Unload/load to/from named pipe

Hi,
I want to unload data to a named pipe and
load data from that pipe.
Is there any way for this.
Kind Regards

Some KMs are using named pipe.
take this KM as example : IKM SQL to Teradata (piped TPUMP-FAST-MULTILOAD)
This only work for unix pipe! not for window...

  • Switching from Named Pipes to Tcp/Ip sockets : can I use the same DB or will I loose my data?

    Hi,
    we use MDT 2013 in conjunction with a local SQL Express 2012 database. I configured MDT to use Named Pipes but I want to switch to TCP/IP sockets. Is it possible to change that Network Library for an existing database? Am I going to loose the contents of
    the existing db? Thanks for your insights.

    Just did a testrun with a test deployment share. Made a db with Named Pipes, filled in some values. Created a new db and I was able to choose between some existing databases. I chose the test db and yes all the values are in it.
    Next I tried it with my main db and indeed nothing is lost. Pfjew.

  • Reading / writing to named pipes in java created by C under WinNT

    Hi,
    i just wanted to know if im somehow able to read/write to a named pipe under WinNT. I've created a named pipe, but i cant seem to access it under java.
    i tryed
    File pipe = new File("\\\\.\\pipe\\myPipe");
    but when i do pipe.exists() it returns false..
    When i try to access this very same pipe from C it works like charm, but not from java.. Im 100% sure that the pipe exists, i have a tool that lists me all open pipes under windows and my pipe is listed there too.
    I even tryed to use RandomAccessFile, but it just throws a FileNotFoundException..
    Anyone was ever able to sucessfully read/write from named pipes in java under WinNT (any windoze ?)
    Thanks

    Thanks, but i always get a Pipe not found error (FileNotFoundException), im 100% sure the pipe exists, my .dll can write to it and read from it, im using the pipelist tool from http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/info/tips.shtml#NamedPipes to list me all the pipes current open under WinNT - and my pipe is there...
    My dll creates the pipe, here is the code :
    g_hPipe = CreateNamedPipe(
    lptstrPipeName , // name of pipe
    //FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED |
    PIPE_ACCESS_INBOUND, // pipe open mode
    PIPE_TYPE_BYTE|
    PIPE_READMODE_BYTE |
    PIPE_WAIT, // pipe IO type
    1,// number of instances
    0, // size of outbuf (0 == allocate as necessary)
    0, // size of inbuf
    1000, // default time-out value
    &sa); // security attributes WARNING: passing null
    // all clients have the same security rights as the server
    Is your CreateNamedPipe any different ? Or does it maybe only work under Win2k ? AFAIK named pipes under windows are not accessable through the file system.
    Thanks again for your reply

  • SQL*Loader Named Pipe Load Thread goes to 0

    Hi,
    Running SQL*Loader 10.2.0.1.0 on XP pro against 10g EE 10.2.0.2.0 Production, RAC.
    Control file:
    OPTIONS ( MULTITHREADING=TRUE, DIRECT=TRUE, ROWS=5000000, COLUMNARRAYROWS = 200000 )

    Problem:
    When calling SqlLdr directly against the data file, the import runs in 1:47(min\secs).
    Total stream buffers loaded by SQL*Loader main thread: 408
    Total stream buffers loaded by SQL*Loader load thread: 2036
    However, when I pipe the same data to SqlLdr via a simple c# application with a named pipe, it takes 5:56(mins\secs).
    Pipe Base Load:
    Total stream buffers loaded by SQL*Loader main thread: 104249
    Total stream buffers loaded by SQL*Loader load thread: 0
    It looks like SqlLdr can not go parallel when input is from a named pipe.
    Any Ideas on how I can get my load thread count back up when using pipes ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    According to http://www.mcse.ms/archive27-2006-1-2068094.html you can do the following (substitute your c# program for 'type load.dat'):
    >
    type load.dat|sqlldr control=load.ctl userid=user/password data=\"-\"
    Alternative (for both , unix and windows)- infile syntax:
    load data
    infile "-"
    into table...
    Metalink note 191043.1 may be interesting for you as well.
    Does the performance then improve?

