Unknown error (-15000)

im using airport extreme as a base station and two airport express units to send music around my house. they work fine individually, but try to connect to both at once and i get 'unknown error (-15000)' reported by itunes.
ive searched around, tried turning the ipv6 of in network settings as suggested elsewhere, but still no joy...
anyone got any bright ideas?

I have this same error reported often, but not every time, by iTunes. I have a TimeCapsule connected to the LAN, an AirportExpress(802.11n) in bridge mode to the TC (also serving as the AirTunes server), then an AirportExpress(802.11g) connected to the AEn via ethernet (because the fracking iPhone won't talk to the TC on 802.11n! The whole setup works occasionally, but then will flake out and stop working for no apparent reason. The only viable solution I have found so far is to UNPLUG everything (yes, it requires a HARD power cycle, not just a restart remotely - PITA!)
I have talked to Apple's entire hierarchy of tech support to no avail. Apple refuses to ever simply REPLACE defective merchandise, so I have now spent $100s on fuel, $1000s in wasted time, and $10,000s on Apple carp, and still don't have a working computer system. ALL components in this network are Apple, since "support" would stop speaking to me every time I even mentioned that there was a Netgear or D-Link ethernet switch anywhere within sight of an Apple device!
At this point my only bright idea is to stop buying Apple products.
I have another network that runs on generic computers running Linux, with various brands of routers and it has several YEARS of uptime without a hiccup.

• ITunes 9: Unknown error -15000 trying to stream to remote speakers

Some weeks ago, I started getting unknown error -15000 when I tried to stream music from my AEBSn to to remote speakers connected wirelessly to an AXn. I found Apple's iTunes 8 article on -15000, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2277, that blamed old firmware, but I am using the latest versions. I've tried pulling power on both wireless units and rebooted the Mac hosting the music but no luck. A search through the posts showed nothing promising. Has anyone else seen this error or have any suggestions? My versions are:
Mac OS 10.6.2
iTunes 9.0.3
AEBSn 7.4.2
AXn 7.4.2

• Itunes Airplay unknown error - 15000

Hi
i'm having trouble with ITunes 10.4.1.10 and my airport express.
It fails to connect saying an unknown error occurred (-15000)
i can "see" and configure the airport express from the pc, so there is no netwrok issue blocking the pc.
this is on a desktop pc running windows 7, it worked fine before i upgraded from itunes 10.1.1.4
and it does still work from a laptop running windows 7 starter using itunes 10.1.1.4
any ideas??
thanks in advance

I found this by "robinsf" on another thread and it's worked for me.
"Hi folks. This one has been bugging me since I upgraded to Itunes 10. But I started playing around in my firewall settings. I finally was able to allow UDP Port 6002 in my firewall and then scared myself to death when all my Airport Expresses in the house started blasting music. I'm using Windows Vista. In the Control Panel, I selected Security - Allow a program through Windows Firewall. In the Firewall Settings, I selected the Exceptions tab. I clicked "Add Port..." and added the following: Name: Itunes-AirportExpress (just so I could easily find the entry again if I needed to) Port Number: 6002 Protocol: UDP."

• AirTunes Unknown Error (-15000)

have been using airport express to stream music wirelessly from my itunes to my stereo for 7 months without a hitch and all of a sudden after updating to the latest version of iTunes this morning 8.2.1 I can no longer stream music through Airport Express - any idea why this is happening? Anyone else having this problem?
My firmware on my Airport Express is up-to-date and I completely reinstalled it as well.
What is error (-15000). This is a pain in the butt...any help welcome.

Ok, I can conform this on my machine, a MPB, where i was getting -15000 errors. When i connected my power adapter it worked fine.
This is the craziest bug i've yet to encoounter on a Mac ... how on earth laptop power and WiFi can be related i do not know.
Interestingly, I can connect to Airtunes speakers via ethernet on my laptop (to Wifi Airport Express) without power, but not via WiFi on my laptop.
I suspect the WiFi is going into some sort of power-saving mode that is somehow breaks the Airtunes stuff. Apple this ia a bug .. are you listening???
I'm on latest Airport Expreess firmware and 10.5.8

