  • Dreaded Unknown Error 4261

I have just downloaded the latest itunes, and whenever I attempt to burn a disc, the program runs through the entire playlist, and then, instead of finalizing, cancels the burn and displays "Unable to Complete Burn. Unknown Error Number 4261." It is absolutely maddening! I have tried everything, including the free download "RegCure", and nothing has worked! I can still download my stuff in Windows Media player, but 99.8% is in iTunes---and I don't like coming to the office just to listen to music---its inconvenient. Has anyone had any luck defeating this monster---its obviously an iTunes problem with Windows.

I'm hoping that someone from iTunes regularly looks through these, or someone from Dell, or just someone period. Here are the diagnostics from my burner. The only thing I have not tried is uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, because I don't know how to do that and not lose the music I've purchased.

hmmm. is there any particular reason why you don't have XP Service Pack 2 installed, Mike?
if not, i'd try installing that to see if it helps. (automatic updates from Windows Update also now require SP2, so, it would be worth also picking up any other updates you might have fallen behind on.)

  • Cannot burn CDs - Error 4261

So the deal is that I used to be able to burn with this cmputer fine using itunes. All of a sudden, it stopped being able to burn, giving me an unknown error (4261). I thought this was because I updated to version 6, so i installed version 5. I still cannot burn anything. I have tried to find firmware and I don't think there are any files available for me to download. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, I sincerely appreciate your help. Thanks!

  • CD Burn Error 4261

I bought a new computer, now I can't burn CDs. When I had this problem before, I fixed it by slowing the burn rate. That hasn't worked this time. • Error 4261 and 4280

Help!!! I've been able to burn cd's in the past and only recently it keeps failing. The error message I get is "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred 4280." and the same message with 4261. Help!!!!!!!

In response to error 4261:The attempt to burn a disk failed. An unknown error occured (4261)
This error means that the file is in m4p format. That is an add on Apple tags to music to make sure you can only play it on certain computers. The bypass this, simply go to http://www.m4p-mp3-converter.com/ and download the free converter. It changes the format from m4p to mp3 so that you can burn and transfer to an mp3 portable if you don't have an Ipod. I spent 3 hours searching for this helpful hint, and found it in Apples archives. However--when the music is converted make sure you save the newly converted mp3 files to a location you can find. I saved them to mymusic. I could not find them. I have to go to mycomputer-C drive-mymusic file. If you save it to mymusic-that is how you locate the file with XP. Have fun--Oh- the trial is only for 14days. So convert as much music as possible. Also, after converting 3 songs to the new format, a screen pops up reminding you that you have the trial version. This is annoying, you have to click ok every three songs to continue the process. So if you have tons of songs, stay near your computer. Hope this helps you. Took me 2wks to figure it out-lol.

  • Error 4261 in i tunes

After successfully burning CDs for the car for 4 years I now get error 4261. I have tried different manufactures of CDs, I have tried slowing the burning rate. I have restored my comp to a point I was last successful. I did try to download the latest i tunes but as I only have dial up it was going to take 18 hours so I cancelled it! At roughly the same time I logged onto the i tunes website to get the playlist to my latest cd. (I usually type it all in myself). I have now run out of ideas. I am also unable to use Sonic or Windows media to burn cds or even back up my work since this error occurred. Any help gratefully received.

  • Cannot burn audio CD - Error 4261

Please help. I downloaded the new version of iTunes & now I can't burn CDs. I had no problem before.
When I try to burn I get the error "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred. (4261)."
How do I tell what this error means?

According to Toonz, 4261 is "Track following error"
Top fixes for any burn issue in iTUnes is...
    1) Goto the PC makers site and manually look for updates for your PC, especailly BIOs and chipset/IDE controller updates and firmware updates for the CD ROM (If it came with your PC when you bought it)
    2) Slow the burn speed from "Max" to something like 12x 8x or 4x. you do this by going to edit>preferences>advanced tab>burn sub tab
    3) Try a different brand or type of Blank CD
You can also goto Help>run CD diagnostic and copy/paste the whole report here (So we can help you) and on apples site here (So they recieve feedback about the issue and help them build a better CD burn engine in future versions of iTunes) http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/cddiagnostics/

  • I can't burn cd's with windows and get error 4261

Until yesterday I had no problem burning cd's with my iTunes-program in my Windows. All of a sudden (apparently) I constantley get the error-message 4261 having an unknown error. It seems that the problem has nothing to do with the selected tracks of the playlist. Often the burning is almost ready but then it stops sending a 4261.
What am I doing wrong and/or how can this problem been solved?

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

  • HT201263 my iphone 4 went into recovery mode & will not restore. Unknown error 21 comes up on iTunes. Please can someone offer any ideas for a solution?

I have an iphone 4 nearly 2 yrs old. It has worked perfectly for that time. On Friday last (whilst away on holiday) I took the phone out of my pocket & it was lifeless. I tried switching it on, no joy, I tried the power/home button reset no joy. I plugged it into a mains charger & it came on but had a banner across the screen saying "verification required". I removed the charger & decided I would try again when I got home so I could connect to my PC & iTunes.
At home I went through the whole above process again but when I plugged it into the mains again it just had the Apple logo going on/off repeatedly. I plugged the phone into my PC & the apple logo appeared followed by the "connect to iTunes". In iTunes I get the banner "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes". So I click on "OK" the "Restore" then a banner asking if I'm sure I want to restopre the iPhone appears, press "Restore & Update". iTunes starts to remove the software, veryfies it with Apple & then another flag "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21) which appears to be a security issue.
I thought the above problem was something to do with O2 because I picked up my new iPhone 4S last Tuesday but was unable to set it up until I got back from my holiday, O2 say it isn't anything they've done.
My question is has it happened to anyone & can anybody offer a solution, is it a hardware or software issue?

  • Unknown Error during Recovery - iPad no longer Recognized by iTunes

I have a 3rd Generation iPad which I was attempting to perform a factory reset.  I received an "Unknown Error" during the process and from that point on I have been unable to get iTunes to recognize my iPad in recovery mode (or otherwise).
I have tried every thread on the subject, but I found one interesting thing.  If I connect the iPad with the same cable, etc. to another computer it immediately recognizes it in recovery mode and offers to restore the iPad.
It seems like my computer is not recognizing the iPad because it was in the process of restoring the device when the error occurred.  Does anyone know if there is a way to reset or fix this issue.  I would prefer not to update iTunes and download both the new iTunes and iPad software again and use another computer if it is not necessary.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hey KSHItunes,
That was a good test to try your iPad on another computer.  It does seem to isolate the issue to something with your computer setup.
Although you would prefer not to update iTunes, there may be steps in this article which can help.
