Unlimited data on ipad

this is my question:
i was able, not so simply i might add, to transfer from my Orig. ipad to the New ipad my unlimited data plan...that being said i am somewhat confused..can i download a movie over the "alledged" 4G service on Att without incurring these widely talked about high charges to obtain said streamed/downloaded videos...i am assumming the higher charges apply if one has not been grandparented in on the unlimited original offer.
Am i correct...so i can download and not worry about extra, higher costs?
i do have an apple tv and mostly prefer to watch on my tv the videos of my choosing, but when i travel i pick one or 2 movies up for the trip on the ipad....need i worry about doing it on wifi vs. the 4G? i think not, but need someone out there who is really knowledgeable on this to inform me correctly, please
What other content would be using a lot of data to download besides videos/movies?
surfing really isn't all that data grabbing is it?
i mainly leisurely sit down and read the  entire google news page, going to the most interesting articles and, then maybe  reading some of a book i have gotten from itunes.
anyone getting a feel if i am a small, med. or large user of data?
just curious
is there a way for me to actually check this myself??

4G meaning HSPA+ or LTE? On your iPad if it says 4G its really 3G it should say LTE to get the real high speed.
From what I have read if you are grandfathered into a iPad unlimited plan you will have it for new iPad and get LTE. If you only have 4G as your symbol I would call or go to the store to get LTE working, it might just work with your old SIM but I just upgraded from a 3G/4G phone to a LTE from ATT and they said they needed to activate a new SIM since the old one doesn't work with the new LTE devices.
Anyways I've read that they are unliminted if you are grandfathered into a Unlimited iPad Data Plan. But don't be supprised if in the future they start trottling your service, happed to me went from iPhone unliminted plan to a Samsung LTE device and after 5GB of data they started trottling speed to half a meg download.

  • Goodbye unlimited data for IPad 3G customers.  Welcome to AT&T after June 7

    http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=17991&cdvn=news&newsarticleid=30854&mapcod e=financial%7CWireless
For new iPad customers, the $25 per month 2 GB plan will replace the existing $29.99 unlimited plan. iPad customers will continue to pre-pay for their wireless data plan and no contract is required. Existing iPad customers who have the $29.99 per month unlimited plan can keep that plan or switch to the new $25 per month plan with 2 GB of data.

"AT&T also announced that they have changed the iPad 3G data plan for new customers after June 7th.
At present, AT&T offers a no-contract $29.99/month unlimited data plan specifically for iPad owners. If you activate your data plan before June 7th, you can still participate in this plan. After June 7th, however, AT&T will be replacing that plan with a $25/month 2GB limited plan. From the press release:
For new iPad customers, the $25 per month 2 GB plan will replace the existing $29.99 unlimited plan. iPad customers will continue to pre-pay for their wireless data plan and no contract is required. Existing iPad customers who have the $29.99 per month unlimited plan can keep that plan or switch to the new $25 per month plan with 2 GB of data.
So, if this is an issue for you, you still have time to be grandfathered into the unlimited data plan. Existing iPad customers can look at their current data usage via their iPad settings."

    Got this off of cnet.com:

“But nobody will be forced to switch. If users are happy with their current plan then they can keep it, which we expect many to do. In fact, AT&T tells us, *"[Users] are not required to switch to the new plans if they renew their contract or switch to another smartphone.* However, if they switch to one of the new plans, they will not be able to go back to their old unlimited plan." The only downside is that legacy iPhone plans won't get tethering, so there are some things to consider for some.”
Hopefully that will remain the case. I have unlimited on both my iPhone and iPad and like the freedom of watching as many videos and surfing the net as much as I want. On TUAW the article was saying it was likely that AT&T would force those "grandfathered" into changing to a new data plan when they renewed. The above article pretty much says that AT&T is claiming that whether we renew or switch to another smartphone and don't switch data plans that we should be ok.
    I'll keep my fingers crossed!

  • Can I use Apple TV with unlimited data plan for my IPad without any other internet connection?

I Live in a weird area with no hardwired internet connection.
My only internet connection is my iPad Air's UNLIMITED DATA plan from AT&T... It's LTE and it works great for my usual work.
i Want to cancel stupid Direct TV acct and use Apple TV instead...
IS it possible to subscribe a TV account online by using my ipad air's unlimited data plan and watch in on my TV via Apple TV without  using any other type of home network account?

If you intend to use your iPads data plan then that will require use of the tethering/hot spot feature. As I said, you will not be able to use airplay, that needs a wifi LAN (home  network). This may change with IOS 8, but won't know for sure until the release.

  • I have an iPhone with an unlimited data plan. Is there a way to go online with a wifi only iPad using my phone for access?

I have an iPhone with an unlimited data plan. Is there a way to go online with a wifi only iPad using my phone for access?

