Unknown members not displayed during lock and send

Hi We are on 11.1.2
A user is using lock & Send to update approx 3000 rows of data. The issue is, some members do not exist in outline any more.
so Display unknown members is Ticked ON in Global properties to make it easy to find the unknown members, but its not displaying any unknown members.

How about the "Display Messages"? Is it set to None? It'll not show unknown members if display messages is set to none.

Has anyone ran into a problem when you do a lock and send to essbase and you have the "Display Unknown members" turn ed on. We are running 6.5.3. We do get an error message but it does not identify the unknown members. The error message we get is "Spreadsheet Extractor internal error: invalid spreadsheet table."

Make a copy of the file and try retrieving into the sheet. That should identify the unknown members for you.Tim

Page not displaying in Safari and Internet explorer but showing up in Mozila

Hi,
I bought this pre-made template which I would like to use for my website. When I upload it to my website and try to open the pages like "Contact us", "News", "Team members" and so on, they are not displaying in Safari and Interner Explorer, but they DO show up in Mozilla. Also, the pages I created myself do show up in all browsers. I really need to fix this problem as I already put a lot of effort to create my web site and now it is not working online. Lock and Send Issue

Hi,
My main motive is to do a Lock and send. My Scenario is like this:
I have a Planning App on 9.3.1. I have created 20 groups and assigned the users to the group. I have given the Write Access to the Group on Planning side. On Shared Services side, I have provisioned the group with Essbase Server access and Planning Essbase Write Access. Now I am able to connect to this App through Excel Addin. However when i am trying to do a Lock and Send, it says You do not have sufficient permission to perform a lock on this database.
Please advise. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Few questions
Have you applied all the security to the dimensions in planning and then pushed the filters to essbase.
Have you checked the filters are correct in essbase.
In your excel addin options check that "Update Mode" is not ticked.

Cannot Lock and Send data to an Essbase cube

Hi all,
One of our customer is executing a Macro script to lock and send data to the essbase cube from an excel sheet.
They reported that in several cases where users will submit their data, and later discover that their changes are not in Essbase.
The calls to EssVRetrieve (to lock the blocks) and EssVSendData are both returning successfully and there is no error message received while executing the above macros.
I reviewed the application log file and found the following message:
[Mon Nov 24 18:59:43 2008]Local/Applicn///Warning(1080014)
Transaction [ 0xd801e0( 0x492b4bb0.0x45560 ) ] aborted due to status [1014031].
I analysed the above message and found the user is trying to lock the database when already a lock has been applied to it and some operation is being performed on it. Because of that the transaction has been aborted. But customer says no concurrent operation is being performed at that time.
Can anyone help me in this regard.

The error message for error 1014031 is 'Essbase could not get a lock in the specified time.' The first thought I have is that perhaps some user/s have the 'Update Mode' option set in their Essbase Options and thus, when they are retrieving data, they are inadvertantly locking the data blocks. If that is the case, you will probably see this issue sporadically as the locks are automatically released when the user disconnects from Essbase.
To make it stop, you will have to go to every user's desktop and make sure they have that Essbase Option turned off. Further, you will have to look at any worksheets they may use that may have an Essbase Option name stored on it. The range name is stored as a string and includes a setting for update mode. Here is a sample that I created for this post where I first turned 'on' update mode and then turned 'off' update mode:

Note the 11th character in the first string is '1' which indicates that Update Mode is 'on'; in the second string, it is 'off'.
This behavior, particularly with update mode, is the only one of the behaviors that I disliked in Excel and pushed me to design our Dodeca product. In Dodeca, the administrator controls all Essbase options and can either set individual options to the value they want or they can allow the user to choose their own options. Most of our customers do not allow the user to set update mode.

Lock and send ASO

Hi,
We are running Essbase version 11.1.1.2 and Smartview 11.1.1.2 (Build 122).
I have some users that would like to load some data via Excel into an ASO cube. I am aware this would be slower than using BSO.
I have tried both HSSETVALUE and the ad-hoc with submit data and I get an error 'You do not have sufficient access to perform a lock on this database'.
I am pretty sure this is because of the 'lock and send' nature of submit data and the fact you can't lock a block on ASO because no blocks exist.
I have read something about the 'classic add-in' having the option of not locking before sending. What is this? I actually don't think I have it. I have Excel 2010 and everything is consolidated under one ribbon I think from memory.
What are my options? The cube is big and an ASO for a reason, there's a large number of big dimensions. I could change the Excel sheets to load to SQL Server and run via a rules file. But I would rather load from Excel.

In either Smart View or the Add-In and put in a different number and submit it (Smart View) or Send (add-in), it works. Of course I'm logged in as the admin.

Filter on Lock and Send access in System 9

Hi All,
Is there a way to do a partial lock and send in a planning application using filters or other means?
To explain what I mean:
I have a scenario in planning which is supposed to be open for Q1'09. For rest of the periods, the scenario doesn't allow me to update numbers in planning. Can something similar be achieved in Essbase where we can lock and send # for a particular period?
Any insights to the above are really appreciated.

