Unlimited broadband speed VERY slow (less than 25k...

When we first got setup around 6 weeks ago the broadband was fine but we had some noise on the phone line which we was told would settle down. - it did then got progressively worse and eventually the phone stopped working all together while the bt router continually lost connection to the broadband. After chasing BT for over 2 weeks we finally had an engineer out who found the phone line problem (previous engineer pinched two wires together causing it to burn out and short the circuit). we was told the broadband speed should pick back up after 3 or 4 days....today has been 5 days and doing a speedtest reveals my download speed to be (on average) 22kb/s with an upload speed of 15kb/s. Web pages take FOREVER to load and anything beyond text you may aswell give up waiting for. Just 6 weeks ago when shiny and new we was getting over 9mb/s - nothing changed internally the setup is all the same just the phone line issue.
Is there ANYTHING i can do to speed this process up? I'm quite put off after the experience i have had with BT services so far and the support have been hopeless.
Heres hoping someone has some ideas!

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you  run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Broadband speed very slow (again)

My broadband speed has been very slow for the past week or so, very hard to stream videos, download etc. Broadband download speed is normally around 7-8mbps mark and has been around 1-2 or lower this past week.
    Speed test..
ADSL stats (I think a housemate must have reset the router 2 days ago)..
There are no problems reported at my local exchange.
I already had this same problem in January. It was fixed for a while but now it is really slow again.. https://community.bt.com/t5/ADSL-Copper-Broadband-Speed/Speed-way-way-down-on-normal/td-p/1149716

this is not the same as last time.. last time your speed was down at about 2mb wheras this time you have 11mb connection.
can you run btspeedtester again with wired connection and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results

  • IOS7 wifi and LTE speed very slow.

iOS7 wifi and LTE speed very slow compared to iOS6.  This was proven with Safari and using speed test app.

I have exactly the same problem symptom ever since installing iOS7. Toggling the FaceTime or the LTE settings alleviated the problem until I installed the latest version on IOS (7.0.4- 11B554a). Now the bug is permanent, a Network Reset will not work anymore, a System Reset will work only for the first execution of Speedtest.
Looks like the network software is throttling LTE speed to the minimum (.50 Mbps) up/download speed no matter what. Now unlimited Data means nothing, maybe AT&T wants me to go to Verizon or Tmobile.
I reported this problem to AT&T Sept 26 when I first installed IOS7, they told me there was no problem really that I needed to wait for the LTE network congestion to go away...? Since I found a circumvention by toggling LTE I did not pursued the problem...
After reporting the problem again this morning, they sent me to the AT&T store to change the SIM card.... I will try this and report back if it fixes the problem... Although I doubt it will fix anything but burn and extra hour of my day. The AT&T rep said that if the new SIM card doesn't fix the problem I need to go to Apple for them to give me a new Iphone....???? I guess there are many iPhones gone bad after installing IOS7 (sarcasm).
If you have this same problem, please post here so that I am able to get back to AT&T with some leverage to get them to remove the choking of LTE. Basically, if everyone accepts the new low speeds, then, unlimited data is no longer a problem for this phone company.

  • Upgraded to iMac - broadband now very slow

I'm hoping someone can help me here, as I'm really stuck on what the problem could be. I've recently upgraded from a Mac Mini to a 2008 20 Inch 2.4 GHz iMac. They were both on Snow Leopard, the upgrade went well and I used migration assistant to transfer across my files and settings.
Then I noticed that my broadband speed seemed slow. I thought this was probably just an ISP glitch, but today it was slow enough that I bothered to check more thoroughly - and it turns out it's the iMac that's slow. A broadband speed check I ran on my MacBook (1.83 GHz Core duo, so theoretically a slower machine in general) gave a result of over 10 Mbps. The iMac could only manage 1 Mbps. That's a tenfold difference! A check on iStumblr - again, with the machines right next to each other - shows a 10% difference in signal.
It's clearly not my wi-fi, or distance from the router (I have a full signal on the Airport icon, and I ran the speed test with my MacBook literally right next to my iMac). Could it be some settings that the iMac inherited from the Mac Mini, or does the iMac just basically have lousy wifi?
My office is too far from my router to realistically use a wired connection, so I'd really like to get this sorted if I can. Thanks for any help!

I've recently been having the same problem on my iMac as well. My MacBook Pro is testing much higher as far as broadband speeds. At one point, my iMac was running slower than dial up. I found that restarting temporarily improves speed, but lag often recurs. I have deleted the folder as described in the previous post and changed the channel on my router which has seemed to help. I was just wondering if anyone has any insight as to what might be going on with my iMac.

  • My iPod touch is downloading and updating apps very slow more than an hour.