  • Unix Named pipes from Java

    Hello,
    My problem is with a unix named pipe which I have to write to. To do it, I have to use a FileOutputStream. It works fine when some process is reading the named pipe. My problem is when there is no process reading the pipe, my Java app gets blocked in the open method of the FileOutputStream.
    What we want is to open the FileOutputStream without blocking, although there is no process reading the pipe.Is it possible from Java? Is there anything similar to the unix NON_BLOCK?
    Thank you in advance.
    RCG@

    Hi,
    I think, in UNIX you would get the same problem, at least if you are writing then.
    By NON_BLOCK you would not be blocked, but you would get an error each time you try to write. So in UNIX in most cases the blocking is quite adequate: you want to "listen", until someone "calls", and then continue.
    I assume you want to open the pipe first to see if you can access it successfully.
    For this, try the same trick like with C in UNIX:
    Open that pipe first for reading. So there is a reading process: your JVM.
    Does this help you?

    If you feel that I have answered your question then please "Mark as Answer".

    Hi,
     Shared memory is a security threat reported by several security audit tools. In our company, we are using "DBProtect" and "FortiDB" tools. Both checks for "Shared memory" & "Named Pipes" protocols. In case,
    our server is compromised then the last step is to get into the SQL Server to steal the data and we are trying to restrict this from being happening. So, we are disabling both protocols.
     Finally, we got it worked.
     "Cliconfig" in run command and enable "TCP/IP" protocols and it worked like a charm. This is a fluke resolution and I don't know the technical reason why we need to do this in "Client Configuration" on the server when
    we have "Configuration Manager".
     We successfully configured by disabling "Shared memory/Named Pipes" protocols. SQL Browser is also disabled & no aliases are configured.
    Thanks.

  • Loading data from a remote machine

    Hi,
    I would like to know the process to load data from a file in remote machine to an oracle table. The load file is dumped to a folder in a remote machine and it is a pipe delimited one. I am using oracle 11g.
    Can I create a directory in oracle, which maps to the remote location, and create an external table?
    Thanks in advance
    Arun

    The best method would depend on the requirements. Are files regularly created on that server? What are the file sizes? Are files to be kept after loading for history or auditing purposes? Etc.
    You can run SQL*Loader on the remote platform and load the data, across the network, into the database.
    However, if the data set is large, it may be faster to zip that data, scp it across to the Oracle server, and then unzip and load it there.
    If the remote platform is a user platform and the user needs to load data - then that can be done via a web interface. User uploads the file to Oracle (via http). The file is received as a CLOB by the database. PL/SQL code can then process that file - either by parsing it directly, or unloading the CLOB to a local file and then loading that file via an external table.
    You'll need to look at what the requirements are, before looking for a solution.

  • Problem in Loading Data from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
    I am a university student and using ODI for my final project on real-time data warehousing. I am trying to load data from MS SQL Server 2000 into Oracle 10g target table. Everything goes fine until I execute the interface for the initial load. When I choose the CKM Oracle(Create unique index on the I$ table) km, the following step fails:

    I am using a surrogate key column in my target table alongwith the natural key. The natural key is populated by the primary key of my source table, but for the surrogate key, I have created a sequence in my oracle schema where the target table exists and have used the following code for mapping:
    <%=snpRef.getObjectName( "L" , "SQ_PRJ_DIM_REGION" , "D" )%>.nextval
    I have chosen to execute this code on target.
    Among my attempts to solve this problem was to set Create Index option of the CKM Oracle(Create Index for the I$ Table) to No so that it wont create any index on the flow table. I also tried to use the simple CKM Oracle km . Both solutions allowed the interface to execute successfully without any errors, but the data was not loaded into the target table.
    When I right-click on the Prj_Dim_Region data store and choose Data, it shows empty. Pressing the SQL button in this data store shows a dialog box " New Query" where I see this query:
    select * from NOVELTYFURNITUREDW.PRJ_DIM_REGION
    But when i press OK to run it, I get this error message:

