Unknown error on export to iBook

I have a chapter of a book that has been successfully exported to iBook for distribution to our author team for review.  I opened it up with a current copy of IBA and Lion to do a search and replace on an abbreviation that was wrong.  I saved a version, then went to File:Export:ibook to a folder.  No joy.  I tried exporting to the desktop - no joy.  I can epxort TXT and PDF no problem.  The error is "Unknown error".
I wish there was some hint as to where or what the issue is/was....
I'm a NEWBIE to this tool so any extra compassion would be extra appreciated!!

For the benefit of anyone searching on this error.
The late fall 2012 of IBA and iBook solved the issue as the IBA tool now shows you where there is a FONT problem and allows you some ability to fix it.
By doing a 1970's era debug method, basically cut the darn IBA file up into pieces and tested each, I found that the problem was a single table with a non-supported font.  After the IBA update, the tool would tell me I had font problems (not where mind you) and allowed me to do some substitution.
As to KT's gracioius assistance, we obviously had a communications issue with terminology.
Thank you KT for your interest.

  • Unknown error when exporting 32-bit 5.1 wav audio

I get the ever useful "Unknown error" when exporting the audio from Premiere Pro CS6 to a 32-bit, 5.1 channel uncompressed WAV file most of the time. I was able to get it to work just fine by pasting the audio to a new project, but that isn't working anymore. I get the same error when I change it to 24-bit audio. However, when I change to 16-bit sound it works fine.
First, is there a real audible difference between 16- and 32-bit when it's all going through a WAV to AC3 converter? The AC3 files get dumped into Encore as the audio track so that I can get 5.1 sound on blu-rays instead of Encore re-encoding things.
Second, what would cause it suddenly not work, and how can I get it working again?

That error can happen for many reasons...one of the reasons that I occassionaly get it is because I try exporting a movie to an external drive that has been formated in the old FAT32 instead of the NTSF standard.  FAT32 only allows for file sizes up to 2 gigs.  And as soon as it reaches that...I would get that error.  I don't know if that is why you are getting that error...but it would be easy to check.  1) are you generating a file that is over 2 gigs?  2) is your drive that you are exporting to FAT 32 (just right click the drive in My Computer and select "properties" then just look for what it says next to "file system".

  • 'Unknown Error' while exporting a document as '.DOC'

I'm using Pages '09 on a Mac Mini running OS-X Lion.  I have a 66-page document, originally a .DOC file which I modified and am trying to convert back to a .DOC file.  When I try to convert it I get a warning dialog which says: 'An Unknown Error Occurred'.
I searched these pages and found that a number of people reported this and managed to fix it by solving some sort of problem with fonts, but I could not understand what people said they did to fix it.  So I made a duplicate of my document,  removed the last 30 pages, tried to export, got the error.  Removed the last 15 pages, etc. until I found the page which was causing the problem.
Doing this I found two problem pages.  The first one had a style called 'Body Bullets' which was using Helvetica 10 point.  I changed it to Arial 10 point, but it did not solve the problem.  So I deleted the style and used a built-in style called 'Bullet' which I redefined to use Arial 11 point.  That worked.
The next problem page had a small section in Arial 10-point.  I changed it to use 'Body' style (which I had defined earlier to use Arial 11-point) and now the whole document can be successfully converted to .DOC without errors.
My question is can this be fixed or do I have to avoid using Helvetica/Arial 10-point fonts in my document?
    Thanks.
    Martin Barker.

    Hi
Here I have no problem with these fonts :
For Doing this I found two problem pages I used Helvetica 10.
For The next problem page had I used Arial 10.
I was able to export without any kind of problem.
It would be a good idea to scan your fonts with FontBook.

  • Unknown error when exporting to a PST

Trying to export to a PST file from outlook 2013, it starts okay then as doing calendar stops with a message box which says "unknown error"
    Any ideas?
    Darren Rose

    Hi,
We should run Scanpst.exe for several times until there’s no error. Since you are using Exchange account, it’s not necessary to repair your data file, just rename the .ost file to .old
and let it re-sync a new one from the server. Please refer to the following article:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA102749454.aspx
What’s the total size of the items you want to export to pst, if it’s too large, I recommend you export to different pst files.
For your situation, just try to export calendar item into a separate pst file and check the result.
BTW, why do you want the exported pst file? Why not just copy the original data file and use it in another device?

  • Error Compiling Movies: Unknown Error while exporting

Hey guys...I searched every where and have yet to find a solution to my problem so sorry if this is a repeat post...but as the title states, I get an "unknown error" message after successfully rendering my clip/sequence and trying to export. So the error occurs while trying to export my rendered clip. The exact message is "Error Compiling Movies: Unknown Error. This has been extremely frustrating as I have done tons of edits with out experiencing this issue. It started happening out of no where. Anybody got any advice or fixes? Much would be appreciated.