My iPod touch 4th gen 32gb verson 4.3.1 is downloading and updating apps very slow more than an hour. I just got it a day ago and I backed up all my apps music and pictures and videos from iTunes. Few months ago I had an iPod touch but I lost it and it was working fine. Luckily before I lost it i backed up everything to iTunes so now everything that was in my old iPod is now in my new iPod. Anyways, When I first bought it I straight away backed up everything and saw that i had many updates on my apps. I started updating it all at once but even the first one was not loading at all and mty ipod was hanging many times during the updates so i cancelled all the updates. i even tried it on my computer and it was taking forever but my laptop does updating and downloading apps slower than my ipod so that doesnt matter. Even when I download an app on my iPod now its take more that an hour. So i was wondering, is my iPod slow cause I backed up too many things when i just got it . I have about 120 apps 150 plus photos and 70 videos and I backed it up all in one night on the day i got my ipod. So now I'm restoring my iPod and updating it to IOS 5 and see what happens. Hopefully it will be faster then but I still need to know what is main problem of m iPod hanging and slow updating/downloading. Need a reply ASAP. Thanks

Still you can switch it off while syncing.
You can also do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)

  • Less Than 25K Songs in Library in Total Yet Match thinks I have More..

I have just under 25,000 total songs in my Music Library after cleaning it up prior to doing iTunes Match.  Now when I Update Match it says the recent additions put me over the 25K limit.  I'm confused.
Originally I had over 30K songs (still less than 25k non iTunes purchases though) so I cleaned up my library and dumped duplciates to get down below 25K. I turned off Match on all my computers then re-enabled it on the computer with my Music Library. I still get the message.
    Any thoughts...

It is worth looking at the iCloud status for your Songs.  You may have anticipated a much higher level of matching than the current iTunes Match service is able to deliver.  There are a series of helpful steps that you can try to increase the level of matching but there is no gaurantee that a successful match will be obtained.
As you add additional computers they may be contributing to a greater number of uploaded rather than matched songs.
Worthwhile to create some Smart Playlists based upon iCloud status such that you can swiftly track how many are 'uploaded', 'waiting' and 'matched'.

  • Mac App Store download speed very slow...

I have been trying to download the App Store updates OS X Update 10.10.3 and OS X Yosemite Recovery Update to my iMac for the past several days.  When opening the Mac App Store, I click on updates and they appear.  However, when I select 'download' my download speed slows to the point of less than 1 MB per minute.
I seem to remember this happening when Yosemite was first released, but after a few days, I had no problem downloading Yosemite from the App Store.
This only occurs when trying to download from the Mac App Store.  When I download iOS App updates to iTunes I do not have the same problem so it seems to be only affecting the Mac App Store.
My internet speed is fine.  I can download fine from other websites, just not the Mac App Store.
After searching online, I found one solution that looked promising:
Finder->Applications->Utilities->Keychain Access->Preferences->Certificates->Certificate Revocation List- Changed from Best attempt to OFF.
Unfortunately for me this had no effect so I changed the setting back.
I then looked for a way I could download the files from outside the Mac App Store & found this:
       Apple - Support - Downloads
When downloading from Apple Support downloads page, my downloads were very fast.  The Yosemite 2 GB Combo update took about 15 minutes, a far cry from the App Store which would have taken hours.
Is there some setting I need to change to increase the download speed from the Mac App Store or is it just overloaded servers?  Why then can I download the files from the support page and not run into the same slow speeds?  Updating iTunes was also giving me very slow download speeds, so again, I went to the Apple Support Downloads & clicked the link to download the latest version of iTunes.  The file downloaded in about a minute.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Apple servers are overloaded. Instead of using App Store, use safari to download the updates manually from apple websites.
    Here's a link for OS X 10.10.2 Combo Update.
OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 Combo Update
I had the same issue and downloaded manually from this link. It took me about 30-40 minutes. I'm using a 5mb connection. Your 40mb connection should be faster.
As for the iOS updates, you will have to download them from your iOS devices, because there are no standalone updates for iOS. Alternatively after you update your Mac, use iTunes to download iOS updates by connecting your iOS devices with your Mac. That should be faster than downloading through your iOS devices.

  • Broadband Speed too slow for BT's own services.

Hello, I have recently heard that BT Sport has the rights for MotoGP in 2014.
Brilliant, I have BT Broadband, it will be free for me.
Oh wait, the required speed is 400kbps, and my BT provided Broadband is less than half of that speed!
I assume, BT will be upgrading the equipment in my area to enable me to have the required speed to view this?
I can dream... Seriously angry about this.

Well folks, I managed to find my way into BT Sport because I'm in the same boat as Tourn46, I want to carry on watching MotoGP in 2014 (but I won't pay subscription fees to anyone).
Just checked my connection speed - excellent - 8MB.
Just watched some tennis on BT Sport 2 - YouTube quality at best.  BT Sport 1 even poorer and ESPN, wouldn't connect.
Hohum.  No more watching those incerdible machines being wrestled around at 200mph in HD/slow motion.  I think I'll probably not bother to watch.  I see I could maybe get HD by paying for an Infinit package - oops, I won't pay any more so that's out.  I see the BT channels come up on my Samsung SmartTV on FreeView, but I'd need a subscription box to get those- oops, I won't pay any more so that's out too.

