Unknown Error 4010

After last iTunes update, I am now getting popup with Uknown Error 4010 about 1-2 times PER HOUR. DId not start until a few days ago after last update. I am sick of this.

Is anothing else mentioned in when you see this error?  Perhaps Match (I presume you would have told us this at the start, but just in case...)?

  • Anyone getting an unknown error 4010 when launching iTunes Match?

Never had any problems with iTunes Match until the last week.  Now whenever I open iTunes and Match starts to update it gets stuck once it starts "sending data to apple."  A warning pops up and says "unknown error 4010."  I also downloaded an album and when I synced it to my iPhone all the songs were on there twice.  Never had any problems with Apple or iTunes before, but lately I've had nothing but frustrations.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steven

Unfortunately getting the same problem as yourself although I've just purchased Itunes Match yesterday and haven't even seen it work. Wondering if i have just wasted my money! I've tried the option/turn off itunes match but even that doesnt work. wondering if I just need to give it a bit more time.

  • ITunes Genius Unknown error 4010

I'm a bit tired of this issue which appears to be unresolved problem with iTunes Genius since September 2008. First my updates would get hung up on an iTunes error 4002. After seeing that the fix for this was to turn genius off and then back on, I started getting an Unknown error 4010. There seems to be no consistent fix for this and no word for Apple on what to do. Since the fixes seem so varied, I wonder if this is really an issue on the client end or is this a server issue?
I have deleted the .itdb files and that doesn't help - it just gets hung up longer before failing. Can someone provide an answer on how to fix (or whether or not it can be fixed).

Unfortunately Validator did not work for me.
    It gave errors:
    perl(13975) malloc: * vm_allocate(size=1069056) failed (error code=3)
    perl(13975) malloc: * error: can't allocate region
perl(13975) malloc: * set a breakpoint in szone_error to debug
    perl(13975) malloc: * vm_allocate(size=1069056) failed (error code=3)

    Out of memory!
Apparently it ran out of memory! I have 4GB. perhaps my .xml file is just too big (it is 273 MB). I tried an online xml validator, and it also chocked with a file this big. Maybe that is the problem apple is having as well.

  • What is error unknown error 4010?

Whenever i open iTunes i get a message that pops up reading (along the lines of) could not connect to the iTunes Store due to unknown error 4010.
What does 4010 mean? I submitted a report to Apple about it but haven't heard back. It seems to have something to do with iTunes Match.
Does anyone else have this issue?
    Im using OS X 10.8.2
    and iTunes 10.7

You may be using the wrong ID.  The ID you use with iTunes match should be your store ID, the one you built your iTunes library with.  Thus if your store ID is different than your iCloud ID you should use your store ID for iTunes match and not your iCloud ID for iTunes match.  In order to get your iTunes store ID assigned to iTunes match you must be logged into iTunes under your store ID when you buy iTunes match.
I have a situation where I have two IDs, one for iCloud and one for store.  My iCloud ID came from my old Mobile Me account, which was not the same as my store ID.  This arrangement works fine, though, because there are two different places to input IDs into your IOS5 devices.  Put your iCloud ID in the iCloud section and put the store and iTunes match ID in the store location.
Its confusing to people because you use your iTunes store ID for itunes match even though the music is stored in iCloud.  Some may naturally think you use the iCloud ID for iTunes match but that is only true for people that only use one ID for everything.

  • ITunes Match Unknown Error (4010)

Does anyone know how to solve the "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (4010.)" when trying to set up iTunes Match? It almost went through once but froze at step 3. Now I'm just getting this error above at the end of step 1.
I currently only can see maybe 2/3rds of my iTunes library in the cloud. Some appear to be matches, some are uploads, however not everything is up there. I've tried restarting the match process to no success.
I've e-mailed apple, but the e-mail I got back directed me to these forums.
    - I've checked the xml file and it appears to be fine
    - I've turned off all other iOS devices/AppleTV
    - I've checked for 'dead songs'
    - Tried looking for a weird 'square' in my meta tags
    - There are songs waiting to upload, but don't. (meet all requirements like being over 96k bit rate, etc.)
If the answer has been posted somewhere on here, please let me know. I feel I've done a fairly thourough search on here but unfortunately have not found any solutions yet.
    Thanks,
    -Mike

