Unlock iPhoto Assistance Needed:, Unlock iPhoto Assistance Needed:

OS X Version 10.8.  I just updated the iPhoto on August 14, 2012, and I store my iPhoto on an external 3 TB Drive.  I also purchased and downloaded iPhoto Manager on August 14, 2012 which did allow me to export two additional iPhoto Libraries into the newly update one.  After all the updates were complete and images showing correctly, I felt safe enough to download the camera's memory card holding 500 additional photos and once they were downloaded I deleted them from the card.  I went to shut down the iPhoto Library a couple different ways and it started to automatically "Update Library".  After 15 minutes I realized it had stalled out at 65% completion.  I then went to the Utility Manger and Forced Quit the iPhoto.  When attempting to reopen I received the following message "the iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it".  I'm obviously concerned my latest dowload of 500 photos are not stored/saved correctly, and I deleted them from the card but even more concerned I may not be able to access any of my prior photos if I cannot unlock this program.  How did it get locked?  Should I be afraid to unplug my external or turn my computer off before this problem is resolved?  Any and all help will be much appreciated, especially if it's given in the most elementary terms possible.  Although I've had my mac for almost two years now, I generally find myself using the Windows system which I had to install to run my business.  Therefore I do not know more than 5% of the tricks, shortcuts, and most definitely lingo of Mac to efficiently navigate to a better place.
Sincerely,

LN,
Thank you very much for your quick response!  I understand your first two paragraphs, however I have questions on the third and pretty much over my head on the fourth unfortunately.
Paragraph 3 regarding the download of Fresh Crop, is it certain my 500 recently downloaded new photos are not saved into iPhoto because the update didn't complete?  Should I wait until I get iPhoto back opened up to confirm they are not there, or are they pretty much gone so move forward with this purchase?
Paragraph 4
I do not know what you mean by "rebuild the library".  I had assistance last night exporting two additional libraries into the updated Library with iPhoto Manager and that took an overnight process of updating.  Are you saying I need to repeat this process?
Sincerely,
06Deuce

  • HT5037 I am trying to open my iPhoto, but it tells me I need to upgrade.  Help?

I can't opne my iPhotos.  It tells me I need to upload using the Library Uploader.  I download as instructed, but it doesn't seem to download.  I can't open my iPhotos.  Help!

Okay- so here's the long story!
    Perhaps this will help.
My computer crashed a few months ago.
    We got a new hard-drive.
I tried to open my iPhoto for the first time and go some message about it being "locked".  I no longer get that message so I don't remember entirely what it said, but I followed to directions to "unlock" it.
Now, when I click 'iPhoto" on my dock, I get this message:
To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared.
To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple.
then there is a "learn more" button.
When you select that, it takes me here and this is where my discussion started.   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5037
I followed the steps to upgrade from previous versions- see my comment above, but I get stuck from 8.1.2 version to what appears to be the next one up from there.
Does this help?  I hate computers and simply want get my photos back from Carbonite before the crash happened.  I'm freaking out because I have 4 years of photos from the birth of my son.  If I can't get iPhoto working, I have no idea how to get my photos restored.
    <sigh>

  • I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon!

I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon for a wedding reception!

What version of iPhoto are you using?  How do you plan to view the slideshow at the wedding reception, on a TV screen?  If so then you will need to send the slideshow to iDVD and burn a disk from there.
If you're in iPhoto 11 and the slideshow was created in the slideshow mode and not from an album, then go to the Share menu and select iDVD.  That will create a QT movie of the slideshow and import it into iDVD.
In iDVD select your theme and setup the menu as you'd like.  If you want the movie to begin plahying immediately when the disk is inserted into the DVD player go into the Gallery mode and drag the movie into the Autostart  bin at the left.
If you want the movie to loop continuously go to the Advanced menu and select Loop.
When you're finished setting upb the iDVD project save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will allow you to check it with DVD Player before tryingto burn to disk.  Mount the disk imnage by double clicking on it and launch DVD Player and play.  If the movie plays as you want and everything is good you can  burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • IPhoto '08 Experts apply within (HELP NEEDED!)