  • 'Unknown Error' on Export or Word!

Any attempt to export any document (even a blank one) to Word format fails with an "unknown error".
This is a new error that did not occur before, even with complex documents. I have rebooted, deleted the preferences file, etc. Does anyone else have this problem? Any thoughts on how to fix it?

I have been FIGHTING with the "Unknown export error" problem all day long, and I just figured out what the problem with my particular document was: it was because I had pasted an outline from Keynote into my document.
Here's a run-down of the other possible causes of this problem (all of which I tried and none of which worked): I tried deleting my preferences, activating and validating all my fonts, unclicking the "Include preview in document" box in the "Save as" menu. Because I was able to export a blank .pages document to Word, I went through my entire document, deleting bits of it until I was successfully able to export to Word.
I discovered that it was because I had pasted a little outline from a Keynote presentation and that the style (either paragraph or character, I'm not sure which) of the pasted bit confused Pages. Just highlight the [potential] problem area and choose "Normal" from the drop-down "Choose a character style" button, then for good measure choose "Normal" from the drop-down "Choose a paragraph style" button. Breathe a sigh of relief.

  • "Unknown Error" during export

When I export my video it does work. But only up until an effect (like text, or transformations) and then it says "error compiling movie. Unknown error" and won't continue the export.
I'm not sure if i'm using wrong settings or what, but I'm very confused as to why this only happens after I've applied effects.

  • Recent Rendering Issues? Getting "Unknown Error" on Multiple Computers and OSs

    Premiere CS3 3.2.0 (374)
    Windows XP 32 bit
2 Xeon 3.0 Ghz Dualcore processors
    4 GB RAM (3.5 Usuable)
So last week at work I started getting an "unknown error" while exporting a video, which is something I've never gotten before. It was a video with multiple formats of clips (probably more than I use on a normal week), and though they weren't really anything out of the ordinary, I figured it was one of them causing the error.
After a TON of troubleshooting on the project (deleteing this clip and that, removing effects), I was somewhat randomly able to export it. With only a slight tweak to the length of one clip (and without shutting down the program), I tried to export it again, and it failed once again. I undid the change, it still failed.
So I open up a project I had finished from the week before and exported fine. It fails with an unknown error.
Each time exporting a simple DV clip in widescreen format from a 1080i HDV project, which I've done hundreds of times.
So, I'm thinking this is a weird error, but it gets weirder when a week later I'm working at home on a completely unrelated project. I open up a finished project that I had had no problems exporting 5 weeks ago to export again (as I had since deleted the final export and a client was asking for another copy as they had apparently lost it too.) and what do you know, it failed with the exact same "unknown error". Completely different system, completely different project. A project I had exported the exact same as it was and had worked 5 weeks ago. (This time as a 1440x1080 1.33 AR Quicktime H.264 Clip). Every time, part way through (and at different times from one export to the next) this 15 minute video, it stops with an unknown error.
    This system is a:
    Premiere CS3
    Windows XP Home edition.
    P42.8 Ghz HT
    2GB RAM
My Final Cut buddies are just laughing at me and my rendering struggles, then I talk to one of my friends who also uses Premiere. But he uses Premiere CS3 on the Mac, and who would have thunk it, he's been having these "unknown errors" pop up on innocent videos in the past two weeks as well, and has never seen them before.
Now I know it's not a coincidence, and I know it's not something with Windows Updates like I thought after my work and home computer had the errors.
Sometimes videos will export correctly, but they usually fail. I can open up projects that were long ago completed and working and they will sometimes fail, sometimes not. So, there again, I know it's not a problem with clips or Projects, because two successive exports will yield different results.
Who else is getting this error recently. I know it can't be just me. Anyone know what is going on?

    Perhaps this will help:
    Error:Unknown error

  • Premiere CS6 Unknown Error in Rendering & Export

    Hello,
this is an ongoing problem that persisted on any version of Adobe Premiere Pro I worked with, including CS5,5.5 and the latest 6.
I am stuck with a feature film on a CS6 Timeline, getting an Unkown Error during rendering and Media Encoder exports.
I get the same error if I attampt to create a new trimmed project with Project Manager.
I am aware that this is one of the most common problems in this forum, and before opening a discussion I tried everithing I could:
    - Replace the media at the point of the error/crash (even though the error seems to happen randomly in dirrerent portions of the timeline)
    - Disable MPE
    - Reset Secutity and permission on files
    - change hard drive
    - Create a new sequence
    - Disable second monitor
I have to bring an export of my film and a new trimmed project by tomorrow to a color house and I am currently stuck.
I managed to render the entire timeline before exporting. Redering would stop randomly, generating the same "Unkown Error in Copiling Movie".
Although I rendered the entire timeline by creating different IN-OUT with the work area selection.
After a long and tetious rendering process I managed to have the entire timeline "green" and ready to go.
I figured that this way the exporting process would have been successful. Unfortunatelly not.
I switched to Premiere Pro for its ability to edit R3D media, but what's the point if we cannot export the project? And neither trimm it to a file that I can give to a colorist?
Here some details of my workstation and source media:
    - MacPro 12cores 64Gb ram
    - Internal 6Tb raid for source media
    - 4Tb Dulce Scratch drive
    - Editing 4K and 5K R3D Media natively
If anyone found a solution to this problem, please help.
    Thanks