    Hi Cezar,
    Can u plz help me with this scenario?
    I have one Oracle data model with 19 source tables and one SQL Server data model with 10 target tables. I have created 10 interfaces which use JournalizedDataOnly on one of the tables in the interface; e.g in interface for DimCustomer target table, I have 2 tables, namely Customer and Address, but the journalizing filter appear only on Customer table and this option is disabled for Address automatically.
    Now I want to create a package using OdiWaitForLog event detection. Is it possible to put all these 10 interfaces in just one package to populate the target tables? It works fine when I have only one interface and I use the name of one table in the interface for Table Name parameter of OdiWaitForLogData event, but when I try a comma seperated list of table names[Customer, Address] this error happens
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    and if I use this method <%=odiRef.getObjectName("L","model_code","logical_schema","D")%>, I get this error
    "-CDC_SET_NAME=Exception getObjectName("L", "model_code", "logical_schema", "D") : SnpLSchema.getLSchemaByName : SnpLschema does not exist" "
    Please let me know how to make it work?
    Do I need to create separate data models each including only those tables which appear in their corresponding interface and package? Or do I need to create multiple packages each with only one journalized interface to populate only one target table?
    Thank you for your time in advance.

    Hi Albert,
    Can you try to use the SQL Server Management Studio on server ‘SQL-IDA’ to connect to the instance on server ‘SQL-IDB’ to see if it works or not?
    There are possible reasons to error 53:
     a) typo in the server name, or using "/" rather than "\" between server name and instance name, e.g. "myserver/myinst" is not correct.
     b) name resolution to the server name is not correct, "ping -a yourserver" would tell if that's the case
     c) The server machine is firewall'ed and file sharing is not in the exception list. You need put "File and Printer Sharing" in exception.

    Hai,
    I need an clarification in export, import and compress of dumps using named pipes.I am using Oracle 9i RAC 9.2.0.4 in AIX 5.3. Every month i have to move list of tables from one database to another database after taking export dumps. The list of activities done by me at present are given below.
    1. Taking export and gziping the dump file at the same time using named pipes.
    2. Doing uncompress and import in the second database using named pipes.
    We are doing compress for space constraints. Now my doubt is whether using named pipes, we can do both operation of import and compress of dump file at the same time. i.e, at the time of export itself , using named pipes, i need both import in the another database and compress the zip file. Is it possible?

  • How to effectively remove a loaded SWF from the stage?

    I can not figure out a proper coding to remove a loded SWF from the stage.
    Here is my set up.
    I have a layout segmented into labeled section. In the section labeled "products" I have a layout consisting of product images acting as buttons which bring a user to another labeled section "prdctsPopUps"
    In the "prdctsPopUps" section I have placed an instance of LoaderMax placed into an mc container. Placing LoaderMax into an mc container automatically resolved an issue of clearing loaded SWFs from stage when I come back to "products" section.
    I specified the variable in the "products" section with the following set up:
    var sourceVar_ProductsPopUps:String;
    function onClickSumix1PopUp(event:MouseEvent):void {
                        sourceVar_ProductsPopUps="prdcts_popups/sumix1-popup_tl.swf";
                        gotoAndPlay("prdctsPopUps");
    So each button has its own "....swf" URL and they all open fine and I can come back to "products" section without any issues.
    However inside the swf (which loads through LoaderMax which is placed into an mc) there are other buttons which bring a user to labeled section "xyz". Which also functions properly. It opens as it is supposed to be and without any previously loaded "...swf" on the stage.
    At the labeled section "xyz" there is a limited set of buttons repeating from section "products" which has to bring a user back to the same set up in the "prdctsPopUps" labeled section and open a corresponding "...swf" .
    However only the last opened "...swf" will appear in that section. Effectively the one which was originally opened from the "prdctsPopUps" section and not the one which was supposed to be opened from the "xyz" section.
    I can not understand why it would work from one labeled section and not from another. I can not figure out on which section which code/function needed to be placed.
    Here is the set up from a button from the "xyz" section whcih supposed to bring a user to the same "prdctsPopUps" section but to load a different "...swf"
    var sourceVar_ProductsPopUps_fromXYZ:String;
    function onClick_floralytePopUp_fromXYZ(event:MouseEvent) :void {
                        sourceVar_ProductsPopUps_fromXYZ="prdcts_popups/floralyte-popup_tl.swf";
                        gotoAndPlay("prdctsPopUps");
    Here is the code set up for the LoaderMax from the "prdctsPopUps" section:
    var loaderProductPopUps:SWFLoader = new SWFLoader(sourceVar_ProductsPopUps,
                                                                                                        estimatedBytes:5000,
                                                                                                        container:holderMovieClip,
                                                                                                        onProgress:progressHandler,
                                                                                                        onComplete:completeHandler,
                                                                                                        centerRegistration:true,
                                                                                                        alpha:1,
                                                                                                        scaleMode:"none",
                                                                                                        width:540,
                                                                                                        height:730,
                                                                                                        crop:true,
                                                                                                        autoPlay:false
    function progressHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void{
              progressBarPopUp_mc.gradientbarPopUp_mc.scaleX = loaderProductPopUps.progress;
    function completeHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void{
              var loadedImage:ContentDisplay = event.target.content;
              TweenMax.to(progressBarPopUp_mc, 1.5, {alpha:0, scaleX:0.25, scaleY:0.25});
    loaderProductPopUps.load();
    Is there something which needs to be imported, or specific function needs to be specified in a specific labeled section?