• Error occurred connecting to AirPlay device. unknown error -15000

Hello,
I had my remote speakers set up through my extended network of 2 airport expresses and it was working. I just downloaded iTunes 10.6.0.40 and now I get unkown error -15000, can't connect to remote speakers. I have Windows 7 pro.
I've tried quite a few things and can't seem to get things working again. Reverted one of the AirPort expresses to factory settings, turned off/on firewall...
Some guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Mike

Hey old topic but with the lastest itunes 10.6.11 i had the issue appear with an Apple TV3. My setup worked for months but all of a sudden they stopped connecting.
What solved it for me was Uninstall itunes and reinstall.
I had tried the firewall exceptions, bonjour Mdns service by pass, Itunes repair, disable the Bonjour rules and make an all allow regardless of location. All resulte in the same thing ..
Event log errors on windows 7 Ultimate.
Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(90D340741E88F7C2._appletv-v2._tcp.local.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network.
or
ERROR: handle_resolve_request bad interfaceIndex 23
All Generate by MDNS resolver.
FYI: Installing from apple itunes site installs 10.6 and not 10.6.xx which is newer/updated.

• HT4587 my itunes no longer connects to airport express. I get unknown error -15000

I have been using airplay for months, then out of the blue my itunes no longer connects to the AE. I can connect and stream music directly from an iphone or touch but not from my laptop. Please help

Well I uninstalled Comodo and turned on Windows firewall. I re-installed iTunes.
I went into firewall settings and iTunes was checked off (allowed) for both home & public networks. Didn't work. I saw Bonjour on there and just 'home' was checked off, so I checked off 'public' to see if it mattered.
It did work. iTunes connected to the remote speakers....but for some reason, only for a very short period, then I get a network error.
This is freaking unbelievable. It was all working fine till I stupidly updtated to 10. Grrrrrrrrr

• Keep getting error message unknown error -15000

Same as title

The concept is the same. By default, Windows 7 would have enabled its software firewall. Have you tried temporarily disabling it (or any third-party firewall/anti-virus program) to see if you can now stream iTunes?

• ITunes 10.1 An unknown error -15000 apple tv

This happens sll the time... From my 1st gen apple tv I can go to shared library and stream, but I cannot connect to remote speakers and stream from within iTunes 10.1 on OS X 10.6.4 or 10.6.5.
Router is 1st gen simultaneous dual band Airport Extreme with last firmware 7.4.2.
Are there settings on the computer or router that can facilitate this or is this just poor interoperability with an all apple devices network.
Why doesn't apple release a firmware update for the Airport express beyond 7.4.2 when it is obviously riddled with problems. Wifi connectivity is not where Apple shines, sadly. features are good but performance and reliability are not at all.
Anyone with similar problems find a "permanent fix" or do I have to just consider this feature a non existent feature, even though its the main reason for having an Apple TV (streaming media)!

try this:
go system preferences > network > airport > advanced > TCP/IP and set configure IPv6 to off. click on apply.
now have iTunes connect to the remote speaker again.
if that doesn't work, try changing the channel(s) you router broadcasts on.

• I had itunes played from my PC to my music system that is connected through a nework. It use to work fine, but now I get an error message that say "An error occured while connecting to the Airplay Device "Stereo". An unknown error occured (-15000)".

When trying to play itunes from my PC to my stereo connected to an Airport Express, I gen an error that says "An error occured while connecting to the Airplay device "Stereo" an unknown error occured (-15000)". This has happened before and for reasons unknown to me, the problem corrects itself, then it starts again/ Makes me wish I did not have my music on itunes.

moehadi, Welcome to the discussion area!
This is typically caused by a firewall or Internet security software running on your PC. Please read the comments in "Error -3256 or -15000 when streaming to AirPort Express base stations using iTunes".
Also there is "iTunes 8: Unknown error -15000 when attempting to stream music to devices connected to AirPort Express with AirTunes".

• Apple TV Air Tunes error -15000

Since I have installed iTunes 8 my apple tv has been acting very strange. Has anyone else noticed?
It seems to be slower, it has crashed once or twice, the last time it crashed It blew away all my content. I had to re-sync my photo's etc..
But my main gripe now is, I use it as an air tunes client, and that consistently doesn't work. I just get an Unknown error -150000
My Apple TV is connected directly to my netgear adsl wifi router with a cable, my iMac is a wifi client. I also have an air port express which works perfectly.
Can any one shine any light on my problem?
Many Thanks

I (and many others) have the same problem since updating to iTunes 8. There is nothing you can do about it, unfortunately. We'll have to wait for an iTunes update to have this problem fixed.

