thank you
What software is running when this happens? Does it happen at random, or only when you do some specific action? Can you provide more information about your system? Does it have any PCI cards installed? How about USB devices? Or FireWire? Extra RAM? Those kinds of things might help to point to a cause.
The cause is an "Uncorrectable machine check". That would seem to imply something wrong with hardware. If you search the 'net, you'll see that mentioned in connection with bad RAM, bad processor cache, bad or poorly seated AirPort cards. There's also a post or two that mention a conflict with Tiger and a recent version of Virtual PC causing that message in a panic log.
This page has a detailed guide to resolving kernel panics. Start at the top and run through the steps and see if anything turns up. Pay special attention to the part about running the Apple Hardware Test, since your panic log mentions a "machine check".

My kernel panic log doesn't have kext list
Usually kernel panic logs should contain list of kexts with their addresses, but my log have only the backtrace, but not the section starts with:
"Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):".
It was exists few hours ago, but now its gone. Does it related to the value of "boot-args=debug=0x144"?
Thanks!I think I found out the answer -
The backtrace log shows no kext in addresses, only pure kernel...
This make the debug much harder... -
Please help with a Kernel Panic Log
I was wondering if anyone could help me with my wife's kernel panic log. I have reseated her ram twice, and did the command option p +r to reset pram and she is still getting them. I can boot in safe mode with no kp's. I definitely don't know what I am doing just reading as many posts as possible. The computer is a Macbook Pro 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo upgrade to 6gb of ram about 6mths ago. The most recent change she has made when getting her first kp was at her new job she logged on to the wireless network and said she was getting a lot of page erros from sites. They are a PC based network, and that's all i really know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Current Flash - Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.235. Preference panes are in /Home/Library/Preference Panes/ or /Library/Preference Panes/. Also, search for SIMBL and remove all instances if you find it. Use EasyFind 4.9.
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
AppZapper 2.0.1
AppDelete 3.2.6
Automaton 1.50
Hazel
AppCleaner 2.1.0
CleanApp
iTrash 1.8.2
Amnesia
Uninstaller 1.15.1
Spring Cleaning 11.0.1
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Kernel Panic/Log file: what does it mean?
Hi,
I got the following Kernel Panic, but can't get a clue of what the log file is telling me. I guess it is related to a motherboard failure, but I'm not sure.
At the time the Kernel panic occured, my iBook wasn't doing much, but running Firefox 2.0.0.16, Airport Extreme and iPhoto 4.0.3. No USB device but a Logitech Mice was connected.
Can anyone help me with reading and understanding this Kernel Panic log.file? Thanks. Fred

Thanks for your answers. They do confirm my worth fears, since I do sometime have to start, pressing the palmrest below the Option-Command keys, or get the Blue Screen of Death. Since Apple has interrupted its Logic Board Replacement Programm, I guess there not much I can do, but to decide if I should buy an new Mac or not. My previous iBook, a G3, also died, slowly but surely, because of a logic board failure.
I'm really found of apple products, but I cannot afford just throwing my money away every two or three years. Sadly, I'm afraid I'll have to change side, and buy a Bill Gates friendly laptop.
Sad, sad, sad...
Bye, folks. -
Everyone: I;ve been having recurring kernel panics for the last few months. They've gotten really bad recently: I've had four in the past 72 hours, including two just 6 hours apart!
I've tried repairing disk permissions, performing a cache cleaning with Yasu, reseting the PRAM, used Techtool Pro to scan the computer, checked and verified that I have enough RAM and disk space, run the Apple hardware test, removed all applications from the Login Items (up in the upper right hand part of the screen).
Here is the kernel panic log for the most recent panic. Can anyone decipher this and tell me what's wrong????

Interpreting my iMac Kernel Panic Log
Hello, I recently purchased a new iMac (mid 2010) Q core i7 OSX10.6.8
I got two kernel panic in three days. I have on HD Cinema display connected and wacom tablet and a couple of hard drives. I also upgraded my RAM. Below is my kernel panic log which is way to complex for me to interpret. I will appreciate all help with interpreting what it says and what maybe be my issue.
Thanks!

