Unless I am in private browsing mode some pages won't load properly. Data is moved and pictures located in strange places. Did a setting get changed? And if so, where do I go to change it back?

Unless I am in private browsing mode my home page, statesmanjournal.com, and a number of other pages come up 'jumbled' with wording all over the place and pictures out of place. This just started happening yesterday. My laptop is ok with firefox, only desktop effected.

Some pages won't load in browser, keep looping

I’ve just finished loading all of my content for a new site onto my remote server. The index page works fine, and some of the pages will load, but most of the pages just keep flashing, as if the browser keeps trying to re-load the page over and over again. I'm using IE8.
When I check browser compatibility in Dreamweaver CS3, the errors I get are:
Unsupported property: zoom
Unsupported value: 'inline block'
Any idea what could be causing this?

Without seeing the actual web page live, it can only be a guessing game.

Some images won't load in Safari, iTunes, iBooks and App Store

Since my upgrade to Mavericks, some images on Safari, iTunes, iBooks and App Store wont load some times. I can't figure out the source of problem, but I've tested all four apps and the same problem exists across all of them; I've also tested Chrome, Firefox and Opera to see if they are suffering from the same problem, and surprisingly enough I've found that they are not; They load images perfectly well, and I've never encountered one to not load images. I'm totally confused and frustrated, what is preventing Apple products to load images? Here are some screenshots:

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site.

After upgrading to Mavericks, some websites won't load (using wifi)?

I upgraded my Macbook Pro to Mavericks last December. I had some problems when loading some websites (such as eBay, Society6, etc) while I was at home using my home wifi in Indonesia. It's like, sometimes these websites won't load, but sometimes they do.
I've tried different browsers and it's still the same. I thought, it was just the wifi at my home in Indonesia that's problematic, because at work (using cable), the internet's just fine. But THEN, I am now here in Australia, I don't usually have problems with my aprtment's wifi at all, but now it's doing that thing. Some websites won't load properly or won't load at all. I realized that this is most likely has something to do with my laptop (ie. upgrading to Mavericks. I've never had this problem before), because the wifi works just fine with my smartphone and my iPod.
Has anyone encountered similar problem? How do you fix this?

How can I stop Firefox 's private browsing mode from restricting Netlflix from storing settings on my computer?

I have a Netflix subscription, which is supposed to let me watch movies online, on its website. However, when I selected one of their "Instant Viewing" movies, a page popped up, saying: "Silverlight Application Storage Error -- Firefox's private browsing mode is restricting Netflix from storing settings on your computer. To resolve this problem, perform the following steps: Click the Tools menu at the top of the browser and select Stop Private Browsing " if enabled.
There is no such "Tools" tab/menu at the top of my Firefox browser; there's only a drop-down box with various headings, but "Tools" is not among them.

Note there is a further change in Firefox 20, that will provide Private Browsing on a per Window basis, allowing you to use some tabs for Private Browsing, whilst most behave normally and save information. The help (kb) articles should be automatically updated to cover this.

Determine if Flash is in private browsing mode

We're currently showing our users some instructions on how to allow our website access to the camera through the Privacy panel, but we noticed that in private browsing mode, the experience is different (a one time allow/deny panel comes up).
In order to provide better instructions to our users on how to deal with the Flash security panels for both cases, we would like to detect which panel will be shown so we can shown the appropriate instructions.
I've read the article here introducing the new feature, but it says nothing about if we can programmatically detect private browsing mode is enabled.

How do I cancel a download in firefox private browsing mode?

Hi. When I download something in private browsing mode, I understand that it doesn't appear in download window.
How do I cancel a download without closing the private window?
I don't want to close all windows because I have several tabs opened and it will be really cumbersome to close all tabs and trying to open all of them again just so that I can cancel one download.

That should work with the ESR version as well and while in a Private Browsing mode tab/window you get the about:downloads page in a tab in that window and if you are in a non-private mode tab you get the Downloads folder in the Library by default, but the about:downloads page shows the downloads made in normal mode.
I can toggle the state of about:downloads tab with the Private Tab extension to switch between the two modes and see their content change.

I have purchased kindle ebook to read from iPad. Told private browsing mode needs to be turned off. How is that done?

There is not a setting for turning on & off private browsing in Firefox mobile.

I could be wrong so let me do some more digging and see if there is a easier way.

