I might be able to piggy back on your thread. First of all have you triedd stopping the service though task manager? Do that and see if there is an error message. I hope someone can suggest a registry hack that may solve this IPOD service issue.

  • Problems with iTunes, please help

    Hey:
This is my problem... I just bought and iPod Nano and installed the iTunes software, and at the beginning it was working perfect, then my computer started doing weird stuff every time iTunes was on and it even got me the blue screen of death (I have a PC and my OS is Windows Vista Ultimate) so I had to restart my computer.
After doing it, I cant open iTunes anymore. Each time I do I get first a message that says "iTunes has stopped working. Windows is looking for a solution to the problem.", after that I get a message that says "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if any solution is available."
Then I get a windows that says this:
    "Download updates for iTunes
This problem was caused by iTunes. iTunes was created by Apple Inc..
    Solution
A newer version of iTunes is available for download that will address this problem. Apple Inc. recommends updating to the latest version of iTunes to take advantage of security and stability improvements.
Go to the Apple Inc. website and install the latest version of iTunes:
    Apple Inc."
But Im already running the last version and Ive even desinstalled and installed the software twice. I dont know what else to do and without iTunes, my iPod Nano is worth nothing.
These r the details of the problem Im getting:

What happens if you try to start Quicktime? Does it work normally? I am guessing that it doesn't, but describe what happens with any error message in full.
I am jumping the gun with the troubleshooting sequence here, but ...
Have installed any of the following - ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, also WinAVI video converter. These are know to cause problems with QUicktime and need to be uninstalled.
ANyway I suggest you do a complete removal of iTunes and associated programs followed by a phased install of QUicktime then iTunes.
Download a new copy of iTunes and the stand alone Quicktime installer:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Use the follwing method to remove the programs:
    XP
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
    Vista
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305409
Install Quicktime and check if it works, then install iTunes.
    Does it work now?
This has been based on the assumption that QUicktime doesn't work, if it is OK here is an iTunes troubleshooting link:

  • Can't install itunes, PLEASE Help

Hello! first of all thanks for clicking on this and having a look at my issue.
I have a problem with downloading itunes, it goes all through the installation gets to the end and comes up with this nonsense error message anyone know what this is about? please help, thanks!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Error won't let me install iTunes - please help !

When I have tried to download the latest version of iTunes so that I can update my iPhone the software won't install correctly. I even un-installed iTunes and tried from scratch.
I get so far then get the error message "Could not write value to key \software\classics\itunes.m4r verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnal".
I'm using Vista and had turned off the spyware software and have administration rights.
Can anyone help please, at the moment I have no iTunes !!!!
    Thanks

Could you confirm the full error message and is it identical when you try to install and uninstall?
These permission issues can be tricky.
To start you need to download the iTunes installer from:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
And save it on your PC. ( You may already have done that.)
Try running it with "Run as Administrator". (You can access this by right clicking on the installer.
You can also try running the installer from another administration account.
Failing that, find the key mentioned in the error message using Regedit. I assume it is HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\iTunes.m4r
Right click on it an select permission then advanced. Apart from some other permissions, you should have Administrators and SYSTEM with full control, inherited from ...software\classes and it should apply to this key and sub-keys.
    Is that what you have?

and when I click on OK, the window closes and I can't get any further in trying to download iTunes. I've tried all the tips on the website, I've deleted all temp files, deleted Quicktime player and tried to re-download that, I've used the msconfig and turned off all applications that may interfer with the download, including my firewall, but so far nothing has worked!!! I even emailed the customer support but they told me I'd sent my request to the wrong place and they were no help at all, except to tell me to download the latest version of iTunes!!! I would if I could, but I can't!!!
Please does anyone have any ideas on how I can get iTunes on my computer so my computer recognises my iPod?!?! I don't even want to get music off iTunes, I just want to get my music off my computer and I can't do that without iTunes!!!
Any ideas would be fantastic as I'm about to crack up!!!