    I'm having the same problem.
I started the iTunes Match process on Monday and everything started off with smooth sailing. Over 11,000 songs were matched and the other 4,000 were being uploaded into the cloud. Sometime Wednesday night, iTunes crashed unexpectedly and I have been getting the 4010 error ever since. I had 2,000 songs left to upload into the cloud.
    I've:
    - Ran Software Update.
    - Repaired Disk Permissions.
    - Reset PRAM & SMC.
    - Reinstalled iTunes.
    - Checked for Dead Tracks.
    - Validated the XML file the iTunes Library resides in.
    - Re-created the XML file for the iTunes Library.
    - Wiped my entire iTunes library.
I'm still getting that darn 4010 error the moment Step 1 is about to complete.
I've sent off two very detailed emails to iTunes and this is the first response I got back:
"I understand that your iTunes Match has stopped working for your account. I know you must be eager to have this taken care of. I am so sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. My name is John from the iTunes Store and I will do my best to help you.
Apple's engineers are currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.
Thank you so much for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.
    Have a great day."
So, um, it looks like there's no fix at the moment.

  • ITunes 8.0 - Genius - unknown error 4010

iTunes 8.0 gathers data about my music library well enough and sends it to Apple too; but then 10-15 seconds into "processing" by Apple, iTunes stops and reports that "Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occurred (4010)." I thought it might be overloaded servers and tried several more times in the hope of squeezing my request in between those of everyone else; but that didn't work; plus if it were a server issue I'd expect to see postings here from others with the same problems, and I'm not.
Any thoughts about what the problem might be?

Guys, I have tried to perform a little troubleshooting on my end: I was running a Leopard-capable hacked version of Volume Logic on the laptop. Concerned this might contribute to the problem. I removed the plugin, rebooted, and reattempted and no luck; still a no go.
Also as the iTunes library is on an external drive on my laptop, I attempted to upgraded to iTunes 8 on the desktop. This computer has the library on an internal drive. I have the same error: "Waiting for apple to process the information" it times out or just gives up and gives the 4010 error after ~15 secs.
    FWIW,
    Trey

  • Genius unknown error occurred (4010)

Every time I try and use the genius feature on itunes 8 the following error is displayed.
'Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occurred (4010). Please try again later'
Having read loads of other posts with this same issue the majority of people suggest that it's down to server overload. I've now tried this at all times of the day and night and I keep getting the same error message!
    Any ideas?

I have the same problem. Never had a problem with Genius before, and now it just started happening. Any info would be great.
I checked if my Library.xml file was valid (using Validator), and it says it was. So I can't even use the "fixes" that were mentioned on the boards.

  • ITunes Match error 4010 remaining library will not upload

After setting up iTunes Match for the first time much of my 20k track library was successfully uploaded to iCloud. Toward the end of the syncing process with approximately 2000 tracks left to upload I received the following error:
"We could not complete your iTunes Store Request. An unknown error occurred (4010). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."
Since, my library has not been able to upload the remaining tracks, and all of the four Macs that I am attempting to sync with Match now receive the error each time they attempt to sync which is usually when I start iTunes. This issue has been occurring for the last 3 days now until this morning in which a completely new complication has arisen. Now when I view my library at work (I can not confirm if this issue is occurring on my other Macs at the moment) All of my tracks have the status of either Waiting or Not Eligible. The playlists that I created to track the status of iCloud are empty except for the one that looks for all other statuses other than the primary four that are available to build playlists with. All 18,323 tracks that were able to upload initially before the error started happening are in this playlist now but are no longer showing as Matched or Uploaded, just Waiting or Not Eligible.
I've refrained from turning on iTunes Match on any of my iOS devices until this issue is resolved.

I had this error a few days ago - after about an hour, it "fixed itself".  I believe that their server end is either overloaded at times, or they are doing maintenance of some kind and are not informing us.  Best guess, here.
I would suggest trying again in an hour or two - if it continues, give them a call just to log the problem.    I plan to call them every single time its down because, if I need to esclate at some point, I want them to see the whole history of the problems I've had.

  • What is iTunes Match error 4010?