If your iPhone cell carrier allows you to use Tethering, you can turn your iPhone into a wifi hotspot, then your iPad Air can connect to that for internet access.  Not all cell carriers allow tethering without you signing up for additional fees/services.  For example, AT&T in the US still has grandfathered "unlimited" data plans, but they do not allow tethering for those plans.  With AT&T you need to switch to a Mobile Share plan (or a tiered plan if still available) to use tethering (legally).

  • Will I lose my unlimited data plan if I upgrade to new iPad

I am grandfathered in to the unlimited data plan on AT&T. Will that carry over to the new iPad? When I sent from iPad to iPad 2 all I had to do was swap my SIM into the new iPad, but wouldn't I need a new SIM for 4G?

You'll need to call AT&T and ask them.
    Regards.

  • Will an iPad restore / new setup kill my AT&T Unlimited Data plan?

    Hi guys,
I'm going to be giving a presentation on the iPad's features to a business group I work with. Before giving the presentation, I'd like to fully restore my 64g+3G iPad and create a temporary "stock" profile - that way, I won't be presenting all my personal junk to the group. I have one main concern, though: I'm really anxious about possibly losing my $30-per-month unlimited data plan with AT&T - I got "grandfathered in" on the deal, and I know if I interrupt my service for even a moment, I'll have to downgrade to the 2gig-per-month plan.
So, does anyone know if a restore / reset of the iPad would affect my AT&T plan, or would I just sign back in with my account details and pick up right where I left off?
    Thanks in advance!
    Huxley

It will not affect your plan. Plan only gets impacted if you cancel and restart your service, which you are not doing. From a technical perspective the plan isn't even attached to the iPad itself, it's attached to the SIM card.

  • How can I get unlimited data for my iPad mini

HOw can I get unlimited data for my iPad mini

That is completely up to your cellular carrier.  Contact them and ask.

  • Is there an unlimited data plan?

Is there an unlimited data plan on Verizon?
My son (in the Army with no wifi) usage has gone through the roof after I gave him an ipad for Christmas.
I am getting sales material from a lot of other carriers which include unlimited data.
I just had to bump up my data plan to 30GB which is $275 a month.
Should I be looking to switch carriers?

As of right now, verizon is not offering unlimited data plans.  I will caution you about the unlimited data plans you have gotten info about.  Most of them only offer a certain amount of data when you're in their "extended" network, which means when you're using their partners' towers.  Most times this amount of data is limited to 250mb, or even 100mb in some cases.  You must also take coverage into consideration.  Unlimited data with no service is still limited, especially if he's going to be travelling.  If his usage is getting out of control, I would recommend family base, which will allow you to set data limits.  I know that's not ideal, but I have a niece in the army and she has a phone on my account.  She currently uses about 2gb of data a month.

  • Unlimited plan for iPad 2 in Puerto Rico?

Well I want to know if I can get unlimited plan for my iPad 2 in puerto rico, because is not a option when I try to get it, just the option of 250MB and the other of 2GB, anyone know what I need to do to get the unlimited?

    Totally different device.
It was the choice of the wireless provider, not Apple. If you want to email them about it they probably have a complaint link at their websites.
Plus, you can't get unlimited data on the iPhone anymore. Both AT&T and Verizon stopped offering it.

  • Unlimited plan on iPad 3G

I ordered my iPad on May 24, and received it today, June 7. It did indeed offer me the option to choose the $29.99 unlimited plan, which I promptly did!
Evidently, the info posted on the Apple Store site about ORDERING before June 6 was a fact. I was afraid that I would have had to ACTIVATE the iPad prior to June 6 for the unlimited plan to be available.
Just my personal experience, and I hope this answers some concerns that some have had about the availability of the unlimited plan.

Still waiting for the unlimited data plan. After not hearing back from AT&T I contacted Apple Support again today.
I was then transferred to a person at AT&T that was suppossed to help me. The person at AT&T tried several things but then came back and said nothing would work and I would have to take one of the new plans.
Absolutely not, I bought the more expensive IPad 3G on May 21, 2010 specifically for the unlimited data plan not the new plans.
I cannot believe it has been 3 days since I recieved my IPad 3G and I still have yet to have this issue resolved especially considering that Apple's own website states:
*What are the 3G data plan options from AT&T?*
*There are two monthly data plans: 250MB or 2GB. Customers who order iPad from the Apple Online Store by June 6th will also qualify to purchase an unlimited monthly plan. There’s no contract, and you can sign up and change your service right on your iPad. In addition, AT&T data plans include unlimited access to over 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspots at locations including Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, and more.*
    Unbelieveable!

