Unknown error on iDevices after AppleTV on network

Hi all,
So, this is a wierd one. I've scoured the internets and can't find a single word about it so I thought I'd ask here.
I picked up an AppleTV last night. Love it....messed around with it, played with Air Play, watched a movie - great stuff. This morning, I'm trying to update some apps on my iPhone and my iPad on the app store and every time I do I'm getting "An unknown error has occured."
Logic would say that there's no way these are connected but a co-worker is able to update her apps just fine on her iPhone and this issue is affecting both my iPhone and my iPad.
So, basically:
1. Bought AppleTV and put it on my network. Connected all my accounts.
2. Tried to update apps on iPhone and iPad - get error "an unknown error has occured." Same thing happens on purchase attempt. Happens on both wifi and 3G (so, separate networks).
3. Co-worker can use app store from her iPhone with no issues (so, presumably it's not the App Store).
Does anyone have the slightest idea what could be going on here?

No kidding???? Sorry to take pleasure in your problem but at least I'm not the only one!!
What have you done for troubleshooting so far? I got a support person on the phone this morning and so far we've:
changed my account password
registered a different credit card on my account
logged in and out of the app store
re-started the device (a billion times)
Still no good. I'm at work at the moment but when I get home I'm going to try:
logging the AppleTV out of my account
trying an app purchase over iTunes on my computer
resetting settings
(last resort) resetting the phone
It can't be the phone though. This happens on my iPad, too. My assumption is that there's something happening on the backend account-wise but there's nothing online about it, the support person I dealt with didn't have anything, and he even went and talked to a senior support tech. Also, nothing.
I asked if there's a limit to the number of devices you can have logged in to your AppleID at any given time...obvious answer was no.
Highly irritating - not because it happened - but because it makes absolutely no logical sense.

  • "An unknown error occurred (-50)" after library import

    Here's the gist...
I used the new feature in File:Library to reorganize my iTunes 9 library so it was easier to navigate in Finder. After that, every time I plugged the iPhone in, it wanted to copy ALL the songs over again. I tried everything I could think of, including restoring my phone. When all that failed, I followed the advice of a KB Article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451) and, lo, the problem was solved.
...until I went to check for updated apps. All my iPhone apps still exist in the Mobile Applications folder in Finder, but none are present in iTunes. Any attempt to add them via drag and drop results in the error "The Application (name) could not be added to your iTunes library because an error occurred. An unknown error occurred (-50)." I also discovered that app syncing had been turned off in the iPhone settings.
With there being 121 apps in that folder, I'm certainly in no mood to redownload them all and telling iTunes to just sync apps again results in it wanting to wipe my iPhone of all the installed apps. Also not something I'm willing to do.
    Any thoughts?
    thanks!

Thanks, MJ, but that's not the problem I'm having. I can see the apps in finder, I just can't get them back into iTunes where they belong.
As further clarification to my problem, a post was created in the iPhone Hardware group where someone else is having the same problem I was (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10236133#10236133) in conjunction with the problems listed above. By following the advice of the KB article, that problem, and the continuous copying of songs, was solved, but the missing applications problem was then created.
I'm cross referencing this post with that one so that the problem can be hit at both ends and people can be made aware of the greater scope of this issue.

  • IPad 'Unknown error 1651', even after latest update

Hi guys, does anybody know how my fix the 'unknown error (1651)' message when updating an iPad? I'm running Lion and everything is up-to-date (ITunes, etc), even the iPad version is the latest (4.3.5), but the error keeps popping up every time I sync. I've already restored it 2 times...Thanks in advance!!
My iPad is first generation, and does not have a sim card installed as I only use wi-fi.

This is probably an iTunes bug but you can work around this by installing a micro-sim and turning off celular data.

  • Getting "Unknown Error has Occurred" After Project Server 2013 DB Restore

    Hi All,
I have restored our content and pwa databases as per Microsoft's guide, one Project Web App works fine and the other has the error "An Unknown Error has Occurred" on the projects view and also when viewing Enterprise Project Types.
Another thing I have noticed is that only the Sys Admin has access to the project sites even though users have been added as admins etc.
We are patched to the December 2013 CU / Hotfix and I have also run the provided service scripts by Microsoft to go with the hotfix.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as we are looking to test SP1 and apply to our production environment.
    Thanks in advance...

PowerShell has a command called. Test-SPContentDB.
Run the TEST-SPContentDB powershell command on database and see if it provides additional information.

  • TS1424 I am having issues downloading music from iTunes, it comes up saying an unknown error has occurred - please check your network connection. Now I can connect to iTunes store and have itunes as an exception for downloads so don't know what else to do

Hello, I've started having an issue downloading songs and apps from iTunes to our PC which has Windows XP Professional installed. We also use Karspersky Anti-Virus and Firefox as an internet browser. Have never had this issue before, it comes up with "An unknow error has occured and downloads are stopped with an error 8003. Also says please check your network connection" We have no issue connecting to iTunes store or the network so not sure how to fix this. It is very frustrating. Have checked Windows Firewall and iTunes is an exception, can't think of anything else why it won't work.

I sounds as though you need to start again. The following article tells you how to completely remove iTunes and Quicktime. If you didn't actually install iTunes you wont find it in add/remove programs so you can't do that bit, but still delete the iTunes folder in Program Files as advised in the article.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
Once you have got rid of them, try installing the latest version of iTunes. There is a link to it in the article.
Itunes wont move your music for you, get iTune sgoing then ask again.