• HT204291 can see airplay icon but getting error -15000 after I updated to itunes 11.4

Airplay quit working after I updated itunes to v. 11.04. I can see the airplay icon in both the mini-player and home screen. It shows the device in the listings but when I select it I receive unknown error -15000. All was fine until the upgrade. I'm running Windows 7. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Hi Monie35,
The article below may be able to help you with this issue.
Click on the link below to see more details and screenshots.
I've quoted some helpful highlights for you:
Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
Verify that your AirPlay-enabled devices have the most up-to-date software or firmware.
Verify that your iOS device has Wi-Fi turned on. Enable Wi-Fi on your iOS device by going to Settings ]]> Wi-Fi.
Verify that all your AirPlay-enabled devices are logged on to the same home Wi-Fi network (check the home network names on your devices to confirm).
If trying to AirPlay, or AirPlay mirror, to your Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), ensure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV as well. You can enable or disable AirPlay on Apple TV in the AirPlay menu: Settings > AirPlay
Check Internet or network connectivity on all affected devices.
Temporarily disable firewalls (both network and local) and security software. Security software and firewalls may block ports that AirPlay uses to stream content. You can often resolve issues with security software by updating, correctly configuring, or uninstalling security software.
I hope this information helps ....
Have a great day!

• Error -15000

Hi there,
Does anyone know what unknown error -15000 is and what to do to resolve this?
When i open iTunes en try to listen to music using my airport express with airplay, i get an unknown error -15000 while connecting. I can see the airport express in iTunes and can also select it, but when i try to connect, the error occurs.
Other computers in my network use this airport express without any trouble.
The error occurs on my PC (windows vista 32 bit, 1gbps lan, no wifi), wich is connected with my Time capsule )bridge mode), wich is connected through wifi with my aiport express.
I also have a laptop using windows 7 witch uses the aiport express without any trouble using LAN (and wifi disabled) aswell as with WIFI. The airport express also works with my iPhone. My iphone remote app also works with my PC (on wich the error occurs).
I hope anybody knows what to do!
Thanx!
Gr. Ori
Ps. I'am dutch, so forgive me for my writing...

Worked for me!! Thank you!
Specifically the steps that fixed the problem for me on Windows 7 was:
Control Panel>System and Security>Windows Firewall>Advanced settings>Inbound Rules> Find the iTunes rules in the list, Right click>properties>On Protocols and Ports Tab, set 'Protocol Type' to: UDP (Mine was set to TCP and was causing the problem)
Check other iTunes rules and adjust as necessary.
Hope that helps! Not sure what changed to cause this problem but happy to have AirTunes up and running again!

• An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Apple TV". An unknown error occurred (-15000).

Hi ,
I acquired an Apple TV (Gen3) a couple of days ago.
The Apple TV seems to be connected properly to WIFI (Good signal)
I watched streaming videos on Youtube and film trailers – the speed is ok.
I followed the protocol but, still, I cannot connect Itunes to the Apple tv.
These are the error messages:
On the TV : apple tv could not connect to library
In Itunes: An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”. An unknown error occurred (-15000).
Please note that Apple TV doesn’t appear in the list of devices in Itune’s preferences menu.
The Home Share is enabled on both devices and I connected with the Same Apple ID on each device.
Airplay is on.
Ref Apple TV :
Apple tv: Model MD199HC/A
Serial number DY******RHN
apple tv software : 5.3(6105)
Imac: OS X version 10.8.4
I already tried to :
Unplug/plug modem and router
Test connectivity
Disable the Firewall
Re-enable the firewall with Itunes in the list of ‘allowed’ devices
Re-set Apple TV (3 times) + Up to date
Re-start Apple TV and computer several time
Itunes is up to date
Could you please help?
Many Thanks

Hi all,
Thanks for your comments.
In my knowledge, there isn't any security software active on my computer.
After re-setting my routeur several times, I finally swapped it against an Airport Time Capsule.
It solved the problem, however, I would be interested to know if a (less expensive) solution exists.
