Unlock carrier locked iPhone(perhaps refurbished

Hello,
I've purchased a used iPhone 3GS 16gb 2 years ago.
The person selling the phone said that it was carrier locked to 3 in Denmark but it turned out that it was possible to use it with 3 in Sweden( where I live) as well. However when restoring it I need to start it up with a pre-paid 3 sim-card from Denmark, after that the Swedish one works fine.
Since the 2 year time period for unlocking must have expired I now thought about unlocking it, however when I contacted 3 in Denmark they couldn't find the IMEI number in their system...
So my question is could this be a refurbished phone? If so how can you then unlock it if the carrier can't find the IMEI number in their systems?

That may be because you have a Swedish sim in the iPhone ( if I followed your changes correctly )
All carriers need to see the iPhone active on their system before they can unlock
Must admit I haven't come across any time limit for unlocking
put the Danish sim in use it in or by the  Danish mainland and they will then probably see it

  • Get a new non carrier locked iPhone?

Well I canceled my sprint contract and I'm left with a carrier locked iPhone for sprint, well since I bought apple care + I have insurance on phone. My iPhone 4s has battery issues and if I went to apple and they gave me a new iPhone would that new one be carrier free meaning I could take it to AT&T with me? I think that would be the case right?

Well all the iPhones are the same when new when you activate it to a carrier, the carrier then locks it to its company, so if it's unactivated and they give me unactivated new phone then it's not locked to anything, this should work because I had learned that all the iPhone 4s have same internals because apple designed to work both ways.?

How can I unlock my locked iphone that's completely locked?

You'll need to connect the iPhone to your computer and restore it:

If that still doesn't work, try DFU mode:

I totally misdead your question. Sorry

  • Iphone 6 64GB (model: A1586) + Sprint Carrier  + have paid full price of 749 USD (excl taxes in Nov 2014) = Unlocked or Locked Iphone 6??

    Hi all,
How should I start. Will try to keep it short and to the point:
I was in US in Nov 2014 for work
In Nov 2014, I have purchased on online Apple Store US in first instance an Iphone 6 64GB (model: A1549) with T-mobile carrier (unlocked version) for a price of 749 USD (excluding taxes & etc)
Upon arrival at Apple Store at Monterey, CA, to pick up above purchase. I had discussed with Apples sales person that I lived in The Netherlands and that latter purchase should be compatible on the Dutch mobile phone carrier: Vodafone and that  full LTE-capabilities would work in The Netherlands.
This Apple Sales person had advised me that I should purchase a different model and should change from model: A1549 to model: A1586.
He showed me this website: https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/. Based on this site and his expertise, I believed him and have changed above model and have purchased an Iphone 6 64GB (model: A1586) with Sprint Carrier for price of 749 USD (exl taxes & etc)
I have read so many stories online, that I am screwed with this above purchase, because I have purchased a simlocked Iphone and that I will not be able to use this phone to its fullest capabilities and also not workable with my Dutch simcard of Vodafone.
I kindly ask your expertise opinion, whether my Iphone 6 64GB (model: A1586) + Sprint Carrier  + have paid full price of 749 USD (in Nov 2014) is sim-"Unlocked" or sim-"Locked" Iphone??
If "Locked", are there any solution to have it unlocked since start of, I think, Jan or Feb 2015 Sprint carrier will be selling unlocked Iphone 6. Prior to latter date, it doesn't say whether they will apply this retrospectively for other phones as well.
If "Unlocked", please confirm how I can check this? If I look at the current price for the Iphone 6 with the Sprint carrier and 2 year contract. This combination is being sold for 199 USD (excl taxes). I would think that my Iphone is unlocked since I have paid 749 USD (excl taxes) in Nov 2014.
Please, please help me guys...I guess this is lesson learned for me the next time to do a better research before buying any Apple Iphones in US to be used in Europe (in this case The Netherlands).
Thank you in advance for your help and taking a look into this issue.