Private Browsing mode sometimes doesn't remember cookie info when opening links in new tabs

Also, when in Private Browsing mode, and I go to view the cookies in Options -> Privacy, I can see the cookies from the normal non-private browsing mode. All of them. It's not a fresh, clear, list like it should be.
I don't think any info is being read or recorded between the two sessions types, though. Just that sometimes, when opening a link in a new tab or window, it forgets the cookie information. Again, this is in Private Browsing mode.
I never had this problem until I upgraded to Firefox 19.

Any progress or additional information yet?
I also can see all of my "normal" cookies after switching to private browsing. (I remember that in the past I would see only a "blank" window when first switching to private mode.)

Safari autofills login field while in Private Browsing mode (and it shouldn't)

I've come across a strange behaviour when using Safari in "Private Browsing" mode (under Lion).
Recently, I'd visited a website which required logging in. Then I logged out, and after some time, tried to log in again. Somehow, my login name (which is an email address) was already in the respective field. "OK, that's strange, and it shouldn't happen," I thought and cleared Safari's Cache and Website Data. Interestingly, this wouldn't work either, and my login info was still accessible to Safari. I then went to Users/.../Library and trashed everything related to Safari that I could find. But to no avail. Now, at this moment I was surprised and a bit frustrated! Then I tried to access the same website using a second Mac. Login field remained unfilled in Safari there. Apparently, this issue is system-specific.
Obviously, login data had been stored somewhere as a cookie or in a plist file or whatever. Question is, why on Earth does this happen in PRIVATE BROWSING mode, and where exactly this data is being stored? Anyone?

History is a permanent record of where you have been. This is not kept when you are using Private browsing. The Back button contains the last sequence of links that you clicked which is not the same as history. The back button site chain will be kept for convenience (else how could you back up in a browsing session?). When you turn off private browsing the back button chain will be discarded. There will be no history and no back button chain.

Why am I getting redirected to the MSN homepage (when logging out of hotmail) with third party cookies not enabled? And why are exceptions to cookies being cleared in private browsing mode?

I have the latest version of Firefox, I use Private browsing with Allow cookies but not third party cookies. Recently I have begun to be redirected to the MSN homepage after logging out of hotmail and whenever I add MSN cookies to the exceptions in cookies the list gets deleted. Can anyone tell me why, when blocking third party cookies should prevent that?

Two initial thoughts:
(1) If you look at the cookie names and content in the View Cookies dialog, are they the ordinary scramble of different names and values, or do they look like "opt-out" cookies? Some security software or add-ons may restore opt-out cookies after you clear them.
(2) If you have any extensions that make requests to those sites, it's possible they are bypassing private browsing mode, although I would hope not. Hmmm.
Unfortunately, unlike history where you can see the time that an entry was added, it is difficult to figure out when a cookie was set. But there are many cookie add-ons that might provide insight.
Alternately, you could go directly to the cookies.sqlite database using the SQLite Manager extension. This is on the nerdy side, but manageable.
(1) Install SQLite Manager from: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/sqlite-manager/
(2) The extension adds an item to the Tools menu. If you do not normally use the classic menu bar, tap the Alt key to display it temporarily or press Alt+t to pull down the Tools menu.
SQLite Manager may suggest a particular database, particularly on your second and later uses. You can skip that and it will open a new window.
(3) On the toolbar (first screen shot), choose the cookies.sqlite database and click Go. This should display the database entries for all your cookies (second screen shot).
(4) Select the following SQL query text:
SELECT host AS Site, datetime(creationTime/1000000,'unixepoch') AS Created, datetime(expiry,'unixepoch') AS Expires
FROM moz_cookies
ORDER BY creationTime, host
(5) Click the Execute SQL tab, paste the query, then click Run SQL. You should get a list of sites in order by the date their cookies were set (third screen shot).
Are the dates all fresh? If they are older, something may be rolling back your cookie clearing.

IPhone 5 Safari Faking "Private Browsing" Mode

I recently posted in another forum about how suspicious click-through ads were appearing on my iPhone 5 within certain media web sites. Since I have never run Safari without “private browsing” mode being on; have always had “limit ad tracking” turned on; third-party cookies blocked; and have geolocation and location services (for Safari) turned off, that should have been impossible. While the discussion participants had come up with some interesting possibilities, I realized that I had neglected to check the “Website Data” screen in iPhone’s Setup. So I just checked the web site storage. Got an unpleasant surprise when I was greeted with a screen-full of URL’s beginning with www.stayinvisible.com and carbonite.com. Tapped on “show all sites” and 100 or more URL’s scrolled by, among them many Apple web sites. Even found a competitor’s web site URL that should not have been there, since I’ve never visited their web site, nor any legitimate web site that would have hosted anything that would have set a cookie on this device.
Apple’s privacy policy with the current version of Safari for iPhone 5 (within IOS 7.1.2 11D257) is very clear:
"Private Browsing
When Private Browsing is enabled, Safari doesn’t remember the pages you visit, AutoFill information, and your open tabs aren’t stored in iCloud. Safari will also ask sites and their third party content providers (including advertisers) not to track you. Websites can’t modify information stored on your device, so services normally available at such sites may work differently until you turn off Private Browsing."
Apple stated that, “Websites can’t modify information stored on your device,…” yet I have in front of me proof that web sites CAN and DO modify information on my device while Safari’s “private browsing is on. This is very deceptive and a nasty way to treat customers who bought one of the most expensive PDA/smart phones on the market and now find that they have no web browsing security (Safari ignoring secure web site security certificate revocations, can’t detect bogus or malicious secure web sites), and apparently zero web browsing privacy, after Apple promised exactly the opposite.
Has anyone else finding that their web browsing security has been compromised with a recent vintage iPhone?

I’ve wiped the web cache several times since then. Several times I found more cookies in the web cache, at least once found over a hundred items, mostly for web sites I didn’t visit even once, but were all in my Safari bookmarks. Apparently, in addition to everything else going on, Apple appears to be rooting through my bookmarks without my permission.
Using Steve Gibson’s Cookie Forensics web page (https://www.grc.com/cookies/forensics.htm) I confirmed that web sites are able to save and retrieve cookie data from my iPhone with Private Browsing enabled. That violates Apple’s stated privacy policy.
The cookies that keep reappearing in the web cache, which also violates Apple’s stated privacy policy, apparently are leftovers from Safari crashes. I see five crashes in the past month, and crash logs for Safari going back to last year. Per my earlier post, after tapping the "delete" button, the cookies immediately disappeared, but then all came back at least once within a few seconds. That means IOS was hiding, and not deleting, the web cache when the "delete" button was tapped. The reappearing cookies are also only being hidden from the user, and become visible when a device crash prevents IOS from keeping the cookies hidden, since they've been in the web cache all the time.
I also see that other apps, like Podcasts, Stocks, and Weather are also writing or accessing items in the web cache, while “Private Browsing” mode has supposedly been “on.” The only thing “private” about “Private Browsing” mode is Apple deliberately hiding this activity from users.
Safari on IOS will allow web sites to track iPhone users regardless of an iPhone user’s device settings. Anyone who merely minimizes Safari between sessions, rather than killing the active Safari task, will find their device will act exactly the same whether “Private Browsing” is on or off. Safari might not prompt for, for example, a user name for a login, but if the web site stored a cookie with login info, it might already have you logged in (if a login were required for a particular page). And if a cookie were saved to the web cache after a device crash, Safari will again violate Apple's privacy policy and allow web sites to read and modify the cookies that were stored in the cache while "Private Browsing" mode were on. I confirmed that more than once.

I need to get a list of sites I've visited from my home desktop computer while in private browser mode. I need all sites from 2011 & 2012

I need to get records of websites I visited for 2011 & 2012 while private browsing on Mozilla firefox. The info page said although this info would not be recorded onto my computer there would be records of these websites through the Internet provider. How do I obtain these records?

Your ISP's systems keep a running record of all requests and responses through your internet connection. How long these are preserved will vary. Please note, however, that these records might not be available to you even though you are their customer; they might limit access to law enforcement or other requests accompanied by a subpoena. You could contact your service provider and see what they are willing to do for you.
Note: Your ISP would have no idea which requests were made in regular browsing mode versus private browsing mode because it looks identical from where they are. You would have to figure that out for yourself.

In FF4 while in Private Browsing mode i am unable to use the back or forward buttons, btw right click and back menu option works, just the buttons near the address bar are disabled at all times (this used to work fine in FF3.X)

How can I fix this: Firefox is locked (unlock options greyed out) in private browsing mode on my MacBook Pro running Lion.

It seems frozen in private browsing mode. Cannot get it back into normal browsing mode. Firefox is completely updated on the MAC as is the MAC Lion OS.
