    What to Bring with You
Your old mobile phone, if you’re replacing it.
Social Security number of the account holder.
    Valid government-issued photo ID.
Carrier account password, if you have one.
    Your Apple ID and password.

According to Apple's list (link above) you will probably want to pick up a Sprint or US Cellular model. HOWEVER, as I mentioned above I know that the Verizon iPhones come unlocked from the factory (assuming it will be the same for iPhone 6 and 6+). I DO NOT KNOW if the Sprint and US Cellular models come unlocked. But I am sure some quick internet research will lead you to the answer.
I think your goal would be to get a Sprint or US Cellular version. Also I believe a law was just recently passed that allows someone to have a phone unlocked by the carrier no questions asked. So even if the Sprint and US Cellular iPhones are locked you can have them unlocked.

  • Question about Legally Unlocked iPhones & Update 'locking'?

Please forgive me if this has been covered before, as I am a totally newbie in this area.
I have a question regarding legally unlocked iphones:
If I bought an iphone from a country that offered legally unlocked cellphones like Singapore for example, and then used it/patched it up for the first time AFTER bringing it back into the US, would this 'lock' the cellphone to only work in the US, or with ATT?
The reason I ask is due to two points: A) I know that certain countries offer cellphones that were never locked to begin with. B) I have read that after installing the latest patch (2.2.1 I think) in the US, iphones that were previously locked and then unlocked, will be re-locked.
So my question is basically this: What would happen in the event that you update a phone that was never locked to begin with? Would it 'lock' for the first time? Or would it remain unlocked still?
    Thank you.

Legally unlocked iPhones have to be updated in the country where they were purchased to guarantee they are not relocked...Every country has their own iTunes -- When you connect to iTunes in the US you are connecting with a US ISP address on your computer. You would have a completely different ISP code in a different country.
Wait to update and see what others are finding before you attempt to update in the US. It is completely within Apple's right to relock phones used within the USA.
This is not the right forum site to get updates on this. A google search will bring up non-Apple websites where you will get up to date information about this.

  • Will i lose my data after re-installing my iphone ?

Last night i updated my iphone and i was unaware that its not a Factory Unlock cellphone. Now my iphone got locked. Will i lose my data if i re-install ios or can i restore my data after re-installing ? Please help as i dont wana lose my data. 2nd i dont have backup of my data too

If there was a backup created prior to doing the update this will be available to you after the update .
If you did not backup the data to itunes, there may have been a back up created in icloud.
Without a created back up from either icloud or itunes your data will be lost.

  • 9630 Tour Device here in the U.S. Cant authenticate with BES that is overseas - help?

My 9630 device was connected to the BES of the my company which is physically in Europe, but stopped getting emails. I am with Verizon as a carrier, they obviously are not as they are in Europe.
For some reason, when setting up the email my device fails to authenticate with 'the server', which I presume the device means to be the company's email server. When I make the connection request, I see the BES data email come into my inbox and process itself, but the device just sits in a 'Activating - Contacting Server.....' state until it times out.
The wierd thing is that I did have it working for 2 weeks, but it has been offline for a month now. Initially I was able to send emails, but not receive, but after some tinkering around by the BES agent in Europe, I can longer send or receive.
I guess what I am looking for is a list of potential causes that would result in a device not authenticating to the mail server, so that I can go through it one by one and they are telling me it's likely the device or the SIM and I just don't believe that it is.
    What we do know:
    - It is not related to my IQ and the classic User IQ Exceeded conclusion
    - It is not related to my password as we have changed this many times, including creating secondary email accounts on the server
    - The guys in Europe were able to authenticate my email to a different device
    - The device works fine, or at least seems to, as I get my personal emails to the device
Help! Anyone have any experience with this?
    -Alf

  • SPA942 - Factory Reset Via Jumpers

We purchased nine of the SPA942 phones from a VoIP provider who installed and provisioned the phone.  The company went out of business and sold our account to a new provider.  The new provider does not support the SPA942 we were forced to buy new phones.  We want to reset the phones prior to letting them go.  The old service provided provided the "admin password" so we can do a factory reset.  However, of the nine phones the password worked on only three of them.  Since the provider network is down, they can not help us any further.
So we are looking for a way to reset the remaining phones and reset the admin password.
How can we do this.  Our engineering department has opened the phones and there are some jumpers and we were hoping one of them would force a complete reset.  However, they can find no technical documentation on what the jumpers are for.
Please help, this was an investment for us and we thought that by going with Linksys we would have access to some good documentation on this.
Thanks in advance for your help.

