Unlinked vector mask is discarded when duplicating the document

Photoshop CC 2014 Mac
To reproduce:
1. Have a layer with unlined vector mask
2. Duplicate the document by clicking on the "Create new document from current state" button at the bottom of the History panel
3. The vector mask disappears from the newly created duplicated document
Can anyone verify this...?
@kennethkawamoto

If that is what happens on you machine its either a bug in CC 2014 Maco or something with your install.  There is no problem in CC 2014 PC.

  • "Message Processor" does not get assigned when saving the document.

    Hi folks!
    When creating a support message (SLFN) and saving the document usually the BP of the current user got assigned to the partner funtion "message processor".
    This used to work but does not anymore. Now I cannot find the reason why.
    I think I could achieve this via customizing "Make Settings for Change Transaction Types" and using "Specify Copy of Current User" but I am pretty sure this was not customized before.
    I could use partner determination procedure, too. Access sequence "User" but still I am not sure this was customized before.
    I am using SLFN transaction type service provider scenario (SLFC0001)
    Anyone got an idea?
    Thanks in advance.

  • When saving the document is said "not to exist"

    I have been unable to save new documents when working in pages. A dialogue box states "the page does not exist".

    Hi  Bhaskar,
    Thank you for your posting!
    According to your description, my understanding for your scenario is :
    In your document library require check out documents before editing Setting  is not enabled and there is no required field;
    when user save the document, the document still checkout ;
    Still require documents to be checked out before they can be edited.
    In my test, when user edit the checked out document and save it , the office will pop up a window as this:
    If we select Yes, the document will be Checked in; If we select No, the document will be still Checked out.
    For narrowing down your issue,  I need to clarify some information:
    How about  creating  a new document library?
    Does the issue appear for all the document  in the library?
    Also for making sure disabling require check out documents before editing Setting , you can try to use PoerShell:
    Change SharePoint list settings using PowerShell - Part 1: General and Versioning
    Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Photoshop CS2 hogs RAM even when all the documents are closed.

    Like the title says.  I was able to re-create the issue in this video: (nevermind, I guess I can't post links)
    Long story short; after having documents open, I have to close Photoshop and re-open it to get my RAM back.
    Why does this happen?
    Thanks in advance!

    The answer is given above; that is just how it works.  It shouldn't really affect your system performance much if you have enough virtual memory configured, and if you've not overdone it on the amount of RAM you allow Photoshop to use.
    I just close Photoshop when I'm done using it.

  • 2 outputs getting created simultaneously when saving the document

    Dear SDNers,
    I have a shipment Document.
    Upon saving it 2 Outputs- LAVA for (EDI) get generated at the same time.
    Clarification needed:
    1. Please guide as to where i need to look for the error as to why 2 outputs are getting triggered simultaneously( gap of 1 second).
    2. i have checked in the processing routine associated with it. Is it the right place?
    Regards,
    SuryaD.

    Hi Nagaraj,
    thanks for your response.
    So if i understand right, you mean to say that if 2 condition records are maintained, then 2 outputs migh get created.
    Right.

  • Auto Vector Mask won't let me get past the dialog box

    Something funny started happening a few weeks back- When I try to apply an auto vector mask, I hit 'Apply' and the dialog box stays there. If I continue to press 'Apply', it will affect the mask, but I can't get past the dialog box. The 'Cancel' button still works. I've gone as far as reinstalling Fireworks CS5, and the hiccup remains....

    Resolved- I had locked down the the #Shared Objects folder, so Flash Player couldn't write to it. Whoops. Thanks anyway, maybe this will help someone in the future!

  • After updating my Flash Player, the Auto Vector Mask window is now blank.

    After updating my Flash Player, the Auto Vector Mask window is now just a blank window.

    You can replace the "Auto Vector Mask" SWF file present at the "Fireworks installation folder/Configuration/Commands/Creative/Auto Vector Mask.swf ".
    If this doesn't work, then one of the reasons that it could be happening is if Firebug or Flash Firebug is installed.
    If you have either of those, can you uninstall them and relaunch Fireworks.
    Let me know if it works.

  • Vector Mask - Arrgh! (Bug or Feature?)

    I'm frustrated by some behaviors of Vector Masks. I'm asking the forum about this because I'm curious how many others have experienced these issues
    • When I'm working on a layer that has a VM, (i.e. when that layer is active), it is IMPOSSIBLE to load any other path as a selection.
    For example: I've made a layer that has both a Layer Mask and a VM. I need to load some other paths as selections in order to further modify the Layer Mask. With the LM active, I Cmnd Click on another path in the Path Palette, but it is the VM of that layer that gets loaded as a selection. The VM seems to override all other paths. The only work around is to click to another layer, load a path as a selection, and then click back to the LM of the layer with the VM.
    • If I click on a layer with a Vector Mask the Vector Mask then becomes active (lines around it). This occurs even when clicking the layer, NOT the Layer Mask or the Vector Mask (VM). Even with the VM inactive, mousing over it in the layer palette makes the VM path appear, briefly. Having the path pop into visibility is distracting when I'm trying to look at something else.
    Everyone in our studio experiences this behavior.
    What makes VM paths so dominant? Is there a pref somewhere that controls this? Is this an Open GL glitch? Is this a feature that I am using incorrectly? Or is this a documented bug?
    (Because someone will ask, "Why have both layer mask and vector mask on one layer?"
    I have both LM and VM because it gives me flexibility in editing, for instance I can have the LM hard edged, and the VM feather 10 pxl so it is easy to create a mask effect that has different qualities of edge blur within it).
    Thanks in advance for anyone's input.

