Every time I go to my shopping cart to purchase music I keep getting this error
"We could not complete your ITunes store request. An unknown error occured (5002). There was an error in the Itunes store. Please try again later."
I have been trying for 4 days and nothing has changed. Does anyone have any insight?

If you go look in the Using iTunes Store with Windows discussions, LOTS of people are having this problem.
The shopping cart was never intended as a wishlist feature. Some people had 500 items in theirs!
You can
1) Change to one-click shopping
2) Contact the iTS team to have your shopping cart cleared

I also have seen this 5002 error for a while. The problem is at Apple's end. The solution posted here: Fix the Itunes 5002 Error worked for me. You need purchase the item one by one or recreate your wish list.

I upgraded to iTunes 7.7.0.43 and am no longer able to connect to the iTunes Store with my AppleID. Here is the exact message I receive:

Well...I've tried for two+ days now. I've been through all of the help/debugging suggestions (e.g., flushed dns, checked firewall, etc.) but still no luck. Please note that I AM able to connect to the iTunes Store using an older AppleID, but it's not the one that has an account balance.
Please help!!

FYI - I don't think this is a PC configuration/firewall issue. I went to the local Apple store last night and asked them if I could try connecting to the iTunes Store using my AppleID from one of their systems. I still received the same error:

Since I can connect to the iTunes Store from my PC using other AppleID's, it stands to reason that this particular problem is with the iTunes Store servers and not with the PC configuration.
APPLE TECHS: Any updates/suggestions you might have would sure be helpful.

I had the same problem. Although I did get 7.1 to work for a while and then suddenly all podcasts coming errored with 39. Also despite Windows recognising my iPod, itunes would never pick it up unless I went into service and manullay stopped and started the ipodservice.
Anyhow gone back to iTunes version 6. Will wait for iTunes 7.2 for one final try.....before giving up.

Sorry to hear your basket is the same as my basket and from what I read upon these sacred forums, many otheres are experiencing this trouble as well. If it's a user problem, it appeared just after one of the last two updates. Depricated? Unknown. User problem? Not likely. I wish I had an answer for you. Hopefully someone will have it soon. Mine has been down for 3 weeks now. I even tried uninstalling and trying a previous version. No such luck.

Error 5002 when trying to look at iTunes Plus

I just bought a new MBP, and since I used my education discount, I got a $100 gift card to use in the App Store/iTunes/etc. I have a bunch of songs I bought back when iTunes had DRM, so I was going to use this money to upgrade some of those purchases to iTunes Plus. However, whenever I click on "iTunes Plus" under Quick Links, I get a popup telling me that I can't access iTunes Plus because "Unknown Error 5002 Ocurred"
I've looked up the problem, and I've tried things like changing/resetting my billinb info, re-installing iTunes, and resetting my internet connection, but I have not had any luck so far. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks very much. Yes, a bit of online research helped me to track down
the problem. It was some redirects in the .htaccess file in the root
directory (this site is located in a subdirectory). All fixed now!

"Uknown error 5002" after re-installing Windows XP

Hi!
I have recently re-installed Windows XP Pro SP2. I re-downloaded the iTunes client (6.0.1.3) and installed it. I moved my old music and library files from the old Windows account into the new one (under My Documents/My Music/iTunes).
Now all files are visible and playable from the Library... but it won't purchase through the music store. "Unknown Error 5002".
I do NOT have McAfee installed. I have Norton Anti-Virus 2003, but I did before as well, and the iTunes Music Store worked just fine.
Any help is going to be appreciated. Thanks!

Error 5002 when trying to rent movie

I've never had problems renting movies from the iTunes Store, but just tried to rent Footlose and it keeps giving me Unknown Error 5002. Any idea what the problem might be? I have an iMac, 10.7.3. I'm trying to rent the SD version.

That is the only logical conclusion. I have tried several times via ITunes and it never worked. Then I tried with my iPhone and I was able to rent a movie with no problems.
I doubt it would be fixed in the weekend. I sent an email to support about this error 5002.
I hope they will come back to me about it or maybe work on it soon enough.

Error 5002, can't see the songs in my cart!

I chose to buy songs using a cart, but every time I try to open the page in itunes where the songs I chose should be listed, an error sign appears: it can't complete the request, unknown error (5002). I can't view the songs in my cart! What can I do?

We are experiencing this sudden error now too. Up until last night, we were accessing our Cart. But, then after adding one more song and deleting some from the cart, we got the error and cannot access the account from any machine. In addition to this one, we have a brand new iMAC "24, dual Intel; a PowerBook G4, and a Gateway Laptop running XP. None of the machines can access this Cart. Our other iTunes account is fine, without problem. But, this account's cart is inaccessible. I can find no solution.

ITunes 8 Upgrade Results in 5002 unknown Error when trying to update Apps

iTunes 8 reports that I have apps with updates available. When trying to update them I get this error:
We could not complete your iTunes Store Request.
An unknown error occurred (5002).
There was an error in the Itunes Store. Please try again later.

Here is what I did:
Look at the App Store on the phone and see what needs to be updated. Go back to iTunes and delete the Applications (I told it to trash it). Go into the iTunes Store and find the applications you just deleted. "Purchase" them again and it should download the latest version. No, you will not be charged again if you purchased it already. You can probably also do a "Check for Available Downloads" after you delete it instead of going through the purchasing process.
This is just a workaround. I'm not sure if subsequent updates will work or not. It may be that each app needs to be deleted and re-downloaded for updates to work.
