Unlock phone by EMEI mobile bought overseas

I bought my iPhone 4 in Spain but I moved to here a few months ago.
I cant use it with an American carrier since I updated to the to IOS 5. I cant activate it so it is totally useless. My carrier in Spain told me I was eligeble to unlock by emei so I provide it to them and they contacted to Apple in Spain and it seems is unlocked . However when I try to use , the iPhone does not recoginze my TMobile card even I can't pass the activation screen.
I try to sinc with iTunes and keeps showing that I need the card to activate it.
Anyone can help me with this?

I contacted the Spanish carrier and they agreed to do so. The procedure is that they contact Apple Spain with my iPhone EMEI ( provided by me ) and they unlock it. I did it and they told me I should be able to use my iPhone yet however I still keep having the same problem.
I do not know how the unlock by EMEI works maybe I have missed any steps but what they explained me is that everything was done.
Is anyone unlock their phone by EMEI so can explian to me if I have to do something else?

You have to contact the cellular service provider that you purchased the phone through, only they can unlock the phone, some Service providers will NOT unlock phones, others will charge you a fee, that is the only way to unlock your device

iPhones purchased in the UAE do not have FaceTime installed and FaceTime will not appear regardless of where the phone is taken.
Jailbreaking will void your warranty with Apple, may permanently render your phone unusuable, and will eliminate the possibility of getting help from Apple or its forums including this one.
If you want FaceTime on an iPhone, sell that phone and purchase one from one of the authorized iPhone dealers in India.

I bought the company unlocked phone from apple store Canada. It was originally loaded with software 4.2 and was working fine here in SaudiArabia. Yesterday I updated with IOS 5.0.1. Now it is showing that sim is not valid. The same sim works fine in other phones.

Here's and update on my problems and here are are some screen shots of the types of problems I've been having since the v5.0.1 update. Keep in mind these are native apps and I have tried the rebuild phone crap many times, nothing helps.
This is screen shot of a what happened when I tried to use my camera one day, both the front and back cameras were all black. I had to power cycle the phone to get rid of this problem. The cameras appeared to be working correctly, I could focus and zoom but it was all black.
Here is an image of what happened when I searched for something in a map. This is after I picked the choice I wanted, the keyboard disappeared but the list didn't. I had to force close the app and restart it for this problem to go away. Who knew five bars on ATT was possible.
And finally this is the messaging app, although you would not know it. I had to return to home screen (after a long pause for it to process the button push) and return to the messaging app. This happens all the time with the messaging app and the notifications sounds drive me crazy. If i'm using the phone, say browsing the web and I get an incoming message its almost 100% of the time the messaging app will screw up. The sound will play at the wrong time or not at all, message will show up in notifications and diasapear in message app or Ill have a problem like this:

You contact the carrier it is locked to.
Unfortunately, if it's actually a GCI phone, they do not offer unlocking.

First you'd have to establish service with Verizon. Once a paying customer in good standing, you can then request the GSM portion be unlocked. Obviously, you can't do any of that stuff while you're out of the US. They will not unlock the CDMA side.

AT&T has not as of yet announced any plans to unlock an iPhone that was purchased as locked to them. Whether or not they will do so in the future, only AT&T would know, and they probably will not say unless and until they're ready to make an official announcement. There is nothing Apple can do for you in this matter unless you are still within the timeframe for returning the iPhone.

If you mean that the iPhone has Activation Lock - that is, it's asking for the previous owner's Apple ID and password to activate the device - then you will need that information, or you'll need to get the previous owner to remove the device from his/her iCloud account:

If you can't reach the previous owner or he/she is unwilling to cooperate, then the device is unusable by you. Return the iPhone for a refund if you can.

The device is locked to Verizon wireless not a Russian cell provider.
You can use Verizon here in the states. Get a Verizon Sim.
In out of the country use, pop in that Sim and it should work. However Verizon does not unlock for use in the USA.
And you must be a Verizon customer to get it unlocked to use in other countries. Apple claims it will work in other countries.

Unlocked iPhone from T-Mobile does not work in Switzerland

I'm extremely annoyed. I bought myself a *so called unlocked* iPhone in Germany for 999 Euro and now it does not work with a Swiss SIM card. When I try to make calls via dialing or when i try to read text messages (sms) the phone and the sms application will crash. Calling the different helplines ends up in the same resutls: Apple care blames either Swisscom or T-Mobile, T-Mobile blames either Swisscom or Apple and Swisscom blames Apple or T-Mobile...
In the end however, I can't get rid of the feeling that the problem could be solved by a very simple software update, because I've seen hacker reports on the internet claiming they were able to solve the problem by changing a few settings. I don't want to be forced to hack my legally bought so called unlocked iPhone. *When will Apple set the "unlocked" iPhone really free?*

you are not the only one. It seems as if the T-Mobile unlocked phones work with any German SIM card, but with non from not-Apple supported countries (like CH).
Apple support is aware of the problem, as many of us have called them and submitted bug reports, but it remains to be seen, if Apple is interested enough in "us" to provide a solution.

Not true with the nexus line of phones.... ATT is blocking the OTA to non ATT nexus 6 devices. Once the update clears ATT testing even those who bought a nexus 6 from moto or google get the update. Nexus phones have always got OTA updates this is just the first time ATT sold a nexus. THERE IS NO PROPER NETWORK FOR A NEXUS DEVICE. THE SKU IS THE SAME EVERY PLACE THE PHONE IS SOLD IN THE US. It will work outside the US. You cannot use the SIM from your Virgin Mobile phone. Once outside of the US you will need to find a cellular provider that supports the iPhone.
The Apple unlocked phone is initially with T-Mobile. Their service is available in many other countries outside of the US, so you may want to ask about that before spending money on another phone.

These and other forums are full of people with iPhone unlocking problems - the net result is that, as others have said, is:
If you bought them from Apple they will be (and stay) unlocked.
If you bought them PAYG from CPW then they will lock to the first SIM activated.
Any other contract or PAYG phone iPhone bought from the networks WILL be locked by them too.
However, all is not lost. The original purchaser can request for the phones to be unlocked by Apple, via the carrier. The carriers usually charge around £20 to do this, or gratis if you're out of contract.
You are the original purchaser, right? If not, you need to get in touch with that person and pray they'll help you out.
