Unknown error (-50), ipod won't save sync options
OK, I'm having one **** of a problem. The error message reads (-50) "an unkown error has occoured" apple support has been on no help so far...
Basically every time I try to save new settings in itunes and hit apply this message comes up, and then another "ipod cannot be updated disk cannot be read or written to" itunes freezes up then an "unkonwn error has occoured (-50)" error message a minute later.
Then when I reconnect it it says that no folders to download has been saved. I've tried to "enable disk usage" but that dosen't save.
This problem was temporaily eleviated when I downloaded 1.0.2 but then when I had to reset my ipod because it froze up, it wouldn't function agian. Just when I thought I had the problem solved. The same ** frustrating cycle.
I thought maybe downloading 1.0.2 agian would help but it reads that is already downloaded.
I'm stumped guys, please help.

I tried dragging songs onto my iPod but it keeps saying the error message from above. I've looked at other threads and tried what they say but the thing is that I manually sync my iPod, rather than having the settings for iTunes to sync it for me turned on. Also, I really don't want to restore my iPod because a majority of my apps and songs aren't on iTunes, only on my iPod, since my computer completely crashed a couple weeks ago. Please help, do you have any suggestions that dont involve me restoring my iPod?

Unknown error (-208) iPod won't update in iTunes, HELP!
Yeah, that error comes up when ever I try to update my iPod. It only started hapening today and I need to update because I'm going somewhere boaring and I need my new videos/music!
Can some one please tell me why this is happening and how to fix it!?
I still have plenty of room and I am running new versions of Mac OS X, iTunes and my iPod is up to date. The error code could mean that you 'iTunes Library' file is corrupted.
I haven't heard about this error code in conjunction with the iPod, only know this article:
iTunes: "Error -208 Cannot Open iTunes Music Library" Alert
Try the 5 R's first.
If that leads to nothing, you may have to rebuild your library as mentioned in this article:
How to recreate your iTunes Library
Hope this helps.

Unknown Error (-48) when I try to sync my iPod
I have started to get an Unknown Error (-48) when I try to sync my iPod to my iTunes music Library, this problem only occurred when I upgraded to iTunes 7 and upgraded to the latest version of the iPod software.
Any suggestions? At the moment there seems to be no permanent fix for this. This is the workaround I'm currently using until a fix comes along.
Set up iTunes "not" to open when you connect the iPod.
Enable Disk Use on the iPod
Eject the iPod and shut down iTunes
Reconnect the iPod and open Disk Utility
Click on your iPod in the Utility pane and choose Repair Disk which will find and fix a number of errors.
Close Disk Utility and open iTunes and your iPod should connect and update as usual.
Keep the settings above and each time you connect the iPod to update it run Disk Utility repair as above before opening iTunes. It's far from being a acceptable answer but until a permanent one comes along I've found that it works for me. I've tried the Apple advice of erasing the iPod in Disk Utility and restoring it in iTunes but found it only worked for a while before the error came back. -
I cant re-store my iPhone through the iTunes. Message which comes up says' the iPhonw could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21). i tried all the options and nothing seems working. please help
Hi chiekoo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#error21
Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
Best of luck,

IPod classic 80gb mb1477ll unknown error 53/50 when trying to sync?
So I have a 80gb ipod mb1477ll, and when I try to sync I get a couple hundred songs done and I get a "song title" cannot be be transferred because of an unknown error 53 or sometimes 50. I also sometimes get a "users" ipod failed because disk is not available. After I exit those dialogs it just sits there forever and says finishing sync do not disconnect at the top of iTunes. My wife's ipod 120gb classic same gen, I think works just fine with the same USB port and cable. I've been seeing that I probably need a new HDD for the ipod? What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article outlines a potential solution to your issue. While the article was originally written for Windows XP, most steps should still apply to your operating system:

Error Message= iPod won't Sync with iTunes
I have an 3rd generation iPod and lately I have been getting an error message that says "The iPod DN5 cannot be synced. An unknown error has occurred (-48)".
If anybody has ever encountered this problem, please post an answer as I don't have the money amount to buy a new one.Hey there,
Have you tried putting the iPod into Disk Mode? You may have to restore your iPod, but it might be able to fix the problem. Once your iPod is plugged in, just hit restore that comes up the main page. Hope this helps.

Everytime I try to sync my iPhone 5c onto my computer there's always a message that pops up and says there's an unknown error. I have synced my iPhone to a new computer and have purchased new music on this computer. I have previous music on my old computer which is still on my phone but i want that music off. I just want to start over with the new music i got on this computer. For some reason, the old music from my old computer won't show up on my new computer, but the old music shows up on my iPhone 5c. I have no idea on how to delete the old songs. My iPhone doesn't give me the option. I'm thinking maybe the error has to do something with that. Any suggestions?
The new iTunes has a somewhat different look from the previous version. You can get the old look back if you prefer it by doing View > Show Sidebar in iTunes. Or you can adapt to the new look.

I have a 4s iPhone and an IMAC OSX 10.9.4. 3 days ago my phone stopped syncing with my iMac. Gives an unknown error 1723. How do I fix? I think I changed a setting, but don't know which one would cause this problem. Thanks for any help.
I had the same problem and found a fix on another website.
First quit iTunes.
Second, open your Pictures folder.
Third, while holding down option, click on your iPhoto Library. Select, "Show Package Contents."
Fourth, you should see a folder called, "iPod Photo Cache." Move this folder to the trash, and empty the trash. Then close the window.
Finally, reopen iTunes. Everything should sync. -
I get unknown error (-53) when i try to sync, how do i fix?
My shuffle will no longer sync to my itunes. I get unknown error (-53). How can i fix?
I don't know what that error means, but if you have not already, shut down (power off) your computer. Reset the iPod shuffle using this procedure
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up the computer with the iPod NOT connected. Run iTunes. Connect the iPod shuffle and try to sync it again.
If there is still a problem with syncing, but the shuffle appears in the iTunes sidebar, I would next do a Restore (using iTunes) to erase the iPod and set it to default ("factory") settings. -
my computer deleted all of my songs off my ipod one time with i unplugged it, i think i unplugged it too soon and it wasn't finished ejecting. now every time i plug it in it gives me an error saying "the ipod 'Skye' cannot be synced, a duplicate file name was specified." It wont let me put any songs on my ipod now.
Never mind. I found out how to fix the problem
- Go to "Computer"
- Right click on your IPod icon
- Click "Properties"
- Go to the "Tools" tab
- Under "Error -checking" cilck the "Check now..." button
After doing all of that, ITunes now works like normal for me. -
Unknown error (-36), iPod mini thinks it's 'full' when it's only half-full!
Great site - I have discovered that lots of people have similar problems to me, but none are specifically the same as mine, hence I am posting a new topic. Sorry if this has appeared earlier........
This is driving me crazy. Last week I put a new album onto iTunes and when I connected my iPod mini (6GB), it wouldn't upload from iTunes to it. I thought it may be because my iPod was almost full up, so I deleted another album to make space for the new one. Still nothing happened. By now I knew I had space on the iPod, but the new album would still not go on. I figured I had to update my iPod, so I installed the latest update (1.4.1.) and the latest iTunes. Now, whenever I connect my iPod, it loads about half of my iTunes (it never stops at exactly the same place) onto my iPod, gets to about 2.9GB then flashes up one of 2 messages -
1. 'The disk cannot be read or written to', or
2. ' The iPod """ could not be written to. Unknown error (-36)
I have uninstalled the new updates, restored my iPod and re-installed the software that came in the box when I bought my iPod last May, in effect putting my iPod onto my PC for the very first time. But I am still having the same problems. This is very frustrating. Can you help?
Any solutions/help will be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

I've been on this page already, but it doesn't really help me. I thought my problem would be a common one that was fairly easy to fix, but it's begining to like unlikely.

Error 1453 - iPod won't update
After downloading 1.1.2 I was given an unknown error message saying that my iPod nano 2nd gen wouldn't update. Any sugestions please?
I believe that this is the same issue I just experienced with my iPod when I tried to update to 1.1.2. I only had just over 100MB free so I took a few songs of it so that I had about 350MB free and then I was able to successfully update frmo 1.1.1 to 1.1.2.