  • BT Broadband suddenly very slow on Mac OS X 10.5.8

    Hello,
I'm posting on behalf of my dad as his broadband is now so slow as to be almost unusable. He lives in the Suffolk countryside but should still be able to receive broadband speeds of up to at least 1.5mb/s on his local exchange. His BT broadband service has never been brilliant but has recently slowed right down. He has an iMac 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.5.8. He has tried upgrading to a BT Home 3.0 router but this has not improved his broadband speed. I have tried to run the BT speedtester but I can't get it to work because it says Java is not installed despite it appearing to be enabled as a plugin. I have tried this in both Safari and Firefox. I have asked him to try the speedtester available on the uSwitch website which has recorded a download speed of only 0.2 and upload of 0.1mb/s.  I would be very greatful if anyone has any suggestions as I am going to visit him tomorrow. I intend to try plugging the hub directly into the main socket via a microfilter. I also plan to try upgrading his operating system to snow leopard but I doubt that this will improve his connection. The quality of the phone line seems to have decreased recently too.  Is my only option to try ringing BT customer services?
    Thank-you!

    Hello,
Have upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.3 and now able to run BT speedtester:
    Also here are hub stats:
    Ran Uswitch speed tester again:
This suggests that we should be able to get up to 2.5Mb on this exchange.
Have tried quiet line test, line is not silent, there is low level interference on wire connected handset. Have tried connecting hub directly to master socket which has given a slight improvement in performance but still to my mind unacceptably slow. Could not repeat BT speedtest as limited to one test per hour. Ran Uswitch test again:
I know that he has just changed from Hub 2 to Hub 3 and it will take time to settle but broadband speed had already declined notably (to the point of being barely usable) on Hub2 before switching to Hub3.
    Any further advice gratefully received....

  • Internal Disk to Disk Data Transfer Speed Very Slow

I have a G5 Xserve running Tiger with all updates applied that has recently started experiencing very slow Drive to Drive Data transfer speeds.
When transferring data from one drive to another ( Internal to Internal, Internal to USB, Internal, Internal to FW, USB to USB or any other combination of the three ) we only are getting about 2GB / hr transfer speeds.
I initially thought the internal drive was going bad. I tested the drive and found some minor header issues etc... that were able to be repaired so I replace the internal boot drive
I tested and immediately got the same issue.
I also tried booting from a FW drive and I got the same issue.
If I connect to the server over the ethernet network, I get what I would expect to be typical data transfer rates of about 20GB+ / hr. Much higher than the internal rates and I am copying data from the same internal drives so I really don't think the drive is the issue.
I called AppleCare and discussed the issue with them. They said it sounded like a controller issue so I purchased a replacement MLB from them. After replacing the drive data transfer speeds jumped back to normal for about a day maybe two.
Now we are back to experiencing slow data transfer speeds internally ( 2GB / hr ) and normal transfer speeds ( 20GB+ / hr ) over the network.
Any ideas on what might be causing the problem would be appreciated

As suggested, do check for other I/O load on the spindles. And check for general system load.
I don't know of a good GUI in-built I/O monitor here (and particularly for Tiger Server), though there is iopending and DTrace and Apple-provided [performance scripts|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1992] with Leopard and Leopard Server. top would show you busy processes.
Also look for memory errors and memory constraints and check for anything interesting in the contents of the system logs.
The next spot after the controllers (and it's usually my first "hardware" stop for these sorts of cases, and usually before swapping the motherboard) are the disks that are involved, and whatever widgets are in the PCI slots. Loose cables, bad cables, and spindle-swaps. Yes, disks can sometimes slow down like this, and that's not usually a Good Thing. I know you think this isn't the disks, but that's one of the remaining common hardware factors. And don't presume any SMART disk monitoring has predictive value; SMART can miss a number of these cases.
(Sometimes you have to use the classic "field service" technique of swapping parts and of shutting down software pieces until the problem goes away. Then work from there.)
And the other question is around how much time and effort should be spent on this Xserve G5 box; whether you're now in the market for a replacement G5 box or a newer Intel Xserve box as a more cost-effective solution.
(How current and how reliable is your disk archive?)

  • Broadband Always Very Slow

My broadband has always been very slow since we moved into our house 3 years agao. I had hoped it would improve through time but to no avail.
We are in a rural location which I am guessing is the problem but it is very frustrating. We cannot even stream audio files.
Is there anything we can do and I dont mean all the usual stuff we have tried all that and had a line spun to us from BT that they were doing things to help.

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
this may be the usual stuff again but in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem
