Unknown people harrassing me

Hello, I have been receiving daily requests to add unknown people to my contact list. These people also send me messages through chat and it is very annoying to read these messages. For the past year I have been blocking these people and reporting it as abuse, but the problem hasn't been fixed. My settings are fine, they are all put on "only friends can contact me", but I still seem to receive these very abusive spam. Please give me some information that I can use to prevent this. My daughter also has a skype and luckily she doesn't have that problem. So there must be something I can change, even though my daughter and I have the same settings.

    Hi Ostende238...and ty for your post. I've had Skype for at least 5 yrs and never had this problem. In one week, I've had to people wanting me to add them to my contact list.
   My settings have always been for privacy, so since this is so recent and my settings have not been changed, I think this is a Skype security problem - maybe from an update? idk.
    My question here is...did you ever get an answer to the problem?

I noticed that after I linked Facebook to my iphone, I had tons of new entries in my Contacts. I found a way to turn that feature off. Perhaps that's your problem with randoms joining in on your convos.
Yep, follow the instructions listed by the guy above me. I also did this: Settings ---> Facebook ---> Contacts: Off (allow these apps to use ur account). That cleared out all my Facebook friend phone numbers from my Contact list on my phone. Hope this helps. Updating an os should not require oodles of work on our end.

I keep getting contact requests from unknown people

Ever since I created my skype account, which was a few months ago, I've been getting a bunch of contact requests from people claiming to be in the army, and wanting to hook up and date me? I have absolutely no idea who these people are or why this is happening, or if someone has put my skype name onto Craigslist or something like that. But, if anyone knows how, I would like to know how to make it so that people can't sent me contact requests, meaning that I would have to send them one, if possible. I had been getting a lot more contact requests from these supposed soldiers in the first month or so after creating my account. So if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, that'd be great.

Not in any particular order, try these pro-active tactics:
Check your privacy settings to ensure your account is set to receive calls and IM's from people on your contact list only. Remember to click Save if you make any adjustments. If you happen to sign on at another location or device, check the privacy settings immediately! I found this out when I signed on using a new operating system I am learning; much to my horror, my account privacy settings defaulted to settings I never leave "open" on my other locations.
Clear your profile of any details - scrub it clean. Leave all settings as "blank" or "not specified," particularly the Gender setting.
Post a bland, neutral picture or avatar rather than a snapshot or "selfie."
Remember to Block and Report as Abuse all of these rogue, unwanted contact requests. Ignoring them makes them go away temporarily; they will return and probably bring their so-called "friends" with them once they know they have a lead on a working, active Skype account name.
Despite the popularity of it, consider disassociating your Skype account from your FaceBook account.
You may also contact Skype Customer Service to request your account be removed from the search directory.

Unknown People's B'day in My iCal

So I'm scrolling through iCal on my iPhone 4, to plan my vacation, and I come across Jessica Meister's Birthday notation along with Marlin Cohen's and Isabel Cohen's. Cool? Notsomuch. It would be - if I knew these people, but I don't. I have never synced my phone with anyone else's computer or phone and my MacBook Pro's iCal does not have these notations.
How could this be? Is it possible for someone on the train to pull data off or plant data on my phone wirelessly without my knowing? How about when I'm at the coffee shop using their wifi signal? This is really weird.

Hmmm... Have you double checked the address book on you Mac just to confirm they're not there? Are you subscibed to any calendars that might contain these? Is there any chance they're being pulled from an Exchange server?

Can I have a ringtone for people on my contact list and a different tone for unknown people?

I want to have a ringtone for people one my contact list and a different tone for people not on my contact list, which for me is always commercial that I do not even want to pick up.

To do this, you would have to assign the ringtone to each contact individually, and then set the default tone to something different under the Sounds menu in Settings.

New (unknown) people on my bonjour buddy list

hi folks,
so here's a weird one... a week or two ago, i noticed other users on my bonjour buddy list at my studio... just as a precaution, i changed the password on my wireless router, shut it down, and powered in back up, in the event these folks were piggybacking onto my wireless signal, but they're still there.
i even went so far as to message one of them, asking (as politely as i could) if they were on my network, and they promply disappeared without responding.
any idea on this? it's probably not a big deal, but i'm just curious.

Unfortunately for the Bonjour side of things it is a little more difficult to be as secure as you wnat.
It is Zero Confiuration and that does not need any routing or other settings for the Mac to discover other Macs.

One wat is to change the Workgroup name that Rndezvous/Boinjour uses to do this.
In Applications/Utilities open Directory Access
If needed use the padlock and your Admin password.
Click on the line with SMB at the bottom of the list
Click the Configure Button.
In the Popout change the WORKGROUP name to something that only you would know/use.
Click Ok/Apply.
This should stop other people accessing your Network via Bonjour or it's previous name Rendezvous.

N97: Can you set a ringtone for all unknown caller...

I just moved to a Nokia N97 from a Palm Treo Pro. So far so good, but one thing I cannot seem to find any information on is whether or not you can set ringtones for all unknown callers, like you can on a palm? This was one of my favorite features for palm phones.
If you cannot set a specific ringtone for all unknown callers on the handset itself, does anyone know of an application I can download that would enable this?

