Unknown Error Occured (1429)

I recieved a NEW ipod upon request after have a malfunctioning one returned with my ONE YEAR WARRANTY!
Now this ipod, no more than a month after receiving it has shown me Unknown Error Occured (1429). It has not been dropped with exceptions to a few knocks. My MAC wont restore it because this unknown error shows up as well as when I try other computers. Assist is desperatly needed because it just seems to me like these new apple products have a weaker tolarance every generation!
Please help this very concerned customer and if there is not an appropriate way to solve this issue, am I covered on the RENEWED model with like a month warranty since I used the one year warranty?

I get kind of verbose about all the steps I take, so basically try a restore from an older version of the Apps/Utilities/iPod Software Updater. I used version 2005-06-26. Continue reading if you want my full, fun story. My iPods are back to factory settings and functioning, but I have not tried to update/sync from iTunes yet. Baby steps.
I hope I can explain what I did correctly (since I tried so many things and on 2 non-functioning 4th gen 40gb iPods both purchased Christmas 2004), but here goes nothing:
First, one of our ipods just stopped working. It sounded like the HD was caught in a loop (repetitive clicking, whirring, and restarting). I took it to a "Genius" at an Apple store and he looked at it and plugged it in and clicked his mouse around, took it to their back room for a few minutes and came back and pronounced that the HD was bad and the best I could do was either "trade in" for the recycling fee of 25% or pay upwards of $200 to have it repaired (this was in Aug sometime). I was so mad I just kept the ipod. After all I still had one functioning unit that I could use. I could keep the other for spare parts/battery whatever.
Anyway, yesterday while updating some of the music I just added to my iTunes library (v7.0.2(15)), iTunes locked up... my whole computer, so I did a hard reboot. After that, the ipod was stuck (keep in mind this leaves me with 2 broken iPods). So now I'm really mad (determined to fix). So I read some of these posts, try the restore from iTunes, keep getting the 1429 error, tried to basic erase from Disk Utility (failed), tried to secure erase - zero out data (failed - probably because my computer went to sleep - I let it go overnight). So lets pause on unit 2.
And come back to unit 1. In Aug I didn't do my research as I really didn't know where to start - I never got any errors to search the forums with and I was kind of lazy - afterall I still had one working ipod. Anyway, this time I tried putting the ipod into disk mode and it worked! I saw a ray of hope. Since my Mac was busy with iPod 2, I hooked iPod 1 up to my PC, that hadn't been online in a while and has an older version of iTunes & the iPod software. The PC recognized the device as an iPod and restored (I did the AC plug in) and the unit booted up just fine! Imagine my delight!
So back to unit 2 - it's processing overnight, I wake up, and see that it has failed, try to hook it up to my PC and it is recognized as a disk but not an iPod, so it won't restore. But I think maybe the trick is to restore using an older iPod Updater. So I bring it back to my Mac, go to Apps, Utilities, iPod Software Updater and select the oldest one I have on file (2005-06-26). I have unit 2 hooked up via fire-wire, in disk mode, and double click the app to open it. It tells me that I have an iPod plugged in, but not mounted (at least it recognizes that it's an iPod), so I click the restore button (get all the usual windows - auth, double ok's on the restore, etc.). It restores with no errors and the iPod mounts on the desktop, but the unit is still showing the do not disconnect sign and I'm just not sure, so I click restore again to let it go through that process again. The ipod mounts again and still says do not disconnect. So I eject it from the desktop and the iPod changes to the big check-mark with the OK to disconnect (disk mode) screen. That changes to the AC plug in screen (another delightful moment). I plug it in to the AC outlet, it finishes it's restore and I'm back to 2 clean-slate iPods!.