Ok so I got a disc from a friend who recently, and successfully, installed iTunes to see if that would help. I managed to save the iPod Updater (whatever that is) but then I got an error message saying "1628: Failed to complete installation", so still no iTunes. I've tried to uninstall amd reinstall my USB ports to see if that would help but still nothing!! Does anyone know if there is a file that you can put directly onto your iPod that allows any computer that it's plugged into to recognise it so music can be synced from Windows Media Player without the need for iTunes?
Oh and thanks to everyone who's replied, it's really appreciated even if I'm still as frustrated as ever!!!

  • Error While Installing Itunes (Please help)

Alright, just went on apple.com, installed the newest itunes, and downloaded the setup, started the installation, and it stops at one part that says stopping services. Now i have no clue what that means or what its doing, but after about 10 minutes it pops up a message that says.

Now, ive retried it and it just does the same thing. Please someone tell me what to do. Ive completely cleared every single thing that had to do with itunes off my computer then redownloaded and installed it. Nothing works. I am on the admin account on my computer, and always will be, so nothing different there. I had itunes before, and it worked, but it stopped opening, like i could click it and it would act like its loading, then nothing would open. So i tried this today and this is what ive been getting for the past few hours. Please respond ASAP.

After a recent necessary restore, I went to the iTunes shortcut on my desktop to open the application and I receive the error message "that action is only available for products that are currently installed". So I attempted to re-download iTunes, however I am receiving the error message "older version of iTunes cannot be removed. Contact technical support group." (which I assume is this discussion board because I cannot find help anywhere else on the iTunes site.) • Serious problem with itunes, please help!

ITunes gives me an error when I try and open it, says windows has encountered an error. I tried uninstalling it and it gives me another error but says iTunes has uninstalled and asks me to restart. iTunes is gone from my add/remove menu but quicktime remains and refuses to uninstall. The uninstall box simply closes halfway through opening the uninstallation program. Help please!

    hi matt!
gaah. okay, first of all, make sure your
    b antivirus and antispyware
are switched off during installs and uninstalls.
lets try using the Windows Cleanup utility to remove the QT clog in your Add/Remove:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
... and also use it to make sure you've got rid of any last vestiges of itunes from your system (i don't like the sound of that crash on the uninstall).
then use the instructions on uninstalls given here as a guide to manually removing itunes and QT program files and folders:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
now download and save to your hard-drive a standalone QT installer (well run the installation from there rather than online). there's a link to a standalone inside here:
Scott Patrie, "Installation hangs on "installing QuickTime"", 10:33pm Oct 7, 2004 CDT
once that is properly installed, reboot. then download and save an itunes 5.0.1.4 installer to your hard-drive, and then run that.
keep us posted on your progress. if you get any further errors, describe them as fully as you can (include error message numbers if you're getting any).

  • Edge Animate's OAM file problem placed in Muse or other unknown problem??  Please help!

    Hi,
I need help please.  Did anyone do a whole page animation in Edge Animate and place the OAM file into Muse, and somehow all the menu and social media icon buttons in Muse are blocked by the placed animation?  All my menu buttons, social media icon buttons and a link are not working (blocked by the transparent AN stage).   I can't go to any other pages because of this issue when previewed in browser.  My animation is a slide-open page from center of the page to both right and left side, also text moved up to the top.  All are moved out of the stage once animation finished to show the home page with contents, including menu and social media icon buttons.  Thanks for your help in advance!!

That answers why the two G4's talk normally! I do
have the TCP/IP settings set up manually.
Well, if they are already set manually, maybe you should change them to Auto-negotiate. You shouldn't have to use the Manual setting at all. If you so, then someone, usually the people who wrote the driver for the network card, have screwed something up. It then becomes your job to fix it.
The problems are just very slow document/file
transfer from either new to old or old to new
computer over network, which usually is great with
    the two G4's.
That is probably the problem. You may want to go ahead and setup the new machine with manual settings to match the G4s. Otherwise, even the Internet will be noticeably slower.
As for Target Disk Mode...so reboot the old G4
holding the T key and the hard drive should show up
on the desktop of the new computer?
That will do it. It is the best and fastest option to transfer large amounts of data. But even target disk mode is kind of slow. A real, external firewire hard drive will be the fastest of all. It is an excellent idea for backups and this kind of thing.

Try installing an older version of iTunes first.
To be quite honest I wouldn't got to iTunes 7 just yet anyway, there's a LOT of bugs. Stick with 6.0.5