OK, after installing Leopard which I had difficulty with BSOD and other issues, my iPhoto is corrupt. When I try to create a new book I can not select the book type, all options are greyed out. When trying to modify a page layout in an existing book all options are greyed out. When trying to change a theme in an existing book all options are greyed out. Spoke with Apple for over three hours last night, completely uninstalled iPhoto and reinstalled with no success. Did an Archive & Install of Leopard again to no success, have done several permission and disk fixes with no success. At this point I'm looking for any and all options so that I don't have to wipe the disk clean and begin again.
If I were to make an appointment with a Mac Genius (something I've never done) can I take my iMac in and have them trouble shoot the issue with me at the store?
Thanks in advance, I'll mail a six pack to anyone that can help.
    Jason

Before you reinstall iPhoto you'll need to delete the following folders/files:
    HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto/Themes
    iPhoto application
All files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • "To open this iPhoto library in Aperture, it first needs to be upgraded".  Aperture already up to date. still cant open aperture library. please advice

When I try to open my aperture library, this is the message pop out  " TO OPEN THIS iPHOTO LIBRARY IN APERTURE, IT FIRST NEEDS TO BE UPGRADED. "
My apperture application is already up to date. no more upgrade available. please advice what to do.

The update refers to the library not the application.
So is this an Aperture library you are trying to open in iPhoto or an iPhoto library you are trying to open in Aperture? You're post is confusing on this point.
In either case make sure the library is up-to-date in the originating application then the other should open it.
BTW what version of iPhoto abnd Aperture are you running?

  • IPhoto keeps saying The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto

Upgraded to new Lion iMac from Snow Leopard iMac, then upgraded to iCloud. I upgraded to the latest version of iPhoto. I get this message that says that "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. I have iPhoto '11 version 9.2.1(628)
I have attached the screenshot here. I have over 31,000 photos in this library. I click upgrade and it shows me a line for a while and then goes to the photos. Everything looks fine except photstream doesn't work and I always get this same message when I open iPhoto again.
Another detail is that I do have mobileme web albums still publishing from this iPhoto. Could this be causing a problem?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • If I buy an iPhone 4S (the unlocked and contract-free version), do I need to add a microSIM card if I just want to use it as an iPod Touch?

If I buy an iPhone 4S (the unlocked and contract-free version), do I need to add a microSIM card if I just want to use it as, essentially, an iPod Touch? I'll probably get a microSIM card eventually, but I just need the wi-fi based technology now. Anyone know?

It will not do anything (other than call 911) until you activate it with a microSIM. Look into an iPod Touch instead.

  • SPAM Update needed for Upgrade Assistent

For updating a SAP System (IDES 4.7) I assume I need the Upgrade Assistant!? I installed the UA-Server and connected with a browser to the local Service (http://x.x.x.x:4239/ua/UaGUI.html). After a few steps in the phase "PREPARE", the assistand is running into the following error: "The SPAM Version 15 of your system is too low!!!". I downloaded the newest SPAM-Package and unpacked it. The resulting files are "CSR0120031469_0026199.ATT" and "CSR0120031469_0026199.PAT". I copied them to \usr\sap\trans\EPS\in but the error still appears...
Any hint how to get 'em working? Am I totally wrong with this solution?

    Hi Thomas
I think for upgrading an IDES system you need to install it again. Anyway , this note 164244 says you can ask SAP for an upgrade if necessary.

  • After updating to Yosemite, I updated iPhoto. Alert said to convert my library to new iPhoto. Then alert said I needed to repair permissions. Then a freeze. Then iPhoto won't find and show my library. How do I fix this?

After updating to Yosemite, I updated iPhoto. Alert said to convert my library to new iPhoto. Then alert said I needed to repair permissions. Then a freeze. Then iPhoto won't find and show my library. How do I fix this? I can see the library icon on my external drive, but it doesn't show as a library in iPhoto. When I double click on the icon, nothing happens. When I choose it from alternate menu, doesn't open. Where do I get help?

    Peter
Do you have a back up? What version of iPhoto do you have? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Help needed for iPhoto 8

I have inadvertently moved all my photo events (and their various labels) into one folder. This move erased all the event names so I have one massive unnamed folder/event. How can I undo this without having to go through all 10000 pictures and reorganize them? (I closed iPhoto before realizing what I had done, so I can't just "undo"). I did back up to Time Capsule this am and started to import them from there but I don't know that TC keeps them in event order and it seemed painfully slow. Ideas? thanks
    Dave Stroh

    Dave:
Do you have a recent backup of the entire library or of the library's database file, Library6.iPhoto, or the AlbumData.xml file? Having either is the only way I know of to get your events back without having to do it manually.
Otherwise, since Events are time based, you could create Smart albums based on years. Select all of the photos is one year smart album and create an event. Then do the same for each month in a year and make events for them. That way you'd at least have events based on months. That's the best I can think of.
See the tip at the end of my signature for a way to quickly and easily recover from a similar problem or other library damage issues in the future.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