While you're waiting for that application. You can put everyone in a group and set specific tones for each group then the default ring tone will sound when unknown people call you

People disappears from Faces

This has happened two times now: People suddenly disappears from faces.
The first time it happened in a converted library. I tagged between 2000 and 3000 pictures covering about 20 people before two persons disappeared and a three other involuntarily got their name changed (person A became person B, and person B lost all the tagged pictures). If I clicked the little "i" for information it still had the original persons name and email address under Full name and Email.
I thought it had something to do with the converted library, so I started to import my pictures into a new clean A3 library. I took one project at a time and tagged all the pictures before importing the next. I had no problems until I had tagged around 3000 pictures (again). All of a sudden, while tagging one person, I got kicked back to the cork wall. In two seconds one person, with 1800 pictures tagged, disappeared. The previously tagged pictures started to show up in the film strip as unknown people.
I figured out that the information is stored in faces.db, a SQLite database. I opened it up with an SQLite browser, and under RKFaceName there was no record of the person at all. All the other people had their name stored, except the one that disappeared.
How can this happen? How can information about 1800 pictures disappear from a database in 2 seconds? The performance in aperture 3 is slow overall, but it has no problem forgetting a truckload of supposedly saved information. I quit the library and Aperture at least once a day to save the progress. If I had known better I would have backed up faces.db.
I really like the idea of face recognition and the possibilities for combined searches it opens up for, but right now it's unusable for me.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I have had a number of issues with Faces. For example, I reviewed a number of photos in photo mode. Most photos had some assignments already from the face-centric mode. I assigned names to some in photo mode, and added faces where they weren't detected. When I came back to the photo, most (but not all) faces that I added were missing. Names that I had assigned before in face-centric mode were missing. Coming back the second or third time was futile. When I restarted Aperture, the changes were missing.
I have too many faces defined to notice if any are missing, but it would not surprise me.

Unknown contacts and appointments after upgrade, what happened?

I traded in my 4 for the new 5 the other day and after backing the 4 up to the cloud i setup my new 5. After it was finished i had a large number of unknown people and appointments on my phone. I have noticed also that some of my known contacts info has changed. What the heck has happened?

that's not really something that we can help you with since we can't see your account. i would definitely call applecare if i were you

Harrasement from unknown contacts , privacy settin...

For the past 3 weeks i keep getting ims from people that are not on my contactlist , trying to chat with me .
Even though all my privacy settings are set to allow only people in my contact list to IM me , everyday i get atlest 10 new ims from unknown people that are not on my list.
Further more all the people happen to be male trying to chat with me .
I updated to the latest version of skype and i got to privacy settings and revert to basic settings and turn the setting to be contacted only by people in my list . I press save and when i go back to the tab , the setting is always automatically switched back to allow everyone .
This is getting very annoying and is a complete breach of privacy .
I do not wish to be contacted or receive IMs from anyone that is not on my contact list as i have stated through my privacy settings.
I await you to resolve this problem Asap please.

unfortunately, there is no option yet to block/filter contact requests (which now also appears like an IM message), regardless if they are requests from legitimate users or from possible spammers/scammers. The only things you can do at the moment is indeed to ignore and block them (and report them to abuse@skype,net).
The Privacy Settings in Skype can only prevent/stop unwanted calls/instant messages from non-contacts, not contact requests.

Bluetooth and network with other people I don't know...?

Hi, I am a recent convert to apple and I was just looking over my settings on my mac and noticed that there were two or three people on my network. I have no idea who these people are and my bluetooth was on so that I can send things to my cell phone. Should I be concerned about my privacy? I also turned off all the windows sharing and file sharing settings, but when the bluetooth was on - these unknown people (one name was Cat Hackman, not very reassuring) appeared again. I would really appreciate any feedback on my issue and any tips for a newbie with lovely mac computer that I really enjoy immensely.

Hi, to answer Trevor's question tovex does appear as a blue ball in a box in the 'network' level. The ball is kinda greyed out not fully shaded like my 'servers' ball. However, when I press 'get info' on tovex it says it is an alias and also I am not allowed to make any changes.
To answer myhighway, under my system pref > network is shows my 'built in ethernet' as the active connection (green signal). The connection is through a cable modem. I have not installed bootcamp/windows
BTW there is a new person on there as well called 'fs 20 20's computer', this one just showed up when I turned on my mac today. They disappeared just now but they were on my system while I typed this post.

What is the point of unknown friend requests?

I don't get it. Why are unknown people asking to be accepted as friends on my Skype account? I reject anyone that I don't know, but I'm sure there's a reason why they are doing this. I just can't figure out what it would be.

I guess the point of the indented lists is to provide the user with some description of the topic’s contents. It's a standard convention in the table of contents of books. It might pay to break your course down into a number of courses if the list of topics is getting too unwieldy.

How does it come that I have pictures in my phone stream I've never taken?

I opened my picture app this morning and found pictures I've never taken. They are pictures from unknown people in probably another country. How can this happen? THAT is really strange. The same issue happened to my fiance. What is going on?
I really think that there is a bug in the cloud which somehow allows to put pictures in the wrong ID. If so... that is a nasty bug which needs to be taken care of immediately!
I have iOS 8.1.1 on my 5s.

That message is just a standard one issued, mainly for Windows users, you can disregard it if you didn't install any anti-virus. (OS X has one installed by Apple that doesn't interfere)
It's just some forms of anti-malware are really paranoid and lock the entire machine down. (like Norton)

Sorry to read this, but you have landed in wrong place. This forum is aimed at IT professionals.
From your contribution I guess that you are not very careful
and allow bad people to compromise you computer and data.
Ask a specialized company for help. As doctor cannot heal remotely, at least real doctors, we cannot heal your computer and your feelings.
Do not include telephone number, bank account, personal data and other sensitive data
everywhere in internet if you are not sure enough.... Think ten times when you respond to unknown people in e-mail communication as well as do not respond to known people when there is request for personal or bank data or at least something "strange".
Adapt security standards. Start here to have some insight into problem