If you provision a Planner to have the Essbase Write role in Shared Services, what does the filter look like?
I am guessing you have gone down this road and did not see write filters around Time. Is that correct?
If the above statement was true, it would make the Write function pretty worthless -- after all, the ability to turn time periods on and off through the Scenario dimension is one of the key pieces of controlling a budget.
For my edification (and probably some others as well), would you create a single user with that Essbase Write role (this is assuming he is a Planner, with restrictions around open time periods), refresh Planning security, pull that user's filter, and then post it in this forum? I'm very curious to see if the role is worth using. I'm still guessing that that role will do what you want.

Essbase Trigger for SS Lock and Send

I need to create a Trigger using EAS for any Lock and Send activity through Spreadsheet Add-In. Please guide me in developing the script, I can't figure out what to put in the Where and When condition in the Trigger window. Can't find any example on net.

ok, I stand corrected. You can use a on-update trigger to capture changes. Thinking about it, you would have to create a where and when clause that would always return true. Like
Where [scenario].currentmember
when [scenario].currentmember <> [scenario].currentmember + 1
I would suspect you would wnat to use the logging for this not send an email. This will spool the before and after values. I have not tried it, but I don't think it captures the information on who did it. that is why I would go the ssaudit route. In 11.1.1 you have transaction logging.

Lock and Send Crashes Excel

Hi all,
I tried to perform the "Lock and Send" operation in Excel add in and upon performing the operation, my Excel got crashed. Essbase version is 9.3.1 and excel version is 2003.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the Essbase client but that did not fix the issue.
Can anyone help me on the above?

Lock and Send

Hi,
If i am using "Lock and Send" method for data loading for a particular combination, is it possible to add up the data entered for the second time rather than over writing the data entered for the first time?

No...it's not possible to add up with existing data.
"Lock and Send" can perform action to overwrite/Update the data with help of Essbase Excel add-in.

Lock and send issues

Hi,
I have essbase 11.1.2.2 and I have a BSO cube. I am doing lock and send for a intersection. After lock and send when i retrieve the data i can see the data. But after running CALC ALL when I retrieve I am unable to see the data.
I am not sending data to Level 2. Am i doing the correct way to load data since I am not updating at Zero level.
Can you please let me any possible reasons for this issue.

I'm not clear from your question whether you are, in fact, loading data at level-zero in all dimensions. If you aren't, then your calc may be overwriting the number you have sent by simple consolidation.
It is also possible that you are loading to a stored member that has a formula on it, and when the CALC ALL runs the formula is being executed and overwriting your loaded number.
A third option is that a formula on another member overwrites the value on a member to which you are loading, but this is a less common situation.

Restrict lock and send data in Hyperion Planning

Hi All,
I am working on a planning application version 11.1.2.1.I have users who use excel add in to submit data.The issue is when they submit forecast it messes up the data for the previous periods actual.For ex if they have to submit forecast for Aug onward , but their spreadsheet has data from jan to dec then my jan to july data gets messed up because of the upload.In essbase application,we can restrict them by creating UDA's and filters.
I need some suggestions for the planning application.I can modify the planning filters in essbase but again it would be very tedious job to go into each filters and modify and the worst part would be if we do refresh security next time,it will overwrite the filters.
Please guide me through this.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is different business units have different excel models with many tabs and those tabs are linked to each other .They have a tab for essbase upload which gets generated by the other tabs.They are using macros which selects the range and do lock and send. I cannot take away their essbase write access because they are very comfortable using excel add-in and they are not ready to change the process as well for atleast now.
How can i restrict in smartview?
Please let me know what is the standard process across the hyperion world for this scenario.

If you have the Excel addin installed on your machine, there should be a file called Sampvba.xls in the following folder

Currency members not displayed on Essbase

Environment:* EPMA version 11.1.2.1
As part of multicurrency, we have added the two members EUR and USD in *‘Currency’* dimension to perform currency conversion and then re-deploy application. Deployment has done successful without any error. But members not displayed in Essbase as expected.
We have setup default application currency and reporting currency as GBP.

1.     Yes. Outline created, we have used the option Refresh and Full Deploy
2.     Not having access to server. But if you particular log file then let me know the name. I will try to arrange the log file.
3.     I have added two new member RUB and CAD. But problem remain same, these member not displayed under currency dimension. But it will displayed successfully under HSP_Rates with names ‘HSP_Rate_RUB’ and HSP_Rate_CAD’. It means functionality working fine, but not displaying member. If it won’t display then I can’t create currency conversion script.

Lock and Send problem

I have problem with Essbase Add-in not locking and sending. We can get it to lock and send once on a new app, but can't do subsiquent locks. Is there a setting issue? We have two servers, one Essbase 6.1.3a and NT4.0, the other Essbase 6.5.3 and Win2K and both have same problem. I would appreciate any help offered.

If the data is in the ATX file, I would say your lock and send is working.I am trying to work out what "doesn't work" means ... do you get #missing when you do a retrieve or just an old value?You say this works on a new app ... i.e. is this an EMPTY app? ie. does the first entered value retrieve back into Excel?It is possible that you have an implicit share issue here ie. one parent/one child situations in the hierarchy.
