  • I need a Smart Album that only contains photos with NO faces detected

I've been fiddling with the smart album settings, and I can't seem to find a way to do this. iPhoto will miss detection on some faces, and I need a way to see ONLY the photos that iPhoto didn't find a face for.
This is NOT the same as a smart album with an "unknown" face. This is a smart album that will show ALL photos with NO face detected at all.
    Is this possible?

Boy, why can't we use Smart Folders as a criteria for creating another Smart Folder? This works in iTunes! You can use a Smart Playlist as a criteria for creating another Smart Playlist.
Well, here is what you can do...
Create a Smart Folder that gathers all of the identified Faces. Faces --> is not --> unnamed
Then drag all those photos to a standard album titled Faces Named
Next Create a Smart folder that gathers all of the unnamed Faces. Faces --> is --> unnamed
Now drag all those photos to a standard album title Faces Unnamed.
Finally, create a Smart Album with the following criteria...
Album --> is not --> Faces Named
Album --> is not --> Faces Unnamed
That should gather every photo that iPhoto has determined that no faces exist.

  • IPhoto 8.1.2 can you create a smart album with only one face

I'm using iPhoto 8.1.2 and have about 23k photos in the library. I have identified 32 key faces, and would now like to create some smart albums that contain only the face or faces that I want and to exclude all the others.  S for example  a smart album that has only my son.
I tried using the doesn't contain this face, but you can only have around 10 filters/critiria in a smart album.
    any suggestions are appriciated

You can't really, because you can't exclude enough of the faces.
I would keyword the preferred images as well, so finding the face and the keyword would find the pics of the person alone.

  • How do I make a smart album with ONLY pictures of a face with no one else?

I'm not handy with logic so if this is simple, I apologize. I'm trying to make an album of pics of my girlfriend. So I do a smart album and it comes up with her pics. But what I WANT is only the photos where she's in them with no one else tagged. How do I do that?

Do not think is is possible unless you add face is not every other face
suggest to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback

  • Smart albums not working with multiple faces

I have a picture in an event tagged with 2 faces, Chase and Caleb.
I setup a smart album with two criteria: 1) Face 'is' Chase, and 2) Face 'is not' Caleb.
My smart album includes the photo above, but it shouldn't since I have specified that I want Caleb's face excluded.
    What am I doing wrong?

But you've also specified that you do want Chase.
So you've said the iPhoto: Do show me this pic and as well as that, Don't show me this pic.
Is it set to match 'All' the criteria or 'Any'?

  • Smart Album  to show pics with no faces, & any photos that iPhoto no faceID

Hi, I've just started to use iPhoto 09, after a long long time getting to know my iMac, and organising my iTunes library...
I want a smart album to show photos which have no faces, but also to have photos which iPhoto has not picked up that a photo needs a "face ID" on, what I mean is, if a person is turned away to to the side, iPhoto might not pick up that it needs to be a "face" and so wont show up in the normal smart album Photo>is>unnamed
if anyone can help, would be great, I'm busy slowly importing my photos, and what to do this one step at a time
    cheers

A smart album with the criteria "Face is unnamed" will find any photo with an unnamed face on it. It can be either one with a named face or two but at least one unnamed face or a photo with no faces named.
There is workaround to get what you want.
1 - add a keyword, face, to any photo you name a face in.
2 - create a smart album with the criteria "Keyword is not face".
This will identify any photo with no face at all. If you've not added any other keywords to photos you can create the smart album above and then sort by keyword. Those with both a face and unnamed face will have the keyword face and can be sorted to the top or bottom of the list.

  • Create smart album with ONLY some faces

Hi. I need some help here. I created a smart album and I want it to have photos where only my girlfriend and I appear. I put two conditions: Face-is-my_name, and Face-is-mygirlfriend'sname. The problem is that it creates the album but it also contains photos where we and someone else appears, not only the two of us. Is there any way I can get it done?
    Thanks for your posts.

Yes, I said to meet ALL conditions, and my smart album is in fact just like you said, with photos that have both of us but also other people.
But I get it, the only way to exclude other people is specifically by name. I just wanted to know if there was another "more automatic" way. Thanks a lot LarryHN.

  • Smart Album errors detecting photos w/ missing faces

I created a smart album (Faces is "unnamed") to find photos with missing faces. I went through and identified each of the photos. As I did this, as soon as I put in the name, many (but not all) disappeared from the album.
However, the Smart Album still has a number of photos, even though there are no unidentified images. I checked each one to see if there were small boxes that I missed, but there weren't.
I deleted the album and set up a new smart album (with the same criteria) and the images still appear in the album.
Is there any way to make my smart album smarter? (remove a plist???)
    Thanks!

.  "Affe".  I have a face named "Sculpture".
I was quite impressed that Aperture's Face Recognition recognizeed the baboon's face.
I have some nice tagged sculptures too.
And some of the more cheeky suggestion by Aperture I named "Funny Face", for example - where does Aperture see a Face here in the bottom part of the picture?

