Unlinking sound & video
Well, I have had PE.2 for a few years now and very useful it is. However while it can do many things other entry level programs can't, it cannot import a dvd movie (MPEG2) without recoding it to DV avi which means you lose a bit of quality. To combat this I bought the MainConcepts plug in, which enables me to edit my project, then export it with Smart Rendering for another application (MyDVD) to burn the disc. Now then; with the project I'm doing now, I've repeated the procedure but couldn't get the Smart rendering to work, so tried to do the whole thing in VideoWave, then MYDVD and low and behold, it is in perfect sync on the PC, but the resultant DVD is out of sync. Unlike Prem EL, with videowave you cannot separate the sound and image to adjust the sync. (Prem EL being the better program anyway).
If the sync wasn't misbehaving then the Roxio approach would mean that there would be much less burn time (Prem El needing about five hours for a two-hour movie due to all the scratch files etc). Roxio Videowave seems to be able to work with many many codecs and happily burns you an MPEG project quickly, without changing the codec as the disc burns.
With Prem EL 2.0 you can't burn a disc from an MPEG source without the picture changing its sheen.
I don't suppose Prem EL 7 has an increased amount of native codec ability does it?
If not, I eagerly await the day when A version of prem-el comes out that can merrily work with MPEG, without the need to buy a plug in.
Until that day arrives, know you of a cheap MPEG friendly editor that lets you alter the sync?
m
All versions of Premiere Elements use a DV-AVI workflow, and they can not smart render or edit MPEGs natively. Sorry, Mike.
The program I'd recommend seems to the one you're already using -- MyDVD. It's probably the best combination of MPEG editor and smart-rendering DVD creator I know of.

Unlinking multiple Video/audio clips
Coming from FCP I'm used to doing certain things as part of the workflow. One of these is being able to link / unlink multiple video/audio clips at the same time to that I can selectively delete or disable the audio if I'm running a second audio recorder or perhaps mixing a backing track.
In PPro it seems like as soon as I select more than one clip the 'Unlink' option is grayed. How can I select (say) 10 clips, unlink the audio from the video so that I can delete or disable it. The reason for disable is that I may want the ambient sounds later on in the mix, but if I disable this audio without unlinking I also disable the video.
I don't want to keep moving stuff on to more and more audio tracks and then have to mute the track, that's time consuming and a pain. All I want to do it unlink multiple clips.
This can't be that hard can it ?You don't need to Unlink in order to Delete. Just hold down the Alt key while selecting the audio portion of the clips.
You can 'disable' the audio by turning off the entire track, which is very easy to undo if you ever want the audio back.
It's a slight shift in work flow, but the end result is the same. -
Here is the issue I had with with my Compaq F700 series laptop. The sound was working one day and then not working the next. Over the volume icon there was a big red X and the warning that No Audio output Device is installed. I also found that there no longer was the sound, video, game tab in the device manager. It had gone missing.
I couldn't use most of the fixes as they require having the sound, video, game tab available and this tab was, as I said missing. I tried reinstalling the sound drivers from the manufacturer’s website as well as using the driver re-install, but at each attempt it would fail as a result of not having any audio devices installed on the computer.
I tried doing the system restore and rolling it back but the problem didn't get resolved. What eventually worked was restoring the system to a MUCH earlier date, like a month prior to the problem. When the restore finished the sound was still not fixed. HOWEVER, the computer OS (WINDOWS 7) needed to re-install a bunch of updates and after the updates were installed, everything was working. I suspect that the original issue was a bad update (the updates didn't install correctly) and that by rolling the system back to a time prior to the bad updates and then re-installing the update was the fix.
With that said, if the restore option doesn’t work or can’t be done I would try looking through the add/remove programs in the control panel and uninstall the most recent system updates, then restart computer and let the updates re-install.
Good LuckOnly option that I see in the BIOS is under Security. Audio Device: Hidden or Available. It was set to available and I left it at that. Still no audio.
Really? Nothing? This computer is one year old. Absolutely no reason for this to be happening. What a joke. -
Hi! I´m having problems with showing video files in Qlab on my Macbook Air. It started suddenly. Consulted a sound/video technician who told me to "blow out" my Mac. Was told to use cmd+r when restarting. Is this the right way to clean up my Mac? And is it likely that some kind of bug is causing problems for Qlab to show video files? I´ve already tried with a bunch of different video files and sometimes Qlab plays them and sometimes not. I need the Qlab playlist for a theatre show and only have a week until showtime so starting to really worry. Is there anyone out there who can help?
Your Mac runs maintenance in the background for you.
Command + R gives you access to restore, repair, or reformat the drive using OS X Recovery
No idea why that was suggested.
You may have a third party video player installed that's causing an incompatibility issue.

Download and install the Audio driver on the link below.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50720.exe
When this installation has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

I posted (or at least I thought the post worked) this question Mar.27th but I can't find it or any replies I may have gotten so if anyone knows its whereabouts I'd appreciate you're telling me how to see it so I won't have 2 threads running for the same question. My question is: why is the option to unlink the audio and video tracks greyed out when I'm trying to substitute part of an audio clip (without ruining the synchronization between the existing audio and video). I'm working with a saved "projectX.prel" file. I noticed when I opened a new project that the UNLINK option is active. This seems contrary to logic i.e wouldn't the unlink action be more likely to be needed when working on an existing file as opposed to when working on a brand new file? How can I separate the 2 components (audio & video) so I can edit just the audio clip without the UNLINK procedure working? Would really appreciate any help anyone can offer with any of the foregoing. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Glad that suggestion C worked for you.
Is there any remote possibility that the video and audio are really unlinked to start.
Let us take suggestion A, you say that Link Audio and Video is active choice for what you believe to a linked video audio on the Timeline.
You have your clip in the Expert workspace and the clip is not selected as represented in screenshot 1.
If you click on the Video 1 portion of the clip, does the video portion and audio portion highlight to look like what you see in screenshot 2
where the video and audio portion both look highlighted.
Or, if you click on the Video 1 portion of the clip, is it just the video portion that looks highlighted and the audio part
continues to look unhighlighted? As seen in the next screenshot 3?
Depending on your answers, we may next delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which can be found
Local Disk C

Owner
AppData
Roaming
Adobe
Premiere Elements
13.0
and in the 13.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 13.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives enabled so that you can see the complete path given.
As your schedule permits, looking forward to learning of your progress.