    Ginger,
    Using paths is an extremely powerful function in Photoshop and Illustrator. If you intend to do high-end work in either program learning the path tool is fundamental. It gives you the ability to create very smooth and graceful shapes. Often I find that I can create a path  on an area of a photo that is much cleaner than the shape captured in the photograph of a product. Manufacturing runs, especially preliminary runs, have defects in the mold/process that when photographed at high resolution appear objectionable. Using the Pen Tool I will draw a better shape, the shape intended by the product designer, and use that mask to clean up manufacturing errors. Since these images are used in high-end display images, the cleaned-up image is acceptable to the client whent the straight photo would not be.
    The Lasso tool is defintitely a "go to" option, but there is no substitute for the Pen Tool in making perfect selections. They can be converted into layer masks. They can have feathering applied. I often have layers with BOTH Layer Masks and Vector Masks because of the variable feathering that gives me. I can only suggest that the Pen Tool is a must-have in any Photoshop artist's tool-kit.

  • Rasterizing Vector Mask Issues

    Hello,
    I'm running into a problem with CS3- all of the sudden.
    I'm on XP running PS 10.0.1 with two gigs of ram
    so... I create a vector shape and then rasterize it.
    Until Friday, I was able to use my marquee tool to select a piece of that rasterized vector mask and then cut out the part.
    Since Friday, when I use my marquee tool to select a piece of the rasterized vector mask, and then hit control x, the selection is added to the vector mask.
    I'm sure that I, inadvertently, selected some setting or hit a keyboard short cut leaving me in this lurch, but any help would be soooo greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Sabrina

    Hello Sabrina,
    Make sure your background color is black at the moment.

  • Pasting a path automatically creates a vector mask...

    Hi, it appears that Adobe has modified the way pasting paths behaves. Prior to CC when you pasted a path it would paste as a path, as expected. Now when you paste a path it automatically pastes the path as a vector mask. Is there anyway to stop it from doing this. The only workaround I have found is to create a new path layer first and then past the path which is totally unnecessary and a waste of time. This is another slight tweak that Adobe has undertaken that has totally ruined my working process. At this rate I will be cancelling my subscription. Why meddle with and tweak things that do not need fixing? I really hope this can be solved.
    Thanks.

    There have been changes to pasting paths.  Here is what Adobe told me about it:
    The general rule is that the topmost selected path, if it exists, will get the pasted path. Otherwise if a layer is targeted a new vector mask will be made of the pasted path for that layer. Otherwise if no path or layer are selected, the work path will be set and targeted. Note a subtlety here: if a layer with a vector mask is targeted but the vector mask itself is not selected in the paths panel, a paste will replace the vector mask instead of append to it. In such a case if the user wants to append to the layer's vector mask they should select it in the paths panel first.

  • Vector mask

    I was using the vector mask in Photoshop then opening the image in Illustrator and it was working just fine. Now when I open the image in Illustrator the vector mask is not there. Any suggestions on something I'm doing wrong?

    I got that problem fixed but how can you remove the white box around your text in illustrator? When you create a text in Photoshop and then open it in Illustrator it has a background around it. Do you know how to remove it or open it with just the text? Thanks for any help.

  • Vector Mask Path doesn't show for CS6?

    When using pen or path related tools, I can still see the the path for the vector mask. But when clicking on the brush tool or any other tool not related to paths, the path for the vector mask disappears. The vector mask is also highlighted in the layers. There's no x mark or anything in vector mask. CS5 didn't have this problem. Is this CS6 function or not?
    CS6:
    Using Pen or Path related tools
    When clicking on Brush tool or others, paths disappear
    CS5:
    No problem with CS5

    Good day!
    CS5 didn't have this problem.
    This is just the way things are in CS6.

  • Replacing subPathItems in a vector mask

    It seems one can fairly easily replace a Layer’s Vector Mask with another one’s, but I fail to see if I can simply replace the Vector Mask’s subPathItems with a new array.
    A pathItem’s subPathItems being read only this seems improbable, but still …
    And on a related note: Do any of you know if one can create a Vector Mask without first creating a pathItem proper?
    Because currently I have the Scripts create Paths, create Solid Color Layers with the Paths selected and then delete the Paths again, which seems to be a longish route.
    Thanks for any input.

    You can create a empty vector mask with a script.
        var desc13 = new ActionDescriptor();
            var ref10 = new ActionReference();
            ref10.putClass( charIDToTypeID('Path') );
        desc13.putReference( charIDToTypeID('null'), ref10 );
            var ref11 = new ActionReference();
            ref11.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID('Path'), charIDToTypeID('Path'), stringIDToTypeID('vectorMask') );
        desc13.putReference( charIDToTypeID('At  '), ref11 );
        desc13.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID('Usng'), stringIDToTypeID('vectorMaskEnabled'), charIDToTypeID('RvlA') );
        executeAction( charIDToTypeID('Mk  '), desc13, DialogModes.NO );
    But as you pointed out pathItems are read only so it doesn't do much good unless you want the script to create a blank vector mask for the user to edit after the script is done.
    Because you can't edit an existing path, the way you are creating vector masks is the only way I know. New path, mask from path, remove path.
    The only way I know to 'edit' an existing path with scripting is to read the existing path converting into SubPathInfo and PathPointInfo which can be edited. Then delete the old path and create a new one from the edited data.
    For a vector mask you add the extra steps. i.e. you read/convert the vector mask's path data, delete the mask, create a new path with the edited points, make a mask from that new path, then delete the new path.
