Unlocked iPhone 5 in Kenya
Where or from which country should I buy an unlocked iPhone 5 that I would be able to use in Kenya and all other parts of the world? I am dying to get one, just don't know where to buy it from? (many threads here say most are unlocked for specific countries -dont work in others, still wonder why). I travel quite often and would like to use it with local providers in different countries.

There are 2 supported carriers in India. Aircel and Airtel.
The activation process is no different or more complicated than it is with any other iPhone.
Your cousin needs to be aware that if you do this, it can only be serviced in the US and it will not work with LTE networks outisde of North America.

Siri is prompting to unlock Iphone 6 when pressing home button for voice dial of existing contact
Just upgraded me to an IPhone 6. I restored my new phone from recent back up so all contacts, etc. are there. Also updated to latest OS.
If I depress the home button Siri is now prompting me to unlock my IPhone.
Scenario:
Depress Home button to activate Siri
Say "Call Home:"
Siri responds "You'll need unlock your IPhone first"
Unlock IPhone
Siri responds "Just to confirm - you'd like to call home".
I used to be able to just say "Call home" and it would just dial.....no unlock...no confirmation.
What's changed? Is there a setting I need to tweak?

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your new iPhone 6. If you are unable to voice dial from your lock screen, you may want to see if the setting to disable Siri when the phone is locked is enabled, as is noted here:
Prevent access to Siri when iPhone is locked. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode (iPhone models with Touch ID) or Settings > Passcode (other models). You can also disable Siri by turning on restrictions. See Restrictions.

Issue with Airplane Mode on legitimately unlocked iPhone
Hi,
I bought an iPhone in Australia from a distributor for one of the large carriers. I bought the white 16Gb outright and paid the fee to have the phone unlocked (as is permitted in Australia). It all worked well with both an Aus and a UK SIM card I had.
The white plastic back then cracked so I took it to an Apple store where they replaced it. I told the Genius that I'd had it unlocked and he said no problems, etc, etc.
He replaced the phone and I took it home, all seemed to work well. Again, with both SIMs.
I installed the 2.2 firmware upgrade.
Now to the troublesome bit.
Sitting in Melbourne airport, about to leave Australia for some significant time, I swapped the SIMs over and the phone started complaining about needing to be connected to iTunes.
I did this and it unlocked (again).
Question 1: Do I really have to connect to iTunes every time I change the SIM?
I replaced the SIM with my Aus one and turned the phone off to fly to Kuala Lumpur. On arrival in KL I swapped SIMs again, went through the hassle of connecting to iTunes to unlock.
Then, as I wanted to use the phone on my net flight to watch movies and play Fuzzle, I turned on Airplane Mode with the UK SIM.
The phone instantly complains about the SIM being changed and asks to be connected to iTunes. I did this (getting annoyed at this point)! This time, iTunes reports that the phone is fauly and I should take to an Apple Store
I then replaced the SIM with my Aus one, and it all started working nicely again including allowing me to use Airporne Mode.
Question 2: Why can't I use Airplane Mode when my UK SIM is installed?
This seems like a bug to me, rather than some complication with Airplane mode. Surely if my phone has been unlocked and I can make calls with both SIMs, then I can use Airplane Mode regardless of which SIM I'm using?
Added complication here is that I'm not going back to Australia for a while (maybe years), so unless Apple are nice to me and decide that the phone is faulty and will replace it in the UK, I'm going to be left with an expensive, and white, iPod Touch.

IanI don't think the problem lies specifically with the SIM card, but with the software on the phone.
I would appreciate others trying to replicate my problem with their iPhones. Simple steps (requireing an unlocked iPhone) are...
1. Insert original SIM card (all should be fine)
2. Remove orginal SIM card and replace with second carrier SIM
3. Sync with iTunes to get the phone working again.
4. Either turn on Airplane Mode or turn the phone off and on again.
5. The phone (at least mine) will require you to connect to iTunes again.
Turning on Airplane Mode or turning the phone off and on with the original SIM card inserted doesn't lead to this behaviour.

Hi, I'm looking to buy an unlocked iPhone 5s on Apple Store Canada - but my phone carrier, Wind Mobile, has a different frequency. I know this carrier isn't compatible with the iPhones 4s and earlier, but it was working on some versions of the 5. If I buy one here, will it work?
Ask the carrier if they support the iPhone and if it will work.