No sound; Video to iPod Convert
Hey, I am trying to convert a .mpg video file (Bit Rate: 1395 kb/s) and when I do there is no sound. The video aspect of it is just fine.
Edit: I just tried to convert it to .mov with Quicktime rather than iTunes and failed No sound...
Anyone know what is causing this?
MBP C2D 2.33GHz 15.4
2GB
iTunes 7.0.2 (15)
OS X 10.4.8 (Everything is updated)If the file is muxed, there's the problem.
Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows). -
When I assembled my show in Imovie everything was the way I wanted it. The video clips & still pics, music, etc. After I exported it to IDVD & burned the dvd everything was okay the pictures & the coreography to the music, but the video clips inside the show had the sound running on about a 2 second delay. When the next still slide after a video clip showed up you could still hear part of the video clip on the still pic that wasn't supposed to be there for about 2 seconds or so. I was wanting to know what was causing this. I tried various things to figure it out, but couldn't come up with an exact reason. Again, the IMovie show was in sync and everything. I gave the presentation through IMOVIE, the loss of sound being in sync came when I burned it to a dvd using IDVD afterwards. Help....? I just don't want this to happen again when I make a presentation for next year.
Adam,
Could be that you had 12 bit audio, not 16 bit in your original DV from your camcorder. iDVD hates this it can cause a lot of problems.
Other sound sync issues can be fixed in iMovie, even when they are only apparent in iDVD. Using "extract audio" can solve many of them. The same issues that are listed on the iMovie forum will often help iDVD audio sync issues:

Flash Player Sound & Video Problem
Since I have downloaded flash player 11 my videos in explorer are not right. The video and sound are out of sync. Have searched the forums and found no fixes. Can you help? Thanks
To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
Operating system
Browser
Flash Player version
When reporting issues with video or audio, it's also helpful to get your system hardware and driver details. Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
Windows
Mac
Finally, sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player. I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform. If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing. You can verify the use of HTML5 by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the context menu.

This problem has only begun happening recently. I commonly keep my Firefox open overnight with websites like rainymood.com or grooveshark.com playing, as well as several other tabs including but not limited to Facebook, Reddit, and YouTube. Sometimes, after several hours/days of not restarting Firefox or my computer, Firefox begins to become unresponsive - that is to say, pages take a long time to load, opening new tabs is difficult for the browser, and videos will take up to 30 seconds to begin playing. In addition to this, sound will stop playing; if I begin a YouTube video, after the initial period of excessive loading, the video will play, but without any audio. Also, websites such as rainymood.com and grooveshark, even Facebook, will stop making sound.
Note that this is different from a flash plugin crash - when flash crashes, both audio and video become inaccessible and a simple refresh or restart of Firefox will solve the problem. But what is happening here is different; if I refresh the tab, nothing changes, and even if I restart Firefox, it opens again the same way until I restart my computer completely.
Also of note: I have had, in the past, this same thing happen but rainymood.com continued playing, however no other tabs would make sound. The problem is sporadic and I'm not sure where to begin. Also, sometimes this is only a Firefox-specific problem, meaning other programs on my computer can make sounds, but sometimes this problem makes my entire computer stop making sounds, except for Ventrilo, which works but is also unresponsive at first. You can also try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Siri, sounds, alarm, videos not working. How do I back up my iPad and how do I do a factory reset?
Try this:
Make sure IOS is updated to latest version
(How to update your iOS device
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623)
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings (or for network connection issues 'reset network settings').
(no media or data will be deleted from the device, this will only take a minute).
If that doesn't work then backup and then restore the device as new first (to isolate cause of the issue). Then from backup if necessary.

I have been woring on this for a while, but can't seem to make any impact on the problem.
first, The audio, Yes I downloaded the realtek drivers, installed them everything ok. 4/6 channel on the test, mediaplayer, and winamp, but I loss it in Half-Life.
I have tried setting eax and A3X. neither make an effect.
second, The video I have run many different tweak programs, and tried many different setting and I still can't get more that 60 fps in Half-Life. Now normal I wouldn't think that to be to much of a problem other than a week ago this system was Windows 98, with all hardware the same, The Half-Life directory was a copy from the 98 install. On 98 I got constant 99 fps... which is max in Half-Life.
Any Ideas...Thanks for the tip on the video.
As far as the sound goes, this is a fresh install of xp. On a completely new harddrive (no worries of old files). Now one think I did forget to mention was the fact that I am running the MPC not MPC-2 sound (atleast that is what I think they are called). I do not have the Dolby Digital sound I just have the standard 6point sound. I downloaded all of the drivers that I could find on MSI's site, but not a one would give me the ability to change my speakers from front, and rear. That is when I read about using the realtek AC97 drivers to get the control panel. The control panel gets 6 point sound, media player gets 6 point sound, But I was wrong, Winamp doesn't get 6 point, just front 2.