  • IPod won't sync - "Itunes could not copy (name of song) to the ipod (name of ipod) Because an unknown error occurred (-53)"

I recently bought a used iPod Classic (my previous one was stolen). I still had my iTunes library on my computer so I was just going to hook it up and sync my library over, replacing what was on there from the previous user. When I first hooked it up to my computer (Windows 7 64-bit) there was a message saying the drivers were not installed properly. I un-plugged it, and plugged it back in to the same result. I tried 1 more time and didn't get the error message. I then opened iTunes and clicked on the iPod. I checked for updates, then clicked "Restore this iPod". Next, I set it up to sync music, and the sync began. It seemed to work for a while, the "Syncing iPod" message was displayed at the top, and it said it was copying songs over. It did this for about 10 minutes before I finally got the following message:
"Itunes could not copy (name of song) to the ipod (name of ipod) Because an unknown error occurred (-53)"
After that happens, everything seems to freeze up. iTunes says it's still syncing, but nothing ever seems to happen. If I click the eject button, nothing happens either. I eventually have to just disconnect the iPod. The iPod seems frozen for a while, then it seems to reboot itself (the gray apple window displays), then the interface displays and I can get to the songs on there. But, only a very small portion of my library makes it to the iPod. I've tried several times now and it always seems to be the same songs that DO make it onto the iPod. However, it's a different song listed in the error message each time, so it doesn't seem to be just 1 song causing the problem. Also, once I hook the iPod back to the computer, Windows displays a message prompting me to scan the drive and fix errors. I did it once and it said it found some errors and fixed them.
    I saw this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3924425
and some people were suggesting removing everything from your library then re-adding it, in case the paths were messed up. I tried that and still got the same results. I also updated iTunes to the latest version, and I've tried different USB ports and 2 different USB cables.
I also found instructions for a batch file you can run that, I believe, updates the iTuens DLLs, I did that as well but it did not help: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539
What else can I try to fix this?

  • Who can help me with unknown error 0xE800005E

After updating itunes to 10.6 and my iphone to iOS 5 my iphone got trouble syncing with my computer.
I was able to connect at first but halfway a sync I was disconnected and got the message:
iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800005E)
After that my phone would not work properly and after a restart i only got the Apple logo on my phone.
I was able to do a recovery, restore and restore back up. However the after the back up was put back I had trouble syncing and the phone would stop working again. Did another recovery and restore but that gave other error messages.
Tried it with another computer without itunes 10.6. I was able to do a recovery, restore. This gave a basic recovery but not much of my apps and other info.
When I tried to sync on my other computer I got the same disconnect and error message.
I did a complete new install also, didn't work either.
I can't use the phone at all because after a little while I can't get into the phone any more and a reset gives the apple logo.
I used different USB cables and slots. No results.
Is this a hardware issue or software?
Are there more people with trouble after updating to iOS5 with this problem?
Has somebody some suggestions what to do next.

  • ITunes could not copy "Song Name" to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (-50)

Recently when I tried syching one of my playlists into my iPhone 4 (Running on 5.1) using iTunes 11.2.0.26 for Windows (Windows XP SP3), I have been having a problem with some songs I acquired recently.  It will sync all the other songs, but when it reaches the song in question, the following error message pops up:
"iTunes could not copy "Name of Song" to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (-50)"
After which, it stops synching songs altogether.
I tried TWO different USB connectors (BOTH from Apple), and the error still occurs.  When I remove the song in question, ALL songs sync normally.
I used the 'Get Info' option to see if there was something in the way the song was coded.  This info is from one of the songs that gets synched normally:
    Kind:                  MPEG Audio file
    Size:                  11 MB
    Bit Rate:            256 kbps
    Sample Rate:     44.100 kHz

THIS is the info on the problematic song:
    Kind:                  MPEG Audio file
    Size:                  8.2 MB
    Bit Rate:            256 kbps
    Sample Rate:     44.100 kHz

    Encoded with:   LAME3.96
By the way, BOTH song (The ones synching normally, and this unsynching song), where purchased and downloaded from Amazon.com.
ANY information that will help me solved this problem will be VERY appreciated.  Likewise, if you need any additional information, please let me know...

  • I've update iOS devices to 8.0 and now need to update xCode, but keep getting "unknown error -50" leaving me with a non-working internet connection - the only fix seems to be reboot of both iMac and router - any ideas?

Having updated all my iOS devices to iOS 8.0 I now need to update xCode to match. I've tried several times, and on each occasion have received an "unknown error -50" message after getting about 500Mb. After this my internet connection appears to be fully occupied, and the only fix appears to be a reboot of both the iMac (2.5GHx Core i5, 4Gb RAMm OS X 10.9.5) and the router (Netgear DG834 v5, firmware 1.6.01.34) At first I thought that the error had not stopped the download, but after waiting for 30 minutes the connection was still unresponsive, though traffic was indicated as passing through but the router status page, and no additional content had been added to the download. Anyone else having a similar problem and different ideas as to fixing it?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • What do you do when you're trying to sync your music to iTunes library,  you receive the message unknown error -54, then your music on your iPhone 5c is left scrambled?

When I first got my iPhone, I was successfully able to add my music to the iTunes library. Over a period of a month, iTunes hasn't been able to "find" increasingly more of my songs. Then this error message began to appear: unknown error (-54). After listening to tech support I backed up my phone and try to restore it. Afterwards I only had on my phone the songs I had bought. So I tried syncing it again. The same error message as stated before consistently shows up. And now my music is scrambled on my phone (since when did Stevie Wonder sing Mean and Enchanted by Taylor Swift???) Has anyone had this problem? It looks like iTunes is messing up my music. Whats the solution?

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.
    Matt
