Unknown item in Shared list

in the Shared list of my Finder window, I see an item that says npi9428a3. There are no computers on the network that I know of with this name. It appears as a computer with a blue screen on it. What is this?

Switching to WPA encryption is done on your wireless router. If you're using an Apple AirPort base station, open the AirPort Utility, select your base station and click the Manual Setup button. Next, click the Wireless tab, and change the pop-up labeled Wireless Security to one of the WPA options. (I use WPA/WPA2 Personal.) If it's not an Apple router, you'll need to read the documentation that came with it.
Changing the encryption to WPA (and, if you were using WEP before, changing the password as well) will lock anyone out who doesn't have the password.
As an aside, if there's a computer on your network that you can connect to, and if you have write access to that shared folder, you should create a text file in TextEdit that says something like "Hey, doofus! You need to make sure guests can't access your computer!", give it a noticeable name (something like "READ THIS YOU DIP!") and put it in that folder. That'll bring their own lack of security to their attention.

Why workflow? If you just need to send email then you can use "Alert Me" feature. If you want to approve the item via workflow then just create OOTB workflow from list settings page.

How do you add a reminder to a shared list in iCal

I'm trying to add a reminder to a shared list in iCal, but I do not see the list as an option in the "Get Info" window or in the "Calendar" menu list. This shared list was shared with me in iCloud, and if I log into iCloud.com, I can add the item there. I think I can also add via my phone, but I'm not sure. Also, I can see items in the shared list, and I can check them off. I just can't add.
I don't know if this is an iCloud issue, but I am able to add items in iCal to a shared list *I* created, just not to one that my wife created. Is there some setting in iCal to enable this?

It is not easy to see and I found it by messing around. First of all put them in daye order by dragging the screen down and touching the little alarm clock at the top. Then touch the space below the earlies reminder and a new one comes up. It defaults to 'today' so you have to touch the new reminder and then touch the 'i' button that appears. You can then change the date and time etc. No easy.
I dont understand why Apple do these thongs before updating the user guide!

Full Control User Cannot View Items in a List

User wants to view items on 2 lists (List A/List B)
I went ahead and inherited permissions the lists from the top level site.
Lists A and B say Manage Exceptions because all the items in the list are unique items.
After all permissions were inherited I gave both user "full control". I hopped on to their account, and navigated the site and found out that when I click View All Site Content, I see both lists and the item count next to each list (indicating
that there are items in List A/List B. When I click either list however, there are no items being displayed.
Seems to me it has a lot to do with the unique items. How do I make all the unique items inherit parent permissions. When I try to do it, it makes me edit each item one-by-one.

Please firstly verify that the problematic user account has no sufficient permission on unique items. You could check item permission via Item’s “Share With” > Advanced > Check Permission:

How to delete users from my shared list

I have users in my shared tab in the finder.
Some of these computers/users i dont know or dont what to have the risk of being to access my data.
How do i remove them?

Hotel WiFi, Privacy, and Computers appearing in Shared List

Hi everyone,
I am currently connecting to the internet via a free WiFi hotel connection. I've noticed several other computers in the shared list and I'm worried that someone would be able to see files on my own computer. I do not see my own computer in the list, but I'm wondering if the other computers can see me in the same way I see them.
I want to protect my computer from being seen and my files from being accessed. My firewall security was defaulted to "allow all incoming connections" but I just changed it to "allow only essential services." Also nothing is checked in the sharing folder. Does this mean my computer is invisible and protected now? Was it unprotected earlier?