While your situation clearly sucks, I think it's wrong to Blame Linksys here. When company X makes a deal with a hardware maker to resell a branded device, it wouldn't make much sense if that branding is easily removable (the branded hardware is often sold with very little in terms of margin so it's the contract you get with the device to make up for it). Think of branded and SIM locked cellphones.. while it's not illegal to remove such restrictions, you often don't have a legal recourse to demand the liberation of your device. So, if you purchase a device, make sure it is an unbranded and unlocked one, or you risk making the same experience over and over again. Unfortunately, these phones aren't so prevalent that there is enough interest in unlocking... otherwise you'd see unlocking sites pop up on the Internet like we have sites to unlock cellphones. Also, I know this isn't helpful at the least, you said you made an investment in Linksys.. but you really haven't.. you made an investment into hardware from a certain provider that's reselling Linksys product with a proprietary/locked down firmware.. it's not quite the same thing. While Linksys is somehwat less than accomodating when it comes to fixing bugs, they keep on improving the phones - the 5.x firmware was quite an improvement, and now we have the free 4 line upgrade. Compared to other phones (I have a bunch from a bunch of different manufacturers), I think I got about my money's worth. Linksys' policy on support is that you have to get it from the company that sold you the devices (at least for voice products it is.. it used to be different and I find it deplorable that it changed, but it is what it is) - so if the company is out of business, you're SOL (or if the company cannot give you support... there's a lot of Linksys resellers out there who will give you no support whatsoever for the devices you buy.. leaving you stuck asking q
There are two essential pieces to tracking down a problem with your VoIP equipment:
The configuration of every device involved
    SIP protocol traces
And don't forget: there's no such thing as giving too much information when describing a problem.

  • Using internet sharing in other countries

    Hello,
I've bought a HTC 8X unlocked cellphone from Verizon and moved to Brazil since them.
How can I use internet sharing here? The cellphone says it's not allowed, although my internet plan here does allow me to do that.
It seems besides being an unlocked phone, Verizon is still locking the internet sharing option.
    Any help is really appreciated,
    Cheers,
    André

The answer is not really, but sort of.
If you have a US mailing address, a credit card that bills to that address, and a US Social Security Number, you can purchase and activate an iPhone in the US. The problem is that the phone is locked to AT&T as the mobile provider, so when you go to those countries, you will be roaming, which is expensive for calls and outlandishly expensive for data. You will not be able to inset a SIM card from a local mobile provider; it will not work. Also, AT&T may cancel you for roaming too much.
A fair number of people outside the US (and inside as well) appear to have purchased iPhones and hacked them so that they can be used as an iPod and WiFi device but not as a phone. I think those in other countries are hoping that someday they will be able to use the phone features in their country, though it is not certain that will ever be the case.

  • Moved to Helsinki with my 8320 Curve unlocked, can't get it to work

Hi, I just moved to Finland and brought with me the 8320 Curve, which I previously unlocked from T-Mobile. They basically gave me the instructions and said it would be free to use with a new SIM card.
I just got a SIM card and the cellphone works perfectly but no other feature. The carrier, DNA, said I wouldhave to set it up with BB since they only carry Nokia. Basically they do not help at all, like with everythingelse in Finland, no customer service.
    Kiitos,
    Carolina

Port Forwarding.....or Port Mapping....as Apple calls it is a difficult and complex configuration method for most users. Because there are so many variables involved in this type of setup, it is not possible to provide a step by step guide that will work for everyone with all devices.
It is possible that a setup guide exists for the the WD drive and AirPort Extreme, but you will have to go looking for it on the Internet. Even if you find one, it may not be tailored to your specific situation or needs.
Sometimes, you can do everything right....at least according to someone's article or "how to" guide, and things still will not work correctly.
In situations like this, when you really don't know what to do, you need to enlist the aid of an IT pro, who will know what to do based on your particular products and unique circumstances. Sometimes....they won't be able to get things working either due to particular circumstances.
But, before you do this, I would strongly recommend that you use a Static IP address for your Internet connection with your ISP. If you do not have this now, contact them to ask them if they offer this type of connection. Expect to pay more for this type of service, of course.

  • Is it possible to unlock a Treo 750v to use with O2?

    Hello!
Yes you can get the Vodafone Treo 750 unlocked but cellphone manufacters cannot this and is usually privilaged by the carriers to perform the unlock.  Since you no longer with Vodafone, probably can find a store that offers unlocking services.  Vodafone uses the same bands as O2 so the services should be the same.  Unlocking a phone usually does require the SIM card of the carrier that the phone is subsidized to to make it work.
At this point, best to find a 3rd-party vendor that unlocks phones.