    actually, i think you'll need to use something like:
    var loaderProductPopUps:SWFLoader;
    if ((loaderProductPopUps){
    if(loaderProductPopUps.content)){
       loaderProductPopUps.unload();
    loaderProductPopUps= new SWFLoader(sourceVar_ProductsPopUps, //the value of sourceVar_ProductsPopUps allows to load mulitple SWFs from the products page.
                                                                                                         estimatedBytes:5000 ,
                                                                                                         container:holderMov ieClip,// more convinient and easier to manage if to place the LoaderMax into an empty mc (holderMovieClip)
                                                                                                                                                                         // if not will work as well. Then the line container:holderMovieClip, has to be replaced with container:this,
                                                                                                                                                                         // can be any size, can not be scaled as it distorts the content
                                                                                                         onProgress:progress Handler,
                                                                                                         onComplete:complete Handler,
                                                                                                         centerRegistration: true,
                                                                                                         //x:-260, y:-320, //no need for this is if used: centerRegistration:true,
                                                                                                         alpha:1,
                                                                                                         scaleMode:"none",
                                                                                                         //scaleX:0, scaleY:0,
                                                                                                         //vAlign:"top",
                                                                                                         width:540,
                                                                                                         height:730,//scales proportionally but I need to cut off the edges
                                                                                                         crop:true,
                                                                                                         autoPlay:false
    function progressHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void{
              progressBarPopUp_mc.gradientbarPopUp_mc.scaleX = loaderProductPopUps.progress;
    function completeHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void{
              var loadedImage:ContentDisplay = event.target.content;
              //TweenMax.to(loadedImage, 1.5, {alpha:1, scaleX:1, scaleY:1});//only need this line if corresponding values are changed in SWF loader constructor
              TweenMax.to(progressBarPopUp_mc, 1.5, {alpha:0, scaleX:0.25, scaleY:0.25});
    loaderProductPopUps.load();

  • Re: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server

    Hi,
    I'm encountering an issue with "Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 windows" and am having problems determining how to fix it due to the environment I'm using.  I have two SQL Servers installed on two separate Win2K3 Server boxes, one is SQL Server 2000 and the other is SQL Server 2005.  The SQL Server 2000 contains the actual application data.  The 2005 database is used only for Reporting Services.  I've set up the reports on SSRS such that their datasources hit the 2000 server.  This is using SQL Server authentication.
    When testing the reports via SSRS (in Visual Studio 2005), the connection to the data works and the reports are generated fine.  When I deploy them to the reporting server and launch IE to test locally (still on the 2005 box), I get this "Named Pipes Provider, error 40" issue.  I made sure that Named Pipes and TCP were enabled and the port set at 1433 (to match that on the 2000 box).
    Now I changed the datasource's authentication from SQL Server to Windows authentication.  I tested this in SSRS and this works too.  When I redeployed the reports with this authentication change, testing the reports via IE locally (on the 2005 box) worked.  Great.  Now when I open IE on an external box, i.e. on the 2000 box, and try to test the reports, I get this same error 40 issue.  I've been through a few threads describing the error 40, fiddling around with the SQL Server configuration as well as SSRS, to no avail.  I have a feeling this error 40 issue has to due with permissions/authentication between the SQL Server boxes but I can't really be sure.  Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot my situation.  Thanks.

    Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server :
    I.   Incorrect connection string, such as using SqlExpress.
    Check out: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=558456&SiteID=17
                    https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1245564&SiteID=1
    The typical error when dealing with Express includes:
    a.  User is not aware of SqlExpress was installed as a named instance, consequently, in his/her connection string, he/she only specify ".","localhost" etc instead of ".\SqlExpress" or "<machinename>\Sqlexpress".
    b. Np was disabld by default after installing SqlExpress.
    c. If Sqlexpress was installed on the remote box, you need to enable remote connection for Express.
    Please read the following blog for best practice of connecting to SqlExpress.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/03/23/558651.aspx
    II. Named Pipes(NP) was not enabled on the SQL instance.
    Check out: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=136253&SiteID=1
    Oppose to SQL 2000 which turn on all protocols, SQL 2005 SKUs turn off NP by default. So, when you see this error, please check:
    1) Go to SQL Server Configuration Manager, See Server has NP enabled.
    2) %windir%\program files\microsoft sql server\mssql.1\mssql\log, notepad ERRORLOG, see whether Server is listening on NP.  You should see "Server named pipe provider is ready to accept connection on [ \\.\pipe\sql\query ] or [\\.\pipe\mssql$<InstanceName>\sql\query]"
    3) Notice that "sql\query" is the default pipe name, so you need to know server is listening on which pipe name. eg: if you specify server pipe name is "sql\query1", then you would see in the errorlog that server listening on [ \\.\pipe\sql\query1 ], and go to SQL Server Configuration Manager, click client Named Pipe properties, see whether the pipe name is same with the one server listening on.
    4) If you are using SQL Native Client ODBC/OLEDB provider({SQL Native Client} or SQLNCLI), go to SQL Configuration Manager, click client protocols, make sure NP and TCP are both enabled. Right click properties of NP, make sure client is using the same pipe name as server for connection.
    5) If you are using MDAC ODBC/OLEDB({SQL Server} or SQLOLEDB) provider, in command line, launch "cliconfg.exe" and make sure NP enabled and right pipe name specified.
    III. Remote connection was not enabled.
    Check out: when you right click on the Server in SQL Server Management Studio, in Connections, the Remote server connections part, you have enabled the "Allow remote connections to this server" check box
    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=322792&SiteID=1
    https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=763875&SiteID=1
    If you are making a remote connection, namely, your target SQL Server is on the different box as client application, you might need to check whether:
    a. "File and Printer Sharing" was opened in Firewall exception list.
    b. Please see the blog for enabling remote connection for express and troubleshooting tips of remote connection.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2005/11/14/492616.aspx
    http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/09/30/SQL-Server-2005-Remote-Connectivity-Issue-TroubleShooting.aspx
    IV. Server not started, or point to not a real server in your connection string.
    Check out: Open SQL Server Surface Area Configuration and ensure all the required services are started, Remote Connections are configured.
    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=348662&SiteID=1
    a. use "sc query mssqlserver" for default instance or "sc query mssql$<instancename>" to make sure SQL Server was started. Sometimes, reseason behind the broken of your client application w/ this error:40 might be SQL server restarted and failed, so, it'd better for you to double check.
    b. User specified wrong server in their connection string, as described in the forum discussion, "MSSQLSERVER" is an invalid instance name. Remember, when you connect to default instance, <machinename> could be best representitive for the instance, when you connect to a named instance such as sqlexpress, you should specify <machinename>\<instancename> as data source in your connection string.
     V. Other reasons such as incorrect security context.
    Check out: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=192622&SiteID=1
    Such error also occured during user operation such as moving database or db mirroring or cluster, any DB OP that might invovle different sql instances, namely, the destination database is located in another sql instance and user is not aware of the state of the destination. I recommend you first isolate whether this fail is during connection stage or data operation stage.
    a. During data operation, you are normally asked to type in the destination server name whether it is default to "(local)" or another server "<remotemachinename>". So, remember the exact string that represent the target instance, then when the error repros, open command line, use "sqlcmd -S<representitive> -E" ,see what happens, if the connection fail, please follow up above I - IV troubleshooting lists. otherwise continue.
    b. If you can make basic conection, but still face the error, then there must be something that server reject the connection or client close the connection for some reason.
    VI. Please try basic connectivity tests between the two mahcines you are working on. One simple way to verifty connectivity is to use command line tools, such as osql.exe. For example, osql -E -Stcpervername\instancename. If it connects cross-machine successfully, please also verify that your connection string in your scenario is correct.
    Here are some blogs which could be helpful: just follow the basic connectivity troubleshooting guidelines on the SQL Protocols blog, see:
