Unlock phone to answer call or text

I don't have to unlock my phone to answer calls or texts. I would really like to have to do that, someone answered my phone the other day, I was not happy, no harm was done but I'd like to prevent it in the future. How can this be done?

I thought I made that pretty clear in both my response.
For text message you would have to unlock your phone to read your text if it is locked - which is what you wanted.
For the phone calls you don't the only option is to swipe to answer.- So no it can't be done. You can test for yourself, lock your phone and use another phone to call yourself - you see that there is no option to unlock your phone.

I'm hopeing somebody will be able to help me with an issue I'm having with my phone.
I successfully activated my phone on Friday ( 3 days ago ).. the cell service worked great on Saturday.. I was able to make calls and texts.. However since Sunday, the network no longer seems to function.
1. Whenever I send a text message it doesn't go through
2. When I try to make a phone call it automatically connects me to a Verizon operator saying to use a calling card or something.
Friends and Family report that when they try to call me they get a disconnected message / text messages do not go through.
I just became a Verizon user on Friday after switching from AT&t (7 years with them)

I had the same problem on Saturday, and I stopped into a Verizon kiosk at the mall. The guy at the counter simply checked to see that I was properly set to the correct device on his computer and after he did so, he dialed *228 on my phone and followed the instructions. I haven't had any issues since. My only difference, is that I switched from the iPhone 4 to the 4S, but have alwasy been a Verizon customer. But as far as the problem goes, It sounds identical to mine in every other sense. I'd stop into a see verizon person if you can.

I miss most calls and texts help with settings. some calls ring and some dont and we have weak signal in our area. and have wifi at home. and some calls dont ring and most text dont signify when they come through. help i am lost.

Check to see if the mute switch is not set to mute.
After that, check to see if Do Not Disturb is on. Lastly, if you have weak signal at your home, this could be what is causing you to miss calls.

Had to wipe phone again and then it worked. Had to wipe the phone twice and had network support to help. In the wipe I lost the function to add mms info though..... could not add in user name etc....
I am now having trouble as I did back up and restore media and application data. Picture texting still works.... but I have no calendar nor contacts Any way to find where it went and restore? I don't even know what I am supposed to be doing next work week!!!

I have a tmobile unlocked phone and i got a text from 447786205094.

I read that it is to activate iMessage or FaceTime. Does that mean every time i restart the phone it will charge me for an international text or is this a one time charge? Is this going to charge me everytime i restart my phone or no? I have also turned off FaceTime but am still using iMessage. Should i turn that one off as well?

No-one here can comment on whether T-Mobile will continue to bill you for these or not. That's up to them since they are not a supported carrier in the U.S.
T-Mobile has made lots of noise lately about wanting to provide assistance to iPhone users on their network. You may want to call them back and escalate it up the food chain.

Sometime when you enter the phone application, one can occasionally scroll the call list but then all freezes. No buttons at the bottom seem to work at all.
A reset/new setup of the phone as suggested by Ingo2711 seems ridicules. Any other solution from Apple Support?

My husband accidentally erased his iphone on the "find my iphone" app and now he cannot get his phone to recieve calls or texts. He cannot get into the home page. It seems to be locked somehow....HELP

There aren't any supported carriers in Pakistan. Apple hasn't released the iPhone there. The OP is using a grey-market iPhone and hence is pretty much on his/her own as regards getting this phone working with the carrier, unless that carrier can help.

Try backing it up to your computer with iTunes. Connect it to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of the phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now. Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer you apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library.

I have reset the network settings and the phone itself. I have called the *228 and it said it reprogramed my phone. walked away from my phone and it found service again for like 2 minutes and then went back to searching. This is pathetic, I basically have a touch now. I have hear several people have had this problem and it seems even after the phone is replaced they still have the problem. I can't belive you can spend this much on a phone to have it not work. Any resolve to this problem coming?

I have first a question. When it states to activate a phone press 1, did you do it? If not try it.
The second thing I would recommend is to simply change the phone number either online through my Verizon web portal or call customer service and have them change your number.
Then wait about 20 minutes and see if the problem has gone away.
Since the micro Sim is only good for overseas unlocked use; I believe a *228 send and select option 1 will set up your device on the Verizon network. You may just try doing that without changing your phone . Hey give it a try what can it hurt?

I SUGGEST YOU THINK ABOUT THE ANSWER YOU GIVE LONG AND HARD FOR IT WILL DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT I STAY OR LEAVE. WILL IT COST ANYTHING IT SHOULDN'T BUT IF DOES I'LL SWITCH. Well, based on the "tone" I read from your initial message, I would sugges that you start looking at other carriers now. AT&T does not anounce dates that things will be released until they are sure that the dates will be met. So far, AT&T has indicated that they will try to get something released in 2015, but the year is only half over, so it could still take most of that last 6 months before it is available, we don't know, and AT&T won't say until they know they are ready to release it. Take a look at Microsoft. Several months ago, they annouced that Windows 10 would be released on July 29th. Now they are not saying that, and implying that the release date may slip. AT&T is not the only company which will not pre-announce things until they are sure they will be ready to meet that date. Yes, it sucks that we don't know when that feature will be available to us, but that's just the way it is.
As for the "lecturing" you thought you received, almost any place on the internet will give you the same "lecture" (many of them much less politely than ). Typing in all caps is consider "shouting" in internet terms (and has been for more than 25 years), and it is harder to read than typing in mixed case. IOS 7 downloaded fine but I can't back up restored. Tried 3 times. Tried turning off iCloud. Now I can only receive texts and phone messages. I cannot make calls, retrieve phone messages or send any texts. When I try I just get a blank screen. HELP

I initially tried to do this at 11:39pm last night. I cleaned up my apps, backed up to my computer and then took the plunge. It downloaded fine, everything went ok until I tried to restore backup. I received a message that there was an error in iTunes and iPhone could not be restored. I tried this three times giving up at 2:00 am. I tried again at 7:30am. No fix. Now I can open up phone and browse in safari. I can get notifications that a text was received or a phone message left but I can't receive or make phone calls, retrieve phone messages, or access any text features. Also I have NO purchased apps. I use my phone got work and this has ruined my day - please help!!

I would start with going to O2 with the phone and making sure it's set up properly - maybe the SIM they gave you isn't quite right or their network isn't acknowleding it like it should.
Seeing as you've tried restoring to factory settings and resetting network settings, I'm assuming you've tried restoring the phone as new, just to see if that helped at all. If that didn't help, you definitely need to get in touch with O2 and work things out with them.