  • What is the best plan for an unlocked iPhone in the US?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I am thinking of buying a no-contract unlocked iPhone from Apple.
I currently have a no-contract iPhone 4s on Virgin Mobile (USA). My plan is 30$ for 300 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data. Since VirginMobile is CDMA, I'm guessing they don't unlock their iPhones or let other SIM cards work on the iPhones issued through them (this is assuming the 4s has the GSM capability).
I want a no-contract unlocked iPhone just so I will have the flexiblity of using it overseas since I'm usually making a trip once a year.
    My questions are:
If I buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple (thinking of getting a 5S, 32 GB in white and silver), are there any plans that I can use that are as cheap as VirginMobile's?
I have heard that Verizon iPhones come unlocked (although they have to be activated through Verizon, but a T-Mobile sim can be used and so on). Is this true? Are AT&T iPhones the same?
Will I be able to keep my current cellphone number from Virgin if I switch to a no-contract iPhone and start using a SIM card?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Meg.
So would a Verizon device-only iPhone 5S still be the better choice if I plan to use GSM in the US (and not the CDMA part of the Verizon iPhone which would lock me to their service).
Ideally, if I had the device in my hand, I would like to use TMobile's prepaid plan (40$ for unlimited talk, text, and 500 mb of data). Upon getting the phone, couldn't I just discard the included verizon simcard (without my activation) and just pop in the TMobile SIM card since the Verizon device-only instrument comes with the GSM unlocked? ( In other words, I don't have to ask Verizon to unlock the GSM part of the iPhone 5S )
Also, if this is what my goal is (to use a prepaid Tmobile sim), I could just buy an unlocked sim-free iPhone 5S from Apple, right? I dont have to ask for a Verizon device-only iPhone 5S if I want nothing to do with Verizon or use their CDMA service? I'm guessing a device-only iPhone 5s (regardless of carrier label) is the same as unlocked sim-free iphone 5S?

  • How can i unlock my iphone by myself ?, how can i unlock my iphone by myself ?

Hi I have a question, Actually, I had my cellphone with locked iphone 4 from At&t previous, and the contract is already done for two years, what I want to do is unlock my cellphone, how can I do it by myself?

Only AT&T can authorize you phone to be unlocked.  You can contact them to see if you qualify.  Eligibility requirements are shown here: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB414532&cv=820&_requestid=708298#fb id=h0oX5NEasZY.

  • Factory-unlocked iPhone 4 will not activate

    Hello,
I bought iPhone 4 (Factory-unlocked) from Australia and brought back to Japan.
I tried to activate the phone first time and it asks me to insert SIM.
So I inserted the trimmed SIM (Japanese). But the iTunes says "The SIM card inserted is not supported."
However, the trimmed SIM with proper adopter works fine with Japanese phone.
I tried this with many other SIM in Japan but failed to activate iPhone 4.
I also called up Apple in Australia and gave them the IMEI number to confirm the phone.
They confirmed that the phone is proper and factory-unlocked one from Apple.
I also bought the so-called "Activation SIM" and tried activation with this SIM.
This time, it let me sync with my iTunes successfully but cannot get any cellphone signal obviously.
Now, I can see menu and contents on the phone but it keeps shows "Waiting for activation".
So I changed the SIM to Japanese SIM but again, it does not activate nor sync to iTunes.
    Could someone help?
    Do I need Australian SIM?
Can I activate with Australian SIM (that supports roaming in Japan) in Japan ?

Hi I am too living in Japan and bought an iPhone 4 back from Australia in September. I had activated it using a Jailbreak app, activation successful.
Now the problem, you are NOT able to use an iPhone in Japan that is not officially documented from Softbank. This means that Softbank has every IMEI number of each iPhone to be used in their system. When roaming, in Japan let’s say with an AT&T iPhone from the USA, this will work, because the system recognizes that it is a foreign number in the system and then applies the roaming charges to your Home Counties account. I had to go and pay an RF test registration fee to have my iPhone IMEI number placed on a list that Softbank accesses when registering, without the registration fee from the RF test certification company, the number is NOT added to the list… Softbank will then tell you it is NOT allowed to be used in Japan. This cost me more then paying 6 months of subscription and services if I had just opened a new account and contract with Softbank for a new Japanese iPhone 4.

  • Unlocked iPhone - iTunes Sync?

    Hi all,
I am about to buy an unlocked iPhone in Hong Kong. The only problem is, when I return to the UK and put in my old PAYG (vodafone and O2) sim, would iTunes be able to recognise and configure it properly? Would changing the sim cards affect my other settings?
    Thanks!

I'm using an Italian (carrier/sim-lock free) iPhone 3G with a German (O2) sim card: No probs while activating/using through iTunes ... just works perfectly.
There is no carrier detection in iTunes; depending on the kind of sim card your own cellphone number won't be recognized either.
