I work for a group and we are in the process of having to update our operating procedures with large disclaimers but all the PDFs are password locked. The group has a high turnover rate and no one who is with the group currently seems to know what the password is or who set it up. Is there any way to retrieve this password or to get an over ride and unlock the PDFs?

There are ways yes. Adobe security is mostly honored by Adobe products.
I will not recommend and app to do this on the Adobe forums (plus some could contain malware so I don't want to refer you to them) but I'm sure Google could help you out.

Why does Adobe reader on iPad lock unlocked pdf files on move from computer

I Have copied several pdf files, which I have made, from my laptop to my iPad. On my laptop they are unlocked and I can Add text etc. On the iPad they become locked and I cannot do this. Why? How do I stop this so that's can have u locked pdf files on my iPad.

Did you add document restrictions or an "Open Password" protection to your PDF documents? When you add any of document security features to a PDF document, it will be encrypted.
Currently, Adobe Reader mobile products do not support adding annotations to encrypted PDF documents or filling out encrypted PDF forms, for example.
To check whether your PDF document is encrypted
Open your PDF document in the desktop version of Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro.
Select File > Properties... from the menu. (Or press Command+D for Mac, Control+D for Windows.)
Select the Security Tab.
Click the Show Details... button (if enabled).
Check the last entry in the Document Security dialog.
If this is not the case, please send one of your PDF documents to [email protected] and include the link to this forum post (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1593031) in your email message for reference.
We will inspect the PDF document and diagnose the cause of the problem. Thank you.

Does Apple support products, like Flash, that will unlock .PDF files?

I am a student at University of Phoenix, and the whole purpose of my purchase is to be able to get access to my books. However, I am not able to unlock the PDF file to access the book...HELP Apple!

I don't think flash has anything to do with it unless the website you're accessing those files from is using flash, which isn't the best thing anymore since Flash's days in general are numbered.
I'd talk to the bookstore or vendor for your books and find out their fixes for accessing the textbooks on your iPad. The solution from your problem will likely not come from Apple but from U of Phoenix or the book vendor.

Unlocking pdf

I saved a pdf with a password to prevent copying and printing. When I open the pdf with Adobe Reader, I can't find ANYWHERE to enter the password so that I can print the file.
Where on earth does the password go?

Unfortunately, I have to use a software called "PDFCreator" and as far as I can tell, it does not support this procedure.
What I am looking for is a way to send this document out such that it can be edited and printed by authorized people (those with the password) and unauthorized people can read the document but not print or edit it.
I am certain there is a way to do this, I simply have to know where in the silly password goes in Adobe Reader.

I'm trying to unlock/remove password on a password protected and reader extended document in a long lived process. Below is the workflow description
A batch process that fires periodically to send service feedback forms to customers.
Long lived process to Gather data ---> Render Dynamic pdf ---> Password Protect (to disable printing and extracting pages) ---> Reader Extend (for saving edited pdf on client machine) ---> Send Email to customer.
Long lived process to Receive feedback via Email endpoint --> Remove/Unlock (?) password ---> Extract data from PDF ---> further operations to update data in tables.
My findings:
Remove PDF Password Encryption (Failed here) ---> Extract data

I see that the "Unlock Passwod Encrypted PDF" service works fine in Short Lived Process. I'm unable to make it work in Long Lived process. Can someone please explain this behavior? Why is the limitation to Unlock PDF Password service to work only in short lived process?

Is your intention to remove the password encryption or just extract data from it?
If you want to remove password encryption then you should first remove the usage rights and then remove pass encryption
If you want to just extract data from it - You can create a short lived subprocess that has unlock PDF password and extract data which should work fine (Ensure that unlock and extract are in a short lived process)
In case of long lived process when you unlock PDF password - the PDf gets unlocked and will be saved - and if you try to extract data it would fail because you need to unlock it again.

Hi -
*If it is an unlocked PDF*, open it in the app "Preview", use the selection tool to select the area you want to show in FCE, type Command + C to copy it, and go to the menu File > New from clipboard and your selection will open in a new document.
Go to the menu File > Save As, choose Format PNG and a Resolution of 72 pix or lower and name and save it.
Then Open FCE and either drag the file to your browser or go to the menu File > Import > Files and navigate to the image you just made and click OK.

You should not even need a program to read an unlocked PDF. When the PDF is selected on the desktop, you should be able to press the spacebar (or File/QuickLook) and the PDF should be displayed in a pop-up window. This is because PDF reading is built into the system itself.
Can you read PDFs that are from sources other than your school? You should be able to read them with QuickLook, Preview, or Adobe Reader. If none of these work with no PDFs from any source, something is wrong with your system. Reading PDFs should be one of the easiest things to do on a Mac.

I just finish reading about the CTIA and FCC agreement regarding the unlocking process. The unlock of ANY device is accomplished BETWEEN the wireless server and apple. PLEASE understand that without the wireless carrier agreeing that it is in their best interest to unlock your device they will NOT unlock the device. If the device has met all critirum AND you are the registered owner of the device there should be NO REASON why the wireless carrier will not unlock the device. But please appreciate the fact that in this security laden world we live in each and EVERY business errs on the side of the customer whenever there is an issue of protecting said customer.

When I called verizon today, I was told they will unlock international portion, but not domestic. However, when I spoke to sales people in best buy and radio shack and other carriers, they insist verizon can unlock domestic as well. So what are the steps to do that?