  • IOS photo app vs iPhoto, keywords, smart albums, face detection?

    greetings,
i have some questions about iOS photos app in comparison to iPhoto (in 10.8).  i've done a little searching on the web and in the forum, but didn't see this covered...
i always sync my iPhone to my mac, copy/import my photos to iPhoto, and use iPhoto to organize my photos.  in iPhoto, i tag photos (keywords) and use "smart albums" to access all my photos based upon the keyword tags.  face detection in iPhoto is GREAT!.   i have all my friends faces named and finding them by "people" grouping is fantastic.  the down side to all of this is that i have everything working great on my mac, but usually i'm using the photos app in the iPhone to show pics to my friends since that is what i have with me.  i'm not sure if this information in iPhoto ever gets synced back to my iPhone.
1- does the iOS photos app have any of these features from iPhoto?
in other words, can i tag photos, lable the faces of friends, set up smart albums in iOS photos?  if so, please point me to some info.  i haven't seen an obvious way to do any of this.
2- can i sync what i do in iPhoto back to my iPhone?
in other words, can i get the tags, peoples' names on their faces, and smart albums copied from iPhotos back to my iPhone?  is there some setting or command in iPhoto, or somewhere else?
3- i just turned on photostream.  can/does this iPhoto data transfer via photostream to the iPhone?
    i have an iPhone 4.
i am just about ready to upgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 6.  so if any of these features are specific to iOS 6, please let me know.
i'd appreciate it if you could mention if there is anything special about iOS in the iPad, because a friend has asked me how she can do in her iPad (iOS 6), what i do with iPhoto in my mac.
thank you for any suggestions or advice.

  • Wrong face being shown in smart album

This is using iphoto on mac
Why does wrong face get selected in smart album.
My smart album is set to show faces that contain  "Griffiths"  but I don't want one person with same sir name to show.  I re name this persons face to  "Griffo" expecting him to now be omitted from album, but his face still shows up. What is going on here please ?
    Thanks
    George, UK

I rename this persons face to  "Griffo" expecting him to now be omitted from album, but his face still shows up.
Have you also changed the full name of the "Face" of the person to a different last name? You can do that in the Info panel.
Or add a second rule to your smart album:
    Match all
    Face contains "Griffith"
    Face does not contain "Griffo".
Have you checked, if not one image in your Griffith Faces stack has been mislabelled?

  • Bug with Smart Albums, Faces & Places.

I have recently got married, and we have got a good few hundred photos added into iPhoto (for a total of a few thousand). And we've spent a good while making sure that everybody is tagged correctly in Faces and all the Places are correct.
My wife has then asked me for all of the photos with her and her grandma. Easy; I create a Smart Album with Match all of the following conditions: Face is "Clair" and Face is "Granny". I end up with a few dozen photos containing both of them.
Then she asks if we can just look at those which have both of them at the wedding reception. So I simply added an extra condition to the smart album of Place is "Reception". But instead of getting a handful of photos -- a subset of the previous album, as expected -- I end up with a few hundred pictures! This modified album is taking all those pictures which are at the correct place, but now have either Clair's or her grandmother's face in them.
Is there something obvious I've overlooked, or is this a genuine bug?
    Thank You,
    Warren Merrifield

I set it to "all", in both cases. If it's set to "any", I get even more results (all the pictures from the venue, regardless of who is is them plus all those with Clair in and all of those with her gran in).

  • Smart Album; unnamed face always has 1 person

    Hi,
I set up a smart album with 1 condition: Face is unnamed
There is always one photo stuck in there after the others are named.
It has 1 name associated with it.
As far as I can tell, there are no additional unnamed faces.
So why does it always show?
    Cheers, James

Has that one photo been edited at any time?  If so do a Revert to Original on it and check the smart album again.
It had. When I reverted to original image, I could see another face which I was able to remove.
Now I just need to re-apply the edits.
    Many thanks!

  • Smart Album with Unnamed Faces

Hi - I created a smart album containing all images with unnamed faces (using the "Face: is unnamed" filter), which I found useful for editing people's names. It had been working, but the folder now contains nothing even though I still have lots of images with unnamed faces. Tried deleting the old and creating a new smart album, quit and restarted Aperture a few times, and repaired the library, but still doesn't work. Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Peter O.

Not perfect, but better than nothing...
I created a Smart Album with a rule set that says "Must match All" and then five rules:
    Face does not include a
    Face does not include e
    Face does not include i
    Face does not include o
    Face does not include u
The album includes all pics with unnamed faces, but also all pics with no faces (e.g., landscapes).  I then scan thru looking for faces I want to name.
I also submitted a request to restore the real feature, as Terence recommended.

  • Smart Album Face Name Do Not Find Names within UTF-8 Chars

I am using Photos Version 1.0 (209.52.0). OS X Yosemite version is 10.10.3. I didn't convert the library from iPhoto and I've created a new one.
When I create a Smart Album with face name (even "Face is" or "Face includes" a name) with UTF-8 chars, (this name is in the faces exactly with UTF-8 chars), smart album cannot find the face. Always 0 items matched.
    Here is the screenshot.
    Anyone faces this problem ?

the same problem here. I cannot find faces with "Léonie" either.
File a bug report using the feedback form: Apple - Photos - Feedback
As a work-around, add a keyword to all photos in your Ayca stack of faces, without the ethnic characters in the name. Then search for the keyword.
Added:  The keyword can contain "é".  This rule is working:
    Keyword is Léonie
and "keyword is Ayça" also works.

  • Is there a way to find all 'Unknown Faces'?

Instead of going through all my, soon to be 20000, photos, I would like to just find the Unknown Faces.
    Is this possible?

I really hate that this "work-flow" is not part of iPhoto - as it is in Google's Picasa. I was really disapointed to find this out. Another thing is that Picasa actually groups similar pictures while showing unknown, to smooth the tagging and reducing keystrokes and mouse-use to a minimum.
The best solution I've had is to:
    1. create a smart album:
    a. match any
    b. name contains a
    c. name contains e
    ... (etc for all vocals)
    2. add a keyword you don't use (XXX) and assign a shortcut-key to it
    3. create another smart album:
    a. keywords does not contain XXX
    4. select all images in smart album 1.
    5. tag all of them using the keyword you created in 2
    6. have a look at images in smart album 2
    two major draw-backs:
    1. only images with ONLY unknown faces are shown
    2. images WITHOUT any faces are also shown (could be handy though to actually add images not detected, but should definitely be part of another work-flow, and thus not mixed in this one)