If the receipt says "unlocked" (and not "SIM free") then it will work anywhere in the world that there is a GSM network. However, if it ever needs repair you will have to take it back to France.

i am going to buy unlocked iphone 5.. i will be going to india nxt months and will stay there for a while... so my question is will i get warrenty in india.. and will there be any problem with using indian sims..?? thnx for the help..
The warranty for the iPhone is not and has never been International.
Warranty and support are ONLY valid in the country of origin. The only exception is the EU where the entire EU is treated as one country.
If the device will be used in India, buy it in India.
An unlocked iPhone will work on any supported GSM carrier world wide. The LTE portion of a US purchased, unlocked iPhone is unlikely to work outside North America as it does not support the appropriate bands used in other countries. -
The unlocked IPhone 4S models will not be available until November, Why is that? Why would Apple do that? I should be able to buy a factory unlocked Apple iPhone 4S when it comes out! I travel all over the world, and so that is why I need one like that. It is unfair to the consumer, and frankly turning away customers like myself willing to pay high dollar to Apple for their product, who can I speak with to complain about this, because I know their are factory unlocked iPhone 4S' sitting in a warehouse somewhere just waiting to be shipped, and I want one. I know why, cause Apple signed contracts with each carrier so the carrier could increase their sales making customers sign 2 year contracts, I get it, I own my own business, but the delay of releasing factory unlocked ones is just not right and I should be able to buy one without having to buy it over in the UK where it is unlocked when it comes out right away, I should be able to buy it in my own country! These business practices we practice in the US need to stop, their is a demand that needs to be met with consumers like myself who don't need subsidized iPhone's with 2 year contracts with carriers and don't mine paying full price for an unlocked one, it is unethical in a sense, forcing the customer to buy it with a carrier contract and NOT giving the customer the option to buy it full price and own it themselves, OR, making the consumer wait a month for that option to be available. THEY SHOULD BE RELEASED AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!! THAT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!!!!!

The number of unlocked vs packaged phones will be quite small and the number of unlocked buyers wishing to upgrade immediately will be smaller still. Can I activate an unlocked iPhone 6 without a sim card?
My iPhone 4s was stolen in Mexico and according to my find my iPhone app, its offline. I am assuming I will never see it again. I am currently in the USA but am originally from Australia. I will be in the States until mid February. I kind of need a phone and was thinking of just purchasing an unlocked iPhone 6 whilst in the States. A lot of retail stores don't seem to sell unlocked phones, but I see I can purchase one from the apple store. I was just wondering if I purchased an unlocked iPhone 6 from the apple store with no sim card, would I be able to activate it without a sim? I have my old phone backed up on my laptop so I am hoping just to restore it to my new phone. Then I plan to use the phone with no sim until I arrive back home in Australia where I can purchase a sim with my home carrier and transfer my number back. Am I able to do this? I only intend to use my phone when connected to Wi-Fi. Any help is great
I'm not sure if it comes with a carrier. It was given to me by my travel agent but didn't really intend to use it. It says JT - Jersey Telecom (not sure what that means?). I have to activate the sim on a website called www.rechargeminutes.com. But looking at the sim, I am unsure if it would fit in an iPhone 6 because I was reading that they are different sizes?

Can I use officially unlocked iPhone in different countries?
I'm moving to Rome with my job for eight months, then on to Chicago for four months, then back to London. I'm trying to find out if I buy an unlocked Pay as You Go iPhone in one of the various EU countries selling manufacturer unlocked units (France, Germany, Italy, etc) , will it work in each country if I switch to that country's telecom's Sim cards.
The blogs and iPhone dedicated websites are full of opinions but no one seems to have definitive experience doing this. Some users say it should work, others say the EU iPhones are unlocked for the specific country of purchase but will not work with another country's telecom's Sim cards. The Apple Stores will not confirm any usage outside their own country. Similar response from the relevant telecoms. The Apple Support pages do not make any reference to cross country usage beyond roaming.
A privately unlocked iPhone is an option but I prefer an official unlock so there are no hassles. Not looking for opinions here - can find more than enough on the internet. I'm looking for actual first hand experience using these officially unlocked iPhones between countries.Thanks for the correction on the relevant carriers. I had already update mi new factory unlocked iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1.1 and I still having problems with "invalid sim". I'm from Argentina and here we don't have official service. Was it purchased from an official Apple Store, not a reseller? Only Apple Stores sell official factory unlocked phones. The others sell hacked to unlock phones, and the unlocking is unstable.
Try these steps, as needed:
1. Reset phone - press both home and on/off buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
3. Replace SIM card (and reset network settings again)
4. Restore Phone in iTunes using a backup
5. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup -

Question is, if you were buying a second hand iPhone, is there a way to look and see whether it's unlocked or not? I see on my 3Gs there's a 'locked' icon in the middle at the top above the Date and Time - is that the indicator?