I did a "OPTION+CLICK" on iTunes and created a blank library...
Enabled iTunes Match and it's still stuck on 1st step of iTunes Match procedure.
    It errors out with this:
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (4010)."?
    What is wrong?

You may be using the wrong ID.  The ID you use with iTunes match should be your store ID, the one you built your iTunes library with.  Thus if your store ID is different than your iCloud ID you should use your store ID for iTunes match and not your iCloud ID for iTunes match.  In order to get your iTunes store ID assigned to iTunes match you must be logged into iTunes under your store ID when you buy iTunes match.

  • HT201263 my iphone 4 went into recovery mode & will not restore. Unknown error 21 comes up on iTunes. Please can someone offer any ideas for a solution?

I have an iphone 4 nearly 2 yrs old. It has worked perfectly for that time. On Friday last (whilst away on holiday) I took the phone out of my pocket & it was lifeless. I tried switching it on, no joy, I tried the power/home button reset no joy. I plugged it into a mains charger & it came on but had a banner across the screen saying "verification required". I removed the charger & decided I would try again when I got home so I could connect to my PC & iTunes.
At home I went through the whole above process again but when I plugged it into the mains again it just had the Apple logo going on/off repeatedly. I plugged the phone into my PC & the apple logo appeared followed by the "connect to iTunes". In iTunes I get the banner "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes". So I click on "OK" the "Restore" then a banner asking if I'm sure I want to restopre the iPhone appears, press "Restore & Update". iTunes starts to remove the software, veryfies it with Apple & then another flag "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21) which appears to be a security issue.
I thought the above problem was something to do with O2 because I picked up my new iPhone 4S last Tuesday but was unable to set it up until I got back from my holiday, O2 say it isn't anything they've done.
My question is has it happened to anyone & can anybody offer a solution, is it a hardware or software issue?

  • Unknown Error during Recovery - iPad no longer Recognized by iTunes

I have a 3rd Generation iPad which I was attempting to perform a factory reset.  I received an "Unknown Error" during the process and from that point on I have been unable to get iTunes to recognize my iPad in recovery mode (or otherwise).
I have tried every thread on the subject, but I found one interesting thing.  If I connect the iPad with the same cable, etc. to another computer it immediately recognizes it in recovery mode and offers to restore the iPad.
It seems like my computer is not recognizing the iPad because it was in the process of restoring the device when the error occurred.  Does anyone know if there is a way to reset or fix this issue.  I would prefer not to update iTunes and download both the new iTunes and iPad software again and use another computer if it is not necessary.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hey KSHItunes,
That was a good test to try your iPad on another computer.  It does seem to isolate the issue to something with your computer setup.
Although you would prefer not to update iTunes, there may be steps in this article which can help.

  • Ipod no longer authorized (unknown error -42408)

posted this at itunes site as well.
out of blue, having problem i've never had syncing my 60G ipod.
for years have been syncing this ipod with my itunes on my macbook (only). for the past few times (?month or so), i'm getting an error message when i try to sync that first says, the ipod/macbook is not authorized for this ipod (which it always has been).
then it asks me if i want to authorize it. when i hit "authorize", it brings up an old itunes account i had and asks me for the old password, which i enter. then i get an error message that says:
"unknown error -42408. error in itunes store. please try again later."
how do i fix this so that i don't get this error message and can continue syncing with my most recent account, which has NEVER been a problem in the past?
    thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. My iPod is a 30GB one from 2005 or 2006 (I don't know how to identify its category). When it was new, I had a PC; then a year and a half ago I switched to a Mac and got everything transferred ok, and have been synching the iPod to the Mac with no trouble since then. (Well, slight trouble, because the iPod is now very full, and I haven't figured out the best way to synch "almost everything", but so far I'm managing somehow.) But just before leaving Moscow March 10, I wanted to synch and recharge the iPod, and got the same problem, with the same sequence of messages described at the start of this thread. So I only recharged it. Now I'm in Amherst, tried again, exact same problem. So now only recharging again.
Same computer, same iPod, why does it suddenly not recognize that this computer is authorized to synch this iPod, and why does it make this error when I tell it to authorize it? And how can I fix it?
    Grateful for any help.
    Barbara