    Hi Peter,
I did insert my Dutch Vodafone simcard on the Iphone and it works.
I read on some newsgroup that at some point I will not be able to make use this phone, because Sprint would give a certain window to activate the Iphone and if you don't do it, then it would lock the usage of any simcard beside a Sprint simcard. Due to latter, I got nervous and wanted to check this to be sure that there is no need to get stressed all about it.
Indeed, you are right, just checked the model of my Iphone 6 an can confirm is a (CDMA) Sprint MG6G2LL/A.
I am not sure what you mean whether I have "activated" my Iphone. For my understanding, could you please explain what you mean with "activate"?
Did I need to follow certain procedures on the Iphone? I just took out the Sprint carrier simcard when I came back to NL and just popped in my Dutch Vodafone simcard on this phone and was able to internet with LTE and receive and make calls.
When I purchased this Iphone in US, there was indeed a Sprint carrier simcard in the iphone. I never did anything with this Sprint carrier simcard.
I had only made of use of this Iphone in US and in The Netherlands:
of its (free) wi-fi capabilities on the road during my stay in US and
had tested it in US by inserting a Dutch T-mobile simcard and a Dutch Vodafone simcard in this Iphone.
And I was able to calls and receive calls with both Dutch simcards on this Iphone in US.
Upon arrival back in The Netherlands I was able to make use of the 4G/LTE capabilities.
But did find out that sometimes it would act weird and therefore I had linked it that it was due to the Sprint simlock.
Based on above facts, what would your answer be? Did I miss something else that I needed to take account on?
And to be frankly, looking at the paid price for the Iphone 6 64GB of approx 749 USD (paid in Nov 2014) and the price offered for a Iphone 6 64GB icm Sprint subscription would be 299 USD (as of today, Jan 2015). I would assume that I have unlocked version. Wouldn't you agree on this?

  • Carrier locked iphones

    Hi
So im a sales rep for rogers,
we were informed that any phones locked to a carrier could be unlocked however those iphones when reconnected to itunes would relock themselves we have seen this in practise at the store people coming in due to locked phone unlocking issues when moving from one carrier to another. One of your apple reps at the apple store in west edmonton mall informed my clients that they could get thier telus phone unlocked by a phone unlocking service provider and that would be fine to change the phone to us as a carrier and that thier would be no issues when they update thier phone. from what we know on our end and from what ive seen this not true so i would like some clarification on the policies and stipulations on the confusion over the status of locked iphones if you could get back to me right away with that information it would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you
    collin smilar

so heard back from apple. apparently when you have a phone that was locked you can get it unlocked however when you update the software that WOULD reloct your phone thus for most users making this an undoe expense as they would have to do this every time they updated thier phones and thus may as well change to a phone unlocked or get a phone with thier carrier

  • Unlocked and locked iPhone

Whats is an unlocked iPhone????     ,  and what is a locked iPhone????

No. There is nothing written on the phone or the box that will identify a locked or unlocked phone, with the possible exception of a carrier logo, which will pretty much always indicate that the device is locked. Lack of a carrier logo is NOT a guarantee that the phone is unlocked.
What an intelligent consumer will do is purchase the phone from an authorized source instead of buying a gray market phone from an untrusted party.

  • Will straight talk work on a carrier locked iPhone 5c (alltel)n

ive read online reviews of straight talk working on locked cmda iPhone 5c. Has anyone had an experience with this? I've also read on straight talks website that cmda phone don't need to be unlocked only gsm phone have to be unlocked. I just need confirmation before I go and spend $50-60 bucks! Thanks

    Edited:
Without the previous owners assistance the phone is under Activation Lock and Apple will NOT help you.  You must get the previous owner to turn off activation lock and remove the phone from iCloud.  If you can't, you have a nice $200 paperweight.  Sorry.  The Carrier lock is an entirely different subject.  You won't be able to do anything until the phone is released from the previous owner.

You don't get it. THOSE SITES ARE FRAUDS AND SCAMS. DO NOT RELY ON THEM. If you gave them any personal information you risk identity theft.
No one has any way of knowing whether it is locked to EE, Orange, or T-Mobile. However, your relatives said that they used it with T-Mobile, so most likely it is locked to T-Mobile. You (or your relatives) must contact T-Mobile and ask if they will unlock the phone.
I have given you the answer. It is up to you to decide if you want to use the information I have provided or not.

