Unlocked bios + increased fan speed on GX740?
Hey there, I were wondering if the BIOS and EC version is up to date on my GX740 MS-1727

How can I increase the internal fans in my computer? With this program you can increase the default fan speeds. You can also create multiple presets for instance one for a slightly increased fan speeds which you may keep it at during normal use. Then have a another higher setting that you set it to when you are going to play games. This will require you to manually change the setting each time. It's easy enough to do though.
If you are not already I would recommend installing iStat Pro or Temperature Monitor so that you can monitor your iMacs internal temperatures. This will help you to determine the best settings for your fans.

Any possibility of increasing fan speed on dv5 1045tx
I want to increase the fan speed because my dv5 1045tx gets too hot. On idle my cpu ranges from 45Cto 55C and my gpu stays at about 60C. When I play any game(like cod4 on highest and lowest graphics settings) my laptop's gpu goes up to 91C to 98C and cpu going to about 80C to 90C. Old games like prince of persia warrior within bring my cpu up to 95C to 98C. Without being able to increase fan speeds, I lost my freedom of playing games. Can someone please help?
Used speedfan to check tempsMany times a laptop overheating is directly related to the cooling of the processor. The main culprit is the fan. The fan sucks in air from the bottom and blows it out the side. It will also suck in hair, dust, and other debris. That stuff often gets trapped by the heat sink and over time builds up in a layer which chokes off the cool air going to the processor making the fan work harder.

What I recommend is getting some canned air and blowing out the vents in the side and bottom of the laptop. If after doing this you still have problems with over-heating, and your laptop is in warranty, you can take your laptop to a HP Authorized Service Center and ask them to clean the fan and heatsink. If it is out of warranty, consider searching for the maintenance manual for your specific model, in the manual there are schematics for taking apart the laptop. Cleaning the fan is much easier that removing a motherboard, so don't feel to intimidated by the idea. Also you can remove the heatsink and then remove the thermal grease and apply a new layer which also helps alleviate heat related issues.

How to increase fan speed on HP pavilion dv7
i have a major problem with my fans on my pc. It often reaches 80-90 degrees celcuis, when i have been playing a fairly simple game for about 20 minutes. does anyone know what to do? and it dosent seem like i can increase my fan speed in any way. i have been trying almost everything i can find on the internet. please help
Hello themanafreak. I understand your notebook is getting warm during use.
First, you should ensure that the cooling system of the notebook is free of dust and debris but cleaning the notebook as per these instructions.
Also, another good step to take is to ensure that you have the latest version of the BIOS installed. I can locate the latest BIOS for you if you provide me with your product number. This document can show you where the product number is located. Finally, I do not know of a way to increase the fan's speed itself but you can set the fan to "always be on" by doing the following.
Reboot your computer and press F10 until the BIOS loads.Navigate to the System Configuration section.Ensure that "Fan Always On" is set to enabled.Navigate to the Exit section and save your changes.

Unable to monitor/adjust fan speed? (GX740)
So i've got some gpu heat issues that I was attempting to rectify by jacking up the fans earlier when i discovered the fans operate outside of my monitoring or control... I'm using GPU Monitor 3.5 which picks up the load, temp and any other myriad of information from the gpu but the fan speed is pegged at 100%... even though i can hear it freely adjusting itself. I've tried acouple different programs but the end result is always the same. Any particular reason the fan would be showing no info?

Increase fan speed on Intel Core Duo Mac mini?
I have owned a PowerPC G4 based Mac mini for some time now. It's been (and continues to be) a great little computer.
Just recently I bought the Intel Core Duo version. It too seems like a great little computer.
However, I've got to admit that the amount of heat the Intel version puts out is staggering. The internal hard disk claims to be running around 119-126 degrees Fahrenheit. I put a thermometer near the vent on the back and it topped out at 120 degrees F. The bottom pad is nearly too hot to touch. This computer is running a distributed computing project.
Far be it from me to second guess Apple's engineers, but the fan is never turning very fast at all on the Intel mini. It is running, though, and appears to be doing as it was designed to do. (I've seen my PowerPC machine get to rip-roaring during the summer.)
Running the Apple Hardware Test shows that the Intel mini's fan can speed up quite a bit. I'd like to know if there's a way to request a higher fan speed outside of the Hardware Test. I know I could pop the thing open and just "forget" to reconnect the fan speed sensor wire to command the fan to run at full speed, but I don't want to invalidate the warranty.
Maybe I'm being silly, but I prefer that my computers be moving enough air from them to keep things cool regardless of noise level.The smcFanControl utility is what ended up solving this problem. Turning up the fan speeds just a little bit resulted in a very noticeable cool-down.