The next thing was at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch which should be OK unless you are running a very old version.
I'd recommend unistalling the Aladdin software first per the manufacturers instructions, restarting in Safe Mode to clear some caches then restarting normally and finally test. If that does not do it then do the same with Little Snitch. -
I have a 15" aluminum G4 that's about 2.5 years old. I'm running OS 10.4.7. I've always had problems with kernel panics but I've learned to live with them -- until recently. They seem to be increasing in frequency; about 4 per day now. It usually happens when I'm online, which I often access via airport, though I'm plugged into a LAN at work. I use Firefox as a browser. I would appreciate any insight into the meaning of the following report from my computer's panic log and, I'm hoping, solutions to the problem. The log seems to show the same message consistently.

Thanks for your help in advance. - RickHi, Huskies81.
The panic log is flagging your AirPort card:
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.iokit.AppleAirPort2...
Be sure the AirPort card is installed properly and hasn't come loose.
If that doesn't solve it, see my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics.
My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein.
The "uncorrectable machine check" panic, i.e.
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x000A8E00): Uncorrectable machine check...
indicates a RAM problem, low-level programming error, or other hardware issue such as a defective processor or logic board problem. A faulty or improperly installed AirPort Card would qualify as "other hardware issue." However, even though the backtrace sections of the panic logs are flagging AirPort components, there may be other issues causing the panic and the AirPort components were merely engaged at the time of the panic. Hence why it is important to follow the troubleshooting roadmap in my FAQ.
Good luck!

After reading through the discussions, I have come to the conclusion that my computer is experiencing kernel panic. For the last two weeks it has been asking me to restart after I start up. I do- and then it seems to run ok- but very, very slowly.
So, I restarted in safeboot in order to delete any "recent or relevant" .kext files i found in system/library/extensions.
I did not find any that were recent except for itunes update.
so, i deleted the bootcache.ktext. and restarted.
upon restart, my computer was doing great until i pugged in my usb from my modem into the comptuer to connect to the internet. then got the restart screen.
then i checked the panic log and found this:

i don't know what this means- but i see some "usb" letters in there and wonder if this has anything to do with the external modem that my broadband company gave me. although i've been using it for a while and this has only happened recently.
next idea, is that i have recently installed third party software. I cannot determine what was the most recent (is there a log of this?) so i can uninstall it (and how do you go about uninstalling software- just trash it?)
I have recently installed Skype software for VOIP- but i've had it for a month now and this has only happened in the last 2 weeks. I'd unistall it but do not know how.
If someone could look at that log and decipher it- that would be great.
and- honestly, i need a true step by step plan to slove the issue.
thanks!!!I will run the test after work today- do I just put in the installation disk or do i need to be in safe boot mode?
I think yours is a good theory- that would explain why my computer is suddenly sooo slow.
If my memory did get knocked out of place- will i have to send it in to be repaired?
But then again- how could this be connected to the USB port?
i've repaired permissions yesterday before the posting. it found lots of errors and said it repaired them. do i need to run it again until it doesn't find any?
The other thing i'm wondering is that I only have 17 days left on my warranty- Should I purchase applecare? i used to think this was ripoff but now i might be singing to a different tune.
Thanks for your help- i'll let you know how it goes this evening. -
Kernel panic log - can anyone help me decipher?
I posted this in the Leopard discussion group, but didn't get much response. Can anyone here help me figure out what is causing kernel panics on my iMac G5? Here is the log for the latest one (they all seem to be the same):

I just replaced my hard drive and installed Leopard. The hard drive seems to be functioning perfectly, so I'm suspecting it's related to Leopard. I never had a kernel panic until the upgrade. I'm considering going back to Tiger. Thoughts?
Thanks for any help with this.I upgraded 3 days ago to leopard and have had 5 or six kernel panics. I had the machine running panther for years and never had one before. All similar to what has been described in this thread. I have not been able to get through a time machine back-up all the way yet. I am afraid to leave the machine with time machine active now because the panic mode I get into usually puts the fan on full blast- Can't be good to run for hours like that. I am backing up a lot of files so I wonder if the size of the initial backup is causing the problem. I have gotten through about 150 GB worth with time machine before the crashes set in. If I make any progress I'll post.