Hi there. I got an 80G ipod almost 3 months ago and it's been great, until now. I hadn't opened it in itunes for about a month. When I did, iTunes told me the iPod appeared to be corrupted. When I tried to restore the iPod, I got the warning in the title to this post. I've tried the 5 R's but obviously can't do the 5th because of the warning. Once I hit restore and get this error, the iPod disappears from iTunes, but the iPod still says "Connected, Eject before disconnecting."
Should i just give up and go to the genius bar? The iPod still plays, but I need to be able to manage the music through iTunes. I've looked around but can't find any discussions about this particular error. Has anyone experienced and solved this problem?

yup.....FINALLY was able to get a good connection to update to 10.5.2, and get around to restoring the iPod Classic 80GB. Now I have the 1429 error....
I have another classic at home that was a new one from apple after the "x" screen appeared on the first classic 80GB.
I am trying to restore this classic, but doesn't seem to be working...
I swear, you need 3 ipods....
    1-getting sent back to apple
    1-that plays
1 that is broken and trying to get fixed
that way you always have a working iPod....[hehe]
my BEST iPod was the 5G 30GB......but I ran out of room........

  • How can you get your music synced from iTunes to your iPod when a window pop ups on the screen saying"The iPod "Edward's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13019))?

I had 429 songs already on my iPod Touch. When I was in the process of syncing a song from my iTunes Library on to my iPod, a window popped up on the screen saying, ""The iPod "Edward's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13019)). I click "Device" on my iTunes Library to make sure the song was in my iPod. It showed the song that was recently synced now listed under "Device", but when I physically looked for the song on my iPod Touch, it does not appear on there at all. It all started when I decided to put a Playlist I created in the iTunes Library and transferred it on to my iPod. Do you know why it may affected my syncing process and is there any way where I could get the syncing function back to normal so that I can continue adding songs on my iPod? Thank you for listening.    P.S. My iPod iOS version is 4.3.5.

  • I downloaded an album from iTunes and some of the songs downloaded but others didn't there was an error message 8003 Unknown error occurred. While I downloaded the album to my phone, it wouldn't download to my mac, what am I doing wrong???

I purchased an album on ITunes store, while the items downloaded to my phone, it didn't download to my mac. Some of the songs downloaded but not the majority, when I try to download the songs, it gives me an error 8003 Unknown error occured. What am I doing wrong? If I can't download this album, how do I get a credit??

    Hello mercdw,
Once the music has been downloaded to your iPhone, you can transfer purchases from your device to iTunes.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
Alternatively, the following article provides further information regarding this error and steps that can help resolve the issue.
    "Error -50," "-5000," "8003," "8008," or "-42023"
These alerts occur due to timeouts or conflicts trying to write a file during download.
If you encounter this issue while accessing iTunes Store:
See iTunes 9: "One Moment Please" or "Error (-50)" message when accessing iTunes Store
If you encounter this issue while while downloading something from the iTunes Store:
Delete your iTunes Downloads folder, located in:
    Mac OS X:
~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads   Note: "iTunes Media" may appear as "iTunes Music. Also, the tilde (~) refers to your Home directory.
    Windows Vista:
  \Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\
    Windows 7:
  \Users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\
    Windows XP:
  \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\
After locating your iTunes Downloads folder:
    Quit iTunes.
Delete the Downloads folder on your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.
If you encounter this issue while while downloading Digital Copies using Windows:
Use MSCONFIG (directions for Windows XP and Windows Vista/Windows 7) to disable conflicting software.
If using MSCONFIG steps resolves the issue, you may want to use the System Configuration Utility to turn on the third-party System Services and Startup Items one at a time (restarting your computer after turning on the item or items) to identify which System Service or Startup Item is causing the conflict.
You can turn all of them back on by selecting the Normal Startup option under the General tab of the System Configuration Utility window, but please note that this may cause the issue to reoccur.
If you are able to isolate the issue to a particular third-party software, you may wish to contact them to let them know of the conflict.

  • Itunes wont open, I get "itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)"

I'm on Windows 7 - using itunes daily without problems and suddenly itunes wont open, I get "itunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)"  The only thing I can think is I think there was a download in progress when I shut down the computer.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalled, but I get the same thing. I tried clearing the itunes folder and reinstalling, same thing. help!

Doublechecking. When you did the complete uninstall, were you using the following document as a guide?
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
(If damaged program files are involved here, a standard install might not remove them, and a reinstall might not then replace them. So the Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled section is an important step.)