Increasing fan speed and temperature
my temperatures and fan speeds are slowly getting higher and louder on my imac g5 2nd gen (17", w/isight, 1.9ghz). i've never noticed my fans before. the only time i ever used to notice my imac made any noise at all was in the dead of night when i shut it down and noticed the absence of noise. but a couple of months ago i started being able to hear the fans when i play world of warcraft. since then, they have slowly gotten louder and louder, and they allow my cpu temp to get higher and higher before it stops rising.
before i could hear the fans i never noticed the temp, but after i started hearing them, my cpu temp usually maxed out at around 148º. now it is allowed to get to 167º and stay there while i play wow. and the fans are so loud i have to use headphones to be able to hear the game. simply surfing the internet now causes higher temperatures and fan speeds than playing WoW did a month ago.
should i take it to a service technician to see if anything is wrong with it?Have you ever cleaned you machine? Since it's an iSight (which is actually 3rd generation, Ambient Light is the 2nd, Rev A the 1st), you can't open it but you can vacuum the air vents, which might help.

How to increase Fan speed | HP Travelmate 8510p

I post here because I have an issue that last from more than year with the temperature of my CPU. It's always near 50/60 when I'm lucky, and it can go to 90 degree and make the laptop crash when I'm running costly applications (like compiling stuff or playing games).
I would like to force the fan to run faster, like it was when I was running windows on the same laptop, so that the CPU (and also at the same time the keyboard which is burning my fingers) stay cooler.
Here is a sensors I just made :

Increased fan speed after Leopard install
Hey - Just installed leopard today on my intel core 2 duo blackbook, and I have noticed that where under no processor load my fans would run at about 1800 RPM. Now, it has been consistently at about 2600. I have reset the SMC (I think that's what it's called, the PMU on PowerPC systems) and updated to 10.5.1. Has anyone else experienced this??

I have an HP ENVY 14 1111nr pc. It has an i5, 6Gb or RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card. I just want to know how you unlock the fan speed on this laptop. I know there is a way because I have friends at school that tell me its possible, but I just dont know how. Lately my pc has been running warm, and I want to be able to control the fan speed.

Hi, everyone,
I finally have this new core i7 system, to replace my old AMD athlonx2. I have one question about the CPU fan speed control.
I remember that in my old system, the cpu fan speed control works out of box, no configuration is needed.
But when I install arch 64 on this new i7 system, the cpu fan is running at its maximum speed constantly while the CPU temperature is modestly low. I know there is a wiki teaching how to do it.
However, I am just curious why it doens't work out of box any more? Does CPU fan control work for you guys out of box normally? especially the new Core i7 cpu users?