I have had continuous problems with my computer. First Apple said it was the Ram...replaced...same thing still happening. So they said oh, must be the logic board...replaced...still happening. Glad I have apple care or i might be more angry. ha.
Basically not sure what is going on.. i have tried to figure out if its a software issue. But it happens at different times. It did seem related to internet use. But turned all that off and worked in photoshop and it happened anyway.
Love the gray screen with all the languages telling me my computer is whack and wants to restart, they must know how i like to brush up on my foreign languages...but i feel that i have learned all i can at this point.
I am copy and pasting my panic log, so anyone who might understand what it is saying. Please shed some light on what i can try to do now.
I use airport to connect to internet. FYI.
Here it is (its long, happens frequently after all)

Kernel panic log: can someone decipher this for me, if possible?
My brother has an iMac G4 with 512 MB of RAM. This computer used to be fine and then a few months ago, it started having random kernel panics. He wiped the drive and reinstalled the OS and it was fine for about 3 months.
Now it's kernel panicking randomly about 2 times a day, when checking email or burning a CD or just browsing the web. I can cause it to panic every time I try to repair the permission. On a hunch, I removed the user Library folder, logged out and back in again. The OS created a new user Library folder. I then tried repairing permissions. No panic. Through a process of elimination, I narrowed the culprit down to several preference files, including a couple of login-related plists. Individually none of these plists caused the panice, but together they did.
So I deleted those plists and used fresh ones. I tried repairing permissions. First time, no panic. Second time, no panic. Third time, panic.
I can't figure out what's messing his system up. He has an external hard drive, a printer, usb camera, and an iPod attached. Disconnecting those doesn't stop the kernel panics. I also ran Apple's Hardware Test several times and it found nothing.
Here is the panic log. I would really appreciate someone's input and suggestions.

Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)
The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values. -
Kernel Panic (log included)
I'm having multiple Kernel Panics, and they are increasing. I have a July 2012 MacBook Pro (15"), retina display. 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Running OS X 10.7.4
I sometimes run both Firefox and Chrome, but the problem is not consistent enough based on what I'm running. Should I call AppleCare? Should I wait for a patch (i.e. just tough it out until then?)? Thanks.

From what we know so far, the problem is a software one (Apple's fault), not a hardware problem. Mountain Lion is supposed to fix the issue, which should be out in about a week. So you could wait til then, upgrade to ML, and see if its still crashing or not.

Would anyone be so kind to tell me what these panic logs state so that I may continue to narrow down my issues? I have more, but these are the most recent ones and I think they look identical, but I could be missing something. Thank you in advance...

Glad you were able to boot after removing the Airport Card.
I've wiped the drive and reinstalled the OS 10.5.2...still acting weird.
Wiping and re-installing is not a diagnostic technique, and should usually be considered the avenue of last resort.

I think this is where you problem lies, although, I have to admit, I am not sure exactly what it is. I seems as if something is amiss with some system software library. Here's what I suggest:
• Download Mac OS X 10.5.3 Combo Update
• Repair Disk Permissions in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
• Install downloaded Combo update
• Repair Disk Permissions as previously.
Let me know if it helps.

How do I interpret a kernel panic log? (Here's one)
I apologize if there have been too many threads on kernel panics (and I'm adding to them). But Monday had my first one with my 2.5DP G5 POwerMac. I hadn't done anything unusual, only replying to an email, when the main screen greyed out, requesting that I restart using the power button.
Ten days ago, I installed Leopard. I also ran Disc Warrior, cleaned the preferences, etc. just to clean things up. I have the keyboard attached to the Belkin USB hub, instead of my usual direct connection to the box.
So, here is the log file as it reads. Can someone point out what the culprit may be? I have since run Apple Hardware Test, everything passed (running a total of 2.5GB Crucial memory). Thanks in advance.