  • "There was a problem downloading podcast. An unknown error occurred (-50)"

    Hello everyone,
When I try to download the latest episode of my podcast feed, I see an exclamation mark next to the episode. When I click on the exclamation mark for more information, I see the following error message:
"There was a problem downloading <podcast_episode>. An unknown error occurred (-50). Please check that the URL is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again."
I was hoping that somebody might take a look at my feed and review the code for any potential problems. It can be found here:
    http://www.stereogol.com/audio/wimpy_podcast.php
    Important notes:
    1. This is not XML code. It is an XML generator created in PHP.
    2. This feed used to work fine in iTunes. I had many episodes already downloaded.
    3. I began noticing the problem after upgrading to iTunes version 7 and beyond.
    4. I know at least 3 other people that experienced the same problem with my feed after upgrading.
    5. Upgrading to newer service packs (7.0.2 for example) has not solved the problem.
    6. I ran my feed through an RSS validator. It spotted 2 errors: (1) the width of the podcast image and (2) the syntax of the <source> tag. I made corrections but they did not solve the problem. I changed them back after that.
Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.
    Pedro

  • There was a problem downloading An unknown error occurred (-50).

    Hi,
After upgrading to Itunes 11 it refused to play movies I had purchased through the Itunes store, even though I could see the files were there on my hard drive, and the movie covers were visible in Itunes. I discovered that the only way to get them playing was to redownload them from the Icloud. If this wasn't bad enough (I have over 200GB of movies) I am getting the following error on particular files.
There were problems downloading some purchased items.
For more information on the items that could not be downloaded, click below.

I hope somone can help me with both problems because whilst my ISP might like to see me download 200MB of data (I pay extra when I go over 20GB in a month), I would not. Also the error problem would be usefull to correct because I would hate to lose any of my Itunes purchases. I should probably mention that I am using Windows 8 64 bit.
    Thanks,
    Lachlan

    Hi Lachlan,
That sounds frustrating. Luckily, we have documentation on this error message:
iTunes Store: "Error (-50)" when downloading purchased content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1583
This can happen when the connection timeout occurs while downloading purchased content from the iTunes Store. Certain types of software may also affect the way a computer sends and receives information from the internet. Here are a few examples of these types of software:
    - Firewalls
    - Web Accelerators
    - Ad Filters
    - Virus Protection Software

    Try this...
Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
    cmd /k netsh winsock reset
Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
You should get something similar to this:
Reboot the computer and the problem should be resolved.
If it doesn't work then perhaps a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes will fix things. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details.

  • The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)

Today, I downloaded the latest version of Itunes.
When it finished installing it came up with the following error:
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)". I have uninstalled iTunes, and all related Apple software and re-installed iTunes several times and still I get the same error.
I contacted Apple support and was sent two emails. One detailing what needed to be uninstalled and then a web site to go to where I could download and install Microsoft's latest .NET Framework, which apparently was the root cause of the problem.
I did as instructed:Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    1.iTunes
    2.QuickTime
    3.Apple Software Update
    4.Apple Mobile Device Support
    5.Bonjour
6.Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later).
Restarted the PC and then downloaded the latest version of Microsoft's .NET Framework - version 4.
Restarted the PC again and received a strange message from some Apple application I have never heard of stating "CoreFoundation.dll file is missing".
I GOOGLEd the message and found out I also needed to unistall another Apple application called MobileMe. So, I did this and restarted the PC again!
I then downloaded the latest version of iTunes, again.
Now I'm getting "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50).
From checking through GOOGLE, I believe it's something to do with user accounts and iTunes not being able to find the music folder???? But the answers I found all relate to Windows 64 pit PC's.
I am running Windows 7, 32 bit on a Sony Vaio laptop.
I cannot get support from Apple as I don't own a MAC. But I do own an iPhone but it's out of warranty.
    HELP !!!!
    Can anybody please help me?
    Thx

If you go to the web page "http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923" and follow the "Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled" it does the trick. There are few other folders and files that alos need to be deleted!
    iTunes is now working.