Okay. How fan control works on Linux: First, navigate to /sys/class/hwmon
Each of these folders, i.e. hwmon0, stands for a sensors monitor / fan controller on your mainboard that may control one or several fans. Inside hwmonN, there should be a subfolder called device, which contains several interfaces if your BIOS allows software-side fan control. You can read them with cat and write to them with echo.
Examples:
pwm1_enable shows if OS-level fan control is enabled (1) or disabled and in BIOS control (0). Changing fan speed won't work if this is disabled. (i.e. cat /sys/class/hwmon0/device/pwm1_enable reports 0 -> disabled; you could enable it with echo 1 > /sys/class/hwmon0/device/pwm1_enable).
pwm1 allows to change fan speed. The values range from 0 (fan off) to 255 (full speed, 12V).
fan1_input shows the current RPM if a fan is connected. You can only read from this interface. Its useful to check all of these in the each of the hwmon folders to find out if there is actually a fan connected to the fan controller (they often have more ports than mainboard manufacturers use).
There might be a fan1_div, this is somehow related to how the kernel reads the RPM, I don't know how it works.
temp1_input interfaces can appeare too, if some of the chips have temperature sensors located somewhere. I *think* lm_sensors places the core temperatures it reads from CPU (the coretemp-isa-000X thingies) in one of the hwmon-folders too.
There might be interfaces for different fans in the same hwmon folder, i.e. pwm2_enable, pwm2, fan2_input, etc., all interfaces with the same index belong to the same physical fan connector, and all in the same hwmonN are managed by the same IC on your mainboard.
Warning: These interfaces, if they work, control the fans directly without any kind of security measure. If you shut some essential fan down, it will stay off until you reboot your CPU shuts down.
(If you see something likein0_alarm, in0_input, in0_max, etc. it's a voltage monitoring chip.)
If one of those interfaces can do something, OS-level fan control does work, if none of those folders contain a working pwm interface, fan control seems to be unavailable.
Sometimes there is an option in the BIOS to enable it, and for some BIOSs software-side fan control only works if dynamic fan control is disabled in the BIOS and fan speed is set to a static value - or vice versa.
I don't know what you are using to control fan speed, there are many applications that use these interfaces, i.e. GNOME or KDE power managers, so I'm not sure what is happening:
IF: Windows 7 enables OS-level fan control and sets it the RPM to those you observed and you have nothing that provides fan control in Arch and so fan control stays at BIOS-level, which might also read out a different sensor / the same sensor differently or it might be more conservative in setting fan speeds altogether;
OR: You have something that provides fan control installed in Arch and it reads out a the wrong value supplied by lm_sensors and thus sets a higher fan speed.
Anyway, possible solutions I can think of:
Find out if you have some kind of fan control software and what it does. For example, I use the fancontrol daemon, I can't help you if you use something else.
The wiki mentions how to assign a fan speed to a certain temperature sensors. You might assign it to a different one. For example, there are no sensor chips on the mainboard of my EEE (no temp1 etc.) so I assigned the fan speed to the temperature reported by the BIOS via ACPI (those are in /sys/class/thermal, also no "device" subfolder on EEEs):
FCTEMPS=/sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/pwm1=/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
You could also change the MINTEMP/MAXTEMP values to one higher than those you actually want to compensate for the effect of lm_sensors reporting temperatures that are too high.
It is currently not possible for a mortal user to change the coretemps lm_sensors reads, see this post, last paragraph.
There is a configuration file, /etc/sensors3.conf, you can change sensor names and adjust offsets here, but only for the monitoring chips and their sensors that are on the mainboard.

Mac pro 3,1 default fan speed?
Hey guys, ive been messing around with SMC fan Controller over the years, and have increased minimum fan speeds due to hotter ambient room temps, or simply because i was running extended cpu intensive activities. Good to take precaution since the 3,1s are known for increasing fan speed after things have already gotten too hot. This can lead to overheating. At some point within the SMC fan Controller app, i changed the "default" fan choice higher instead of creating a new blank custom fan setting before choosing my fan speeds. My problem now is that i dont know what the default settings were. i think one was 500, 600, 600, 800 RPM maybe? No idea.
its is a 8 core 3.2 earl 2008 3,1 Mac Pro Desktop. This has different fans than all other mac pros so this question is 3,1 specific.

smcFanControl's preferences are located in /Users/<user>/Library/Preferences as com.eidac.smcFanControl2.plist. I believe that if you move that to the desktop and restart, a default plist will be rebuilt for your particular Mac. If that doesn't fix it, you can always put the plist back where it was.
Or, you can simply make smcFanControl not a startup item and then use something like iStatPro to see what the unadjusted fan speeds are because smcFanControl doesn't change the built-in speed defaults, it just overrides them as the lowest fan speeds. -

We have our new C220v2 M3 server in our LAB rack and we can hear the fans constantly going from about 10% to 40% RPM.
Any ideas what's happening?
There is no load on the box and it's constantly doing this.
JoshCan you clarify which fans are constantly running? Case/chassis fans or PSU fans? Reason I am asking is that I have a TAC case open right now for PSU fans running abnormally higher than they should even at low temperatures, while the case fans run quietly (as expected). So if you are seeing the same behaviour as me I would be very very interested to know.
You may also find that the case fans tend to rev up a lot once the Front Panel temperature sensor gets to 30 degrees Celsius. So even if the rest of the case is cool the case fans will start to really speed up once the ambient temperature at that location goes past that magic threshold. There are other factors and sensors as well that trigger increased fan speeds.
But anyway like Kenny has suggested we really need a show tech to know what temperatures your server is recording and what speeds the fans are running to know if it's normal or not.

I purchased a script for my website and it works well in IE but not in Firefox. As for the problem, in Firefox all displays properly but when the a track is selected it should autoplay in the player but it doesn't. IE has no problems. Below is the se