The computers on the shared list are computers connected to the same network that are advertising that they are sharing resources (generally files). Their appearance in the sidebar is not connected with whether or not you are doing the same thing -- though it's important to realize that if you do have file sharing enabled, your computer *would not* appear in the sidebar.
Open System Preferences, click on the "Sharing" icon, and look to see if anything is shared. If so, you can disable it by unchecking the item from the list.
Note that even if something is share, others would still need your username and password to access your files. They can guess it, but it does limit how quickly they can do it. There's a folder called /Users/Shared/Public, and anything in there is accessible by guests, as are the user Public folders if you have file sharing turned on.
You computer will always be "visible" to other systems looking for other computers. Obviously, if you turn off file sharing, then it doesn't appear in a list of computers sharing files, but your computer will always be detectable by other systems on the same network as being present.
The firewall settings control, at a very low-level, how network traffic is treated when it reaches your computer. "Allow all incoming connections" does not enable services like file sharing, but would allow programs on your computer that have the ability to receive incoming connections to do so. Allow only essential services means that the default is to prevent incoming connections, except for services that you explicitly enable (e.g., if you turn on file sharing it adds it as an exception).
Your computer is never invisible. However, by not running any network services and by using the firewall, you limit the ability of others to access your machine.
That's not to say that you are safe. Keep in mind that you are still exchanging information with the outside world. Most of your web-traffic probably isn't encrypted, and others can see that (if they make an effort to do so), and chances are pretty good that you don't use encrypted e-mail, so they can see that too. Do business with a site that asks for a username and password but doesn't do so securely, well now everyone knows about it.
Incidentally, all of this is not Mac-specific but applies to all operating systems equally. The means for turning on and off services differs, but the basic premise applies to all of them.

Managing Entries in the "Shared" list

How can I delete the list of items showing up in the "Shared" list in the "Finder" menu? If I click on "Connect to Server" in the "Go" menu in the Finder I see some outdated entries, which I'd like to remove. Where is this list saved? The list includes some smb and afp entries that do not work anymore. I want to get rid of them.

Typically these are customers of your ISP who have enabled file sharing. The connection is through your ISP connection not through your wireless network. Just because you can see them does not mean that they can see your network or access your network.
You can test this theory by disabling your wireless network. If the shared PC hangs around you know that they have nothing to do with your wireless network.
You can also disconnect your base station from your ISP connection. If the shared PC disappears, you know that the connection is coming through your ISP.

Is your item getting added through Javascript client object model ? If yes, you can write in the success delegate of your list creation method the logic to create the subsite.

How to create a background image for each item in a List object

Hello.
I am trying to create a background image that displays whenever a user posts something to a list. For example when a user posts text it would appear in a list. The new item in the list would contain a specific background image with the users text appearing on top of the background image. I do not want a background image for the entire list, rather each item within the list.
I am not sure how clear this is so I added an image below. When a user enters text in and clicks the "post-it" button their text would appear below with the sticky note background.
I am not sure which list type would be best for this problem or how to create insert the image, so I am open to suggestions.

the easiest way would be with itemRenderer.
You have to do two things:
1. In your list declaration use a item renderer: <mx:List itemRenderer="myRenderer"/>
2. create a flex component myRenderer that will be the single item. This can be a canvas with a background image and a text field on it.
When you add a new item to the list, a new myRenderer item will be created and the data property will be passed to it. So you have to put "data" in your textField.
If you need more help try looking at Tour de Flex samples, they're pretty easy.

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to get a specific list item form a list which with more than 100000 items using C#.
I suggest you can use CAML Query with some condition and set Row Limit to specify the number of items to return.

How can I select an item from a list component with a seperate button

Hello Everyone,
This is my first post here. I am trying to figure out how to
select an item within a list component with a button. This button
is calling a function. I have searched for the past 3 hours online
and I can't find anything about it. I thought perhaps I could set
the selectedItem parameter, but that is read only, and I believe it
returns an object reference rather than something like a number so
even if i could set it, it would be pointless. I also found a get
focus button, thought that may lead me somewhere, but I think that
is for setting which component has focus currently as far as typing
in and things like that. I am lost.
Basically I am looking for a way to type this
myList.setSelected(5); where 5 is the 5th item in the list.
Any help would be much appreciated.

and it is writable