    Hi Neonhigh,
If you are going to color correction, why do you need an output? Aren't they color correcting the native files?
I need an output as reference for the VFX department, I need an output for the sound designer, I need an output for the producer, I need an output for myself and to send to my girlfriend. The question I should ask you is, why shouldn't I need an output?
What's wrong by exporting my timeline in a format that is not r3d files for reference and production management?
I was talking about color correction only, as they usually only need the native files. Of course, an output would be necessary for all the other things you mentioned. Nothing wrong with that.
    Neonhigh wrote:
If you need an output for some reason, why are you rendering at all?
As I explained I simply rendered because the software was having several random "Unkown" problems in exporting. I though rendering and exporting a file matching the timeline settings would have solved those annoying Unkown Errors, giving me at list an export based on the render sttings.
Problem is that PPro CS6 fails also to render the timeline, and I needed to break the process in 30-40 segments in order to achieve a complete rendering.
Rendering in Premiere Pro is primarily for playback, and not necessary for output. In fact, it's a waste of time in most cases. Render files are typically not used for an output unless you explicitly want to do so. Typically they are lower resolution "preview" files that you don't want to use.
Regardless, you should have no trouble rendering sections of your Timeline. Are you updated to Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.2)?
Can you try an export without rendering?
I wish PPro CS6 was reliable enough to allow me to simply export.
I still did not solve the problem. Several people from the redusers forum are trying to help me as and they all ran into the same issue.
    Currently this are the issues:
    - PPro does not render the entire timeline
I'm trying a test project right now and so far it is rendering OK. Can you point me to the reduser forum post where people were giving you assistance?
    - does not output the entire timeline (if not chopping it in 12-15 parts)
I'll test that, as well. You should not have to segment the sequence in order to get an export.
    - Project Manager does not trim the project to pass it to over post prod facilities.
Sorry, the Project Manager will not consolidate every media type. It will copy, however. This would be a feature request or bug report: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
Beside questioning me with why I want to render or export my project,
Not questioning your capabilities or talents, I just wanted to know what you wanted to do, and why. Typically, most people don't render as much in Premiere Pro as they do in other NLEs and I was wondering why you needed an export to go to color correction. That's all.
Many users in this forum (as well as on the entire internet) experienced th same Unkown Problem:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4661398
There could be many different variables which can cause that error. The troubleshooting doc you found addresses many of those. I will add the "Unknown Error" warning to the document.
There is no "single fix" for this problem, I'm afraid, and these are our opinions and solutions on the matter.
A legitimate gripe would be that the error is too generic, and I would agree with you there. The error should contain more details about how to remedy your issue. Please make a feature request for more descriptive error dialog boxes: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
I will also mention it to the product team.
I understand that, being an "Unkown Errror" Adobe does not have a iniversal fix, but please don't ask me why I want to output my timeline.
Again, I was only asking in the context of color correction. Of course, you want an output for various reasons.
I've written up your bad experience in my case notes and I'll do my best to get you some better answers to your questions. You definitely should not have to jump through hoops to render or export a .R3D sequence.
    Neonhigh wrote:
Here is a temporary fix for who runs into this problem:
Yesterday, after trying everything I could think of I simply exported an XML, opened it in Final Cut Pro and exported all the files and formats that I needed. No Unknown Errors.
Thanks for the workaround. I'll add it to my notes.

  • Why pages sometimes tells me : "an unknown error occurred" when trying to export a document into .docx or .pdf ?

    Hello !
Since I've done the 5.0 update for Pages (and also with 5.1 and 5.2), I sometimes don't manage to export my documents into .docx or .pdf files. I get a message telling: "an unknown error occured", and the file isn't converted. Could someone help me ?

Other than using the version that works, as VikingOS suggests, look for any distinguishing features or objects that may be common amongst the files that won't convert. Particularly Tables which seem to experience the most problems.
We have had a number of reports of this by other users and not been able to finger exactly what is the cause.
Pages 5.2 has quite a few problems with exporting and this is just another.
