Unknown error (2001)
I'm sorry if this question has been posted and answered before. I've been having problems with iTunes. At least i think it is ITunes because all of the iPods in my household seem not to be able to connect with iTunes. Anyways my problem: i downloaded the new update for my touch that lets me run apps. While installing the update iTunes suddenly stopped citing an unknown error. When i went to Restore and Update to get my touch running again, it gives me the unknown error (2001). So now currently i can not do anything with my touch because it will not restore. I have reinstalled itunes too many times, and still it does not help. And now currently my computer will not even recognize the device. Any help would be appreciated in getting my touch working again with the update.
Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.

Cannot Restore Unknown error 2001
iTunes says it cannot restore my iTunes and has an Unknown Error 2001. It all started after it failed the new update. Any ideas?
Hi amigos:
Same happen to me as soon as the new release (1.1.3). Sounds weird but the only think you have to do is plug and unplug your iPod 3 0r 4 times.
I can assure you that after 4 or 5 tries everything will be ok.
Why is happening that?
Think Apple sold so many iPod (4,000,000) and we are trying to get it at the same time, so they cant handle to manage all of them. Maybe there is not as much slot as they need for everyone to download the new version. Because you cant download the new release your iPod don't get the new software while the old one is deleted.
Believe me, try to plug/unplug 4 or 5 times at the problem will be solve. Or much better, just next time don't try to upgrade as soon as the new release is on iTunes and wait 1 week -

IPhone 5 stuck at recovery mode. Can't recover, unknown error (2001).
I've upgraded my 3GS to an iPhone 5 about 3 weeks back, and I was resonably happy with the 6.0.1 installed.
After upgrading to 6.0.2, the battery in my iPhone 5 began to drain and could only last for a maximum of 4-5 hours. I've tried it all, tweaking the settings to conserve power, even tried some solutions posted on other forums, restoring back to factory settings, doing a soft reset, hard reset, even tried redownloading the iOS 6.0.2 and I think the worst just happened ...
Battery died (cuz I'm out of power right.)
Charged it to Apple's USB power outlet.
Stuck at Apple boot logo, wouldn't proceed but instead it tries booting again, and again, and again....
So I tried a hard reset, and put it into DFU mode, hopefully it will be stable again after recovery.
Plug my iPhone back to my Mac OSX 10.8.2, iTunes tries to unpack the OS and attempts the restore...
Instead, it's now stuck at the recovery mode, and iTunes gives me, "The iPhone cannot be restored. an unknown error occured (2001)."
And then, the iPhone attempts to restart, goes back to connect to iTunes mode (DFU) and the cycle then repeat itself again.
Any of you guys having the same issue? I can't seem to find a fix anywhereI've sent it in to my local telco to get a replacement because I simply can't find another way around it.
Has anyone tried with the new iOS update to 6.1.0? Let me know if it works. I'm still waiting for a replacement from Maxis (Apple's Authorised iPhone after sales support here in Malaysia).
They have a stupid policy of waiting up to 2 weeks before I get a replacement. At the meantime, Maxis just expects me to be phone-less for 2 whole week although they have prepared back-up iPhone5 stocks for a 1on1 exchange. Their reason: Oh, we cannot read your IMEI no, we need to send it back to the distributor.
This frustrates and furiates me. Why can't Apple Malaysia be more professional about it like how it's done in U.S.?
Gahhhhhhhh.... -
After a drained battery I am forced to put my iPhone in Recovery mode. However when I am trying to restore using Mac, after the iPhone restart, iTunes says The iPhone "" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (2001).

HT201210 What is Unknown error 2001, iPhone could not be restored.
These error message is not listed in common issues for iPhone 4 trouble shooting. Does any one knows what is about, or any approach to solve this matter?
Close iTunes and unplug iphone
Search web and download the 2.2.1 ipsw file.
Go to device manager on PC and delete the USB option for Apple under the hardware options.
Reboot PC
Plug in iphone and wait for dreaded connection picture
hold power button and home button until apple logo appears
continue to hold home button and release power button until connection picture appears again
Your PC should now find the iphone in recovery mode
Now open iTunes and it will prompt you to restore
Hold the shift button on the keyboard and click the restore button at the same time
This will allow you to browse for the correct ipsw file
select the 2.2.1 file that you downloaded
your iphone will now restore
Once completed, you will need to resync
Now you are back to square one but at least have a phone that works
Now make an appt at the Genius Bar and make them update it for you

I want to get a free app and every time I try to get a free or paid app, it gives me this crap:
*We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (2001).*
There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.
Any possible way to fix this?

Message was edited by: JMJvoltageI had the same error. I found a solution on another forum that helped me.
Click on "sign in" at the top right of iTunes store
Fill in all the info and agree to the terms
Now it should work
I believe I perviously got the error because I mistakenly tried to download apps without having even signed in to iTunes properly.
The post I found is here:

I've been trying to fix my sister in law's ipad mini. When I plug the ipad mini into itunes it say's it needs to restore factory settings. When I do that, it tries to do it, but then says it can't because of an unknown error 2001. I've tried it over and over, unplugged it and plugged it back in, tried to restore numerous times and the same thing keeps coming up. It won't turn on and the screen just shows that I need to plug it into itunes.
Any help would be greatly appreciatedSee

If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you may be unable to update or restore.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use the USB cable that came with your device, or a different Apple USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port directly on your computer. Don't plug it into your keyboard.
Try a different computer.
If necessary, resolve any further issues with the USB connection, then with your security software.
If you're still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues by following the next section.
Check for hardware issues
Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.

The iphone could not be updated. An unknown error (occured 4005)
I have a problem with updating my iPhone 5 to IOS7. Everytime I go to update the iPhone to IOS7, I get this "The iphone could not be updated. An unknown error (occured 4005)" error. It stays stuck at "waiting for iphone" then the 4005 error pops up after like 10-15 minutes of "waiting for iphone".
Also it leaves my iPhone in the "connect to itunes" screen after the error pops up. And when I try turning the iphone on and off and restarting it, the iphone still stays stuck at the "connect to itunes" screen and I have to use software to unlock the phone so I can actually use my phone.
The screenshot of this problem is below. Someone help, my itunes is updated to the latest version as well.I've got a similar problem only mine says unknown error (2001). During the initial installation of this months update a USB cord plugging in the iTunes icon showed up on the screen. It stayed there for about 2 minutes and then the iPhone rebooted. It repeated this cycle more times then I can count. I'm happy to say that it is now working. But non the less I've been pretty frustrated with the iPhone and Leopard sometimes.
In response to a comment that it seems that every iTunes related software update seems buggy I would have to say that I agree. I've been using Macs since 1987 and I have to say that in past 3-4 years Apple has changed a lot. It's more popular then ever before. It's products are even more stylish and innovative then ever before. But the rising demand for Macs has forced Apple to cut corners it seems. In some ways Apple products aren't what they used to be. -
I dropped my iPhone in water yesterday night. I immediately turned it off and put it in rice for the rest of the night. This morning I tried turning it on and it told me to connect to itunes for a restore and update. When I tried, I got unknown error (2001). I was wondering what that was?

Could also be that the water fried the phone....