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task
|.8Hi Chet-
The first line after "backtrace" identifies the location, and describes the process involved at the time of the panic.
In this case, "com.apple.iokit.IOATABlockStorage" is indicated. This can be caused by a bad hard drive, internal or external, corrupt kernel in the OS BSD, or by a problem with the ATA controller on the logic board.
The panic occurred during data access "Unresolved kernel trap(cpu 1): 0x300 - Data access" which resulted in the CPU stumbling over some bad instruction occurring during the data access. "BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task" indicates the problem to be/have occurred at the root level of the system.
Determining whether the problem is hardware or software based, is the problem, and can take quite a bit of effort.
To troubleshoot, the AHT was a good start. Would recommend running Rember just to get a second opinion on the RAM.
Of course, you need to disconnect all external devices, except keyboard, mouse and monitor. If you use an external hard drive, definitely disconnect it, run for a while, and see if the panic occurs again. If panics still occur, you need to look at the internal drive.
Running the computer in Safe Mode, or in a new user account, are ways of confirming whether or not the problem is software based. If panics occur in Safe mode, hardware is more than likely the culprit. Same goes with a new user account.
Since the Leopard install is relatively new, and, I assume that you installed on the old, original hard drive in your Mac, it may be worth while to zero the drive (one pass) and reinstall the OS. Especially if you installed over Tiger, or previous OS version, there could be a bit or two on the hard drive that isn't right, raising the potential for kernel panic. That said, a drive, even zeroed, can cause problems if failing.
Since it has only happened once, you may just want to take a "wait and see" approach. If a panic occurs in the near future, note the log (well done) and begin the trouble shooting.

Missing Kernel Panic log - A concern?
Hi, all,
I just purchased a new 13" MBP with Snow Leopard. The machine has been running fine up until tonight, when I got a kernel panic out of nowhere. Fine, I understand that weird things can happen, so I start looking for logs to see what went wrong.
pwmoore57@megatron ~$ cd /Library/Logs/
pwmoore57@megatron Logs$ ls -al
total 40
drwxrwxr-x 6 root admin 204 Jan 20 23:20 .
drwxrwxr-t+ 58 root admin 1972 Jan 20 23:20 ..
-rw-r--r--@ 1 pwmoore57 admin 6148 Jan 20 23:21 .DS_Store
drwxrwxr-x 13 root admin 442 Jan 20 23:21 DirectoryService
-rw-r--r-- 1 root admin 7238 Dec 20 10:46 LKDC-setup.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root admin 1170 Dec 20 10:47 SystemMigration.log
I found that not having a panic log was a little more disconcerting than the panic occurring. So far the panic has occurred just once, but I'm worried it will happen again and I won't have any way of troubleshooting.
So... should I be concerned? DO I have to configure anything to enable panic logging?
Thanks!Try removing, then replacing, the memory modules. If they are a tiny bit loose that can cause a kernal panic.
If that doesn't work, I would still suspect a hardware issue. Possibly a loose connector somewhere if you are lucky; screen or keyboard maybe?
Although not impossible I guess, I don't mean the HDD failing. That would present other symptoms. I mean a hardware problem not necessarily picked up by diagnostic software.
I myself had a persistent kernal panic several years ago on an eMac that I own. It was due to a hardware fault. I had upgraded my eMac with a WiFi card inserted into a slot designed for it (WiFi was relatively new at the time and it was an upgrade option on the eMac).
The actual slot for this WiFi card was soldered to the motherboard by a 'robot' that used very little (or maybe sub-standard) solder. Consequently when I inserted the new WiFi card the stress of doing so (albeit gently) was enough to put a fine hairline crack in one or more of the solder joints where the WiFi card slot connected to the motherboard. At least that's what I recall the Engineer telling me. Took him almost a week to track the blighter down, but he did it, bless him.
In fact it might pay you to take it back to the shop you purchased it from, sooner rather than later, and ask them to get it checked out by an Engineer. Don't do what I did and spend almost two years in frustration, losing everthing on the HDD when I wiped it, trying to work out what the heck was going on. I assume from your post, where you say your MBP is new, that the machine is possibly still under warrenty.
