3G but while installing the update it gave an error "Unknown error 13". Now iTunes only gives the option to restore, but it fails in restore with the same "Unknown error (13)" message. Even after hard reset of phone it shows icon to connect to iTunes.
    Any advice ?
    Thanks,

I am changing a keynote to a ppt and a window drops down and says an unknown error occurred

  • HT201263 my iphone 4 went into recovery mode & will not restore. Unknown error 21 comes up on iTunes. Please can someone offer any ideas for a solution?

I have an iphone 4 nearly 2 yrs old. It has worked perfectly for that time. On Friday last (whilst away on holiday) I took the phone out of my pocket & it was lifeless. I tried switching it on, no joy, I tried the power/home button reset no joy. I plugged it into a mains charger & it came on but had a banner across the screen saying "verification required". I removed the charger & decided I would try again when I got home so I could connect to my PC & iTunes.
At home I went through the whole above process again but when I plugged it into the mains again it just had the Apple logo going on/off repeatedly. I plugged the phone into my PC & the apple logo appeared followed by the "connect to iTunes". In iTunes I get the banner "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes". So I click on "OK" the "Restore" then a banner asking if I'm sure I want to restopre the iPhone appears, press "Restore & Update". iTunes starts to remove the software, veryfies it with Apple & then another flag "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21) which appears to be a security issue.
I thought the above problem was something to do with O2 because I picked up my new iPhone 4S last Tuesday but was unable to set it up until I got back from my holiday, O2 say it isn't anything they've done.
My question is has it happened to anyone & can anybody offer a solution, is it a hardware or software issue?

  • Unknown Error during Recovery - iPad no longer Recognized by iTunes

I have a 3rd Generation iPad which I was attempting to perform a factory reset.  I received an "Unknown Error" during the process and from that point on I have been unable to get iTunes to recognize my iPad in recovery mode (or otherwise).
I have tried every thread on the subject, but I found one interesting thing.  If I connect the iPad with the same cable, etc. to another computer it immediately recognizes it in recovery mode and offers to restore the iPad.
It seems like my computer is not recognizing the iPad because it was in the process of restoring the device when the error occurred.  Does anyone know if there is a way to reset or fix this issue.  I would prefer not to update iTunes and download both the new iTunes and iPad software again and use another computer if it is not necessary.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hey KSHItunes,
That was a good test to try your iPad on another computer.  It does seem to isolate the issue to something with your computer setup.
Although you would prefer not to update iTunes, there may be steps in this article which can help.

  • Ipod no longer authorized (unknown error -42408)

posted this at itunes site as well.
out of blue, having problem i've never had syncing my 60G ipod.
for years have been syncing this ipod with my itunes on my macbook (only). for the past few times (?month or so), i'm getting an error message when i try to sync that first says, the ipod/macbook is not authorized for this ipod (which it always has been).
then it asks me if i want to authorize it. when i hit "authorize", it brings up an old itunes account i had and asks me for the old password, which i enter. then i get an error message that says:
"unknown error -42408. error in itunes store. please try again later."
how do i fix this so that i don't get this error message and can continue syncing with my most recent account, which has NEVER been a problem in the past?
    thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. My iPod is a 30GB one from 2005 or 2006 (I don't know how to identify its category). When it was new, I had a PC; then a year and a half ago I switched to a Mac and got everything transferred ok, and have been synching the iPod to the Mac with no trouble since then. (Well, slight trouble, because the iPod is now very full, and I haven't figured out the best way to synch "almost everything", but so far I'm managing somehow.) But just before leaving Moscow March 10, I wanted to synch and recharge the iPod, and got the same problem, with the same sequence of messages described at the start of this thread. So I only recharged it. Now I'm in Amherst, tried again, exact same problem. So now only recharging again.
Same computer, same iPod, why does it suddenly not recognize that this computer is authorized to synch this iPod, and why does it make this error when I tell it to authorize it? And how can I fix it?
    Grateful for any help.
    Barbara