  • Unlocking a carrier-locked iPhone 4s (Sprint)

    Hi,
So, i have this iPhone 4s which is locked to Sprint. I want it unlocked so I can use it in my homecountry, Denmark. Sprint won't unlock the phone since I don't have an account with them and not living in the States. I was told by the Sprint-supporter to contact Apple. I browsed the web alot, and can't seem to find a legit solution, some offering a unlock which is made through iTunes (officialiphoneunlock.co.uk). Could this be true?
My question is: are there anyway for me to get it unlocked? Will it remain locked to Sprint for all eternity?
    Hope for your answers, thanks!
    Best regards,
    Andreas

BTW, the website you mention does not unlock via hacking the phone - it is done by someone who works in the unlocking department of the network and is paid to secretly process the unlock exactly as if you had requested it officially. Obviously, the legality of this is questionable, and is almost certainly done without the knowledge of the network.

  • Unlocking a locked iPhone without iTunes or computer access

    Hi all,
Sorry in advance for the umpteenth "locked out of my iPhone" question, but it's for my sister...
I understand from reading around that if I don't have access to a computer to restore my locked-out iPhone, I need to force the phone into recovery mode and then restore it. I've seen this URL quite a lot: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
My question is that the how-to in that URL seems predicated on access to a computer/iTunes?  Is there a step-by-step guide if you have no access to a computer or iTunes for restoring, or is that not possible?  Losing all data is not a concern for me (it probably is for her, but my understanding is there's no way to do this without losing all data... I hope she's backed it up!)
    Thanks in advance.

Please read the earlier responses. It cannot be done. You have to restore the phone via iTunes after the carrier has authorized the unlock.

  • Unlocked or locked iphone 4

I ordered an iphone 4 from apple online store in Canada and I contacted with Sales Support by phone. They told me that my iphone 4 will be locked if I purchased an iphone 4 from apple online store and I can go to Rogers or Bell to pay some fees and they can unlock my iphone. So is it true? I don't know why I purchase an iphone 4 online but it's locked.

    No.
I don't know why I purchase an iPhone 4 online but it's locked.
If you buy the iPhone at full price directly from Apple Canada it will be unlocked.
    <http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=OTY2ODA2OQ>
"When you purchase your iPhone from the Apple Online Store, you’ll get it commitment-free. So you can sign up for service with the carrier of your choice and change your carrier at any time."
If your iPhone from the Apple Canada online store is locked, something is wrong. The online order does not ask about carriers when you order, so what carrier would it be locked to?
If you buy at full price from an Apple Canada retail store they can also provide a free SIM for any Canadian carrier, but make sure they do not put the SIM on the phone's receipt or else that will lock the phone to the SIM's carrier.
If you buy it from any carrier, or use a carrier's discount at an Apple retail store, it will be locked to that carrier. Canadian carriers will not unlock iPhones, no matter how much you pay them.

  • How can i unlock(country lock) iphone?

i used to belong in United States and also used iphone4 at at&t. i did not know the country lock before i flighted to foreign country. One of my friend asked me about the country lock i had to have country unlock if i using this iphone from U.S to other country. So my question is how to do country unlock ?

You can't. Only the carrier it's locked to can authorize unlocking it. AT&T will NOT do so under any circumstances.
Sell it and buy one you can use.

  • Unlocked vs locked iphone 4s

i am planning to buy a new iphone 4s. which is better unlocked from apple store or locked one? please suggest me some good idea..
Thanks for reply and ur time.

"better" depends totally on how and with what carrier you wish to use the phone, and whether you are willing to pay the full cost of the phone up front or want the carrier to subsidize part of the purchase price as part of your contract for cell service. Without knowing where you live or what your intentions are, there's no way anyone here can offer any informed opinions.
Just to make sure you understand the terms, "locked" means that a phone is restricted to use with a single cell service provider. This usually comes as part of a contract with the carrier where the carrier pays part of the cost of the phone at the time of purchase. "unlocked" means that the phone is not restricted to use with any specific carrier. For that capability, though, you have to pay the full cost of the phone when you purchase.
    Regards.