  • How to add existing Cellular (AT&T) data on iPad Air

    Just bought/received a new iPad Air (AT&T).
Trying to get the AT&T data portion working.
I go to Settings, Cellular Data, View Account, Cellular Data Account....
    I have 3 choices:
    Set UP New Account >
    Add to Existing AT&T Account>
    Transfer Service From Another iPad>
Since I already have 3 Iphone 5's on an UNLIMITED DATA plan with AT&T (Grandfathered-in), I chose the middle selection.
It then asks for the following:
    Cellular Phone: Required
    Zip Code: Required
    Passcode: Required if enabled
SSN:  Last four digits of SSN
I entered EVERYTHING correctly, but it comes back after just a few attempts:
We're sorry, the maximum number of authentication attempts has been exceeded.  You must wait 24-hrs before trying again.
NOW.....Is the PASSCODE that they are referring to the AT&T PASSCODE???  Or the silly passcode to open the iPad after the finger swipe?
This is the ONLY thing that I can think of that may have been entered incorrectly.  I was entering in my AT&T PASSCODE (4 digit) security passcode that you use to login online.
IF they are asking for the APPLE PASSCODE that you enter after you finger swipe, then maybe that's the issue???
    HELP!!!!

    sberman,
When I log in to the link you specified, I have to enter in my:
    USER ID:  (Phone number)
    and
PASSWORD: (Yes much longer than 4 numbers)
    then....
I have a PASSCODE that I must enter (4 numbers) as a further security wall.
So....when setting up this AT&T Data plan on the iPad, it's asking for a PASSCODE (Required if enabled) I am assuming that it's the 4 digit number, and NOT the PASSWORD that is alpha-numeric and much longer.

  • Who has the Unlimited Data Plan and has Been Speed Capped when You went over 5Gig?

Just checking to see how many others have been speed capped to 200Kb on the unlimited data plan when they went over 5Gig in a billing cycle? (you can get a one time reprieve if you call them at 1-888-483-7200)
Did they ask you to change your plan to 10Gig and Update your Equipment and sign a new two year agreement?
Did you know that Sprint is offering unlimited Data on their 4G network and that Verizon is trying to lock down customers that are not on 2 year contracts? (Gives them time to catch up with the competition) Marcus in Fraud and Investigation told me (when I told him that Sprint was offering Unlimited Data)  "...That is a better option..."
I am now looking into other options along with allot of the rest of you.

I was instructed to call that Fraud Department number and was treated like I had broken some kind of law instead of going over the 5 Gig fine print limit on my unlimited grandfathered in account. They would not even consider giving me a one time do over for being a MiFi newbie. I am hearing class action suit rumblings out there!!

  • Is there anyone here with an unlimited data who has,,,,,

1....bought(at full price) a tablet, and switched between the tablet and phone as you would switching two phones without losing your unlimited plan
2....signed up for the 1 month hotspot for $30 (for 1 month only, like say for vacation), and using your unlimited plan with the hotspot, without losing your data plan, of course
i have talked to no less than 8 reps at different times and have gotten yes and no answers equally. it is not so much about trying to see if it works,,,it's about getting the unlimited data plan BACK if they f**k up

I have never called customer service to activate or remove the hotspot feature. If I can do it online, I will use that method before calling. I have had a VZW rep on the forum help me future date a removal once because the website wouldn't let me have the feature removed at the end of the current billing cycle so it wouldn't be on the next billing cycle. That didn't last long so I have kept the hotspot feature activated since then.

  • Unlimited data

After talking to a supervisor, finally got my unlimited data plan re-instated. Took some talking, but it was worth it. We both agreed that a smartphone is a smartphone, and that I changed nothing in my plan (family plan) to warrent my losing the unlimited data. I kept my Droid X and made it my back-up phone. It never did lose the unlimited data plan, only my LG Spectrum. But now, even my Spectrum has unlimited data.

Until they offer a shared plan for families that allow for a family to share about 5 gig a month for 50 bucks or less it is a total ripofff-kids in college and HS never go over the VZ net always wifi and same with workers only road warriors use a lot of road air time via VZ net and so We pay 90 a month-yes one unlimited and me with a dumb phone I refuse to upgrade as I will get added another 30 for 120 a month plus 90 for 700 voice pus 30 for text and stuff (Which if kids would use email on iPhones they would not  pee money away on texts etc as they could use the date on their 3 gig. but its absurd to pay for reach phone and it burns the users on either end- a parent who uses 3 gig who has 2 kids who use 0;.1 giig should hardl bye paying more than 90 a month-do they think that families can pay now 270 a month for cell -250 for FIOS--I mean its a good service but somebody will sffer share and then they will jump in-they have claimed to plan to add data share for now over 6 months and keep milling it as VZ is famous for=-BILL CREEP--I love their network but their corporate monkeys are just awful awful people who care nothing about loyalty-only about ripping me off every step of the way--it is always a chore to be sure I am not overpaying-always-the guy just tried to have me upgrade on my wife's phone and that would have forced me into a smart phone and I dont want more data at 30 a month-the col.is breaking my budget and I am about to toss them out for US cellular and god forbid ATT? OYE!
